Buying droid 4 for my wife... Root? - Motorola Droid 4

Been digging around here and I'm not seeing any threads describing a root method for a new droid 4 running jb. Before I get this phone for her, I have to be able to get all the crap of it!
It's there a jb root method thread that I'm missing somewhere??
Also, I'm a gs3 guy, so I'm a little lost with some of the development discussions. I take it the bootloader is locked and requires a separate partion to run custom rom's... Is that what safestrap is all about?
I'm not a noob with this stuff, just looking for some droid 4 "common sense" info that I'm just not getting within these threads.
Thanks guys

RAZR blade exploit works on droid 4 jb. Exactly how safe strap works.

So a root method for a completly different device is what is being used? Where is razr blade exploit, Is it in the droid 4 development thread? Or is it in the razor area? I cannot find any Droid 4 rooting threads.

Gotcha covered bro, here's the razr blade exploit http://vulnfactory.org/public/razr_blade.zip
It's called razr blade, obviously for the droid razr. The good thing is that the droid razr and the droid 4 are so similar, that the root methods have always gone hand in hand (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

my friend took ota update this week now we have trouble

i rooted my friends droid last week and all was good
now he says he took an update now all his roots apps dont work and when i try to run universal androot it says its rooted and will not reroot or unroot
im a eris guy and very new to droid can some one give me some insight
The ota dor frg22d breaks the one click type root methods, currently there is no app to utilize for the one click root method. Furthermore you will be unable to "undo" the one click app's changes, but to my knowledge this has no adverse effects. There is currently no widely know one click method on the way so you will have to root the good ole fashioned way, computer/cable/rsd there are a few guides and its not really as scary as people think

Not sure if I can post links or not, so go to rootzwiki, then go to forums, then click on Droid bionic, then click on Droid bionic developer forum, then click on Th3oryrom and you'll find it.

Don't see why you can post external links to development sites where deving is placed there used to be links to rootzwiki on my charge all the time so i don't see why not

I think the reason this thread hasn't blown up is because everyone is still trying to keep root on .902
Nevertheless, I am still in that group. Post up some screenshots!

Every one says 3g/4g is not working correctly, only 1x or 3g if your not in a 4g area.
Edit: I see there seems to be a work around, by turning on the LTE ram dump.
Is it a port of this?

You need to go to 902 from 893 not 901. I think you can flash stock 893 in rsd, use voodoo from the market to save root, then take the OTA update and restore root with voodoo, but I'm not 100% sure voodoo works on the bionic (it does on my transformer prime)

Xda has lost its luster. When I started rooting phones, everyone was linking to xda because this was the main source. Now I'm seeing that rootzwiki is the main source. Not sure why that is, maybe someone else can give an explanation

I think its because theres a lot of new users who don't read before they ask questions or start threads. I have seen rom threads where a question that was answered 10 times in the last 5 pages continues to be asked. The search function is horrible on here but if you can't read the last few pages of a thread, or 2-3 pages of thread titles before asking a question or starting a thread then you are just cluttering up the forum. I have seen a few devs leave simply because of all the people that wouldn't read a few pages, or even the OP before asking stupid questions which have already been answered. Also the moderation in some sub forums is horrible, that's another big reason I've seen a lot of devs leave.
Thank you for the explanation. Makes sense.

Help with Moto Droid.

Hello this is my first time here and this is very different than the xperia play section. Well my friend has a moto droid and.I would like to know how to.root it and unlock the bootloader. Also what is the fastest and most stable rom? Thank you for your time
Sent from my R800x using XDA
...first off, wrong section. This should be in Q&A.
Second off following any of the below advice is at your own risk (mainly because this is 100% from memory and I can remember things wrong sometimes ). Before you trust what I tell you I recommend reading the Q&A section, as I assure you you're not the first person to ask how to root the first android phone to be offered by Americas largest carrier.
The OG Droid doesn't require anything to unlock the boot loader, its not locked.
Since its on such an outdated version of android pretty much any generic one click root tool should work to get root. Try super one click or the like. From there you should be able to use rom manager to flash a current recovery. Then just put one of the fine roms from these here development forums on the SD card and have fun.

Can someone post a guide or someting about how to make the phone faster? anyway want rom do u recommend?
Do a search on here, there have been plenty of threads, also check out droid forums, they have stuff too. That's how I learned a lot just reading. Once you've rooted its easy. A good app to check out since you're rooted is rom manager, set cpu, titanium backup, wireless tether, file manager. Always make a nandroid backup before flashing a rom or kernel( provides overclock)

you can download rsd lite and flash the clockworkmod recovery spf. It won't root your phone, but it will give you a recovery(which is better). Now just install your custom rom. I recommend cyanogenmod 7 or steel droid for stability and speed, their also pre-rooted, maybe find a Overclocked kernel if you want INSANE speeds...
Cyanogenmod 7 for droid 1: http://oss.reflected.net/stable/update-cm-7.1.0-Droid-signed.zip
Google Apps: http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
Steel Droid 10.5(I REALLY RECOMMEND this is what I USE, it's also overclocked to 1ghz) http://bravo.d-h.st/PfV?key=1340527851
SN:Google apps not needed with steel droid.
If you need more help here's a guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_Droid_2:_Full_Update_Guide
Hope this helps you friend... There may come a time when you have to do all the research yourself... if so remember, Google's your friend too!!!:good:

new to the bionic. root or not to root.

Hi I'm new to the forum and I have some questions. hopefuly I'm in the right area.
Ok #1 so I own a bionic and I've had it about 10 months now. Should I wait for the new ics then root or should I just root now?
#2 What are the pros and cons of rooting the bionic? I still own the orginal droid and its rooted and it was a bada$$ phone. I just want to know if it will be the same with the bionic.
#3 If i root can anybody point me to a good root program? I've been searching and found motofail and petes root tool. Are these any good?
Thanks to anybody that can help
You can root using motofail if on the .902 or .905 update petes method works on prior versions. If u install a ics leak you can also root with razor edges method.

Motofail is easy as hell to root the Bionic with. There is a special edition of Motofail (only root program period) that worked for my Bionic running ICS. I say if you are willing to tinker. Install ICS .232 and than root.
Thanks man. How do I get my hands on the ICS leak?? Every time I find it the link says error nothing here.

[Q] can you revert to ICS after OTA JB update with RSDLite?

Hi - I think I'm in a similar boat to other bionic users who lost root after the OTA update to Jelly Bean. Can anyone tell me if i can use
RSDLite to flash the stock ICS?
ww.droidforums.net/forum/droid-bionic-tech-support/227639-guide-use-rsdlite-install-246-ics-fxz-updated-10-24-2012-a.html
I'd like to go back, reroot, and try updating again with some of the steps listed on other threads to keep root. Alternatively, may just go with CM10.
just want to see if this will work if I have already updated to JB.
No you'll brick if you do that. The security levels are different between the two.
Just wait a few days, I read on another forum that DJRBliss has been working on a jb root exploit for the bionic.

Thanks for the info. Glad I checked. Will wait as you suggested -- hell, we Bionic users have waited this long, anyway...
Us bionic owners know a thing or two about waiting.. fortunately I kept root through the ota.
"Brush up on your Ubuntu samba skills and wait a few days. And perhaps get your PayPal account ready for a donation while you're at it. Root is coming soon but it won't be a one click. It'll involve effort. We set up a root bounty on droidrzr. I highly recommend that those who care about root pledge a few bucks or donate directly to djrbliss." - SamuriHL from another thread here.
