Multitasking/Force Closes? - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I've had my TouchPad running CM10 for a while now, and every so often, when I try to execute another app, either from the app drawer, or the sharing/share to... menu, etc, the app (whatever it is) will force close and come up with:
Unfortunately, [insert app/process name here] has stopped.
The only workaround I have found for this is to close everything in the recent apps dialog/multitasking menu and then try and open the force closing app/process again. Sometimes, I can have 4 processes max open at once and the 5th one I try will fail, making me close 1 of the 4 and try again in order for it to work. Other times I can only have 1 process open and it gets to be such a pain that I will have to reboot, which fixes the problem, but only for a while.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and/or has a solution for it.
Thanks!

Which gapps file are you using? If its the ones for 4.2 then thats your problem.

I am using RolandDeschain79's Lite 4.2 gapps from rootzwiki. I was using the 4.1 gapps previously but the same problem occurred.
Which gapps file do you suggest?

How many apps moved to sdcard do you have?

Alot. More than the 50 limit.
Recently I ran into the "Removed SD card" error and I think it was because of the new Gapps.
Might have to completely re-flash. :crying:

Market update unsuccessful?

I am unable to download/update new apps and existing apps via the market because i keep getting an error that says unsuccessful download. I flashed over the new 2.2.6 market into my phone and i still get the same problem. It turns out that only apps that are in the sdcard are affected, and moving them back into the phone will finally allow them to be updated with no problems.
I tried everything i could find on the internet, clearing cache/data and stuff like that, but they dont work. One method that does work is a factory reset but i dont wanna lose my stuff right now. Usually when i get this problem i'll just wait out a few hours and try again but i had this problem since last night and i also read about people who had them for over a month!
Is there any fix to this? Or is the market just broken? Running on CM6.1-N1
cmon 56 views and still no answer? I know many people have encountered this problem before. Is there any solution to this?
Probably because there's 56 threads on the same subject...

I am stuck on "App not Installed". I can't figure that out. I am on CM 6.1.0 on 2.2.1. I tried clearing cache, renaming file to update.zip and going into recovery to install from SD Card. I can't figure it out. Any ideas?
Try unmounting your SD card in settings...

Didnt work for me. :/
Alright think i fixed it. Just tried updating an app that is in SDcard and it updated fine.
Found the solution here:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...all-around-failures/page__p__24608#entry24608
1. Open Terminal Emulator on the phone
2. Type su to activate SuperUser
3. Once the $ sign turns to # type in the above code
4. That should do it
And BTW - it's smdl2tmp1.asec (with the letter L before the 2) not smd12tmp1.asec (with the number 1)

[Q] Fresh cm7 install, upgraded, and now no market.

So I managed to get CM7 on my nook fairly easily just now (latest versions for everything) however when I was up and running it asked me to upgrade my cm7 version in the notification area. I did but now I have no access to the market. I see the icon but nothing happens when I press it. If I goto manage applications, the market doesn't appear there either. Did I miss something?
The market worked previously, although it was the old school android market, not the new one. I thought that was odd, but after the cm7 update, the market doesnt open.

Thanks and ill report back.
Bingo. I got a different version of gapps and flashed that, everything works and I have the new market as well.
+1 on thanks.

You didn't really have to do that if you are running CM7 and CWR off the internal eMMC. Just put the .zip on the card, boot into CWR and install .zip from card.
But since you are up and running I guess the point is moot for you.
So I've come across a different problem. I'm trying to get netflix to work but the market tells me "Your device is not compatible with this item".
I looked around and I think I found a fix but I needed to install ES File Explorer..I went to download that and...
"Your device is not compatible with this item".
Thought maybe I could do it through Astro, but same message.
How do I get around this? Especially sicne any of the tricks I found to do it are unavailable to me because of the very same problem.
Thanks!

I redownload the GAPP's file from the CM7 Wiki and then try reflashing it. I dont know what could've happened but I would try that first. As for the file explorer issue, I would download the Dropbox app on your NC and then on your computer, search for the Root Explorer/ES APK and upload it to Dropbox on your computer and then istall it on your Nook Color. Although, I am running Nightly 202 and the entire Market is working for me with no modifications or anything. I think the fact that one of the nightly's changed the DPI to 160, either way, I still have access to the entire Market without modifications.

I had the same issue. What I did was upgrade to latest via ROM mgr pp WITHOUT checking 'load gapps' option which rebooted into latest CM7 nightly without gapps. Then rebooted into recovery, with gapps 0828 loaded on my sdcard, chose wipe cache option then loaded gapps. rebooted, had to reinit gapps but then it all worked.

You never mentioned what version of CM7 you are running. If it is older than nightly 200, install a newer nightly.

[Q]Solved - Out of space for apps on AOKP & CM10 remix

I have searched and searched for a thread and on Google for an answer but I apologize if this is a repeat I missed.
I am running the 11/14 AOKP & CM10 Remix from SGA and I keep running into this issue. I can't update or install apps because it says "Insufficient Space." I read about using ACMEinstaller3 to increase the system partition space. This has not helped and this issue keeps coming up.
I found this thread over at rootzwiki about increasing the partition up to 2048mb but this appears to be outdated and keeps failing.
Please help.
Oops forgot to post the link. Here is the same thread posted here in XDA by jcsullins if anyone is interested.

I haven't had this problem, but here's what I'd do :
Back up your user apps with titanium (I use the paid version, don't know if the free version will do this batch procedure). Run acmeuninstaller to get rid of android. Install whichever flavor of Android you want using ACMEinstaller3. There are several good how-to's here in the forum. Once you have android installed, restore your user apps with titanium. You should now be ok.
Install the latest version of the rom you use ; there has been lots of improvements. Also upgrade your recovery to jcsullins' latest cwm. You can find it in the development section.
Good luck.
Sorry to hear about that, I should have a new build uploaded in a few days which addresses a bunch of bugs

Are you installing them to your sdcard or internal memory?
Also, as was mentioned above, did you use acme uninstaller first?

That will be super great SGA!
Also I did not use acmeuninstaller first so that is very likely my problem.
I have been installing them on the internal memory only because I was running into problems using the SD Card partition with apps force closing.
And no I did not use Lucky Patcher. I have only .apk files in /system/app and /data/app. Should I?
Also I just discovered that I can't access my SD Card partition from Root Explorer. There is the /sdcard folder but that folder is empty. Yet if I reboot into recovery and mount USB storage all my files show up.
Also when I try to download something from the browser, the browser crashes. Same with goomanager.
I can't access any of the music that was on the SD Card from music apps like Google Play Music. But it is all still there when using Mount USB in CWM

So I just got home and able to attempt uninstall and still having a few problems...
I booted it with the volume up and power to see the USB logo. Then opened command prompt in the novacom.exe directory and ran 'novacom.exe boot mem:// < ACMEUninstaller".
All it does is reboot to the HP logo and stays like that. I held the center and power buttons down to make it reboot after about 20 min and it still had Moboot and booted into android like nothing happened. I tried again and its been on the HP logo for about an hour now. I read the penguins are suppose to pop up right after and do the uninstall but its done nothing but the HP logo.
Well I got things resolved. I was hoping to avoid it but I started afresh with a complete file system recreate by following this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650746
And then after ran the webOS doctor to just start over.
Somehow my partitions got corrupted and were no longer able to access each other (hence the sdcard folder being empty) probably from not uninstalling ACMEInstaller2 before using ACMEInstaller3. A complete wipe to stock was what I needed, and now its running smooth and my apps install correctly!
Thank you everyone for your help.

[Q] Gallery keeps crashing

So after rooting my phone, my gallery has been crashing every time I try to open it.
I rooted with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709701
I tried clearing the data and clearing the cache and it didn't work.
I tried going in from my computer and copying out the data and deleting it so that I can restart with a new DCIM folder, but it's written protected... =/
Ideas anyone?
How do you mean password protected? Never seen that on an Android folder. Shouldnt you just remove this lock to help your app?

Sorry didn't mean to say password protected. I misspoke and meant to say written protection. I can't delete the files or edit it, but I can copy it.
Ok So it's slightly different from flashing a phone like my galaxy S2 I9100.
On my phone I should flash a ROM and a .zip package of gapps (google apps) among which is the gallery app.
Since you don't have to flash such a package I wonder whether you came from a KK ROM.
You said you rooted it like this. So I assume you came from stock KK ROM which comes with your AT&T Note 3, which should be no fine. But you can check that though.
Further ideas;
it could be a corrupt file somewhere on your device. You're gallery app will try to show it or make a thumbnail out of something which will result in a crash. For this you can try other gallery apps (I liked quickpic) and see if they crash.
Maybe you can unprotect the folder/files simply by:
http://www.ehow.com/how_5059293_rid-write-protection-file.html
On this thread it appeared to be an old SD card so that could be the problem as well.

Lol sorry for the misunderstanding. Just to clarify, yes I flashed it with the KK ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709701
and rooted with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157
Yeah I've tried to unprotect it, but the options were grayed out. It won't let me click on them or unclick them.
When I access my DCIM folder it looks like this. The folder would contain my pictures and a bunch of other files that I don't recognize. I'm not sure whether it was from the ROM or the root.....
and with Quickpic it worked... ish~ I was able to open the app with a long loading time...and it also contains the other files that I don't recognize as well....
ugh i ended up just reformatting my SD card, i just wanted to get rid of the problem.
oh well. thanks for the help really appreciate it.

[Q] Insufficient memory

Hi all,
I have one big problem: I am getting "Insufficient Memory"-messages every time I try to update google-apps, or twitter, although I have more than 2 gb of free memory. This happens since about one week.
It's on my LG P880, running the latest cm 11 nightly. I use Link2SD to outsource some apps. It first appeared, I think, after installing Link2SD, but might also be appeared earlier for the first time. So I uninstalled that app to look whether there is a change, but nothing happened. So now it's back on my phone.
Screenshots with the most important information are attached.
I would he happy about help, because I don't want to re-install cm with the gapps (which are also the latest for 4.4.4)

The name of the .zip is: pa_gapps-stock-4.4.4-20150117-signed, Size is 410 mb.
In the same download-file are also 2 jb-gapps, but they can't be the one I installed, because the size is too small with about 80-90mb
i will suggest you to do clean install with this gapps http://forum.xda-developers.com/par...inal-post-tkruzze-regarding-pa-gapps-t3064539
Thanks, started downloading some of theese. What file shall I take: the stock or the modular, or both?

I have pico modular 99mb... Becouse you dont need all apps, and your device will run smoothly.
One last question: Do I need to totaly re-install cm and install then the gapps or just install the gapps to the existing system?
I would recoomend you to do clean install.
