Or what they would like to say... "We have a fix for your silly root so we can continue to charge for hot spotting which should be free. Also Lowell only made 7.1 million last year with stock options. How is he to feed his family on that?"
Ungrateful customers... This business would run so much smoother with out you.
Don't see any point in updating due to losing root and because there's no Devs around to even make a ROM for V9.
What about the OTA rootkeeper app? I used it on my tablet to keep root
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium
never tried it.. The OTA hasn't come to me yet but I will test what current methods out there will work. Chances are the OTA Rootkeeper is probably the same thing that was first tried when going from V7 to V8 with the local.prop file but we shall see.
yeah i backed up my root on it to see if it would, and it did. im not gunna update though without an overclocked kernal

Is there a good way to block the update?
I don't care about the V9 update and want to keep root on V8. Is there a good way to do that? I remember that freezing the OTA module was one way to do it, but I'm hoping that someone that really knows what is best will offer some advice.
V9 does break root initially but just run the exploit from djrbliss for the LG Esteem and it works fine. Maybe have to re-install certain apps like Root Explorer and SetCPU..

Does mt's zv8cmwrecovery.bat work for installingcwm after using the esteem root method?
I just froze the updater to keep from using from v7 to v8. No issues doing that, except when I went to unfreeze the app I found out that I had to purchase ROM toolbox to get that feature. But it's all good, I like to help the cause

Like the EDIT. It's true, ever since I updated to V8 using MT's tot I was able to keep root, but with binary errors and NO CWM, so so much for getting a better than stock ROM.
Has anyone experienced trouble with toggling Bluetooth when the Software Update app is frozen? Mine won't toggle on unless I thaw the app. If any of you have managed to freeze the app and keep your Bluetooth working, can you let me know what app you're using to freeze/thaw?
Same issue here, but I don't really use bluetooth.

I never figured out how...I also don't understand what the software update app has anything to do bluetooth.

I froze software update with Titanium Backup and have not yet had any BT problems. I use stereo headphones.
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium
I spoke too soon. My BT was on before freezing update and it stayed on. I just toggled it off and now won't turn on, even in settings. Will try to unfreeze update to try to repeat.
Ok, just defrosted software update, started bluetooth, refroze update, and can use bluetooth without issue.
You may have to keep BT on all the time while having update frozen.

How do you freeze the backup using TB? I forgot how lol.

Easy. Open Titanium Backup, Go to "Backup/Restore", Click to edit filters, enter Software Update then Apply. Touch the Software Update app then select Freeze. Done.
Remember to have Bluetooth running before freezing update and don't turn it off. Also, I think you need TB Pro to defrost but you may be able to freeze/defrost with something else like Rom Toolbox.
Thanks dadecamp for posting the method for freezing the OTA updater. I was able to stop it at 87% ;-)
Bluetooth has stopped toggling for me also, but since I never use it I'm OK with that.
I'm wondering if, after the new update, anyone's had a bricked device? I unrooted before since I was afraid of that, but if no one got problems so far, its safe to root once again... Besides would love to know of someone was able to avoid the update somehow. It has officially been releases a while ago (you can look into amazon's update software page)

Nope, my device was rooted when I got the ota, but I did not get bricked. I just re rooted with the qemu tool.
did u have gplay installed?
Sent from my KFTT using xda premium
Yes, and I can still install just fine from it.
One las question, did ypu have a custom launcher and no problem?? If so, Im ready to stay rooted
Sent from my KFTT using xda premium
No problems with custom launchers but the update does remove them. So you have to reinstall after the update

Not correct, I still have Nova Launcher as default after update.
Personally, anything I had placed in system was removed for me. This included Nova launcher, Swype, and the Vending.apk for gplay. I just rerooted and put them all back, and everything else I had as retained.

I just got mine, and once it was booted up, it clearly did an auto upgrade to 7.2.1. I got the QEMU root tool but the Kindle is never recognized when I plug it into the computer.
Any ideas why that's happening?
Hello. When I open my Amazon app store on my rooted kindle,
it asks me I've I want to update. If I do, will undo my root?
Thank you.
Sent from my KFTT using xda app-developers app
Yes always deny manual updates and I'm assuming you've already disabled OTA so you should be safe.
Sent from my KFTT using xda app-developers app
In my experience updating the Amazon App Store doesn't affect root at all, I usually manually update but have let it go ahead a few times from the update prompt & nothing has happened in regards to losing root, BTW I'd already ran the OTA scripts.
Anyway, if you want to you can manually update the App Store by getting the latest APK from here - http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/get/android/ref=mas_rw_ldg
Hello,
I have a 2012 nexus seven, do android 4.3 will work on it using normal android system upgrade from settings? Because it says that there isn't any update available.
And can I root the device normally afterwards?
And my data will be saved?

Over the air updates often take time to roll out. Give it time and the update will come.
Of course, you can root and flash a custom ROM based on 4.3, but unless you already have an unlocked bootloader, you will lose your data.

You'll lose root, but so long as you made no changes to the preinstalled /system portion of the ROM, the OTA should run without killing any of your data.

It can take a lot longer than that, several days or a few weeks sometimes.

If he has Superuser he can download OTA Root Keeper off Google Play to keep root when he installs the OTA or if he uses SuperSU instead, the pro (paid) version has an option to protect root.

This is why it pays to have an unlocked bootloader.
You would be running 4.3, rooted, and no loss of data if you did.

Not at this stage, it seems.
"It means preserving root with OTA Root Keeper won't be possible anymore as new rooting techniques rely on more than just a setuid su binary in /system."

Yeah you are right. They updated their app to show it at the moment does not have 4.3 support. Rooting a Nexus device is easy enough, though, that I would not worry about it.

Finally got the update this evening! Had a notification to say it'd downloaded and was ready to install, but I was in the middle of fixing a Play Store issue which meant removing and reinstating my Google account...
Of course, this meant that the notification disappeared and I'm still stuck on 4.2.2 with the manual update via 'About tablet' not working.
If it's downloaded, can I assume that it's still somewhere on my device? If not, will I possibly have to wait days or weeks to receive the update again?!
I'm not rooted by the way.

Hi. In preparation for the soon to be released kitkat update I decided to return my phone to stock in order to have a seamless update on the day of release. I first uninstalled all my mods, then I did a phone reset, and as suggested my another member I did a "full unroot" using super user. The phone no longer has root access and appears to be stock, but when I reboot it the boot screen has a lock on it. How do I reset completely to stock and get rid of this lock problem.
