Rumour: Tab 8.9 to get Official 4.2.2 - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

Hello,
I hope this is true that Samsung are working on bringing Android 4.2.2 to our Tablet.
http://www.sammobile.com/2013/03/25...android-4-2-2-testing-on-1st-gen-galaxy-tabs/

This would be really sweet. X-ing fingers for the firmware to work properly (I don't see why it shouldn't).

Hoping to get moar love to GT-P7320 as well...

Man I hope it works out... Feels like my tab is behind the times compared to my galaxy nexus ><

R: Rumour: Tab 8.9 to get Official 4.2.2
If it's true I could also make a donation to Samsung, lol

I`d say this will never happen

Right now I'm happy with using the CM build but an official update would be cool; if only to help improve the performance for CM too.

I also can not believe it, as Android 4.2.2 seems not to support the Tegra2 any more.

R: Rumour: Tab 8.9 to get Official 4.2.2
4.1.2 would be enough though

http://www.sammobile.com/2013/03/25/t-mobile-us-update-the-galaxy-tab-2-to-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean/
I wonder if this can be used on GT P73xx also.

I don't think so, cpu is different, texas instruments vs our tegra2...

Chipset and GPU is different at least, and that's uncool :banghead:

Why not? There are enough custom roms on 4.2.2 and some of these working very good on Tegra 2.

samsung rom have quite much bloatware and eat more ram while custom rom doesnt but my intuition say it will come with some exception

Not really. Tegra2 is very bad supported and even the CM10.1 for our tab has the flicker issue.

Odp: Rumour: Tab 8.9 to get Official 4.2.2
It would be really cool if it will be also available for galaxy tab 8.9 lte p7320, since we don't have any jelly bean based custom roms for it... and it is still quite good device IMO

It`s been anounced by Vodafone_AU that now they are testing Gingerbread for Galaxy Tab, and we will get it hopefuly this summer
2.3 is out and there is no update for us????
I called them this week and the service center guy said that there were no plans as of yet to update it at all.
I have a sneaking suspicion that gongerbread is goibg to be the last update for all original tabs. Samsung is probly thinking, you want our sweet ass new os, buy our sweet ass new tab.

i am sellin my Samsung Galaxy Tab on amazon.co.uk........
i will not buy the 10.1 model even if the 7 one won't get gingerbread , simply 10.1 is too much for me even the 8.9 is too big , the galaxy tab 7 in not in competiton with the others it is another category

Changing GT8.9

I just love my 8.9, definitily because screen size, but after decades waiting ICS I gave up, its time to change, JB is not a reality in Sammy devices so I thing ICS is ok, but my question is, what is the best option, I saw any detail in gsmarena and 7.7 looks like the best choice, all spec better instead of screen
What about?

Rooting and flashing JB on your tablet is your best option. Only thing you won't have is your camera.
Sent from My Beast™
I think custom Rom is a great job, but I use my tablet camera a lot, even being a 3M, the best option would be a Sammy Rom, 7.7 super amoled and 196ppi looks good, 1.4G exynos too, would be anwsome a GT8.9 with these spec.
Sent from my GT-P7300 using xda app-developers app
Any tablet with a Super AMOLED screen would be awesome, but it would also be bloody expensive.
Come on, man! You have waited until now, and when ics is on its way, you give up.
btw, 7.7 is small. If you have a decently sized smartphone, the 7.7 is too small for a tablet . That's why 8.9 is great, because it's the perfect size.
Anyway, this is all your choice.
You are perfect right, 8.9 is the perfect size, I really dont understand why it is unique, Xoom 8.2 looks like very good
but I heard something about a poor battery time.
Sent from my GT-P7300 using xda app-developers app
So, you don't have many options: Keep the galaxy tab 8.9 (these days we are getting ICS), buy the galaxy tab 7.7(too small), buy the xoom 8.2 media edition(very good tablet, very good battery life), wait for the ipad mini (don't kill me) or head to the 7-inchers.
If I helped, press thanks, it means very much for a newbie.
Yeah I'm still waiting on ICS (mainly so somebody can port JB with the camera, HDMI out etc. drivers) because the size of the tab is just right. I find the 10" tabs just that tiny bit too big and the 7"s, while great as e-readers, sometimes I just think "It's too small for web browsing without zooming so I might as well use my phone", this is particularly true for people with a Galaxy Note.
I believe ICS on our device is due this month (all the other tabs have gotten it so ours is next on the list), so not long now, and if you are able to flash custom ROMs, somebody's likely going to grab the drivers from Sammy's ICS and use them to complete a JB rom.
8.9 is the perfect size for a tab. But much needed updates are screwed up by Sammy. Also no ext sd card slot is a pain. Otherwise perfect. 7.7 is a tad smaller & pricey. Wait till ics gets out & we will have some good custom roms to play with. Also the camera drivers for cm9 cm10 also will get sorted out.

As a reader of Linus Statement if you open my chest you will find a linux disk inside rs..., so ipad (at any size) would be not a possibility, but I liked to know xoom batt has a good performance, I read opposite in many places, so I'll dream about a galaxy note 8.9 (its free )
Sent from my GT-P7300 using xda app-developers app
If Sammy 8.9 had Exynos chipset, faster firmware updates, Amoled screen and SD card slot it would be the best tablet. I hope they come out with galaxy tab 2 8.9 with quad core CPU, S Pen, a little bigger battery and full hd screen, because tab 2 10.1 is worse than the old 10.1 and tab 2 7.0 is worse than 7.0 plus.

Do you think that Apples lawsuits will compromise Samsung willingness to produce our dream?
For now I'll be fine with my 8,9 but the note 10,1 is on my wishlist for christmas
As said earlier 8,9" is a nice and practical size. A note 10,1" is a little to big for being on the move but will do fine until a SGT 8,9 II comes around.
Now back to testing the new official ICS!
I'm not quitting my 8.9 but I must admit that I'm disappointed with the late update for ICS... I can only imagine that will be no chance for us to get an official JB.
I gave up. Christimas is near and galaxy note 10.1 will be my next toy. 8.9 (my first love) will be my second tablet only for custom roms

Galaxy 8.9 (ICS update) vs Nexus 7

I have both and after the ics update the 8.9 is almost better, if it had Google Now it would be the better device for me because of the form factor. The 8.9 is smoother than the Nexus 7 now in my experience, Chrome works much better and for some reason the resolution seems sharper with ICS.

You can improve the resolution of the ui of your Nexus 7 by changing the ui density see this :

However I see what you're saying, but didn't he kind of answer one of your quesstions? Ultimately, is this a thread asking for our opinions or something? Because it seems you have made up your mind already, minus the Google Now you seem to be more drawn to the Galaxy Tab.

It might just seem sharper based on the type of screen each is made with. The resolutions in each are almost identical. For me the Nexus 7 form factor is absolutely perfect. If you prefer the 8.9 then I say go for it.

I am serious that Touchwiz ISC on my Galaxy 8.9 is smoother than Jellybean on my Nexus 7. I have no idea why but I've compared this for 2 days now.
I loved the 8.9 but the Tegra 2 stinks. I feel skeptical of the speed claims too, but awesome for you either way.

Popularity of the Galaxy 8.9 will reduce to subzero after 20 November: Kindle Fire HD 8.9.... Simply Wow!!
If Samsung won't answer to that, they will lose a significant part of their market share.
Fire HD Won't Have Jelly Bean Either
I don't think that the Galaxy 8.9 will drop down to zero popularity when the Fire HD hits the streets as long as ICS becomes available for the Galaxy 8.9. Sure, the Fire HD will have newer hardware but it will still be running Amazon's version of Android. While they both have LTE variants, the Fire HD model will be selling for $499. I currently run stock 3.2 on my ATT Galaxy 8.9. For me, the biggest problem is that several applications, i.e. MLB.TV, ESPN3/Watch, and Crackle., do not work in Honeycomb. I get get around this by running Spashtop on the Galaxy 8.9 and connecting to my desktop for these applications. If we get ICS, more apps should work on the Galaxy 8.9.
I don't really see the new Amazon tablet as a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. The reason people like the Samsung is because it's significantly smaller and lighter than a 10" tablet. The Amazon tablet is only slightly smaller, and even a little heavier, than something like a Samsung 10" tablet. It's main selling point will be its price IMHO.

Oh come on, please, stop dreaming. Sammy only think about how getting money and updating is not profitable. The are thinking we should be thankful to update our devices to ICS(which officially was only released for 7310 in the USA). JB not a chance even in the next century(time unit used by them to update devices).

I think there is every chance we will see JB as the OTA update for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has been leaked, so the tab 2 will get it whilst the 8.9 isn't that much different in specs so don't see why the 8.9 wont see some JB love
I'd like to think that we'l get JB, but I doubt we will. Unless we all petition Sammy and beg like dogs for it. I'd very happily settle for vanilla JB without any TW skinning.

GTab 2 7" and 10" are OMAP4430 devices, the GTab 8.9 is a Tegra 2 device. Big difference there.
With Samsung's delays, I doubt we'll see any official JellyBean update for the 8.9.

Thinking of buying a galaxy note but have a few questions

I'm getting a really good deal on a note. I wanted to know wether the features from note2 have been ported to the orignal note, specially multiscreen. Does the note have enough processing power to run it smoothly?
My friend is on stock ICS and his phone is quite laggy even without too many apps. I did hear the ICS upgrade sucked but I didn't expect this. I wanted to know wether the installing custom ROMs would make the s pen useless?
M considering either note or galaxy nexus... plz help me make this choice!
Thanks

1) Multiscreen is not yet ported from Note 2 to the original Note..
2) I have 100+ apps installed on my Note & I wouldn't say its laggy..
3) ICS upgrade wasn't a flop..it came with lot of features, improved performance, battery life etc etc etc..anyways, within a month or 2, our Notes wl taste official JB..there are already couple of ROMs which were cooked from leaked samsung official kernel & seems to work as expected..
4) Installing custom roms need not to make the S-pen useless..but there r very few custom roms which does not support s pen..
Check out this thread it got some promising stuff about new note 1 JB rom 98% of things work properly

If you are thinking on buying the note , go for the second one .
We had no option back when we bought note , but now you can just go for note 2
248 Google play installed apps and a few more from XDA.
Still smooth on stock ICS ROM with hydracore kernel.
But like the other posters, better to just get the new note since you have yet to invest.

Galaxy note prooved to be a success. Initially it was expected to fail hut if u see it as a device released in 2011. It was designed futuristic. It got 3 updates on gingerbread , 2 updates for ics and now will get jelly beans soon and some are saying it will receive key lime pie. Even if the key lime pie update is not official the note gave a good outcome to those of us who owned it from the initial days. I am still ao much in love with my device and i love the s pen.
