[Q] Root is useless? - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I decided to finally go root because i would like to use apps like gamecih or dsploit... But when I go into the apps it says something like: "No root permission was given", or, "No busybox installed", does anybody knows how to correct this problem?

Hi, Daneshm90, nice to see you here. I guess he has root, since both apps require root to run.
It's strange, because I use rootexplorer and I am able to delete the unwanted apps. however, I noted that if you boot into recovery, there are some messages saying installing default apk files (?) before the recovery screen came up.
Not sure if the recovery is restoring these apps.

[Q] Root Explorer Help Needed

Long time lerker, first time poster. I have been active on AndroidCentral, but need help from the experts in XDA.
I am running Nookie Froyo off the card. Everything is running great except the google market is absolutely TERRIBLE. It is missing tons of apps. Therefore, I was going through the directions posted in the forum...i.e. change the build.prop file
I can open Root Explorer, then can open /system; but then I can NOT mount as rw. When I hit Mount as rw the button lights up but will NOT switch it to rw. Therefore, I can not rewrite the needed file. Any help? Ideas?
Any other options to get Market to show more apps?

Does Root Explorer have Superuser permissions? If so you might try wiping data with Titanium BU or uninstalling and reinstalling RE.

If you haven't already, may try going into Superuser and forget RE. Open it back up and allow.

If I remember right, superuser is linked to busybox. Try going to Titanium BU and choose problems tab. Update busybox and see if that makes any difference. Grasping for straws here.

I assume you have tried rebooting. Other things maybe to try; run the fix permissions utility in Rom Manager (some have had new issues after this, most don't); Get the new market apk on the "themes and apps" forum if you don't have one and try to install it with root explorer from your download after a short press. Is your 2.1 stock or rooted? If rooted, pull your nookie card and try to update from 2.1. If none of those work, I would not have any other ideas. Good luck.
Had the same problem a while back. Installed busybox from the market and it seemed to fix Root Explorer. Maybe using Titanium Backup to get busybox isn't working. I'd try getting busybox straight from the market...

[Q] Rooted from Dell?? 3.2 WiFi

I have had my Dell Streak-7 for a week tomorrow and have been trying to get some of the big name software to work for me...
And Google "PLAY MOVIES" will not play as it says my system is rooted??
But I have not rooted my device }YET{.
So is 'Google' misreading the device setting or did DELL 'Pre-Root' my system and if so how can I tell, and if so how can I get Google to see my system as non-rooted?

Install the Superuser app. If you are rooted, it will give you root permission and access. You can also install apps that require root access like Titanium Backup or a firewall app. If you are rooted or not, these apps will let you know.

CF Rooting strange issue...

I can root and all is good but as soon as I use an app that requires root I cannot click anything on the prompt. It will just ignore me. I have to go into the app to actually grant it access. Apps also take forever to actually see that it requires root and the freeze.
Anyone encounter this? Thanks

Go to the play store and download/install SuperSu, reboot
the phone and it should clear up the issue you are having.
It also might be a good idea to get busybox from the play store too.
Good luck!

I'm having the exact same issue.
Supersu was installed as a system app during the root process. It disables knox just fine. When I start a root app, it takes a very long time(1minute or more) before it asks permission.
I have Titanium working fine but other apps time out before the root prompt ask for permission.
Any ideas?

Open supersu and go into it's settings then go to
"default access" and click on it so it says "grant".
Reboot the phone and all should be good.
Good luck!

No, that isn't how that works, sorry. There is no such thing as "setting root permission". Simply moving the apps to /system won't allow them to get root, because you aren't rooted.

and why other preinstalled apps can work as root?

They don't... Because root doesn't exist on stock devices.
They do run as the system user, but that isn't enough for any root apps to function alone, as root apps rely on writing to non-user writable directories, which the system user cannot do.
