I am on stock just unlocked bootloader and rooted. Will simply relocking bootloader and unrooting help to get updates?or I need to reflash stock Rom?
I am not sure about this, but the only reason you can't do OTA's with the bootloader unlocked is because the unlocking procedure deletes some of the built-in apps in HTC Sense. The phone will check for these apps when it tries to update and fail if they are not present. There is a thread somewhere in XDA which tries to solve this issue of apps being deleted when unlocking the bootloader.
You have to flash stock Rom, stock recovery, then relock to receive OTAs. At least that has been the case in all other HTC phones. The HTC one might be different since a couple of apps that come with the phone are not in the system partition and get wiped when you unlock the bootloader.

OT: The removed apps can be reinstalled here.

Well I havent flashed any other Rom. Just wondering if after unlocking bootloader some apps disappear, does that mean I need to reflash stock Rom. Don't think that simply relocking bootloader will bring them apps back. Hope someone can confirm that
When you unlock the data partition is wiped. Some of the apps that the ota looks for are in that partition. So you either have to flash a stock Rom or restore those missing apps before you relock.

Granted, I'm basing this on the HTC Droid Incredible, nearly a three year old phone, but with us you just have to have the standard HTC apps that it checks for, and the stock recovery to flash it. You could keep the bootloader unlocked, since the unlocked bootloader can take the same commands as the locked one, it just doesn't check for signatures. Again, this is based on a different device, so it may or may not work.

Okay, I have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can answer.
1). What is the situation with the boot loader on the One? I know there is a developer edition, but are all of the other versions going to be locked down? Also, since there is a Dev version I assume the one won't be on their unlock website, right?
2) my second question is more about HTC in general, and s-off. I know it stands for security off, but what does it do exactly? I've heard its needed for flashing certain things like kernels, but I don't understand why that would he necessary if the boot loader is already unlocked.
Im on Verizon, hoping and praying that the One comes to us, if not I'm probably leaving them. Can't wait to get my hands on this great phone, and hopefully help HTC come out of the dumps

Chirp chirp? Are there not even any crickets in here?

The One can be bootloader unlocked through htcdev. No problems there
Bootloader unlocked lets you flash custom firmware, but S-OFF gives you full control over what you want to do. This stands for NAND locked or NAND unlocked. What that does is give you access to normally restricted partitions on the phone, such as the boot and radio partitions. Even with bootloader unlocked, you need to flash the boot.img separately if you do not have S-OFF and radios cant be flashed
And doing the chirp chirp thing doesnt encourage people to answer. Just a tip.
Boot loader can be unlocked on all EU carriers by spending 5 mins on the htcdev site (its included under Other phones)
As for s off, not currently possible but also not needed. On tegra HTC phones you needed it to flash boot.img as part of flashing a new ROM but already bypassed for the One.

Technically its still needed, but theyve developed a workaround which is essentially fastbooting it from the phone.
Also correction, its not only on Tegra processors that this is an issue, its on all HTC devices because they all come NAND locked.
It's not needed but would be better if we can get s-off soon.

One of the things that can be done with s-off is flash a kernel image right from the phone without a PC

As said above me, flashing kernels during a rom flash (the rom zip will attempt to do it, but s-on prevents the boot.img from taking) without a computer or a workaround like SuperBoot, and you can also flash radios with s-off

And also to reflash HBOOT so that it says LOCKED instead of RELOCKED for warranty purposes.
Just wondering if anyone knew if the international stock recovery will work on the ATT One?

Thanks Nullkill...couple of other questions then...first off Mike1986 the dev for Revolution HD Rom has a download link for the stock recovery labeled this: Download stock recovery 1.28.401.7
Is that the latest stock recovery and it should work on the ATT HTc One?
The other question is, if I wish to accept an ATT update..all I have to do is flash the stock recovery and relock the botloader for the update to come through then... correct?

Yes on all accounts. Make sure to never take a AT&T OTA though. It will lock the bootloader down like Fort Knox and you will never flash again Always wait for a dev to make a ROM that will be flashable via custom recovery. I've never seen it take them more than a couple hours to make a ROM for people once a OTA comes. Munchy cool is running a bounty to get root and custom recovery on the Droid DNA for the latest OTA which last I checked was over $500 HTC does not play around with security

I thought that if you had the unlock bin, then you would be all good no matter if you accept a OTA or not. Is that not the case then?

Not 100% but I do not believe so. At any time AT&T or HTC can stop the unlocking at HTCDEV and then a OTA could relock your phone and you would be stuck.

Oh ok...I just thought it didn't matter because some people that has the One stated that they got the bin file and that they were all set and that they would just unlock the bootloader at a later date.
Well, I at least hope the ATT HTC One Ruu comes out soon then.
I normally don't root if there isn't a way to return back to stock at the time, but this time I did..lol

LoL it will happen with HTC! Won't be long until the ATT RUU is out just make sure to grab a copy and hang on to it I've had them disappear before and couldn't find them when I needed them.
As for the other part yes you could get the unlock token .bin file and then just wait and not unlock. Now you should be able to take an OTA and then still go to HBOOT and unlock the bootloader and flash recovery. The tricky part comes in with you have no idea what AT&T stance on this might could will be. So if there is a OTA it's always best to not be the first to blindly flash it! Now I could be wrong and if you save your unlock token (unlock.bin file) you may always be able to unlock the bootloader again. I have not personally seen a OTA lock a bootloader but then again I NEVER take them so...

I'm a bit curious why my bootloader shows "TAMPERED" after flashing TWRP custom recovery.
I have the HTC One developer edition so I thought this kind of stuff (i.e. flashing custom recovery images) was OK?

Yeah, I thought that was a warning for consumers who unlocked their bootloaders but I thought a developer edition wouldn't have this because it's meant to be fooled around with, etc.
Didn't show up until I rooted.

It shows tampered for when you change your boot.img.
I'm pretty sure the tampered message happens when you flash any recovery other than stock.
Not a big deal unless you need to return your phone in which you flash stock recovery and relock.

How do you flash stock recovery? After I do this, will it AUTOMATICALLY relock?
Thanks
It even shows TAMPERED when you fastboot anything. You don't even need to flash anything, a
fastboot boot recovery.img
is enough to tamper with the boot loader. Was disappointed at first but that won't void your warranty anyways and once we got S-Off we are done with it.

You flash the stock recovery just as you would TWRP/CWM using fastboot. No, you would have to manually relock your device (using HTCdev) as flashing the stock recovery will not automatically lock the device.
Thanks for the information everybody.
Does the tampered warning cause any other problems?

Yeah, I understand. I actually rooted the phone for something but now I realized I didn't actually need to.
If I wanted to completely restore the phone back to factory condition, how can I do that?
I still want to keep the factory unlocked bootloader of course... (since it's the developer edition)
Hi,
I've a UK HTC One with unlocked bootloader, root enabled and custom recovery.
Is it there a package to flash on the actual firmware to update to the .12 version, without relocking bootloader (and so wiping all my content)?
Thank you!
yes there is
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245615
Thank you,
but I wanted to flash the whole firmware, and not only the radio.
Then flash a custom ROM... They are all on the .13 base.

What if I don't want a custom firmware, but I just want to keep the stock firmware (with root permission and custom recovery)? Thank you very much
I'd be interested in this too as I foolishly unlocked mine and realised I don't even need it unlocked at all and just want stock with updates lol
relock will not wipe your data
relock and then unlock will !!
Is it possible to make the status " LOCKED" in stead of " RELOCKED" in case i want to send it back for warranty ?
Nope, need S-off for it to say locked again. Should not matter in Europe though for warranty.

I'm considering unlocking my bootloader through Motorola. Other than voiding my warranty, is there any reason I shouldn't do it? What are your thoughts?

That's the only negative reason...... warranty. Other then once you start messing with the system, it will break being able update via the OTA's. SO..... I would recommend doing a backup after unlocking the bootloader, flashing recovery, and the first boot up. Therefore you'll have a backup of 100% stock not midified. Then as long as custom recoveries will flash the OTA's, you can always have a quicke easy way to upgrade. Unlocking the bootloader also wipes everything. That's all I got.

I think he meant you are able to flash the "zip" updates (via custom recovery).
Afaik, when you use a custom recovery, you should not take an update via OTA, or else your phone will boot loop.

Unlocking your bootloader shouldn't affect your ability to take OTAs. Rooting or installing a custom recovery certainly might. But just unlocking the bootloader without then installing a custom recovery or rooting isn't very common. Most folks unlock the bootloader for one or both of those reasons.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446515 seems to have a lot of good info on getting a moto x back to stock, at which point you should be able to take an OTA. I've never used RSD Lite, just done various combinations of fastboot and clockworkmod/twrp (on other phones), but it appears either approach can work - which makes sense since RSD Lite seems to use fastboot behind the scenes.
