So, i am not really an amateur at flashing but i have never tried flashing a MIUI. I would just like to know, what is the difference from a regular Rom and a MIUI? Also, can i flash it the same way as i would flash a regular Rom?
P.S. Also, If I am just being absent minded here please forgive me but, is porting and flashing just the same thing?

MIUI roms are similar to other ROMs and can be flashed usually in the same manner, pay attention to the install instructions for the MIUI ROM as they sometimes have different files that must be flashed. If you are S-ON I believe you will still need to flash the boot.img (Kernel) separately from the ROM. As to your second question, Porting is different from Flashing. Porting is the process of taking a ROM from a different device and adapting it to your device.

Okay. I've successfully rooted/flashed clockwork mod recovery on my phone.
I have installed many custom roms, but when I need help with something, i just don't understand most of the terms.
I know what rooting is, i know what ROMS are... but what are things like Flashing and Kernels?
Does having a higher CPU Setting make my phone drain more bat?
Don't post a useless reply that wont answer my questions.
I've done research but nothing helps, this is the forum's Q&A.

Flashing is done from recovery (ClockworkMod). If you have installed a custom ROM you know what flashing is...
The simplest answer for what kernels are is that kernels are the bridge between the hardware and the ROM/OS.
Yes, generally speaking, the more you overclock your CPU, the more battery drain you will experience.
I understand that i installed a rom, and flashed my phone, i just don't understand what flashing actually is.
Flashing is nothing but installing a bunch of software. What software... depends on whatever you are flashing - if it is a ROM: it's a bunch of stuff - OS, kernel, other software components bundled up together, that make your phone do what it is intended to do.
Flashing is rewriting the software..simple terms. When you installed a custom ROM you basically cleared the existing software and did a rewrite with the custom ROM....an overwrite.
That should clear it up for you

[Q] custom rom after applying the "easily update to 5.7.893 and keep webtop"
Hey guys new to the bionic and have already done lots of flashing and changing to it. I read the easily update thread so I reverted back to stock using the For3v3r root and applied the update and the webtop mod. After searching through the entire thread all pages no one asked or said anything about whether or not that mod will work if you flash a custom rom.
So my question is...Can I flash a custom rom after and it still work? I specifically like liberty so any help would be fantastic.
Thanks in advanced and I promise I searched and searched for this answer. Please help
I dont really know what you are asking. If you are asking if you can install a custom ROM after updating to 5.7.893, then I would say yes. If you are asking if you had a custom ROM on there first and then tried to upgrade, I would say, yes that should work too, so I guess the answer is "yes".
Thank you for your response. I guess to be more clear is if I am on the stock rom with this webtop mod applied can I go ahead and flash a custom rom without loosing the ability to have the webtop mod?

Generally any restrictions regarding mods and custom ROMs are contained in the post for the ROM or mod. The 5.7.xxx update is a system update. Think of it as firmware....the under layer. It may come in a Stock package, but if you Flash or mod in any way, you would be impacting only that stock package.....unless the OP posts in the thread.
Many people on other devices, may revert to Stock implementations....to do the OTA....then continue with other flashes like before. Things that are flashed, kernel, baseband, system, radio etc.....all work together with the hardware to deliver your Bionic experience.
That actually makes a lot of sense. I can obviously follow instructions to flash especially when the devs make one click roots and other tools to make it easy for noobs like me, but what you just said made my understanding much better.
Thanks again.
would restoring a nandroid from a 5.893 system be a bad idea?
I actually updated mine with forever root to 5.7.893 then flashed Liberty 1.0 ROM on my phone and its worked great so the answer is definitely yes.
I can't seem to find a recovery that will flash a rom for MY phone. I have the MetroPCS version/variant of the sgh-t599n and I really want to be able to flash a custom rom to my phone, but I can't seem to find anyone with (codinMetroPCS) files for it. The only reason I say that is because when I finally got CWM 6.0.3.2 downloaded and working, tried to flash beanstalk rom and it told me "THIS ROM IS FOR CODINALTE PHONES NOT CODINMETROPCS PHONES" Is there a different rom for the Metro phones? Or am I doing something wrong....Im rooted through cydiaimpactor, well, i guess technically through the pre-rooted stock rom I had to flash through Odin...BTW-Over the last two weeks I've learned that flashing a rom on a samsung (at least mine) takes a custom recovery, which needs to be flashed via Odin (something I didn't know how to do at the time)...I almost feel like Im starting to get confused with all these different programs needed to run or flash or download this or that....I'm not sure if the info is even in the correct order in my head......could someone please walk me through this? or call me! lmao...this is giving me a headache. lol....but I REALLY REALLY want to know what Im doing.....ANYONE? PLEASE??

Just flash the recovery listed in the BeanStalk thread.
There's 3 variants of the phone; T599, T599N, T599V (codinatmo, codinametropcs/codinanewcotmo, codinavid) they're pretty much the same exact phone, there's just slight differences in proprietary files - so the developers decided to unify the all of them into one (codinalte), as it's easier to build for one phone then three seperate times. The recovery's responsible for the phone; which is why the recovery plays a key-role, basically the recovery you have right now can only accept roms that are specifically 'titled' as codinametropcs, and by flashing that recovery, you'll be able to flash any of the 4.4.x roms (BeanStalk, Vanir, OmniROM, CM, AOKP, and soon pure-vanialla AOSP).
ok so....

I just flashed cwm through odin and it passed....I havn't rebooted just yet, but I know it was working before.... But just saw that the cwm I downloaded from the beanstalk thread says its for kitkat builds only. My phone is running 4.1.2..does that matter? or does that mean I just need a 4.4 rom to be flashed with it? Sorry if these are dumb questions

It's cool; it just means you can only flash 4.4 roms, so you cannot flash cm10.1, cm10.2, and pac. It doesn't matter that your phone's running 4.1.2.
Hi there, masters of rooting and stuff. Would someone be so kind to offer some guidance for flashing custom ROM? I'm on ZUI 3.5.388 and I'm sick of it, so I would like to flash either AEX or RR, but everything seems very complicated. I understand that I need to unlock bootloader and I'm pretty sure I'm familiar with that process.
But I'm not sure what to do after that - is it TWRP, do i need to install factory2vendor, how do I do that and when, do I need to install broadbend (giving that I'm using latest ZUI) and in which order do I do all that.
Thanks.

Does anyone know of a stock miui rom for the Spes that has been debloated of ads and other crap and optimised? Don't mind whether it is a recovery rom or needs to be flashed with fastboot (or miflash).
I'm currently on v13 Android 11 the global version, quite happy to remain on that.
Can someone provide a link to the rom?
Thanks.
Look here: https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/miui-13-stable-release.64441/
I have tested a lot of roms, and in the end I installed the official one and removed software through adb, today I don't have any bugs or strange problems, besides that I can use the camera in its entirety. I got bored with the custom ones, some games don't run, others are terrible and at the moment there is no fix for this.

Ditto, I always appreciate the custom roms and appreciate the efforts developers go to because there are a lot on here that do nothing but complain about custom roms, however I think I'd prefer a stable daily driver. There is no sign of the kernel source being released which would be a big help for the devs.
I've just finished flashing the stock rom and will go about debloating. There are a number of "safe to remove" lists for miui roms so I will get to work.
Thanks the replies guys.

Hi, may I ask how did you flashed stock ROM? I recently tried to flash 13.0.5 A12 on mine through TWRP, it probably refuses to boot because after the ROM has finished flashing I flashed TWRP next. I also know the fastboot + miflash method but everytime I do it, it gives me anti rollback check error
I downloaded the miui.eu rom which is debloated and allegedly more optimised. I went back A11 the same as I had before I unlocked my bootloader. I flashed the fastboot version and used the bat script inside the zip to flash it.

Ok, that's strange, it shouldn't give an antirollback error when you have the same version of android and miui.
Try again with myflash
But surely when flashing the official rom by twrp you damaged something, if I remember correctly the twrp of spes does not have support for flashing a stock rom, even less if it goes as an update.
Anyway, if you want to make your rom boot, try taking the boot.img out of the fastboot rom and flashing that boot.img to your phone and see if it boots.

My first guess was that it was because at that time I was on an Android 13-based custom ROM (Pixel Experience Plus 13 and CrDroid 9.0), but I was proven wrong after I flashed PE+12 shortly before trying MiFlash. Because it gave me the same error (Anti-rollback check)
Oh, I actually tried the flash-stock-ROM-via-TWRP method after I tried MiFlash method, so I doubt that's the issue. But all I can say is a few days ago I flashed 13.0.5 A12 firmware (latest at the time of writing), so could that be that issue?
I might wanna try what you said, thanks for the suggestion. But for now, I'm on EU and may stay for a few months

Always that I need as a base a stock ROM flashed, I "simply" use the fastboot commands that are inside the ROM, I open my ADB/fastboot CMD/terminal, and drag and drop the flash_all.bat file while in Windows or the flash_all.sh file while on Linux. This method allows to me, to can follow the process while the scripts are running, and search for issues (if there are some)
As per the TWRP flashing the stock ROM, it worked fine too. You just need to flash the ROM, then boot to recovery once, you'll find the stock one, then format data from it, then you are ready, either to go straight to system, or if you prefer have TWRP (or any custom recovery), go to fastboot and follow the method to boot to, and then flash it permanently to the ramdisk.
