It is useful for color calibration, but not for the contrast. So the blacks will stay the same. The whites on the other hand, can be changed.

So, is there an application to make the black more black than black?

No. The screen is a TFT LCD. The light blacks are caused by the leakage of the light behind the crystals. So there is no way to get darker blacks. That's why Amoled screens have the dark blacks. It's all about technique

The only thing you can do is to set a lower backlight level. In my impression the auto settings for backlight is not working to good, especially in low ambient light conditions. Install a third party backlight controller, like Lux Pro from the market. Then you can fin tune your backlight settings for all lighting conditions.
Black will then become more "black" due to lower backlight level in most conditions.

The screen. Mine is sometimes losing contrast. Well, I can say it's contrast not brightness as the brightness level isn't changing.?
Yes there is a lot of white on display you'll notice especially if you have black icons on home screen

From what I have experienced, it only happens when in very bright areas, for example direct sunlight or offices. The phone boosts the image brightness in the darker areas for better visibility in bright situations. This is a kernel thingy, and I thought it could be a part of the X-Reality engine too, but "disabling" it in the settings doesn't disable the contrast change. Is this your experience, too?
As I know, it is something related to Qualcomm technology, known as Assertive Display. Maybe this can help you understand. https://www.qualcomm.com/news/snapd...ay-power-efficient-technology-thats-easy-eyes

I have experienced exactly what you described too!
It's the assertive display playing up. I disabled it at one point but reverted back as it works so well apart from these instances.

Is this normal for the Nexus 6 display?

My display is like this on white/grey backgrounds at low brightness?

No, it shouldn't look like that. RMA it if you can.

This is a result of the AMOLED screen. All AMOLED screens will exhibit this.

Samsung decreases contrast a lot when you put the device on low brightness to counteract it. So it *technically* still does it but their software prevents it from being very noticeable.

The contrast adjustment is a software thing, not part of the display.

so. is there a way to reduce contrast in miui 10?

Screen Uniformity.

So how's your screen uniformity on dark greys? Try opening the calculator app in night mode and change your brightness from 0 to 100 slowly. Do you notice any colour shifts?
Can confirm that! Weird stuff indeed..

No it's how amoled works. Some phones are better and some are worse. Samsung should've used pure blacks on their night mode knowing that amoleds cannot display dark greys properly.
