Poll - ''Performance Control" - useless/useful - Nexus 4 General

Many devs have started to include Performance Control in their rom settings.
I never use it since I think kernel apks offer many more options to control the kernel.
What about you, do you find "Performance Control" useless or useful?
Vote!
NOTE:
This thread has no intention to bash any of our hard working devs.
Their work is greatly appreciated.

Section Guidelines -- READ THIS FIRST

This area is currently experimental and was set up by the XDA Administrators for development discussion. The idea in this section is for developers (not only recognized developers, but all developers) to have a place for discussion threads to "talk shop." What kind of talk? Some topics (that I'm making up as I type this) might include (and are certainly not limited to):
Overriding the power widget in the notification dropdown
Considerations of using gcc versions other than 4.4.3 for compiling the kernel
Exynos: discussion on working around the SOC wake from sleep delay
This isn't a Q&A forum. However, developers might kick off discussions with a question. The difference? This belongs in Q&A: "My phone wakes up slow, will it go faster if I take my sdcard out?" On the other hand, the following might belong in this new section: "Has anyone tried adjusting the mmc detection timeouts to see if there's an impact on the SOC wakeup delays?" The assumption here is that the person asking the latter question actually knows what a mmc detection timeout is, how they'd change it, and has started to play around with it before posting the question.
As well, this section is not for posting finished products or "advertising" of kernels, apps, etc. This section is to discuss the process, not for the end result.
The hope (at least my own hope) is that developers can discuss things here instead of resorting the various other methods of communication we've used. At the same time, newer developers and even non-developers can LEARN from the conversations and eventually participate.
Depending on the reception (and difficulty moderating, probably) this experiment will either be expanded for other device types, completely shut down as a failure, or adjusted. Obviously, if we developers don't use it, it might be considered a waste of time and dissolved.
This section will be very closely moderated by moderators who are also developers and non-development discussion will be harshly dealt with.
I REALLY hope this will encourage more devs to spend time with open communication. This is XDA-Developers. Let's do development.

[VIDEO PRODUCERS NEEDED!] What Is Your Perfect Teleprompter?

As a filmmaker, I shoot several different types of videos. One thing I have been trying to do is find a cost efficient teleprompter. With so many inexpensive tablets on the market, using an Android app seems like the most logical solution to this problem. I have tried several apps so far but none of them seem to fit my needs 100%.
I am not a developer, I am a filmmaker. I do however, have spoke to a developer interested in helping me solve my problem by creating a app from the ground up that is design exactly how I want it to be with the functionality that it needs. Before embarking on this task I would like to get some feedback from other video professionals and app developers alike on things ranging from currently available apps, things that are wrong with currently available apps & features that would be included in The Perfect Teleprompter App.
I expect that there will be a lot of responses that say there are options currently available and that the need for yet another teleprompter app does not exist. That being said, unless I find an app that has an interface that I like, the functionality that I need and the peripherals to make it even better, I will probably continue to pursue this project. THE PURPOSE OF THIS THREAD is to allow other filmmakers to provide their input and thoughts about what the perfect teleprompter app would be.
Features I currently have in mind (This list will change as I receive feedback. ):
Clean, Usable Interface
Dropbox and Google Drive Access
In App Editing
Speed Control during prompting
Text Size Options
Light & Dark themes
Movable Location Arrow (An arrow on the side of the screen that allows you to move it vertically to show the target location of the line being read.)
Bluetooth connection so your phone could be used as a remote.
Wired remote option
Mirror Mode
Scroll to any part of the script and start it rolling from that location
Free, fully functional version (No Ads)
Custom app branding (change splash screen to display your companies logo)
I want this thread to be a way for all of us to collaborate and make an app that we all enjoy using. It is a big project for me to take on and because of that, I feel it would be silly to keep it all to myself. Please post any suggestions, questions, idea or concerns. My goal for this project is to finally provide a teleprompter that does exactly what we need it to do as a producers. Thank you for the help and feedback and hopefully together we can get this app launched for everyone to use.
Thank you so much,
zpeverman

Heads Up Notifications

Is there a module anywhere that would allow a quick reply directly from the heads up notification similar to the functionality on IOS? Or really just replying straight from the notification tray.
Afaik, this kind of module does not exist yet. Also I haven't seen this (or similar) feature yet except on some mockups. If there are already some practical resources (except of the mockups) please redirect me to them, would highly appreciate it!
Anyways, I've already suggested to create such a module on some G+ communities, but didn't continue further development because the people were hardly reporting any feedback...
Let's see how this thread will move on and if there are more people except us two who would love to use this feature lol

Published update for applock on tasker wiki

I've published my additions to the tasker applock on the wiki page. This is my first attempt at programming in tasker and I'm pretty proud of it. Keep in mind I'm not a programmer I'm a bus driver. If you have any suggestions on how to improve my methods please feel free to share.
Byte me
Logan
First, I applaud you. Not just for giving Tasker a shot, but posting and sharing. Its an app that's more powerful than any other app, probably by a Dev that's more powerful than 99% any other dev. Like Tasker and Xposed devs (chainfire too) would cure all bad things if they joined forces. So the learning curve is STEEEEEEP and since there's about 2000 other ways to do whatever it is anyone is doing in Tasker, it's very very daunting. Kudos.
Now having said that, I instantly turn away from anything with an "app context" in Tasker as it uses polling which will inevitably crush battery life.
I refuse... REFUSE to have a single profile that utilizes it, (and have completely removed all WAIT actions from my tasks too.. Just bragging here)
I would rather see something that utizes shell commands or permission settings on the package before app polling. Just my thoughts and has NOTHING to do with your tasks. Just sharing my ideas

[AKT][25th Dec][BETA] Advanced Kernel Tweaks v2.2.2 For OP5 & S835 devices

After the enormous success and admiration from the discerning users, and being featured on a lot of sites among which are quite famous sites for the tech enthusiasts such as Android Authority and XDA's Portal, it was extremely hard on me and my fellow developers not to extend our support to such a great device as the OnePlus 5. But thankfully, my colleague XDA Recognised Contributor @Funk Wizard came to the rescue and made that possible. I am quite sure that you all would like to join me to thank @Funk Wizard and OnePlus' Adam Krisko for giving me the honour to develop for such a mesmerising device. Hopefully you can enjoy my endeavours in that project. I would also like to thank my fellow leading developers of the original AKT project @Senthil360 @patalao and @Asiier for doing their best. It was a wonderful journey that I am certain it wouldn't have been that enjoyable without them. And of course, I would like to say a huge thanks to all the users of AKT for their feedback and care - that goes without saying. I know I have been late and I am sure many have longed the release for unbearably long time, but as they say, better late than never.
Ladies and gentlemen, I hereby declare AKT support of the OnePlus 5!
If you are not familiar with what AKT is, I strongly urge you to head over to the original thread herehttps://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/advanced-interactive-governor-tweaks-t3476589/
Now let's get to business. With the initial release, you shall find all the profiles you used to find in AKT for the OP3/3T and a pair of two new quite experimental profiles developed by my teammate @RogerF81 tailored specifically for those who use the EAS based RenderZenith kernel and Revan kernel, under the name of Soilwork, with a battery variant and balanced variant. Those who are unfamiliar, here is the breakdown of what you will find:
AKT is mainly divided into 3 segments: Battery, Performance and Balanced.
In each segment, the profiles are organised from the least battery friendly to the most battery friendly in ascending order
Installation:
1- Download the latest AKT zip file from the download link below
2- Reboot into TWRP recovery
3- Flash the zip file you have previously downloaded
4- Reboot into system and leave it for a couple of minutes to settle
5- Open your desirable terminal emulator app
6- Grant it root permissions by typing "su" (without quotes)
7- Type "AKT" (without quotes). It MUST be capitalized or else it won't work
8- Follow the on-screen instructions displayed. I am fairly confident that they are intuitive enough to guide you to your profile
9- Enjoy!!
Notes:
-> To judge the profile in question fairly, more particularly when it comes to evaluating how better or worse the profile has performed on the battery life front, you must use the profile for at least 2-3 charges (about 3 days) to expose the profile to all your different usage patterns.
-> Battery life can be judged quite well with the aid of some figures, such as the active and passive drain rates reported from apps like EX Kernel Manager or AccuBattery. The separation of the active and idle drain rates is crucial when it comes to judging such things.
-> If you are worried about the impact of AKT on your idle drain, then I strongly suggest you to read this post here. I believe this should clear a lot of the common misconceptions.
-> This tweak is applicable across all phones that share the same SoC, that is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. However, it won't be as compatible as with the OnePlus 5 due to various differences in the UI skin the phone in question bears and the presence of some proprietary engines, some of which can be quite intrusive like HTC's pnpmgr. I reckon it is still worth a try though. Worst case would be full incompatibility which can be remedied by following the on-screen instructions to uninstall AKT

FAQ
More links will be added when needed.
Known Issues:
1- Soilwork profiles appear to stall for a bit when selected, though the settings get changes properly.
2- For some people, the selected profile does not get applied on boot.
3- Xana and Zhana profiles fail to change the big cluster's settings accordingly Fixed!
you tell me if there are more issues

Finally ... Many thanks for bringing the AKT to the Cheeseburger
Oh boy oh boy glad to see you here mate
Finally most awaited mod came to op5 too
Yes sir. Thanks for your work. <3
Just curious.....how much is really changed from default RenderZenith settings? In other words, for EAS OP5, are you only modifying the following? Or is there a lot more to it? And are your settings dramatically different from RenderZenith Default?
SchedTuneBoost
Dynamic Stune Boost
Input Boost Freqs
Input Boost ms
Thanks for all the hard work. I used AKT on my OP3 and loved it.
Thx mostafa wael for the bring up.
And ofcourse all the others who helped.

there is more changed than just that.
Do note that the current profiles are quite experimental
Thanks gonna try it, I'm curious what from the promises become true, as I was disappointment from custom kernels..
Forgot to ask....but do we need to apply tweak every time we reboot? Or after setting it up once, will it apply on reboot automatically?
Any way to verify it working? Current profile still says stock before and after reboot, after applying GhostPepper.
I'm rooted with Magisk on Pure Fusion OS, running Lightning kernel V13

Mmmm......When I just applied Soilwork_Battery profile, it stalled for a bit, then I was taken back to the Main menu and Current Profile says "Soilwork Battery"
Not sure what is going on with yours.

Logically it should automatically apply on reboot but i guess there is some problem with the init.d script. The values don't seem to stick post boot.

It is good only until you reboot. Check your tweaked values with EXKM before and after a boot and you'll get to know.

Just a reminder for all new (and I guess some veteran users as well)
If you have a question or problem about the tweaks you can either just ask it on the thread so anybody can answer it, but If you want to use to get noticed about your question please use the mention system
For example use @Asiier, so I will get noticed
Although most of the questions and problems would have been addressed on FAQ, so go ahead and take a look at it before posting anything.
If you do post, please give as much information as possible!
So, concerning the Soilwork tweaks, my fellow teammate @Mostafa Wael already introduced them in some future, I plan to provide HMP tweaks as well, but this will take some time. I'm new to AKT, but I have some experiences due to Advanced kernel tweaks for the Nexus 5X, LG G4, Nexus 6P and my very own profiles for the HTC 10. As @Mostafa Wael already said, my tweaks are a bit experimental. The aim is to provide accurate balance between battery and performance on my balanced profile, and really good battery life on my battery profile obviously. So far, my introduction

Should apply profiles on boot without issue.

Yes, Soilwork profiles stall for a bit when selected. I'll write that down in my to-fix list. However, the profile will be applied successfully
