I believe Amazon released an update today as my KFHD just rebooted itself and turned back on with a progress bar. My question or issue is this: does an update automatically cause a rooted KFHD to lose root access? I still have access to Google Play store and a bunch of apps I could only access through root. And most of the apps still work except LMT Launcher, which is the only one that is no longer working as far as ive noticed. So all I have to do is plug back in and root my KFHD again and I should be good, right?
Version 7.3.0 is out. Here are the specs from the Amazon page:
"Support for X-Ray for Textbooks
Explore the “bones” of your textbook, and access all the most important terms and concepts, with glossary definitions and links to relevant textbook pages.
Simplified Chinese Support
In addition to the other languages offered, you can now change your device language to Simplified Chinese.
Track your reading progress with Time To Read
Kindle Fire HD 7” calculates your reading speed to let you know when you’ll finish a chapter or book.
Support for Kindle Editions with Audio/Video
You can now read books that contain audio and/or video clips.
Print Replica Textbook Enhancements
Scroll through thumbnails at the bottom of the screen to preview pages and jump quickly between chapters, and mark important notes and highlights in your Notebook for easy reference."
None of this seems overly important, but then again I do like to have the latest version as long as there is no harm to the root.

Anything you install as a system apk will be deleted. When amazon sends an update it typically sends system.img, recovery.img and boot.img.
That is why the lmt launcher will not work because it has to be installed as a system.apk to work, same with root access since su binary is placed within the system files.
if you want to install the 2nd bootloader, you should not update. Amazon have fixed the bootloade with the update and so it dosn't work for now. i don't know, if it perhaps work with soupkit, because the insallation is a little bit different, but the resultat is the same (I could install kinelogy 1.1 after doing that).
I'm still on 7.2.1, found Wi-Fi performance/range considerably better than on 7.2.3, unless 7.3.0 improves it I won't be updating for quite some time.
This explains why I lost root and Go Launcher HD yesterday. Regained root with the same Noob Simple guide here with little more than annoyance. The file to prevent the OTA update had been moved per the guide (otacerts.zip) but think I deleted it in a cache cleaning frenzy... that will learn me

Ouch! I got caught by this update . . . i am now running 7.30 on my KFTT 7"
Sad, since I had a nice rooted image all set up well. Unfortunately, I became a bit lazy and did not check on whether or not I had effectively disabled updates during my last restore/reflash of 7.2.3 (I had not done that ;-(
sigh! Like you, I have all my apps and the Play store working, but anything requiring root -like root explorer or TIBU, won't work until I can reroot on this version -or flashback. . . The only question is whether the root exploitation works on this new version, I am not sure any of us has tried yet. . .oh well. . here we go (again!)
EDIT: OK, I was able to re-root the same way I did before (used the tools in prokennexusa noob threads!) All back to normal!

Same root method worked, system feels about the same with tweaks installed and benchmarked similarly (7344 vs 7444 with AnTuTu)
I just can't get my launcher off of the stock one. Nothing will take.
I simply plugged my KFHD back in and re-rooted. I regained access to applications that required system access. So my LMT is working again. I didn't lose any apps as far as I've noticed. This update turned out to be a pretty minor inconvenience.

I had this issue as well - and then noticed something else that was really weird. When I tried to move to /system/app it only moved to system - but I also noticed (at least in my case) it was renaming the file by adding "app" (which was the folder name I was trying to move it to) on the front of the file name - so... GoLauncher HD.apk was being renamed appGoLauncher.apk but was landing in the /system folder instead of /system/app
So - I created a new folder called "temp" in the /System/App directory (i.e /system/app/temp) and moved the files there. Sure enough, they landed in /system/app with the the word "temp" appended to the front of the file name, so GoLauncher.apk was now tempGoLauncher.apk. However, it was in the right directory - so I then simply renamed it by removing the "temp" from the front of the name and continued with install
I still have lots of other issues though in getting it to work. It appeared to be working for a while, but has stopped again.

Actually, I tried 3 different ways.
1) I reluctantly attempted ProKennexusa's method via the KFFFirstAide tool. I say reluctantly since I'm pretty much a Nova snob. I guess luckily for me, it wouldn't take.
2) I then moved onto downloading Nova from the store. The store claimed that both installs went good, but had no option to change my launcher. Upon inspection, the Nova launcher file was nowhere to be found on the device. The pro unlocker could be found, but no the launcher.
3) Since I had a couple of older copies in Dropbox, I figured I'd try those. Usually I could install straight from Dropbox. Not last night. I could launch the install, but the Kindle wouldn't allow me to press the install button. I then just saved the file to the device and still couldn't get it to install. It wasn't until moving it to system/app that I was able to actually install it. But still, no option to set it as my launcher.
This morning, in a bit of Kindle rage, I literally rebooted the device 23 straight times pausing between boots to see what happened. On the 23rd reboot, it finally asked me which launcher to set as default. So now I finally have gotten away from the freakish kindle launcher and am back at home with Nova.

**NOTE FOR VEGAN TAB USERS** Steps 1-5 are no longer necessary for you, as the build.prop file in your /system directory has a working market fingerprint out of the box. Just apply the standard Market Fix (steps 6-8) and you are good to go.
I've seen several people complaining that the "full market" we had on G Tablet after the established market fixes wasn't quite full. Well, I've solved that problem, through a mixture of reading what others have done with other devices and experimentation. I will not promise that this gives you *everything*, but I do believe it gives you apps that otherwise required the release-keys status. Some of the apps you get may of course not work. But several applications I looked for before (TV.com for example, with streaming CBS video content) were not available with the previous market fix, and are now available with this fix. In fact, TV.com even works, except for a very minor video glitch in the upper left corner of the screen, and it's a cool app to get some quick streaming video content going on your G Tablet.
**NOTE** I take no responsibility for you screwing up your G Tablet. Please backup your system in Clockwork Recovery before doing any of this!
**EDIT** Removed unneccessary steps after feedback in this thread. Process is now very simple. Edited step 1 to clarify you need paid version of Root Explorer.
Here's how to do it:
0) Backup in Clockwork Mod. Please. I don't want you mad at me if this messes up your ROM.
1) Get the paid version of Root Explorer installed on your G Tablet. Apparently the free version lacks a text editor. If you only have the free version, the text editing step will need to be done in a separate program, or you will need to copy build.prop to your desktop, edit it there, and copy it back. Or use adb to push an edited build.prop to your tablet. Just buy Root Explorer though, it makes this very easy.
2) Browse in Root Explorer to /system. Then click on Mount R/W.
3) Long click on build.prop and click on Open In Text Editor.
4) Scroll down to the line ro.build.fingerprint=....
You are going to replace that with the following text:
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion/mahimahi:2.2/FRF91/43546:user/release-keys
5) Now you are going to click on Save and Exit. And then remount the /system directory as R/O.
6) Now you are going to re-do the original Market Fix. I used the simple version illustrated here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l-nySibzeA&feature=related First, make sure Market is running, and browse around in it for a few seconds. If you don't do this, there may be no cache to clear and for some reason the market fix may not work. Then, go to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->Running and scroll down to Market. Then hit Clear Cache, followed by Force Stop **DO NOT CLEAR DATA FOR MARKET, JUST CACHE**. Then go back, scroll down to Google Services Framework, hit Clear Data, then Force Stop.
7) Now try starting Market again and you get the famous Market Error. Now shut down the G Tablet, then turned it back on. Wait for Wifi to connect to your network before doing anything! I forgot to do that on the first try, so I rebooted again, waited for wifi to connect this time.
8) Now restart Market again. It seems to have sourced the fingerprint from build.prop somewhere in steps 6-7. Searches for previously missing apps now show up. Voila! A truly full market!
And steps 6 and 7 can almost certainly be replaced by the equivalent steps using Titanium Backup that I know a lot of people have been using, particularly with TNT Lite. I am running ZPad 2.2 here, so YMMV with TNT Lite. Please keep me informed if this works/doesn't work for you if you try it!
Credit goes to: Paul at Modaco for hacking on the Advent Vega and making the Market work fully on that device and for coming up with a working build.prop for the Advent Vega, Roebeet for inspiring me to look at the Vega ROM stuff with his current work on the VEGAn ROM, Rothnic for his excellent work on the ZPad ROM that I'm currently using. Basically, I'm just hacking and slashing here, this wasn't any sort of rocket science.
Paul from Modaco is awesome -- and you are as well, for making this post!
Any apps in particular that you found after this, that were missing before? I might want to try this on my device. Thanks again!
FWIW my Nexus One running a CM 6.0 nightly from 2 days ago has
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion/mahimahi:2.2.1/FRG83/60505:user/release-keys
Note the more up-level version (2.2.1) and build (FRG83). I haven't tried this on my GTab yet but I will as soon as I can get it up and running.

The only specific things I can tell you off the top of my head are TV.com which I know wasn't there because I searched for it a few hours ago. Also, I tried searching Market for Handcent before and found 14 or 15 results, and after this process I was able to retrieve 24 results.
There were a bunch of random apps I saw in the Top Apps list that I don't remember seeing earlier today. So that was enough to convince me that most of the missing 10-20% of apps are there now.
And thanks for the compliment, especially coming from the guy who made the G Tablet useful!

I'm sure that will work too, though the FRF91 build string seems to match the existing data in the ZPad ROM at least. I'm guessing the two signatures will produce essentially identical Market results.

Yeah. I may be somewhat overoptimistic going with FRG83. The build and version numbers identify the version of the system code so apps may read them and make some assumptions as to certain API characteristics. We're probably closer to FRF91 than FRG83 on TnT Lite.
This one worked ok for me

Yes this is Galaxy Tab. Probably better a Tegra tab once a full market one comes out.
I did the following:
1) Edited build.prop as described in step 4, rebooted and searched for tv.com - no results
2) I preformed the edits in step 4a, rebooted and searched for tv.com - no results
3) I stopped Market & Google Services Framework & wiped Google Services Framework, rebooted after getting Market Error, waited for wifi and opened Market to search for tv.com - no results.
I can't say if it works. I haven't had trouble finding apps, but I can't find tv.com before or after the steps above. Perhaps, I missed something.
Wait!!!! It does work. I tried again after posting and it's there! Thanks!
Is it possible to post the TV.com app? I don't want to do the mod but would love that app!
Great post man worked like a charm, I can get my slingbox app from the market now.
Edit: dammit I can't get the downloaded sling client to launch even after trying it many times which usually worked.
I'm going to give it a shot but being a newbie I'm not clear on this step:
5) Now you are going to click on Save and Exit. And then remount the /system directory as R/O
Will "remount as r/o" be an option to select at this point? If not, can you provide more detail.
The rest of the mod is easy enough to follow.
Thanks.

I've given up trying to get full access to the Market. But I was able to find some of the apks on my Droid and was able to bring some of them over using a usb thumb drive. However, not all the apps I had downloaded to my Droid was visible. My question is do some apps delete their apks when done installing? I did have some that gave me a parse error when trying to install them on my tablet. Is there a hidden directory where I can find all the apks of the apps I've downloaded? e.g xplane, rush hour to name a few? Thanks. Or... is there a way to download the apk from Market to my PC directly? I'd be so happy if I could just get full access to google market!

The apks are usually in your data/apps or data/apps-private. You should be able to get to these directories using RootExplorer on your phone if its rooted. Then get yourself a free Dropbox account which allows you to transfer files to any device you installed Dropbox on.
Look in these two locations. In the second one (/mnt/asec) you'll see the folder name of the app and inside that folder is the pkg.apk so you'll probably want to rename after you move it.
/data/app
and
/mnt/asec/(name of app)
Have you tried these methods yet?

Bluetooth File Transfer might help.
I put this link up a few days ago because I had the same problem.

Reggie 777, thanks for asking this question. I've been trying to figure out the same thing and asked about it in another thread but didn't get a clear answer.
So, to the experts: do you have to be rooted to do this? I've looked in both of the locations that tcrews mentioned and don't see much, if anything. I'm using Astro FileManager, if that helps.
Thanks

Astro doesn't show the files in /data and you'll need to be rooted and use something like Root Explorer. I just tried Astro and once I go in to /data I see nothing (and my phone is rooted). Using Root Explorer I see all the folders under /data and go into the folder app. I see my apps installed internally there and in /mnt/asec I see my apps installed to SDcard there.

No root neccessary to use Bluetooth File Transfer method.
I can only guess you need root for the method on the video because you do need to have an OS with GAPPS and Android market installed.
Root is needed to use Root explorer methed.
The Z4root1.2.2 app is a good tool to root without unlocking the bootloader and you can still keep your stock OS. However I'm assuming GAPPS may not work correctly with the stock TAPNTAP OS so getting full Google Android market with that OS is prolly not going to happen.
Thanks to everyone for the help. I am processing and digesting the info and playing around with the suggestions.
Thanks to sjmoreno for telling me where the apps are. And also tcrews. I would never have thought of looking in /mnt/sec. I was actually able to find the apks I was looking for... xplane. et al. Now I'm fiddling with the bluetooth transfer. Got the phone and tablet paired... connection is not working yet. But I'm still trying.
Thanks too to tekrhino for the bluetooth suggestion. Got the transfer program for my Droid. I'm learning how to use it. Seems easy to set up, but won't actually send anything... Still exploring it.
The video on the Market fix doesn't work for me because no matter what I do, Market does not show up in the running apps section of settings. It doesn't even show up in system apps. It only shows up in the downloaded section.
As they said in Galaxy Quest... "Never Give Up. Never Surrender." Thanks everyone.
I use TitaniumBackup syncing with dropbox, but really the market fix isnt hard... Running tntlite larest.
+1 for dropbox. You can also use astro to backup the apk's. They are stored in a folder named backup on the root of your SD card.
I use the program AndroZIP from the Market on my phone.
Do an application backup (part of the app) to my SDCard (it creates a app_backup folder on your SDcard)
Then, you can do bluetooth transfer, or plug phone and gTablet into PC with USB cables, wait for the drives to show up, and move the APK files over. Works well. No root required.
Since my phone is not rooted, I am not sure if this is grabing every application, but it seems to be. I was able to transfer whatever I wanted over from my phone to the tablet this way.
+1 titanium backup and dropbox.
Dropbox is handy but not necessary. Titanium is a must have purchase if you enjoy flashing new roms and don't feel like manually restoring all your apps and settings every time.
If you can download titanium to your Gtab your done. Dl titanium on your phone and backup your apps. Grab the file off your phones SD And move it to your Gtab. Open titanium on your Gtab and select the apps you want to install. You can even save app data this way and continue saved games from your phone ;-)

Make sure both devices have BTFT installed, that way you won't have any any problems with FTP OBEX protocals.
The app works great and reduces the extra steps you need to take with TB and DB with having to move apk's between the source device to your pc then from your pc to the target device. BTFT is a good source device to target device app.
After looking all across the internet on how to root one of these for a friend, I finally just tried what I did to my Hd 7" and it works, so here's what I did.
What you need:
-Bin4ry's Root
-QemuRoot
Also: I picked up the HD adb drivers from the Qemu page, they did work on recognizing my friends KF2 as an adb interface
(I take no credit for these programs, and am not responsible for any problems they may cause)
Before you start this process, ensure that in Settings>Device>"allow installation of applications" is on, as well as Settings>security>"Enable adb"
-Install the adb drivers if you haven't already
-Extract both Qemu and bin4ry's tools to your C: Drive (For Command prompt purposes) and what I have done is renamed the folders to "Root" and "Qemu"
Like this
Now we're going to start the process. If you are an experienced user and already have adb running, I suggest opening task manager and killing adb.exe
In windows:
Click on start, then type CMD in, right click it then "Run as administrator" Like this
If you named the files "Root" and "Qemu" this are the steps:
Step 1: Type this in the window, hitting enter after each line.
cd ..\..\Root
runme.bat
When the screen shows an interface, type 1 then hit enter, A lot of errors will show up but that's fine,
On Kindle:
When your kindle shows a "Restore" screen hit restore (No data will be lost, no worries)
After it finishes out you should get a command line again like "C:\Root>"
Step 2: Now for the Qemu, type
cd ..\Qemu
rootqemu.bat
When you get another interface type 1, then hit enter, press enter a couple times until it starts the steps.
It'll restart your kindle a couple times make sure you don't press enter until it has booted up again whenever it prompts you to.
You'll get some errors, especially on the local.prop section, that's fine, when it runs all the way through, You are rooted.
If you want proof, you can download Es File explorer and grant it Root permissions in the settings.
If you want Google play, I suggest this guide (note: in that guide, when he references "Settings/apps" he means "System/apps")
If you want GO Launcher HD and other goodies like no more lockscreen ads, download KindleFree from google play (Pro version is $1.99, needed to get rid of adds, better than paying 15 bucks to get rid of em)
Last remarks:
I don't really know if this did anything, but I went into device manager and under "portable devices" I disabled the kindle, just to make sure there would be no interference.
Also, this guide works for the Kindle Fire HD 7" (ver. 7.2.3), not sure about the 8.9" as I don't own it, nor know anybody who has one.
HUGE EDIT:I forgot to put "cd" in front of the command lines, which would result in it doing nothing, I apologize.
Edit: GO launcher HD didn't work for him, he installed APEX instead and it worked.
I would have added this to the post, but my KFHD isn't editing the post properly.
Hello, I followed the above the above, it all went well, I then followed the Google play tut, perfect.......
Then I over did it and put the apex launcher apk into system/app directory as suggested in another post, big mistake, now it boots and the launcher keeps crashing , if I click search on the bottom task bar the kindle resets
I can still adb into it, so all is not lost, but I have a question, can anyone give me any ideas on how I can get to root explorer (installed, but not accessible because the launcher keeps crashing) I would be very grateful. Or as an alternative, and adb/shell command(s) I can run to delete the apex apk.
Once you are rooted, you can manually remove the lockscreen ads, without purchasing an app to do it. It is simple. I removed the ad app using Titanium Backup Pro but, others have done it THIS way.

Do people actually want to keep the KF lockscreen? It seems like a lot more work to remove the adds than it is to add a new lockscreen using the NoLock method. However, on certain lockscreens (I've been trying a lot since I haven't used a tablet much, so I haven't found a favorite lockscreen for tablets) I do notice that the, homebar (not sure what that bottom bar is officially called since I have a vendetta against it) won't hide for some of the lockscreens I've tried. Other than that though I find it much nicer and easier to replace the thing then get the adds off.
I get that your post was a free way, but just curious. As a side note, why are there no cool tablet lockscreens? It took ages for people to get cool phone lockscreens going, I hope someone thinks up something unique for tablets!

Thanks, but the lock screen/ads are not the problem, I have (stupidly) put the apex launcher into the system/apps folder (as instructed on another post). What happens now is that when I start up my KF2 I get the message "Apex launcher has stopped working" this means I have no access to any of my installed apps (root explorer etc) to be able to remove the apex launcher
I have tried to start the search (magnifying glass icon) to manually type in "root explorer" but this just causes the KF2 to re-start.
I have access thro phone explorer, but it will not allow me to delete the apex launcher apk (probably because it keeps trying to run). What I am after is any tips/methods to be able to either start root explorer or adb into the KF2 to be able to delete the apex launcher apk.
Any ideas/tips very welcome.
on step 1, I select normal, get errors but never get restore showing on my KF. Any suggestions?

Exactly why I removed the ads and not the lock screen. Learned earlier in AVD that the Launcher is tricky. I pushed ADW.Launcher to the system/app folder and had the same issue. Since we have no option to restore at this time, it's best not to hack the system up too bad. Hopefully, the bootloader will be cracked soon and recovery will be possible. Until then, be patient and be safe. I suggest practicing in the emulator before trying anything on the device. Just a precaution.

Thank for the advise, but I have not removed the lock screen, just rooted it and pushed the google market/framework/vending etc, Am I missing something obvious that you are trying to tell me? Sorry if I am
The emulator sounds good, have you got a link please? (I have the SDK installed).
OK, all sorted
I ran -Bin4ry's Root, this takes you to the 1st step (restore), on this screen I managed to click the search (mag-glass) without the KF2 resetting (possibly this stopped the apex launcher?). This then allowed me to search for RootExplorer (previously installed) and then I could delete the Apex.apk from system/apps..... reboot all done.
However, this does make me wonder what is going on, I can install a game from google play, all good, the icon shows up (and I can search for it) run it all good. But if I try to install a launcher (apex, adw, go ex etc) they don't show up either icon or in search Any ideas why this could be? (I checked under settings/applications/installed applications/all applications/ click on apex but the launch by default button is grayed-out)
Oh, just a quick tip with the above rooting method, if your KF2 does not re-set during rooting (when it should) I just manually re-set it and all seemed to go well Also it can take a long time for the KF2 to been "seen" by the PC after re-boot, just be patient

I had to fish for em sometimes using AndroExplorer using the "My programs" tab they have in the app.
I'm trying to root a kindle fire 2 running 10.2.4, and i am hitting a road block over and over. I run bin4ry's tool, and it goesthrough the sequence of error messages, the wait 10 seconds message, some more error messages, then it says it's done. It never gives me a restore prompt.
I don't think it's a driver problem. device manager sees adb composite interface. I have, however used multiple driver sources just to be sure, no difference. Used bin4ry's original files, and tried with the ones from the sdk. Same results.
Any ideas? I must be overlooking something.
What do you get if you run:
adb devices
Which your Kindle connected try running:
adb kill-server
Then
adb start-server
Then try it again. To check the commands, just type adb and press enter.

Many, many thanks to the OP and others in this thread, as well as this forum. It was a pain in the ass, but I got the drivers and adb installed and finally got my KF2 rooted. Then I spilled half a glass of beer onto the Fire...
The case protected it from getting wet but half a glass of good beer was lost.
Thanks again,

This method worked as per the op. The only thing I had problem with was the usb drivers (linked in the op), had to get the usb drivers using Android sdk method.
Now the Kindle is no more but a vanilla tablet. Thanks.

Heya guys. I couldn't find much info on this for the X, and certainly not anything about this particular update.
I'm not too fond of jumping on board a new ship before I get a good look at it.
Has anyone before successfully blocked an incoming OTA update? I'm particularly interested in VZW moto Xs, though any info is helpful.
In a nutshell, I'm aiming to block the 4.4.4 OTA on a non-dev, non-rooted VZW moto X.
I'm sure it may not be possible without root, but I'm interested in opinions.

Ah, I wasn't aware OTAs on this phone were optional. Some devices force them ASAP on a boot-up if available. Good to hear, and I hope it stays true.

To stop the updates, this will do it but you will have to redo this everytime you reboot until you are rooted in stone not temp like Pie.. but this will stop any updates from coming to the phone and stop you from forcing an update. the two files Ive changed the name of the first two in the pic, it's the root / system / pri apps folder, I added .bak to the name, you have to do both of them.
If you don't rename them after every boot when you lose Pie they revert back to original and you will get the notice again and you might accidentally hit install when the notice pops up.. so just re Pie and change them.. I use FX explorer with root addon. It's a great app and free and takes less than a minute to rename the files.
Looks like the OTA reached me. It creates a permanent notification from the MotoOTA app.
Without write-protection enabled, you can't disable this app permanently. Most likely in a temp-root instance, freezing it in titanium backup may not take effect on the app til reboot, or possibly a hot-reboot.
I just un-enabled notifications for the app, though I'm hoping it won't auto download during idle.
And apparently (I'm) not able to freeze it. See screen shots.

It won't install automatically...almost guaranteed.
But why can't you freeze it? You should be able to click it, opening up a menu with a freeze option. My guess is that it will revert back to 'unfrozen' after the next reboot, but I HAVE seen a post or two that suggests otherwise (not sure how reputable, if at all).
I have several system apps frozen (mostly the google play music/movies/games/etc. bloat, along with a couple others). The fact that it is red just indicates it is a system app. You might have to mount /system r/w in order to be able to freeze it, but once again, I've read some posts suggesting that mounting r/w was tricky with the temp-root (and of course, will revert all changes upon reboot).
I would give you more definitive answers, but since I'm unlocked, its difficult for me to test...
Good Luck! If you can just put up with the nag, you'll be fine. As you well know, once you accept it, it's game-over for root.
Chris forget about that freeze crap do what I said to do and you won't have any issues I did it yesterday.. rebooted the phone lost towelpie got the 4.4.4 notice started downloading because wanted to know what it was.. than ran towelpie, went to a root/system/priv-apps and deleted the 3c ota files and it stopped that download as it was downloading. i wanted to download it to see what it was so i had to reboot the phone to get rid of towelpie and that got the 3c ota files back and then it rebegan the download I don't use Titanium Backup I just manually delete. I did it Verizon 4.4.2 non dev locked boot
now after I downloaded 4.4.4 and rooted with towelPie.. it did cause the root to act kind of funny I went into FX root explorer tried to rename the 3c ota files after mounting Fx Explorer in write mode it still told me the files were not writable that must have had something to do with the new download.. so my corrective action was to go into fx root explorer cashe folder send that new update into outerfreakin space then reboot the phone retowelpie and then mount fx Explorer in write mode again and deleted 3c ota files and had no problem after rebooting.. but once you download that file it permanently does something to your phone until you delete it from the cashe folder and reboot.

In that screen shot, I had just attempted to freeze it 3 times. It's as if I haven't even tried though.
As long as it won't auto download, I'm cool with it. Kit Kat or jelly bean introduced the option to disable notifications from apps, so that gets it out of my way.
tapa'd on my moto x
Once you delete the 3c_ota.apk and 3c_ota.odex files your phone is NOT capable of checking for or downloading an OTA.
And towelPie root allows you to delete these files if you use FX explorer with root add-on, its available in playstore, and explains how to mount in write mode allowing you to rename or delete any file, it takes all of 10 seconds.
FX file explorer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx&hl=en
Root add-on for for FX explorer to access root files
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx.rr&hl=en
Right, but this is something that obviously has to be done every boot, and I imagine may need to be soft-rebooted after to take effect, so the app won't load during boot.
I may do that our write a quick script to take care of it each rooted boot for me in a while. Thanks for the info

Please find at the URL below my copy of the stock ROM (Version C) for the D415, with my modifications included.
The D415 is a great phone for the price, and it came with many cool features. However, the phone still has an amateur streak running the stock ROM. Some of LG's apps are great on this phone, but some of them are downright useless for most of us. T-Mobile added their own pushy bloatware to the mix as well. The end result, as we all know, is a usually fluid, but at times clunky and awkward experience using the device. I was impressed the first day I had it, but I wanted to make it better that first day as well. I wanted to get rid of all the useless stuff, and polish it into something I wouldn't be embarrassed to pull out in front of a client. I liked a lot of what LG did here, and wanted to hold on to that, but I also wanted a few changes:
Root:
FOTAkill
SuperSU installed on first boot
Polish:
Small UI sounds changes
Boot Animation
Replaced Flashlight App (thanks to xbmi, consider a donation in the app)
Added Heads Up
Removed foo foo themes
Added Bookmarks Sync
Replaced Stock Messenger with AOSP MMS
Debloat:
LG Memo & Widget moved to user apps
LG Music & Widget moved to user apps
Visual Voicemail moved to user apps
Weather widget moved to user apps
Apps removed completely:
LG Contacts widget
TMobile TV
Lookout
CarrierIQ
Maps
Mobile Life
Streetview
Talkback
T-Mobile My Account
T-Mobile Name ID
Voice Dialer
Youtube
Amazon
Chrome
Cloud Print
Drive
Easy Home
Gmail
Google Plus
Google Calendar
Play News Stand
Play Books
Play Game
Play Movies & TV
Play Music
Google Search
Google TTS
Hangouts
Stock Calendar
To do:
AOSP Keyboard (IDK what I'm doing here yet. It's crashing when I put it in now).
Version E (need to learn how to extract KDZ)
Instructions:
Download zip to SD
Reboot to Recovery
Wipe Dalvik, cache, data, system.
Install zip
Reboot and enjoy
Thanks to @Daisuke1988 for the original flashable stock rom.
Feedback welcome in replies!

Keep poking around with it. There are a lot of hidden gems sprinkled in by lg that will really cause you to like this phone. I came off of a nexus 5 to this. I chose it for the price tag, you can't beat $7 a month and get the build quality and battery life. I would buy again. The only thing I miss is a decent camera. But the stock camera app helps with auto focus mode.

I guess I have to try this evening, if nobody's trying till then I will report back
If the pure stock ROM works in the 405, this one should as well. I'm not sure myself without looking it up.
I have a D41510c and when I tried to install this rom, it failed. I'm restoring a backup, but I will try again in a while.
Sorry to hear that, I tried very hard to make the cuts fine in this. Without further info I'm gonna guess the download got corrupted. The zip itself is really straightforward (simple script, boot and system imgs.) The only part I would have thought would have failed the installer was that I repacked the system IMG (saved a few hundred MBs) instead of simply unmounting it after my changes. Otherwise, if its going to break, it should be upon first boot. Let me know what happened if it doesn't work again.

I can deodex this but you will have to wait till Tuesday for me to upload it. or is it already deodexed?
I had thought about it but honestly haven't learned how to yet. Was I mistaken to think the payoff would not have been that great? Either way, I can wait til Tue, I know others will want it deodexed. Thanks!
I tried again, but it failed...
E:Error executing updater binary in zip
E:Unable to mount '/system'
EDIT: I was able to boot into the rom, but it's extremely slow
Wondering if it has to do with first botched install now that it went. Were you able to format /system again? My other thought was repairing permissions. When it failed the first time, was it before "Setting permissions for root" was displayed? If so it was in the middle of flashing /system. I flashed this on mine using twrp. IDK that I will be much help but I think if we can figure out the variables Google should at least point us in the right direction...
Before I get too far down the rabbit hole can anyone confirm they have successfully flashed this and its working out for them?

Well, I rebooted and it's faster now. I used towelroot to get root. Nohing appeared about the permissions. I was able to update the binaries using TWRP.
It's should have already had root and SuperSU installs on first boot. Did that not happen? I'm glad your phone is doing better! So many weird things going on there!

Weird. Can you tell me if the SuperSU apk is to be found in /system/apps/bootup?
I'm doing a backup so i can wipe and install fresh again. I'd like to mess around with the root stuff and see if I can figure that out. Did you happen to get a listing of which files are missing?
