Changing the track with the HTC One bundled earphones - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this is a silly question for some (I have not owned a HTC before).... With the bundled earphones, one press of the mic button pauses the music.
A double press dials the last number I called....
.... It would really help if I could change to the next track instead.
... Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I don't believe its possible.
The freebie urBeats headphones which you can also find online from phone stockists who separate out the bundles, include a next and previous track button. You might look for one of those instead.
The NEW urBeats headphones which are officially sold in retail packaging have 3 buttons but only the middle one does anything.
Even though HTC own Beats, they seem reluctant to issue an official Beats headphone with full track button support and instead favour iPhones/iPad support.

Only seeing 1 red button on the 'phones. Guessing all it does in 'answer' but I could be wrong. Think I need to RTFM

HTC supports next/previous buttons on the headphones. What it doesn't support is the volume up & down buttons since it was patented by iOS for their products. The only reason why this patent doesn't work on nokia/sony etc. Is because they are using different jack technology.
Sony, Nokia, Blackberry, Samsung etc. headphones does not work on iOS & HTC products and likewise. Well it works but not perfectly. The connectors in the ground and the left speaker of the headphone is switched to the opposite sides.

Try using this app if it works.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately that app did not work on this phone.
Anybody else out there really annoyed they can't do something simple like skip to the next track with their earphones?

My vote goes to Zagg SmartBudds. Really nice sound, good bass, especially with voodoo sound.
Not too expensive either.
I like a pair of noisehush nx-50 that I bought for like $10 that still work except the connection side is getting flakey . I thought that upgrading to the nx-80 would be a good plan, and it's not too great sound wise. On the nx-50 the earpiece is both kinds of earbuds combined. I have dropped my phone a few times with that headset which is likely why the connection is messed up. If you want a cheap headset with good sound and can deal with the earpieces, they're worth checking out. When i say both combined, i mean ipod style with the more in ear piece coming out of it. And I never had a complaint about mic volume. And definitely it drowns out other sound.

I also own Klipsch Image One (amazing!) and Klipsch Image S4i.
I've been using the ear buds that came with my Nexus S, I like them but I wish I could control music playback properly with the one button that's on the wire, it seems it can only pause and play, I can't control volume or skip tracks and that's kind of annoying specially when I'm running.

I did, but doesn't seem to work. I'm using an ICS ROM on my Nexus S, that might be the problem, but I don't remember the double pressing working when I was using GB...
Yesterday I tried some apps from the market to assign commands to the presses, with that I can sometimes get it to skip the tracks but not always, it seems it has a hard time distinguishing between a single press and a double press.
My vote is for ZAGGsmartbuds. Not incredibly expensive, and they sound awesome. The "hangin tight" thing is cool too
I use the iBeats by Dr.Dre that comes with Sensation XE and sound is mmmm
I don't really like the in-ear headphones, what would you suggest for me? Not to expensive...

Unfortunately companies make only ones for iPhone
Apple does not like us to use them
So they have put a chip which allows them to work only with idevices
When u connect them to legend mic do not work (but the phone recognize it as coneceted)
Only central button works (allows u to play and stop music only)
I've read that there is a patch for HTC magic
Which allows to use iPhone ones

[Q] in-hear headphones with volume AND track control

Hi,
I'd like to know if someone knows any earphones (intra-ear) with volume and track controls.
I've seen the a-jays four, but I don't know if they are compatible with android... (http://www.jays.se/products/earphones/a-jays-four.html)
Thanks everyone for your help !
I don't think that any exist... those are only for the iPhone, as it has a special headphone jack to allow for input such as changing tracks.
the closest i've seen to headset support are on 3rd part apps like PowerAMP
Too bad there's not any accessories "android compliant" like there's like iphone's one... That's the only bad point I find to android ;-)
anyway, SonyErricsson has announced their "livesound" headphones, that seems to be what I need. There's not out yet, but I hope they'll be released soon.
Thanks for your help !
I am using UE 600 vi, the "track control" I have is just single click to pause, and double click to next.
I'm also searching for somthing like this
Searching for one too. I know headset buttons work since I already have a single button headset/mic. Preferably I'm looking for one without headphones (just a jack) so that I can continue to use my current headphones with it.
The Zagg Smartbuds?
Other android users say it works (one click stop/start pick up call, two clicks skip to next, three go back one track), although the volume isn't discrete (it just modifies the volume to the earphones, not the system volume).. I'm just trying to find out if it works with the european version of the Nexus S..
Well if they do work with the i9023 version that would totally make it for me ;-) the volume control, even if not changing the volume of the phone, would be quite ok ;-)
thanks for your help, and hope you'll get me a feedback about the european version... Thanks mate !
Still looking.. maybe someone who knows can say if the foreign models of the i9023 have the same sort of setup..
one ebay site says:
Some foreign smartphones, such as the Samsung i9000, have a unique jack configuration that requires an adapter for use with the ZAGGsmartbuds.
Click to collapse
Yeah I've seen that also. Well, I've asked zagg about that, we'll see in a few days if they do know if it's working on i9023 or not... I'll keep you in touch !
The zaggs worked with my evo . All buttons worked. But like someone said only turns down headphones. Which was good enough for me.

urbeats monster by DRE

Hi Guys
searched in the accessories forum but could not find a definite answer.
has anyone tried urbeats monster by DRE and found it to work with the note II. by work i mean all three buttons (answer, volume up, vol down)
it is written on the case that is supports HTC mobile phones, but i dont know if it supports our note II
its quite expensive so i am not going to "buy and try"
hope someone has an answer for that, amazon link below

No Volume. Quaility don't match price. I OWNED ONE SET OF THESE AND ONE SET OF Bose Mie2 by far bose much superior audio and comfort. Dr Dre only is a brand not quality and long research you find on Bose or Sennnheiser (another brand much better than Monster.
Bose Mie2i is the same Mie2 with volume control such feature is named Control Talk and only work on Apple devices since is not an open standard.

I know that the wireless beats work but are a little pricey. I also know that the Motorola S11 Bluetooth headphones work and sound awsome. I have owned beats earbuds to the beats pros, these to me sound great and retail for far less $129 the wireless beats are 279 last I checked but I have known someone to pick up a set for 209 through Verizon with their discount.

Thats definitely not true, there are plenty of non samsung headphones that will work. I have beats studio with mic and volume control and they work on my note 2 and note 3. Its not the headphone its the mainly the rom youre using and the drivers installed in your phone. If youre rooted, i recommend viper for android (free in playstore). Hands down the best driver/equalizer out there.

Lies. Video or it didn't happen.
Neither the Monster iSoniTalk (with single play/pause button and mic) nor the non-Monster mic with volume control cable works for me. I've tried it on 5 different ROMs (2 stock Samsung), 2 phones (Note 2 and S2), both rooted and all of the times I've tried, the volume buttons don't work.
Out of curiosity, which ROM (and what "drivers") are you using?

Exactly. Samsung uses specific resistor values inside of their remote for volume control. No ROM will be able to "correct" that.

I actually find them to be a bit better than the ubeats you are talking about. They're essentially a slightly newer version of the stock HTC One earphones + include volume controls.
Its sad that all this guy wanted was an honest opinion on the urdeats, instead he got an argument about whether things will or will not work on a Samsung device.
I am using slimbean rom and neak kernal.
My urbeats work great, and sound fantastic.
as i do not have dog hearing, my beats pros and urbeats have some of the beast sound I have found in headphones.
admittedly i have not tried every brand, but I am very happy with the quality of the highs and lows i get from my beats especially with lossless music.
as for the other controls.
I can answer the phone with the middle button on my urbeats as well as start the voice recognition with it, not at the same time obviously.
the mics pics up sound great.
as for the other 2 buttons on the urbeats they do not work for volumes for me (music or phone call).
I actually didn't even notice this till i saw this post and decided to try it out.
I am going to look into this further and see if there is anything i can do about it.
The biggest issue i see with beats is they get a lot of hate for being a "popular Brand"

Take a look at the link i posted above you. The Urbeats I got free with my old HTC phone, so I have a suspition these other ones are very similar and may have even had a similar manufacturing process even though HTC could no longer use the "beats" logo on them.
I have genuinly found them a bit more crisp than the urbeats, with thumping bass and fully working volume controls. At that ridiculously low price I'd urge people to try them and they play especially nice on the note II with fully working controls.
Personally it was a no brainer for me to replace my urbeats with these, and the controls are a massive bonus. They're definately much better sounding than 11 quid earphones.

Thank You.
very helpful and informative.
I'm always on the lookout for new quality products.
This is what XDA is all about
I think we are talking about two different things. Off-the-shelf Beats come with iPhone controls with multifunction button (MFB) and volume control, just like every other pair of headphones. MFB works with any Android phone for playback/call/transport/GoogleNow, while Volume will not work because iPhone volume control uses different set of resistors inside of the remote. The same way Samsung OEM headphones will not work with Apple because Samsung uses it's own set of resistor values for volume control. That is why today a number of manufacturers provide two different versions of their headphones (like Klipsch or V-Moda) by including either MFB without volume (for Android) or MFB with volume (for apple).
You mentioned above HTC phones with their version of "custom" urBeats. With previous HTC affiliation with Beats, those headphones were specifically made for HTC/android where volume does work. I can't confirm 100% since I never used any HTC specific headphones (might make sense to test a few out), but I'm starting to notice a lot of references to HTC headphones working OK with Samsung phones, so I assume HTC specific headphones use the same resistor values in their remote for volume control. Even with my recent review of UE900 replacement cable which was designed with original Samsung in-line remote/volume, they also referenced compatibility with HTC which makes me believe any HTC specific headphones will work with Galaxy phones (MFB and volume controls).
Bottom line, regular off-the-shelf Beats volume control will not work with Galaxy phone, but custom made HTC Beats will.

Yeah, but interestly enough, my HTC urbeats volume control do not work with the Note 2. However, the slightly newer model of the HTC One stock earphones with volume control work fine.
That's why I suggest them as an alternative to the urbeats, where I also genuinly believe they sound better too.

The OP asked if all three buttons (volume up/down, play/pause) worked on the Note II, so all this discussion is more relevant than you claiming to own a couple Beats headphones. Something just for relevance's sake.
I have read that urBeats' volume buttons are supposed to work on HTC phones, but I have never seen anyone confirm it for sure so I assume They don't actually work. but people insist that they do. Those people are probably HTC owners who don't actually have a pair but have read the compatibility with HTC phones and brag to others about it.
I know for a fact, however, that the urBeats' inline controls work on the iPhone and other Apple devices. The controller looks very similar to my Beats Executive's inline controls too, which also only work on Apple devices. So from this, I conclude that the urBeats only work with Apple devices, and therefore do not work on Android devices.

I'd like to bring your attention to this picture:
This is a picture of my Beats Executive retail box. As seen here, the box clearly says the inline controller's compatibility with a number of devices. The controller is indeed compatible with HTC, Blackberry and Android devices. However, they all share the common characteristic of only supporting the use of the middle button, used for calls and playing/pausing music. This is why there are two separate diagrams; to differentiate iDevices from the rest of the crowd.
Unfortunately, the Executives are and will be the last Beats headphone I will ever buy due to unsatisfactory experiences, meaning that I will not buy the urBeats just to settle this matter. I'll leave that to someone who has already owns a pair and can prove the inline control's compatibility with the Note II with substantiation. I now only buy replicas, as they easily match the genuine article's material and audio quality without me having to spend hundreds of dollars just for the red 'b' on the side. In the end, Beats are just for posers - something I had to painstakingly realise for myself. If it's just for the looks, why not spend a sixth of the price for 100% of the appearance?
Long answer short:
The inline controls of the Monster urBeats by Dr. Dre have partial support for Android devices, but the volume controls do not work.
I now await a counterargument.

Post above yours I said the volume controls do not work with the note 2. However, I have just plugged the urbeats in to test it again and they seem to work.
Not sure why I assumed they didn't, but I can now confirm that YES, the volume controls on the urbeats work perfectly fine on my stock 4.1.2 note 2.
They don't with my nexus 4 though..

Do you have a pair of stock Note 2 earphones? If so, can you try them on the Nexus 4? Also, install this application (on either the Note 2 or Nexus 4, both would be good) and within the application, press the buttons on the controller.
The key codes should be as follows:
Play/pause: 226
Volume down:114
Volume up:115

Stock note 2 headphones didn't work on nexus. Will try the app out tomorrow as it's extremely late here and I need to get to sleep.

I'm pretty sure the Nexus 4 didn't come with any stock earphones at all, and on top of that it doesn't support volume controls on any headset (correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe it had something to do with cutting costs...
Any luck?

Headphones - Unbranded beats?

So,
I've been putting my One to use today with it accompanying me on an internal flight in the UK.
Instead of using my SoundMagic earphones I decided to travel with the ones included and well, the audio quality is amazing, and a fair bit better than my usual headphones.
My question is, are they unbranded beats or just some decent unknown headphones by HTC?

Possibility is they take advices from Beats or have them monitor the engineering of the headsets.
Hox earphones are great too but I dislike them because they are on ear despite loving the flat cables. If One's earphones is that great. I might ditch my Sony in ears

They're actually HTC earphones which have been made to resemble beats earphones. They're not that bad tbh, miles better than the normal crap HTC usually serve up.

I think there great. I gave my beats that came with it to my kids. I don't get on with beats, don't find them comfortable. Definitely prefer the HTC pair that came with them. Now all I'm waiting for is free wireless PIONEER speakers.

I agree, i had a pair of beats that came with my sensation and they were uncomfortable. The head phones that come included with the ONE are pleasant to wear and produce top notch sound quality for a stock pair of earphones. Well done HTC:good:
I compared with my Bose, urbeats, HTC's which is comes in box, galaxy S2 & S3 headphone and found that supplied standard headphone is best one and I found no different between urbeats and supplied one so I can sell my urbeats
But Urbets has a better grip in-ear

think they may be unmarked beats - wish they put a beats mark on them
If the stock headphones are as good as people say, that is tremendous news. HTC should promote that fact harder, and consumers won't have to spend an extra £30 to £50, on getting decent sound quality.
I have to agree. Sound better than my klipsch s4 with the bonus of added button and tangle free cord. Will compare to my sound magics in a bit

Put mine in for the first time today. The headphones are fantastic! So surprised by exactly how good they are. They rival the beats easily. There's no need to purchase another pair of in ears in my opinion. They are excellent headphones and tangle free to boot!

I'm wondering if the US carrier branded versions of these phones will come with the headsets as well. I haven't received a set of headphones with my phone since the Touch Pro. I'm sure it's probably under the carrier's discretion, but it'd be nice to have them stateside.
Imo I think the earphones are the best iv had with a phone but still a pile of #### the bass is simply way to saturated and lacks any replication of real bass sounds I.e. a bass drum or kick doesn't sound anything like a real kick, my cx300 2's and even beats tours are ey way better then the stock included ear phones however massively better then any other included and as good as ear pods by apple.

I've posted the AT&T HTC One page where ppl will be ordering from once it goes live. It says it comes with headphones... Don't know if they are the beats or just the normal HTC ones.

Pretty sure normal ones. The red ear tips ones that comes bundled with One. HTC stopped bundling beats earphones awhile back.

I wish they had volume controls.
They do look like 'Unmarked Beats', however, i saw a little rumour the other day telling me that they were actually made in the same factory, by the same Manufacturer / Supplier as Beats. I may be wrong, but he is quite high up in the Mobile Industry. . .
Not a chance these are unbranded beats, take it from an owner of that many ear/ head phones including beats tours and urbeats the bundled earphones are so far away from even urbeats in terms of sound quality they are like black and white. The earphones are very good for bundled but so far from any idea of audio clarity seen in beats earphones, anyone owning a set of tours will tell the same after hearing the bundled set.

what i dont get is why they dont have track controls like most bundled earphones?
im assuming the button will play / pause music and answer / end calls only? ive not actually used them yet
I have now tried a couple of the earphones and a couple off apps to allow for music control from the mic button presses on the earphones, but have not managed to get the HTC one skip track, let alone change volume.
Therefore I am thinking maybe the phone itself may be the issue (it always re-dials the last called when I double tap the button on the earphones)
Anyone had success with any earphones on the HTC one? (please don't comment if you have used a different HTC phone, as this problem may be HTC specific) if so, please help with specific details.
Thanks

I have the UR Beats as well for comparison. I agree that the standard headphones are weaker when reproducing bass, but otherwise the clarity and overall quality of sound reproduction is very good. If you travelling on public transport etc the free headset is actually a good option.
