Hey guys,
I found some weird problem with my Wifi connection combined with the Stamina mode and my Widgets.
Everytime I connect my XZ to some wifi my widgets (Proton Clock, BatStat, Mortplayer...) will freeze after I locked the screen and reopen it.
I don't know if it's because I got the Stamina mode on, but the weird point is, that my widgets work perfect with Stamina mode on BUT Wifi connection off. So just the connection to ANY wifi network will start this problem so my widgets will freeze. The only way to defreeze my widgets is a restart of my phone.
I really don't know what's the problem. I already got the widgets into the Stamina mode exceptions. Also the location-based wifi is in the exception list.
My phone got no root and no other problems, but it's really annoying that I can't turn on wifi without freezing my widgets on the homescreen after I locked my phone for some seconds :/
I hope you can help me. If you need some more information, please let me know.

On my advanced settings wifi was everytime active. So this option does'nt seem to be the reason of my problem with the freezing widgets after lock the screen for a while with stamina mode and wifi on.

anyone knows how to fix the problem? got it still when Stamina + Wifi is on at the same time :/
One of your widgets are outdated,2011, maybe it is causing the issue

I checked all my widgets. Proton, Bat Stat and Mortplayer got the latest version so that's not the problem :/
factory reset
or repair with PC companion
then be careful about how to configure ur setting.
i have no problem like this; even some apps that i didn't exclude them on stamina works in standby mode >> or better to say work quickly after turning on the screen (as sony mentioned for stamina mode) it means stamina mode is working properly so far.

Ive been having an issue with my WiFi randomly turning itself on. Ill turn it off to save battery, then check it 30-60 minutes later and its turned itself back on. Ive scanned through other threads and most people say that its from dock mode and to go into dock mode, then go to the settings and disable "auto connect to wifi". I dont have a dock and have never had it in dock mode, but I manually went into dock mode to check check the settings and I dont even have that option in the settings menu. I didnt seem to have the problem (or at least didnt notice it) until after I upgraded to ICS using the OTA update. Is there just a setting that Ive overlooked someplace where I can fix the problem, an app thats got permission to do it that I didnt know about, or is it just a bug thats baked into ICS? Btw, my phone is Locked, Stock, and Unrooted.
Noticed this yesterday on rumfloat4 as well

I have the same frustrating issue, locked and stock here, upgraded to ICS with the RUU. Sometimes it will stay off for several hours, sometimes not even an hour. I haven't been able to pinpoint which app is causing this.
I believe that it maybe an ICS issue.
I have done a complete factory reset on the phone three times, and network and wifi turn on at exactly midnight.
SO far spoken to HTC customer support.....lol
They advised me yo take back to retailer and let them examine it...wtf???
Regards
Paul
Check your Wi-Fi settings. Drop the drop bar and enable Wi-Fi connection then touch the bar next to the off-on switch. Touch the icon next to the home icon on the bottom of the phone and click on advanced. See the screen shots.
Hope this helps.

Too bad. I noticed mine came on the first night after I installed ICS. Took awhile to find the settings I posted. When I found the settings and clicked on the one in the picture I never noticed Wi-Fi come on on its own since.
I am curious how ICS determines "sleep". Is it phone sleep of human sleep? I also wonder if it is somewhat tied into automatic time settings. Say for instance you lose your signal during sleep, does ICS re-set the time and that triggers Wi-Fi turning on based on going setting the phone into a different time zone momentarily?
Just throwing a couple things out there in hopes it helps to solve the mystery.

I believe in later versions of GB, there was a distinct sleep setting that was separate from simply turning off the screen after a certain amount of time. As far as I can see, ICS did away with this and just sets the phone to sleep after a certain amount of time, which inherently turns off the screen.
Is this happening on new phones as well as refurbished ones? Whatever the problem is, its becoming annoying enough for me to return this phone and keep my Inspire.
Sent from my HTC Vivid
Yep, GB did have sleep time settings. That's why I was curious as to how ICS determines sleep.
Look at the permissions on HTC Sync. They're pretty intrusive as far as Wi-Fi settings. It may be worthwhile to go into each app and trying to force stopping each one one at a time that changes the Wi-Fi state at will.

Something else you can try is to go into the usage counter and clear the data from the wi-fi tab. Don't use Wi-Fi for a period of time then check if there was any usage and if there was it would be listed which apps used the data and how much they used. Some apps even allow you to access the settings from there as well.
Juice Defender or similar apps should be able to keep it off when you want it off.
The Airplane Mode also should keep WiFi turned off (as well as data) as long as you don't need to take phone calls while you sleep. Not to mention, it saves on the battery if you're not charging at night.
if anyone still interest on this , i found the solution !
on ics you go to:
settings
WLAN
Advanced
WLAN frequency band
and uncheck the auto set radio to use only 2.4 or 5gh
thats all
Hey guys, apologies if this has already been queried, I look around first and couldnt find another thread about it, just similar topics.
I recently got the Xperia Z and I've got the Stamina mode turned on. As I have unlimited data, I always leave my data turned on and I have switched on the the location based WIFI so that my phone can auto switch to WIFI when Im somewhere that I have successfully connected to before.
My question is though, to get the benefit of all this battery saving modes, in the WIFI settings where it says 'Keep on during sleep' should I turn that to 'Only when plugged in/Never' or can I leave it set as 'Always' cause of having Stamina mode on? Or does the Stamina mode only turn my mobile data on/off?
Thanks for any and all help guy.

For my device, the Wifi setting bypasses the Stamina mode...if you really want to save power...put the wifi on never setting.
Thanks chefnoob,
when you say bypass, you mean that it doesn't turn off WiFi for your device, only mobile data? Sorry to sound like such a noob. I have set it to 'Only when plugged in' as whenever its plugged in, it is charging, so I don't worry about power saving during this time.
Have you, or anyone else, come across problems with Whatsapp being a huge battery drain? Stamina mode had notified me that Whatsapp was preventing it from fully working, but it was only when i finally decided to check in my battery usage that i realized it was using as much as 75% of my battery :/. Tried force stopping it, but then It stops you from receiving messages until you decide to open the app again.
I am hoping that it gets fixed in an update soon, if not I may have to uninstall.
Thanks again. Gaz
You'll save more power by keeping your wifi always on.
I beg to differ.

mengsuan - But that would mean all the time my phone is locked it will still be connected/trying to connect to WiFi, where as if I have my WiFi set to one of the other two, like the mobile data in stamina mode, it will be temporarily turned off until unlock my phone again. Surely the latter would be more power saving, having mobile and WiFi disable themselves whenever the device goes into sleep?

Yes, meaning that even if I had the stamina mode on... If the WiFi is set to always, the WiFi still connects...
Dont quote me on this but I think stamina mode only works with data.

Yes, that is correct...
Also, if you set WiFi to "always" and you are not connected to a network, it uses up more power to seek for networks...
With your whatsapp problem, I think you have a conflict happening...
Maybe you got the whatsapp set to sync regularly while you have stamina mode on. What happens is, whatsapp tries to connect/sync but it cant due to stamina mode. Try this work around...
If you want to keep using whatsapp, add it to the exemption list in stamina mode. That way, it wont block it.
If you dont really need whatsapp, just disable it...you'll save more power using the latter.

Oh right, thanks chefnoob
In regards to the WiFi, I have set it to 'Only when plugged in' as I dont mind it being on more whilst my device is charging. When I unlock my device and I'm in range of one of my 'location based Wifi'' spots, it doesn't take very long to connect so that I can use that rather than mobile data.
As for Whatsapp, I don't really use it a huge amount, but I'm not fully decided on whether I want to uninstall yet haha, so my 'kind of' fix for now is to go on to read/reply to a message from someone, then if I expect a quick reply back leave it for a few minutes, if not I just force stop the app and check it again later on. A tedious job just to use an app, i know, but at the moment its my main method of contact with one of my friends, so I will need to find a new way before uninstalling.
Thanks anyway though, to you all, for help in answering my question and clearing it all up for me

So the thing is i recently rooted the mobile
so i flashed an older kernel then flashed the current kernel
then i had that update notification
so i though that i updated the phone before (very similar numbers .245 to .254 )
so i flashed the recent kernel of .254 then the stamina mode isnt working and the battery is being drained like hell !
so i tried now to flash the .245 kernel and still im facing the same problem and i really need Stamina mode its vital for me !

Dude seriously thanks for the hope
i bought this phone only because of stamina mode !
From what I can understand about the comments in here is the following:
- Stamina mode does not turn on properly
- Stamina does not function properly
First of all; Stamina mode only works when you have your SCREEN OFF... This has been stated many many times and only Serves as a (cheap version of) Juice Defender to prevent pointless sync on background.
Sometimes the Estimated time of Stand-by is false (or stays the same) when it has been enabled or disabled. This can be solved by removing its data via Settings > Apps > all > Eco mode controller > Force Stop > Clear data and reboot..
After reboot you need to enable it again and set it the way you want.

I think the only hope is sony's 4.3 update or custom rom
Also try uninstall google+. This made my standby battery alot better (even though battery stats show google+ wasn't the problem :/) But the drain comes back right after updating any app on Play Store. This makes no sense but I've been able to replicate it 3 times in a row. I've tried so many other things without success, completely given up now and just waiting for the new update.

when you turn on the stamina mode it changes the amount of standby hours you have
when i do turn it on nothing happens and the battery drain is tremendous
so i just wanted to ask
why i cant update the mobile from OTA or PC companion(keeps downloading for years and gets stuck at 99%)
and can i flash a stock rom and still have all my apps and data ?

Trying to fix the stamina estimate is a waste of time. I did this and it says standby time 4 days (I've even been able to get it say 9 days on one of the rare occasions my battery issues were gone)
I said to myself wow 4 days standby, good job mr.stamina. So I left my phone standby for 24 hours, checked it and down to 3%. Total screen on time of 5 minutes.
Also I don't think our problem is gtalk_conn. When I've been able to get good standby time there is still a very large amount of gtalk_conn wakelocks.
I have noticed that despite my Wifi sleep policy being set to keep on during sleep only when plugged in my WiFi is on absolutely all the time. I am sure that this is contributing to less than stellar battery life but I cannot for the life of me find an app or adb command that will simply tell me what the hell is keeping my Wifi on. I am rooted but my googling has led nowhere, so now I pose this question to XDA.
How do I figure out what is keeping my WiFi on/in general figure out what is draining my battery during standby?
HELP ME!
Thanks.
P.S. I find it hard to believe that this question has not been asked before, but all of the solutions I have found did not solve the issue for me or just did not work on my Droid turbo for whatever reason, sorry if this sounds stupid.

Oh, Okay.
WiFi is on, my question is what keeps it from turning off when I am not using the phone despite the wake policy being set to "keep on only when plugged in"
For whatever it is worth advanced calling is off and network type is set to global.
Huh...
I've been playing with my settings trying to find an answer. I changed my settings to what you have shown in the screenshots. Additionally, I've turned off some others as well, Location in one case. It appears that if Wi-Fi is on, it's always on.
When I'm at home, or when I'm somewhere I trust the Wi-Fi network, I turn it on and leave it on with it set to stay on even while the device is asleep, because it's my understanding that the Wi-Fi radio uses less battery than the cellular radio. I would think that with your settings, once the device goes to sleep, it would disconnect from Wi-Fi and connect to the cell tower, using more battery and your data plan. I have my Wi-Fi set to Always on so that when my device is asleep I still get email, etc., and I can surf or whatnot. When I leave the house, I manually turn Wi-Fi off so that it's not searching for a network, that's gotta be a bit of a battery drain. I'm not a power user and I easily get a solid two full days from my device.
Had the same issue. Not sure of a permanent fix, but cycling airplane mode is a short term fix.
