Hey guys. I am in in between these two things. Shall I buy the Sony Ericsson LiveView or shall I get the Raspberry Pi? I know these things are too different to compare but....
I will buy the raspberry pi if it supports Ubuntu. Because that's what I basically live on. If you have sources for Ubuntu for the Pi or for a new Raspberry Pi with an Arm v7 CPU and more ram, please share them here. Thanks.

Go for the Raspberry Pie. It's My personal choice, but a smart watch is something that hasn't grown alot. On the other hand the Raspberry pie has unlimited use. Personally I used it as a Linux box and then started to use it as a media player along with RaspBMC.

Thanks to both of yall.
No Ubuntu on pi. It has armv6
And I was thinking that shall I buy the Pi B2 or shall I wait for a newer version of the Pi with better specs and armv7.
Please post any sources for a new version of the Pi if you have it .

Hey guys,
i was just looking around and saw that meego has a new platform which supports tegra2 aswell. My question is, if anyone had thought about putting or the viability of meego on the optimus 2x? Since it the bootloader is not an issue here (like with the motorola atrix for instance), it shouldnt be that big of a problem or? i have an atrix myself but if we could get meego on the optimus 2x i would most probably exchange it
hers the link to the meego site: https://meego.com/downloads/releases/1.2/meego-v1.2-core-software-platform
what do you think guys?
I would like to know that why meego?.? It's really good and better than Android? I just interest and 3.1 ANDROID.

well meegoo is more like full linux, like you would have ubuntu or gentoo, but its tailored for handsets/tablets power, app and functionality wise (so you can use it as a phone), unfortunately the support for it is not really big. On the other hand Android is so to say java on top of a linux kernel, so in order to have some new app you have to do java, you cant use all the available stuff. second to that you could just connect the meego 2x over hdmi to a tv and have a full functioning linux machine so to say (with bt keyboard and mouse), thats why i was wondering, i myself have an atrix 4g, basically same board but its bootloader locked, so meego on it at least for now is out of the question, but we have webtop, which is a bit like real linux on a tv, however its some ultra crippled and old distro of ubuntu and the phone has to run two OSes (android and the ubuntu) and integrate them so that you can still use your phone as a phone, with meego its all one system, so its less resource consumable and easier to use
Me to i love meego because is an full linux os : amazing possibilitie with the hdmi cable.
Please someone could try to port meego on the O2X??
Thanks
Wasn't meego earlier ported to nexus one? That should help a lot

Don't know if it will work on Galaxy Mini or not... But, Ubuntu is said to be available for smartphone and tablets very soon.... So, just wait for some official announcements and then only we need is some device manufacturer who can make smartphone with the released versuion of Ubuntu for smartphone.
cool !!!! keen to see ubuntu in my mini !!!
if anyone tries, please post!
It's works only if your ROM build supports uloops.
Original idea was posted by same guy that jailbrake iphones.
A original quoted think by Saurik:
Code:
This does not replace Android. This also gives you access to the full plethora of programs available in Debian and let's you continue using your phone as it was intended to be: as an Android device with all the capabilities thereof.
Please note that this is not a "port": Debian already supports ARM EABI, which is the underlying architecture of Android.
http://www.saurik.com/id/10
I tested a wile a go to install but was unssuces because my ROM build dose not support uloops.
But is not realy a Linux. Is just a linux installed on a device and you can visualize via a VNC server. Is almost the some with using a VNC to remote connect via wifi to your pc ,but this time is installed on your sd card.So speed is not limited anymore by wifi or 3g connection.
Debian and Ubuntu(what is a debian version) has support for ARM processors with armel builds. They build first time armel support for PPC notebooks that had ARM v.5 and ARM v.6(not very sure). Cortex cpu.So a native support for ARM cpu-s is there from long time.
I have no idea if support ARM v.6.
There is also a KDE version but supports only ARM v.7
http://plasma-active.org/
And is come only with a HP tablet and Nvidia Tegra 2 for the moment.

First of all, my apologies if this thread belongs to Q&A - I was not sure mods.
I read about Jolla Sailfish OS being open source. Is it possible to port it on Galaxy S? I have seen no discussion about it. Sailfish OS does look promising.
Regards
DJ
I'm curious, what is the advantage of Jolla vs android?
For a short while I was excited to hear ubuntu was making its way to phones, then with a mix of going from ubuntu to arch on my desktop and the realization that ubuntu doesn't have much of an advantage over android anyway I kinda forgot about it...

Sailfish uses mer as core of its system. I once read a blogpost...see above...that they try to make the display server wayland, the new xserver replacement compatible with android graphic drivers. I think it will be possible to get the rest of the drivers also somehow working....well i want sailfish too but atm i can only wait

android has the fragmentation and lagging problem after a certain usage. also the interface of jolla is really nice , why buying a Jolla if SGS still has some fight left in its big heart?? :victory::victory::victory:

Aye Wayland is exciting, but what with all the snags it runs into (Ubuntu abandoning it, getting forked) the relatively small team will probably not complete it in a few years yet...

Sailfish OS Now Supports Android Apps Officially
Maybe this will be an added incentive along with the refreshing UI.of Sailfish os.

I'd really like to have Jolla OS on our phone to try Now that its out ...
Crazy what all is possible ...:good:

Looks okay, but there's nothing really groundbreaking about it, or anything that's a real advantage over android considering the customisation you can do with android, or am I missing something?
I had a look at a couple of demo videos for it but I can't see any great things about it that would make me want to change OS. I've already got a hidden status bar(expanded desktop), on off toggles for things I like to be able to quickly switch(quick settings), and nice looking customised home screens.
Controlling apps from their multitasking thumbnails was the only real new thing I saw, and about the only use for that is pausing music or skipping tracks (which was obviously the way it was demonstrated in their videos, because it's pretty much the only use for such a feature). With any other app you need to be able to see what you're doing, so even that is a bit pointless.
Oh, and sailfish is a silly name.

It`s not about customizations or having something special. It is new and hopefully wont start lagging after one week of heavy use
Proud owner of an ASUS TF300T stock and the "old faithful" SGS i9000 powered by AndroSlim
Anything new is welcome with an open heart. It's not about jumping ship to a new OS ... But trying them is what I am interested in the most.
I still want to user Ubuntu Touch on daily basis but it's the app ecosystem the issue for my daily use.
Is any here can port sailfish os for us
As using android on this device is very laggy even if u flash GB (2.3.x)

I was wondering, what would the benefits of using a raspberry pi over an old android for DIY hacking projects?
Also, bit more off topic, would it be possible to put a raspberry pi OS on an android? Like to use the phone as a computer board like a raspberry pi. Just a thought because they are both ARM devices with similar specs.

if its a android device with 700mhz and 512mb of ram (Not really that bad for an older phone) its probably not the best option because it has older hardwear, they might both be ARM but the pi cpu is a little newer and can be overclocked easier if you really need to, it Really is basically a cheap computer, you would be able to do most things better with the PI with more diy project options.
Now that we've got a quad-core 64 bit processor, as well as many handset connections and do-dads, are we any closer to a serviceable Android port for current releases?

Android is able to run also on Raspberry Pi 1, it is not a problem about SoC.. As we can see there are no Devs able to port Android to Raspberry Pi.

I'm actually interested in doing that. Just got my RBP3 and I will give a try and hopefully learn something.
Anyone interested to team up?
I saw a video of a guy running 5.x on Raspberry Pi 2 https://youtu.be/aSgQDhM84Ko
yeah i'm interested in teaming up. email me at [email protected] i already started to work on this.
Do you need specifically Android 5? peyo (can't post links - search for "peyo-hd" on GitHub) is doing great work with his CM repositories for RPi2 + RPi3. We also have a working image for RPi3 based on AOSP Android N Preview (again, no links... "RTAndroid" on GitHub). We also have downloadable images at our website.
Raspberry PI 3 is going to be supported officially by Google. So someone can port it for RPi2 too hopefully. Links:

Wow, that is very exciting. I am developing an application for use on the AndroidOS/JM for remote data collection, SalmonCam (https://twitter.com/yatrafish). I've had problems coping with the subtle variations in manufacturer Android builds and hardware specificities. I am hoping that we can create custom ROMS for the Pi that are less phone-ish and more technical. Thanks.

Based on the fact that the repository is still empty, I think it will take a while until we have an official version. Would be pretty cool though.

That sounds amazing. Becoming more technical is exactly the reasoning behind RTAndroid. Although we gave up on RPi2 as it was super slow.

I agree totally, there is a significant need for a modern technical OS.
WinCE/PocketPC is the primary option where ruggedized field terminals with hardware buttons are needed. See http://www.junipersys.com/ for an example of the industry standard device.

I'm glad I finally found somebody with a similar opinion. We did actually contact several manufacturers/resellers of rugged tablets, but only a small part of them were interested in Android in general. And those who were told us they are happy with the normal AOSP. I never understood how they don't have any other requirements for those devices. May be customers are now yet aware of what is possible.

Not sure whether it has to be Android 5. There are several working images with support for Android N.
