I'm tring to run WiFi tethering software so I can get internet access on my Toshiba Thrive Tablet. I have an original Motorola Droid phone. I rooted the phone and when I run any WiFi tethering software it's broadcasting in Ad-Hoc mode. For some reason my Tablet can't see any Ad-Hoc networks. So, this is a big problem for me.
My friend has a Droid Incredible and he has a custom ROM installed on his phone and his phone doesn't broadcast in Ad-Hoc mode, his phone broadcasts with a regular WiFi connection. Why does his work that way and mine only works in Ad-Hoc? Do I have to install a custom ROM to get mine to work in regular WiFi mode? If so, which ROM is recommended?
Another solution is to get my Tablet to recognize Ad-Hoc networks. Is there some way to do that also?
Thanks so much for all your help and time!
Which tethering app are you using?
Both Wireless Tether and the 2.2 default 3G Hotspot app are broadcasting in infrastructure mode.
I remember my Wii not being able to connect to a hotspot created via Wireless Tether - did'nt try 3G Hotspot yet...
Well, I've tried different Hot Spot Apps and they are all the same. I used the same app on both my Droid phone and my friends Incredible phone. His phone worked in Infrustructure and mine worked as Ad-Hoc. I don't know what default 3G Hostspot app you are talking about. My phone didn't come with any. From what I was reading it has to do with the hardware of the phone. Since my phone is so old it only supports Ad-Hoc and the newer phones support Infrustructure. I think that's what people are saying.
I've been reading there is a way to make Tablets see Ad-Hoc but I can't find any information on how to do it with the Toshiba Thrive Tablet. I guess there are different patches and you need to find the right version that's compatible with your Tablet.
So, the only solutions I can see is get a newer phone that supports Infrustructure or to find the patch that works with my Tablet and lets it see Ad-Hoc.
Thanks!

Can someone post the one that allows ad-hoc networks? I tried to use mine with my PRO last night and it didn't see the network.
Thanks
easiest thing to do is find a wifi tether app that does infrastructure mode (i'm assuming this is your purpose for the wpa_supplicant)
Can you recommend a particular app?
you should check here:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...mmary+Uploaded+ReleaseDate+Size+DownloadCount
see if your phone is listed. the newer versions have infrastructure mode.
Tried it with my Droid Pro and no luck.
not sure what else to tell ya man, that's the only wifi tether app i've found that works on infrastructure mode...
Hi,
I am using JB CM10 and just wondering if there is any working solution for adhoc wifi?
Use connectify-me for pc to make a hotspot
Sent from my HTC Desire V using xda premium
Hi
Thanks for the hint but seems that my question was bit unclear.
As my tablet is wifi only, every now and then I would need to connect to adhoc wifi i.e. to a mobile.
So I am looking for solution how to connect to adhoc wifi. In mean while I did some searching and if I got it right CM10 does not support adhoc connection (yet). It works in CM9.
One solution woulb be to change my N9 to iphone as for some reason they establish wifi differently so tablet sees iphone wifi but not N9

Did you try 'Wi-Fi Direct' in the triple-dot menu in the WiFi area?
Hi,
Yes I have tried the direct wifi and also that does not find ac-hoc networks.
So most likely I just have to wait until CM10 supports adhoc connections...
I have read a lot of toturials about this, but none of them worked for me. I have a P1000 Tab (running CM10 JB4.1.2). It would be cool if somebody could tell me how could I connect my Tab to an Ad-Hoc network. I have a Nokia device (running Belle) and I want to share my internet connection through wi-fi using JoikuSpot.
I need to create an ad-hoc on a galaxy s iii mini, but this did not come with the necessary command (the iw) so a friend I compile for arm processors, but still did not work, this device does not support ad-hoc
as it does not support it??? will issue the wifi chip driver?
It's weird that this phone supports wifi direct which is like an ad-hoc
Know something about this?
