Hey guys, today I reflashed the 4.2.1 modem and to my pleasant surprise I was getting 4g LTE coverage, whereas I wasn't a few days ago on the same modem. Below are my APN settings and speedtest (good ping, others.... not so much.) I assume this has to do with the APN because on the epc.tmobile.com apn I get 20mbps down for HSPA+, but on the new APN i get less than 5. Hopefully they correct this soon.

Are you in LTE Only mode, or LTE/GSM? Also, in your APN settings are you forcing IPv4/IPv6 or you're using IPv4 only?

Wow that's a great news then! The fact that you're on LTE/GSM/CDMA, and only IPv4 confirms that your market is just to be launched (26th).
For example, here in NYC in order for me to connect, I'd have to force v4/v6 and go LTE Only. Otherwise, in LTE/GSM my phone prefers HSPA, and with IPv4 I get bars, but no "4G" or any data flow.

Impossible, as you won't be able to connect at all. On samsung phones, you may be able to see the network and read RIL in ServiceMode, but you won't be getting "4G" or data, whatsoever.

Any idea why it's so slow then? The first 1/10th of a second shows it about 60mbps then it goes down to 3 or w/e it is at.

LTE requires IPV6 to work.
Have you tried verifying that you're on actual LTE network by dailing *#*#4636#*#* and checking Phone information > Network type: ? instead of just basing on it ping and 4G icon?

By looking at that screenshot, your signal level is extremely poor. Try finding the actual cell site and then test. Also check out SignalCheck Pro app from Play store that shows you proper signal reading and can even notify you (audio/vibrate) when connected to LTE.
Here I also see about half of what I should be seeing on LTE, and it could be that T-Mobile is still adding Subcarriers, and re allocating the Resource Blocks. Once commercially live, that shouldn't be happening.

Wait... you're actually successfully connecting with Bearer: LTE? Is that in LTE Only mode?
Also, hipri as far as I know won't do much on T-Mobile's network.

Correct, check the screenies, that's forcing LTE mode in Phone settings and Bearer LTE in APN settings. 4G icon will show for LTE coverage along with a lower ping time. hipri was copied over from my default APN settings.
I'll be testing in Chantilly, VA tonight once I figure out what I need to do to make LTE work.

Not much going on in GT-i9305 section so let see what this phone can really do...
All kinds of Speed Tests, Benchmarks and Battery Stats are welcome
Network: 3G or 4G???
Just wondering how it goes on DC-HSPA+??? Here in UK, Three is fastest so far... I'm getting speeds 15-25Mbps DL / up to 4.5Mbps UL in many places!! Who need expensive LTE with crazy data capping (500MB - £36/pm) and speeds 10-20Mbps... Joke...
To check what kind of 3G connection you have while testing:
1: dial *#0011# (phone will go in to Service Mode)
2: press home button
3: open and run SpeedTest
4: press&hold home button and switch back to Service Mode...
5: on the bottom of screen look for "DC_HSPA+ : 1(enabled) 0(disabled)"
Battery:
Many people reported bad battery life but I'm very happy with it so I'll share some of my tricks how to get more juice....
My current set up: Pandoriam ROM v6.6, latest Perseus Kernel: no UV, no OC, no tweaks, Modem: BUALI6, Network: 3UK (DC-HSPA)
1. Custom ROM & kernel is recommended but NOT essential (most of them includes battery tweaks also they bloat free)
2. Install BBS and check what's drinking your juice... Some of apps are heavy drinkers (Facebook, Twitter etc....) so keep eye on battery after you install new app(s). Don't use Juice Defender, it makes things worse.
3. Disable Google Now & Locations (main juice drinker)
4. Install "Fast Dormancy Toggle" from Play Store and disable it. It safe to use. If you don't use 4g, change Network Mode to WCDMA only. BTW bad signal reception draining more juice as well.
5. Keep screen brightness on manual, as low as possible... obviously
6. Use inverted apps and dark wallpaper if possible, stay away from live wallpapers...
7. Only If you know what you doing, install app called" NoBloat Free" or any other similar app and disable/freeze unimportant processes draining your battery. (Exchange and Samsung Push Services are heavy drinkers)
8. AutoSync & NFC - OFF!!
9. Use Original Samsung 1A charger, don't use your laptop to charge phone....
10. Keep WiFi ON only if you need it. To make things easy, in Advanced WiFi settings, we have WiFi Timer. (can be used to keep it ON/OFF automatically, through the night for example)

No worries mate. Awesome speed!!! Here in UK You won't get even half of it on 4G!! That's why we're using DC HSPA+, it goes up to 20Mbps and you can have Unlimited data for £15.90 /pm!!!!!

Yea 4G in London is terrible, I know. I popped in to the EE store the other day to test out the speed. THEY DIDNT HAVE the speedtest.net app. I was like so how are we to test what 4G speeds we are getting? The assistant replied with a really condescending tone "I'm pretty sure such geeky app wont be needed for the average consumer". I replied, "So why do broadband suppliers advertise "Xmb broadband"? SO obviously people would want to know how fast their internet would be." fruking donut.
My mate was driving Through Auburn Sydney, And he got 75Mbps Down... I am based in Sydneys southwest On the edge of 4G & 3G+ coverage I average around 15mbps So
All I can Say is Telstra 4G kills it ay! haha Cant wait till they upgrade the coverage soon we may have all areas with this crazy speed

ok and what am i supposed to be seeing there to know its on the higher H+ ? I can see the first line changing regulary RCC: DCH for about 4 seconds and then it went back to RCC: FACH for another 5seconds and I can now only see the 3G symbol and its sitting on RRC: UPCH I definately am not in a good area to test anyway so I guess ill play around when im out and about. But yeh like I said you can be in a middle of a test and it could of changed how would you know unless you have 2 screens one showing you exaclty what your on whilst your doing a speedtest

I am on Telstra Australia.. Well that makes sense As my phone was idle And i was staring at the screen. So I guess If i did a speedtest those mode will change.
But still It doesnt rectify the fact that while someone is doing a speedtest we do not know exactly what connection we are on as Carriers who offer DC also have Normal Hspa+ aswell and if in the wrong area it may switch modes while doing the test without even knowing
As that DC_HSPA will change to normal HSPA if you are not in the correct area, when I had that screen on i did not see DC_HSPA I only saw HSPA+
Edit : You see mine was changing from DC_HSPA to HSPA from one moment to another like I said you would have to be in a STRONG DC area to really test DC speeds

Well i have been browsing the q&A section and general since i got the phone in march everyday. So if you can point me in the right direction to the thread that answers this specific question. I have seen plenty of us att c6603 threads and and the new c6606 on tmobile threads and the people who WANT to get the c6603 model and use it on us carriers. I even followed the lte in canada thread to see what I could pull from there. So if you can point me in the right direction and not to some thread which has a speculative answer? Because there are a lot of people who dont have this model or who are not on the us carrier of tmobile who are forming opinions on here. I personally assumed that once the tmobile version c6606 dropped that I could flash the ftf basebands for that onto my c6603 and it would work
So if you can lead me the way i would greatly appreciate it
[edge network is killing me bro]
Here is the C6606 stock firmware - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2361750
You could try the same method of flashing just the baseband from it that the people in the thread regarding LTE in Canada have used and see if that works for you.
I don't have a C6606 or live in the US, but I thought at least having the firmware from the C6606 would be a good start

I can suggest asking someone here that has the phone to take a look at their preexisting settings for you, maybe the person that posted the firmware I linked you to.

In theory, the method should be the same for you, apart from the APN settings. It goes without saying that all this is at your own risk, of course.

Yes but you stated that you needed these settings for the C6603 in your first post, which has HSDPA basebands of 850 / 900 / 2100 and LTE bands of 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 which means you don't have T-Mobile HSDPA or LTE so your not gonna need the fast.tmobile.com apn... You need the C6602 to get T-Mobile's 4G HSDPA speeds and you'll need their newly released C6606 to get their newly farmed LTE but it has a locked bootloader and an ugly 'T-Mobile' tattoo on the back.
Here, this will get your mms working. You want the MMSC & apn type from this pic to get your mms working.

Exclusive to tmobile means what to me as a c6603 user? Does that mean they block any other phone or sim that tries to use it? because I tried flashing the c6606 basebands and it would not recognize my sim
So still no LTE....so no one else has this problem?
T Mobile uses a different LTE band requiring different radio hardware....same as their 3G operates on the 2100/1700mhz frequency range and requires radio hardware of picking this 3G up...hence you only get EDGE
One of the reasons I ditched my T Mobile account for an AT & T account because you can at least use 3G with AT & T as it uses the 850Mhz frequency.
But unless you have the correct hardware you will not get 4G no matter what APN's or firmware you flash.
I do not live in the US but I travel there often (2-3 times a year) and I have the 6603 - before that a HTC One X and iPhone 5 - no LTE just 3G because of hardware

Thanks geekygrl. I am aware but I was under the impression from this forum that the c6603 and tmobiles c6606 have the same hardware? Is this true? or is it just unicorns and pixiedust?
Hi,
I have a t-mobile nexus 6. I sideloaded LMY47D and have one issue where the network drops especially when switching between towers (while driving) needs a restart to fix this issue.
I see google released other versions LMY47E and LMY47I. Which of these is the correct version for t-mobile N6?
Also if need to E or I how can i go from D to E or I... Please help..
Thank you in advance
the tmo version is M btw. there's no M factory image btw. but any factory img will work, and either of the two new radios work. the M version comes with radio 95r.
Two questions have you checked to make sure that you have deleted all APNs except for tmobile? Second question would be how did you update your radio?

Know that you are having this issue but it is an ongoing problem with the Nexus phone line that is being researched.

it is not a nexus issue. i have a nexus 4, nexus 5, and nexus 6, and they experience no such problems. chances are that people are just having local connectivity issues.
This is not a local network issue. I have been having the same problem for about two weeks now. Swapped out sim cards, Got new phone, and tried a factory reset. None of which worked. Contacted T-Mobile and Google. Neither of them know what it could be and say they don't have a fix. I have since contacted Motorola and am working with them now to figure out what is going on. From other forums I have read, this is a problem happening with T-Mobile, sprint, and even some Verizon users. Also people are saying that it is not just happening on lollipop 5.1 but also 5.0
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
I have been experiencing the same thing in my area. Its pretty bizarre, T-Mobile says no issues in my area, but I go up north and I get great reception on the same phone...Phoenix LTE on 5.1 on this phone sucks, the Nexus 5 was much better :/
Just drove from KC to Chicago. Happened in some locals but not others.

This is not a modded build, its google factory image, Do i still need to update/delete the apn's ?
Especially i never had this issue when on 5.0.x when i updated to 5.1 this issue started to happening. Please let me know.
My wife and i are both on t-mo, i have the n6 and she has an alcatel one touch fierce 2. Her phone always says 4G (unless it drops to 2G) In my house she's on 4G the whole time and mine is usually on H or H+... I have wondered why, we're on the same network and mine can't keep an LTE signal but hers can? I hope a fix is found soon... I have tried different ROM's/kernels/deleting APN's all have had the same result, which tells me maybe the radio needs tweaking or something?..

h/h+ is the absolutely same thing as 4G. 4G isnt a resl speed, its describing h/h+ mostly. the only difference is that her phone displays 4G, which is dumb, and your phone is displaying the true signal. 4G isnt lte, 4G is any speed faster than 3G, and h/h+ can be as fast if not faster than lte.
As far as i know H would be 3G, H+ would technically be 3.5G, and LTE would be true 4G. Anyway that's not my point, my point is that her phone's connection is consistent meaning searching the web, or certain apps always load the same. Mine is spiratic...

both H and H+ would be considered 3.5G, but for tmobile its called 4G. with H/H+, i see data speeds up to 41mbps, pretty much the same as most people see with lte as well. what you can do is compare your data speeds with your wives data speeds. on tmobile, tmobile phones will show 4G, and non tmobile phones will show an H, H+, or lte.
The only thing i've ever checked network speed with is speedtest.net app, just ran a test while on LTE and i only got 11mbps download and 2mbps upload...

while thats not some great lte speed, it is normal. in big cities, tmo has a bit more advanced lte out. in smaller cities, thats the normal lte speed. for example, someone started a thread in the general section about cincinati tmo data speeds, saying that tmo just started putting up faster lte speeds there. im in nyc, and see data speeds any where from 10mbps download to 65mbps download speeds, but nyc is also tmo largest market. btw, where are you located? oh, data speeds will also vary depending jow busy the towers are. in the daytime, lte speeds will be a lot slower than at 3am for example.
Just ran the test on H+, 2mbps download and 0.3mbps upload..

i just looked up ontario, california.. you live near Angeles National Forest? tmobile services are probably a bit weaker around there. it wouls be intetesting to take speed tests with both devices in the same place, at the same time actually.
So i did a test on both of our phones at my house, and they were similar. Haven't done one when i'm on LTE to see if she matches mine, but what's weird is i use to get LTE in my house for the most part, but now i don't at all.. Does someone have the link for the newest radio?

I just installed the latest EU ROM 7.1.5 and noticed that the phone doesn't connect to LTE and defaults to 3G or HSPA+ in areas with 4G signal.
LTE Prefered is already enabled in the settings so its definitely something to do with the ROM.
Has anybody experienced this with the latest dev rom or EU ROM.
Thinking of switching back to 6.12.29. Might stick to updating only in 2-3 weeks as ROMs are relatively stable.
EDIT: Confirmed that there is no LTE connectivity on 7.1.5. Switched back to 6.12 29
For those who need LTE, I would strongly recommend staying on EU 6.12.29 for now. Guess this applies to those on the Official Dev ROM too.
I'm connecting to 4G LTE w/no issues whatsoever on GlobeROM 7.1.5 (T-Mobile US) :

I had tried everything except flashing the older modem on 7.1.5. Rebooting the phone would show 4G signal for a second and it would quickly fall back to 3G.
And now that I've reverted to 6.12. 29, phone can connect to 4G. This is why I was saying its something to do with 7.1.5.
Guess I'm too lazy to connect to a pc and fastboot the older modem. Maybe the Globe ROM that you're running already has the fix implemented. I doubt its the dirty flashing which has helped because even I have been doing the same. Guess the GlobeROM devs noticed the bug and has patched their file with the older modem.
Anyway 6.12 29 has been quite stable for me. Are there any significant improvements on the newer ROM? If there is nothing noticeable, I guess I'll wait for next week's update which would have a fix.

Exactly my thoughts. The phone is still new and even despite this, most of the dev ROMs have been quite stable which is good for us!
What APN settings are you guys using to get LTE? I'm on AT&T in the bay area. I've been in the heart of San Francisco and I never had anything better than H+.
Well, Epic Rom has already been updated to fix the 4g problem. Just FYI

Oh man, thanks for taking the time to upload these images mate. I really appreciate it. However, these APN settings don't translate to AT&T. I am interested though to why APN protocol is set to IPv6 where as APN roaming protocol is set to IPv4... Lastly, I noticed your APN type is only "default, supl" which is mighty short. I have something along the lines of "default, supl, hipri, mms, fota" ... etc.
Anybody with AT&T here that got LTE to work?

Hello there, I have an international Galaxy Note 8 that I am currently using on AT&T here in the States. I have only been able to get H+ (3G) and using the NextGenPhone APN will not connect. I was told by AT&T that I need their firmware running on my device in order for it to work. This is a little frustrating, considering I bought this phone to avoid AT&T's firmware and locked bootloaders. Will installing this firmware lock my bootloader? I currently have it unlocked and rooted and do not want to brick it. If anyone has tried this let me know how it went and where you got the firmware from. Thanks!
The att firmwares are made specifically for snapdragon devices, so, an att firmware will not even install in your exynos F model, sorry man…
Which csc you have selected with your international N950F device
The US csc for AT&T was available on your firmware?

Thank you for your reply. I tried your suggestion with some "success". I installed the ATT CSC but I am still met with the same issue, except now it reports that I have 4G instead of H+ (although its the same speed as before). Do you know the frequency bands that your network uses and does the note 8 support them?
Maybe try another usa carrier csc might have better luck.
I don't think you will get LTE speeds unless at&t provisions your imei number. Same as using an unlocked t mobile USA model on at&t. There is plenty of threads about no 4G or LTE signal on stock unlocked handsets on here. I don't believe your issue is unique to your device being an F model as opposed to U.

Mate, if you get 4G, you should be fine! 4G and LET means the same.
https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/4g-vs-lte/
LTE is actually the technology to realize the 4G standard.
So if your phone is showing 4G you should have your fast speed. But also H+ have a great speed.
If the speed isn't fast enough, maybe it's limited by your provider or location.

The AT&T firmware installation don't failed because your phone is rooted, but because it's a completely different firmware! The US models are devices with Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoC, while the international (F) version have the Samsung Exynos SoC.
So you tried to flash a wrong firmware version for your device.
Be happy installation failed and you don't bricked your device by flash wrong bootloader!
You wrote, you have 4G now? What you want more? With a rooted device you can change the showing icon like you want.
Here in Germany since i got note 8, for me it also shows 4G instead of LTE in statusbar. Before it always shows LTE (same SIM card, same provider)

It only shows 4G after flashing the AT&T CSC. Prior to that it showed H+. When I open Speedtest.net it shows my connection as being 3G in the app and my speeds are still extremely low. 3mbps download and 0.5kbps. My Note 4 on LTE would do about 30 up and down in this area. To use LTE I would have to use the ATT NextGenPhone APN which does not work for me. I have to use ATT Phone.

If your device is rooted and you flashed the csc selection changer you should be able to select "LTE only" into connection settings.
Select it and test your speed again.. maybe the signal strength it bad at your testing location
