[Q] Recovering original software after flashing - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
how can I recover original software (WM 6.1) using Sony Update Service after flashing and installing WM 6.5? Is there any way to 'unflash' it so Update Service will start detecting my device again? Now phone has no software and I need original polish WM 6.1 there.

Try reflashing using the Sony Ericsson Update Service. Try flashing back to Stock SPL (then to Hard SPL in you prefer) if it doesn't work.

As I said before unfortunatelly SE Update Service is not even detecting my X1 device so I'm gonna try flashing back to Stock SPL, can you link me to any step-by-step tutorial on this topic?

I flashed the Stock SPL image but SE Update Service is still not detecting my X1. Device appears in device manager normally, all drivers are installed correctly (I chcecked that on the other pc in case drivers on the first one were messed up) but Update Service still asks me to go to bootloader mode but when I do this it's not allowing me to go to the next step just like I haven't done it so I guess SE Update Service is unable to detect that my X1 is in bootloader mode.

Cant Update P4350 With Official Wm6

Ive downloaded official wm6 sve rom from HTC website. My herlald is stuck on bootloader ipl 1.08 spl 1.08. When i connect to computer usb is shown on the screen bottom ,but when i try to flash the rom ,error 300 invalid update tool is shown.
how can i fix this??
Official rom matching my p4350 is supposed to work, but it doesnt.
please help!!!
Hi there,
I recently had a similar problem as you, what I did was to:
- remove the battery for 5-10secs
- put the battery back
- press and hold the camera button (do not release it)
- press the power on button ( the one at the top of the phone, used for the soft resets)
- The phone will display three different colors and "IPL ...."
- Connect your phone via the USB cable to the computer, Windows XP detects that as a new hardware and installs the USB drivers for it. Pockect PC ...., just accept the driver installation when it warns you that the driver is not signed.
- Past all of that you should now be ready to use the Official ROM file from HTC, run the file, and go through the steps. It should start the ROM upgrade.
Well I hope it helps you as these steps did bring my phone back after a failed ROM upgrade.
Cheers
thanks for your instructions .
i will try and post results
Is your phone CID locked?
Because if so, you have to go to your phone provider and see if they have their own official rom!

X1 ROM Upgrade Failure

Hi All,
I've just attempted to upgrade my X1's ROM via the Upgrade Service tool downloaded from the Sony Ericsson Website. Unfortunately, it froze at 69%. Neither trying to restart the device nor re-installing the ROM seemed to work. Which I got to the multi-colored screen it jus spelled "Upgrade ROM code error". I attemped using MTTY to reboot the device, but it seemed to be stuck at the Sony Ericsson Logo screen and not moving there after.
Was wondering if any of you have experience this before and would be exceedingly delighted to hear any advices on how I could fix this. thanks
Try flashing the ROM via micro-sd card as described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445662
Download the needed ROM Image from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475482
I don't think 'chongchian' has the X1 hardspl, otherwise it wouldn't work on SE upgrade service...
Better wait if someone else has any better ideas

I think there is no need for hardspl if you are updating via the SE update service. Suggestion of skycamefalling is the best possible solution, using the micro-sd card.
This is incorrect information...I have mine hardspl'd and seus updates it fine...I would try re-running the seus update program..as long as its in bootloader it should work and attempt to reflash the device.

SEUS wouldn't let me update it after I HARD SPL flashed it.
Then something else is wrong...lol
Please help me, I am almost hopeless now
I had my X1 with Dutch ROM, so I had it Hard-SPL, and it confirmed 0.72.Oli.Nex
After that, I tried to flash a new English ROM on my PC, but it fall at 10% (ROM Code error).
I had to use MTTY to boot it, so that problem was solved, but the WinCE OS seemed to be destroyed during the process, so when I turned on the phone, it always stuck at the SonyE Bootscreen.
And then, I bought a microSD and formatted it with FAT32, download a ROM,extract it to .img file, change the name and filetype to Kovsimg.nbh, copy the ROM to microSD, flash it, but it said No Image Found
Please, please help me
Please tell me what I have to do now.
My X1 doesn't have any guarranty

Flashing with SEUS and HardSPL?

HI Guys,
is it possible to flash (or check if R3 is existing ) via SEUS when i have installed hardSPL?
When I follow the instructions in SEUS the application doens't check my firmware...
I got in tricolor mode and attached usb cable but nothing happens?
do i have to revert to stock spl or is there a special trick?
thanks & greets from austria
Alex
No, u dont need to revert to stock SPL for using SEUS..
Just make sure u have sync ur X1 properly with activesync/windows mobile device center before using SEUS.
But if u'r using cooked ROM, i suggest u revert back to Stock ROM first.
hm, weird..Im having the same issue..
perhaps its win7 related
That's odd. I thought the new SEUS should work well with Win7, itje.
I just tried on my laptop with vista...It started with no problem
but I dont get any r3 updates, just to reinstall the stock rom I now have...

I think it's not Win7 problems. I've tried it with Vista, SEUS didn't work when I was using cooked ROM, then i revert to stock ROM and it works.
lol, did you think I tried with cooked rom?
I have try it with hard-spl olinex and with my own custom rom that is a light version of official rom (without videos and ringtones) made be me. jejeje
And seus works ok. Not problem at all..
Bthw i use win xp pro sp3
i have tried it now several times, only one time the status screen "checking version" came up but didn't really do anything....
reinstalling of seus didn't change anything
What ROM r u using? Cooked or Stock ROM?
I'm using generic_AT_R2 rom / stock...
but i have just discovered that my battery is < 50 %
will charge it now and try again later... maybe sw checks the status? (error message would be fine )
hy all
Small seus guide
1.unplug the phone
start seus and click next till it asks to connect phone
2.pull the battery
press volume down and power (enter bootloader)
3.connect the phone
and seus will recognise it

Hi Jerpelea..
Can you confirm if SEUS works with Cooked ROM? Some ppl reported SEUS worked with it, but in my experiences, it never worked with WM6.5. Or maybe SEUS only works with WM6.1 cooked ROM? or maybe I miss something?
I have use seus with my own custom rom that i made with an original wm6.1
R2AA from LAM i just take out the videos and other stuffs like bigs mp3...
And seus has work well...
hi!
i justed tried it with a full battery but same mistake again...
went through all instructions, phone is in tricolor, connected usb but then nothing happens...
i'm using SPL-0.72.OliNex
any suggestions?
thanks!
hi again!
just tried it again on a differnt computer, now i tried it with windows XP
and it worked
so there is a big problem with vista sp1..
tried to reinstall drivers and so on but it simply doesn't work
-> win XP worked great now I have 3RAA007 generic AT
greetz from AT
Well i think the problem is Vista/Windows 7.
The odd thing is that it can discover the device when it's not in bootloader mode(though not flash it because it's not in the bootloader mode).
It tells you the device couldn't be verified, but to me it seems like the program will only work if your device has an established partnership with ActiveSync/Mobile Device Center. But the device in bootloader mode isn't capable of establishing partnership, and therefor it doesn't get detected by the application.
That's my theory atleast.
I've used seus with a custom rom. But it definitely doesn't work in win7.
XP it works everytime, and vista seems a bit hit and miss..
I got my phone last friday and tried SEUS almost straight away, Windows 7 really doesnt like it. Had to use my xp laptop
Hmm... weird. I'm on HSPL with an original ROM, but not stock.
SEUS goes as far as "Checking connected phone" and then exits.
Any ideas?

cannot hardspl the phone anymore(Secret anti-hardspl lock?)

I had to take my xperia to store for maintainance and stock-spl'd it. Which went okay. I got it back yesterday, but now everytime I try to hard-spl the phone. I get the 262 error. Any idears?
can there be engaged some secret anti-romupdate anti-hard-spl lock on my phone???
the spl is 0.78.
SEUS can't see the phone, neither the rom-update utility.
If your SPL is 0.78, it seems like SE change the stock SPL of the X1
The stock SPL should be 0.72
So if it is true, you may have to wait for a new hardSPL...
oooh if you have spl 78 what sys do you have?

Just install stock ROM, then stock SPL 0.72. At last connect to SEUS and search for new ROM (SEUS will install stock SPL 0.78 without you having to flash a new ROM via SEUS).
But I can confirm the new stock SPL is 0.78, SEUS installed it when I connected to search for new R3AA013 Dutch Vodafone ROM.
I need to bring my X1 for service. I have flashed the original stock rom from Pavel's sticky thread, then flashed stock SPL 0.72. Phone works ok, and bootloader now says SPL-0.72.0000
However, no matter how many computers I tried I can't get SEUS to recognize the phone - when I plug the USB cable, Windows says "USB device not recognized", SEUS doesn't find the phone (stays at the prompt to plug in the bootloader started phone). Anyone have a suggestion what is going on?

Sometimes, SEUS and ActiveSync are not very good friends...
Try that: on your computer, go to ActiveSync settings and uncheck "allow USB connection".
Then, retry SEUS

Update Service not recognizing the device (official update)

I got xperia for about 7 months now. Back in feb. 2009 i installed the update service suite from SE and upgraded my rom following the onscreen indications...everything worked fine and i was happy 'till now when i want to update the rom again.
So...i download the new version of update service from SE website...install it, do exacly as they say but i can't get my phone detected when the colour lines appear...it goes from serial to usb a few times then i get the message on the PC...it can't detect my device. I pugged out everything from my laptop, changed the **** usb port, rebooted, killedmyself a few times but nothing works. I use Windows XP sp3 and it's the same laptop i used back in february when everything worked fine.
PS: this is my last SE phone...it's inacceptable that a phone like this (highend and pricy) would crack on the volume buttons side. At least for me Xperia was simply not a good way to go.
Try turning off and on the "allow usb connections" box in Device Center/ Active Sync settings. That was the only thing that worked for me.
I tried that too...does not work. I can see the bar indicator for 2-3 seconds at 0% then the device resets and tries again. Also from time to time i see a screen with "no image loaded" or something. If i reboot it the device works ok with the rom it has installed now.
Which rom do you use?
Have you try to make a hard reset just before trying to use update service?
No...i didn't try a hard reset...will try.
These are my official rom details :
ROM version: 1.03.931.10
ROM date: 02/02/2009
Radio version: 1.10.25.18
I can't belive it's so hard updating something the way the manufacturer intended to and pointed the user too
Ok...hard-reset does not do anything good ether. On the coloured screen i get this information :
KOVS110
SPL-0.72.0liNex
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707
Please help before i crush it and throw it away
The issue is your SPL: you have Olinex SPL but update service doesn't work with it!!!
Flash back to stock SPL
Flash back what...the rom that is now installed as u see in the first posts is like 02.02.2009 ... how do i flash it back ? can u be more specific or point me exacly how to do it? i don't wanna mess it up. Cheers.
The information you gave show SPL 0.72 Olinex
I think you try several custom rom before flashing back to stock rom
Olinex SPL is needed for custom rom but update service doesn't work if you have it on your phone
Go here to flash back to stock SPL
After that, update service should work
on other hand, try to download one of the latest rom's found here on xda, rename it to kovsimg.nbh an perform an update trough the sd method. works too, you know. if you do so then SEUS will allow updating again, no need to revert back to stock spl, at least, that was in my case... long time ago.
I wrote an email to sony ericsson giving this info and i'm waiting to see their "official" answer to this issue. I wanna do this the official way...don't wanna mess up something.
If you guys still have ideas i could use feel free.... cheers.

I wonder how they'll take that..
"Soooo you hacked your phone and don't know how to get it back. You want the "official" method? Send us your phone and £50 and we'll do it"
P.S. This is just too funny!
Dan White...did u read the first posts? I didn't hack anything....i updated my rom back in feb with a new OFFICIAL rom and that was that (the phone still works with that one) and now i wanna do another OFFICIAL update...how did i hack it ?

you see that SPL - 0.72 is from 0linex? Stock SE rom doesn't come with 0linex.
Really, you must have did hard-spl to your device... no way you could not have done it.... unless.... you've bought a refurbished x1 and they have only restored the stock rom for you, that's why you could update once..
Really, think again, think hard... we are here trying to hep you and based on the info you gave us, we can only see that the device been hard-spl -ed.
like i said earlier, download an official Rom, rename the nbh file to kovsimg.nbh and copy it to your microsd, power off your device, hold both volume down and power button at the sametime untill a tri-color screen pop's up, followed by a grey screen and follow instructions. link to official roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475482
link to revert back to stock spl:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431218
latest section in first post. not difficult, just follow the order.
Really, your phone is not stock anymore, but that's better anyway...
cheers.
I understand what you mean. I will do as you indicated tonight but please belive me that i only did 1 update in february and i did it trought SE update service and it worked back then (that's all i did and that's why i'm amazed).
Thank you for the info and i will be back to post news.
Ok...managed to upgrade my rom to R3 but i can't hardspl to ruusigned_072stockspl.
As you can see in the first picture the hardspl detects the image from within the phone (1.05.931.10) and the one that i want to install (0.72.stockspl). I go forward, the phone goes into 3 color mode and then i get the error 284 as seen in the second picture.
I changed the usb port but no luck.
God i swear this is my last smartphone
Forgot to upload the pictures...here they are.
i'm having the same problem as you are. I updated my phone to the R2A version around April. Now when I try to update my phone it doesn't detect my phone. i checked the boot loader screen and it also doesn't show the stock SPL. I don't know how can Sony Ericsson Update Service do this to our phones.
Did you do the sd card boot for the R3A version? I'm going to try this tonite and see if it works.
Yes, there's a post in this thread that points you to the link with stock windows mobile roms. I upgraded to R3 just using sd card. But the hardspl is very stubborn...i could not get it work. By the way what is hardspl and what is the difference between the 2 roms? one si for windows software and hardspl is like the 'bios' so to speak?
Anyone had this problem...please help me to get the hardspl stock.
