The lights on the capacitive buttons are not lighting up, only when it 1st boots and then nothing at all.
Can anyone confirm if this is a problem I have or if it's normal?
Thanks

AW: [Q] Capacitive buttons not lighting up
Is it dark? They don't light up in a bright environment. Hold your hand over the light sensor and check again.

Yep it's pretty dark in here. I was holding down the power key in the lock screen earlier trying to power off and realised you can't do it without unlocking. Wondering if I have pressed something there as when I do it again they both flash for a few seconds

Try a piece of folded up paper or something over the 2 senors on the top left of the front top speaker.

All that does is restart the phone, it's the equivalent of a battery pull.

Why?
It's a feature to help you in dark conditions, do you need them on all the time?

It'd be nice if they reliably worked in the dark though. In bright sunlight they will try and compete but, in dead of night, they hide their brilliance.

Must be a defect then, you need to post in the "issues" thread, i just tried mine from one room to another in my humble abode and they showed up, and then they slowly faded as i walked back into my seductively lit lounge area.

Slide to wake app? I like pressing the power button

Hello guys,
Do you know if theire is an app for waking up the nexus just by tapping or sliding on the back screen? Such app exist for thé galaxy nexus.
Thanks

Your title contradicts itself. You want to tap your phone to wake it.. But also like pressing the power button? Did you mean you "don't" like pressing the power button?
Tap to wake exists but it has to be baked into the kernel and it's really useless (imo).
The `feature' works by basically keeping the screen in a powered state.. Kernels that support this feature (which is becoming less and less and less) usually set it on a 15-45 second timer... You have X amount of time after putting your phone to sleep that touch to wake will work.. After that time elapses your screen is fully powered off and touch to wake will no longer work. If this feature existed 24/7 you'd be going through batteries like crazy.
Hum ok dude thx for that answer, I want this function but il like more battery life...
Do you know any app waking the screen by capting motion with the camera? Or using any other sensors available on the nexus for doing so?

tbh not sure. I imagine someone could use the proximity sensor (which I don't think the N7 even has) but using that would cause so many false wakes by sliding it in and out of cases, etc it would also be useless.
Your only solution with the N7 is wearing a magnetic glove and waving your hand across the bottom left of the unit.
Yeah or by implementing a magnet on one of my finger... I don't find the accès to the power button very easy thought

That's not necessarily so. PGM on the Nexus doesn't appear to work like that at all, though since it's proprietary, we don't know exactly how it works. It certainly doesn't chew up any more juice on my Gnex, nor does it cause wakelocks.
showp1984 is working on something similar for his N7 bricked kernel.

Gotcha, if that is your problem you could always use a ROM that has volume wake.. AOKP does for sure, CM10 does I believe (someone confirm) and probably others.. Enabling it will let you wake the phone using the power button or the volume rocker.. This will obviously will interfere with anything allowing you to use the volume rocker to advanced to the next song etc while the phone is asleep. This way you basically have 3 buttons to wake up the phone instead of finding `the one'.

I would also like a slide to wake. Having it on my galaxy Nexus means I try it on my 7 about once a day.

Dedicated camera button

Hello all,
I'm really starting to like this phone a lot, my question is can anyone confirm that it has a dedicated camera button please? I have read a fair few reviews etc and some say yes and some say only the ZL does.
Thanks in advance

No, there isn't.
One side has the power button and volume rocker, the other side has pogo pins for the dock charger. No camera button.

It won't be as loud as Note 2. It's waterproof - this means it has to block some fair amount of sound along with water.
Anyway, i'm sure there will be a way to use the power button as a physical camera button - but probably only with root access etc. There's a power shutter option in CM and it works great.

As long as it's fairly decent I'll be happy... but I will no doubt root it for the camera mod, that would be awesome. The power of button looks like it should be the camera button to me, right location.

With a little camera mode, one could easily make power button as shutter using apktool

I still find it sad that the Xperia Z doesn't have a camera button but the Xperia ZL does. Same camera, same screen, same specs overall, same-ish size but not waterproof.
Sony is probably the last phone maker that puts dedicated camera buttons on their phones, and I like that. Every other phone maker puts it on screen, or uses the volume up button instead. I want a dedicated camera button. My phone has it and I enjoy using it. I think Sony is sticking with those photographers because of the physical camera buttons.
Yay Sony!

I was also wondering if it the Xperia Z had a camera button or not, after checking out many photos, it doesn't. But I didn't see it on the Xperia ZL until today.
Has anyone seen a mod that makes the volume rocker become a shutter button when in camera app? That would be very helpful.

Then how would you zoom in and out?
Pinch in/out. And zoom is basically digital zoom which is like cropping and enlarging (useless). Anyways you can use ANY physical button as shutter, you just need to modify Camera apk using apktool. I bet some genius guy will do it, if not then i'll give it a shot.

Snap, I find it sad too that this phone will not have a dedicated camera button after Sony have had them on previous phones.....but at least there is a mod as AayushDhuria has pointed out...so I will be using that mod for sure!

Don't use digital zoom. Instead cut the photo on your PC.

This is a big problem for me as well. I wish there was a way to disable the LED overnight using tasker or something. At the moment I have to put something on top of the LED to stop it waking me up.
Wow really, I find mine blinding early in the morning when I open my eyes in my dark room much brighter than any other Smart Phone I have owned

Brightness setting

Is it better to keep your phone on maximum brightness or lower to minimise screen burn? Generally whats better for the screen?
I know amoled screens suffer from banding and weird discoloration so I want to prevent anything funny.

Front LED notification light

Hey guys, I've been very impressed with my Flex and hardly ever put it down so I guess for awhile I didnt notice how bad the front LED is.
I've been busy the past few days and have not had much time to play with it and I have realized that I with some exceptions I am unaware of receiving anything on my phone that usually is notified to me via the front LED light of any of my previous phones with the exception of the idiotic Galaxy SII which required me to download an app that used the screen to display notifications.
It seems the one on the FLEX only works sometimes and its microscopic on top of that.
Anyone else with the same issue?
Or maybe a workaround I havent found yet?
Thanks!
You could work around this by flipping the phone over. The power button lights up for notifications in much the same manner as the front LED.
