Rooting 4.2.1 and update to 4.2.2 - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

EDIT: switched the numbers in the title...instead of 4.2.1 it is 4.1.2
hi!
if i root my xperia z (currently on 4.1.2), will i be able to update "normally" when sony releases 4.2.2? even if i installed some mods?
my brother has a rooted samsung, and official updates won't be applied.
thanks for your help

As long as you don't unlock the bootloader, you should be able to connect to pc companion and update your machine.

You will have to re-root it and keep a backup with titanium backup..Mods will have to be flashed again though.

You will have to re-root again every time you update the firmware

thanks for your answers.
should've written that i know that i then will have to re-root 4.2.2. (and eventually reflash the mods, but for flashing you'll need an unlocked bootloader).
but my concern is if i'll be able to update a rooted 4.1.2 to a non-rooted 4.2.2.
but as far as i can see that as long as i don't unlock my bootloader, it'll be possible.

It is like you have to check your baseband version from settings>about phone and find the related kernel. Sometimes a custom kernel doesn't allow updating so better to be on stock while updating through OTA.

U cant update your phone through ota while rooted so loose your root then udate and root again
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Revert back to stock using Odin, then update with ota, and proceed to root.

Or just flash a custom ICS ROM from GB so you don't have to deal with any OTA updates
If you do go for stock, please be careful of the emmc bug present in stock ics kernels. Learn about it before making the jump.

My question is that can i access kies and official samsung updates through this even though im rooted. Dont really want unroot for fear of bricking my device. Bit of a novice in this area. It wan't send u any notification cause you'r rooted and u have -#su shell active so nothing official untill u flash stock ICS kernel and wait for update.
So you are saying that while rooted i will jpt get any official samsung updates? If i want official updates i must unroot is tuat correct? Or can i still update through kies. Getting confused now. Please help.

for the pass rooted phone still able to update via kies.
now not sure !still waiting for official 4.1.2 then will know the result.
Ok thanks. I guess its a waiting game as i heard n7000 get the 4.2.1 update sometime march.

even though the phone is rooted or even a custom kernel is installed, kies detects the firmware and check if there is an update or not.. so it will let us know.. nothing to do with su shell and all.
kies will let you update as well.. but OTA wont work on rooted and custom recovery installed devices.
Ok great thanks. I shall have to wait which is something im not good at.

3 days ago I flashed ICS 4.0.3, rooted it with Philz kernel and attacked it to PC, opened keis, keis not only detected my phone, but also asked if I want to install new updates I accepted the offer, keis then upgraded my ROM to ICS 4.0.4, but I lost root. Super Su was there but Philz CWMR was replaced by stock recovery and Titanium backup told me to get out as my phone was not rooted. So I flashed Philz Rooted kernel again and got root access once again.
So, Yes keis will ask you to update firmware if one is there, but you "may" lose root.
Thank you that is very useful info. I'm already on 4.0.4 so will await the next update. Been informed that note n7000 users will get 4.2.1 sometime in March.

Hi another daft question. Phone was rooted when bought. I have installed rom tool manager from market and am using to alter my status bar. I have installed the ones I want and now assume I have to flash them to get them to take effect. When I go to do this its asking me what name my recovery mode is. How do I find this out. Thanks in advance.

[Q] CWM & ROOT for Xperia T

Hello guys,
This CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34607959&postcount=1 and this root v.31 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31545627&postcount=1 work on Sony Xperia T - JB 4.1.2 build 9.1.A.0.489 ??
Thanks
Use Doomlord's Easy Rooting Toolkit to root, and then, yes, you can install CWM.

Just use the generic CMW recovery

First question, have you unlocked your bootloader. If not, there is not much that you are going to be able to do.
Now assuming that the former is true. By far the easiest method is to google "Install_CM_for_mint" and follow the instructions for getting boot.img on your system and rebooting. At that point you will have the latest released generic CMW recovery installed (6.0.3.6)
You do not need to unlock the boot loader to install recovery. You do not need a custom kernel to install recovery.
Please read post 2 of the all in one thread to find out how to install recovery on a locked bootloader

For the root and the recovery we do not need unlocked bootloader, my question is if those of the two guides posted at the beginning work for the version of firmware that I have.
Yes, both threads day they support the Xperia T in their OPs

I had done research in google and youtube and nothing is shown. Please help.

What if not android 4.3 ?

Hello
What I have:
* LT30p of 4.3 not rooted with the ability to unlock the bootloader.
And now ... As with a 2 TTka in my career, I have a dilemma. I had a room on the previous xperiment and did not complain but now at 4.3 at present I lack only the root. From what I read at the moment root for 4.3 is quite imperfect therefore abstains from work.
And the question to you as no 4.3 what?
Want to have the opportunities offered by the root but also wants a stable system.
any suggestions
If you have an unlockable bootloader, you can unlock and install the leaked kernel + su package
