Hello.
I have a KF HD that I rooted using this process. http://androidforums.com/kindle-fire-hd-all-things-root/656683-root-kindle-fire-hd-7-a.html
I am trying to install a new launcher because I dislike the stock carousel feature. I want to completely remove it and go to a stock android look.
I downloaded the go launcher hd apk and installed it on the device. I can see the icon but it will not do anything when I click on it. Can anyone please help me?
Thanks for your time
Try installing titanium backup
Then use it to make go launcher a system app
I have very little experience with go launcher,I use nova launcher myself...

In principle, to install GO Launcher EX on rooted KFHD7 you have to:
obtain .apk file
put it in the the /system/app (using ES File Explorer, for example)
change permission: user - rw, group - r, other - r
tap on .apk file in ES File Explorer and install the appication

I am using rooted JVU firmware and would like to install ICS keyboard to my system/app.
I used Root Explorer to copy the apk file into the directory and did a reboot, and the keyboard appeared on my locale and text menu.
However, when I try to select the keyboard, it always return a force close.
Can anybody teach me on how to solve this issue?
There is a thread called "How to: Push apps(.apk)" - you will have to try to use the search function for that name cause I don't think I can post a link yet

You can also try an app called "system cleanup". I'm not sure if it's on the market but there is a thread where you can dl it or you could use titanium pro

Ics keyboard is made to work on android 4.0.x framework ported from Nexus S, ok?
As you revealed in OP you are using Sammy JVU 2.3.6 TouchWiz infected framework.
Why not try to rip out HTC keyboard and push that too while you're in the mood?
When you push an ask to system/app am I write in saying it does not deleted in factory reset..??
What about pushing to system system/media..??
When pushing an apk to system folder,u need root and there is 2 easy ways, either use a root explorer and just push it to the system/app folder or use titanium backup to revert to system app.factory reset(full wipe) doesn't wipe system apk,but everthing else is wiped..
U can also push apk to system via ADB.but a little bit of knowledge is needed

Guys sorry I'm still a noob in this kinda thing... Just wanna ask if anyone can show me STEP-BY-STEP how to push install 'application not installed' apps into system using root explorer. I tried copy the file into /system/app and already changed the permission to rw-r-r, and after that I'm kinda blurred cuz dunno to install ORIGINAL or COPY file. And by using file explorer or root explorer to install the file? For example I want to change stock launcher to other launcher, but still fail until now. thanks...

It seems to be you want arc launcher, right? First, install original active launcher, then arc launcher,it will replace active and will work.
+1 When it says app not installed, try other app.
If not arc launcher, sorry for spam.

Well thats 1 example and I actually want to install Xperia S launcher and theme. Anyway thanks mate!!!
Pulled this off of the Kindle Fire HD thread, seems to work fine on otter2.
1. Enable installation of applications from unknown sources in Kindle Fire Settings.
2. Install GoogleLoginService.apk.
3. Reboot.
4. Install the Google Apps.
5. Start YouTube. Sign In. It will take you to Google Account Manager to create/use existing Google credentials.
6. Same goes for other apps. In case sign in fails for any of the apps (except Maps/GTalk) drag down the Kindle Fire notification bar, click on the notification for "Permission requested....." and assign required permissions.
The files can be downloaded from here

Root and Gapps Working for me.
I was able to use the same Root Method that the HD uses to gain root on My Fire2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893838
After Getting Root I used this method to get the Market/Play Store working.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893410
After I got both working I was able to install HoloLauncher HD. I moved it from data/app to system/app
and set the permisions to rw-r-r. A reboot gave me the option to select my default launcher.
I may not have a Custom Rom due to the locked bootloaders
but atleast I can enjoy a nice Android experience and use some of the Apps I purchased now.

Awesome man, gonna start the rooting process now. Thanks a ton for sharing the info with me.
So.. if it's rooted and I still hate this thing, what are the steps to unroot and return to stock??
You can try this. Download the update and see if it will install back to 10.1.3

thanks for quick replay, Can you help me how to do that, detailed instruction, thanks
I used root explorer and androzip.. First you'll need a stock ROM downloaded on your SD card already. Open root explorer, go to system/ app/ and look for the messaging or MMS apk. Rename it as MMS.apk.bak or messaging.Apk.bak. now go to the stock ROM you've downloaded and open it. Go to system/ app/ and look for the MMS or messaging apk. Extract it and copy it back to the root of your file system/ app folder.. Fix permissions rw-r-r reboot and you're done.

I've got a Kindle Fire HD that is barred from the Amazon Store. There are no "useful" Apps on like ES File Explorer that I need to install GApps Store. It's Rooted but I can't work out how to sideload the File Explorer.
Any tips or links to guides?
Thanks
Just use the web browser and Google aptoid market download the apk install it by simply selecting it then search for es file explorer or any other apps you need. you should also be able to root it and install play store.

Thanks! I've got Aptoide Market and ES File Explorer now. I don't like the Kindle launcher at all and ideally I want to turn it into a Nexus 7, or as close to it as possible, type of device. Any pointers to guides on how to do this? I've installed Nova Launcher from the Aptiode Market but can't figure out how to get it to run.
Thanks.
I run nova launcher as well it has to be made a system app which means you must have a rooted kindle
I believe you just find the file nova launcher apk named Tesla coil something. Apk and move it into your system folder.

Honestly though if I were you i would follow the install second boot loader thread by hashcode in the Dev section and then follow the guide to install. Cm
10.2 in the Dev section that is what your kindle is best suited for though since you don't have a fast boot cable you will have to issue a command to put your kindle in fast boot mode BUT if you goof you'll be ordering or making one for your soft bricked kindle
