i say again, MAYBE this idea will work
I've done this on my own 4X and it's still working now, no bootloop; as long as you follows my simple guide below.
Antutu: 12930 (doesn't neccesary mean anything) - Me
Real Racing 3 personal experience: Alot better. (All 4 cores fired up) - Me
Code:
I remember in the thread back in [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837924"]August 2012[/URL] that there's this fix to move NvCPLsv.apk from system/bin to system/app
to improve battery life.
then people are saying that is some profile and power management stuff for Tegra 3.
and some people are experiencing or expecting lag or improvement.
But the thing was shifting the apk infact doesn't do anything because there wasn't any .odex
Now that in V20B HK there's this apk in its 'rightful' location and that THERE's ODEX now,
i thought perhaps its exactly why we are having lag now.
because some poorly tweaked settings in nvcplsv.apk?
Remove gaming lag in V20B, Unleash Tegra 3 on LG Optimus 4X.
1. To do so, go to system/app
2. Look for NvCPLSV.apk and its NvCPLSV.odex
3. Rename them to NvCPLSV.apk.BAK
NvCPLSV.odex.BAK
4. You are done for this folder,
now go to data/dalvik-cache
5. Clear dalvik cache
6. Turn off phone
7. Boot into stock recovery (Hold Vol - and power button until you see the recovery screen)
8. Clear cache partition and nv partition, reboot phone
9. You are done, play some game.
NOTES
Don't be surprised if you don't see all 4 cores fired up all the time. Probably its because the load didn't require anything more.
But if the game was laggy and still receives 1 core treatment, try other game (developer error maybe). If still the same, then this trick isn't working.
Side effect may include increased battery consumption
To undo return step 3 to normal state, and proceed down the steps.
Im not a dev. This trick was pure logical assumptions. For assistance in CWM or other more-than-stock issue SOMEONE ELSE PLEASE HELP

i wiped regular & dalvik cache, tried NFS, still mostly uses one core, and has lag when running into a roadblock.

I have no idea dealing with CWM LOL
Maybe NFS at certain point of time doesn't require anything more than 1 core. idk.
me too on Real Racing 3 most of the time dont get more than 1 core. but when the time comes i got all 4 at 100%
How to measure CPUs and battery hot exactly? I think we have to be very carefully and we need to test everything on V10H or V20A.
EDIT: I still believe LG can step up somehow. If Nexus 7 can run Real Racing 3 smooth, why O4X can not? CPU is even faster (don't know about GPU MHz) than in Nexus 7.
cpu's you can track with overlay programs like perfmon, as for battery, i'm not sure which, but there are programs that measure battery temperature for sure.

Re: [FIX] V20B Gaming Lag, Unleash Tegra 3 (MAYBE, Tested)
Dead trigger seems a little smoother, played 2 rounds in arena and the cores seem to fire up when a new wave starts. Some micro stutters but more playable than before. Seems hit & miss really, I think tegra is still being conservative with multi core use. If theres a governer for firing up the cores we need to modify that somehow

Should it also work with CWM?
Edit: I did with CWM, without nv partion wipe (because I didn't find!), will try now
Re: [FIX] V20B Gaming Lag, Unleash Tegra 3 (MAYBE, Tested)
Shadowgun was just the server, it just lagged on me. Still not paying for premium from what I've found this does very little after playing games for longer I found games going back to one core, sadly I think I was placeboed. Theres a lot of tegra stuff in the /d folder, I wpuld bet that if therea a cure thats where to find it.

Just tried this and ran Antutu and Quadrant.
Quadrant was 1400 points lower (4010 vs 5442) and Antutu was about 3000 points lower (10000 vs 13000), so this app IMO helps with performance.
after reinstating it, my scores went back to normal.
it was worth a shot though. cheers op

You're welcome, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39867039 seems the problem is the cpu up threshold is too high, meaning by the time it ramps up its already overloaded and caused some lags. By lowering this I get better multi core, this time I actually feel a significant reduction of frame dipping

Mm, wondered about that. As far as I know the access time between the cores on the bus is supposed to be extremely quick. But maybe that changes when the cores are about to idle, or it conflicts with some garbage collection taking place when they go down..? So that if all cores are active, the direct addressing to the "video ram" these apps tend to use works. But when one or two cores go up and down, the response on the calls drop? And maybe drop irregularly depending on how many processes need to unwind...? Could explain why some people seem to get crazy lag, and others don't really see it.

Hello Folks,
I`ve been on an infinite quest for having a lagless/slowness free device since I got it. In the middle of it I found out about the Chainfire 3D that could maybe help, but I also found out it`s quite risky and I haven`t found anyone who has tried it on our device yet.
Do you know of anyone who has entered in this risky path and succeeded?
I actually only want a lagless phone when it comes to gaming. I know that there are many threads about it, but believe me, I`ve read them all and all of them give only advices that helps, but don`t resolve the problem.
Don`t come with the: "the game is not yet optimized for Tegra 3", because in some cases like Shadowgun THD, the game lags anyway.
My 4X HD out of the box was terrible in gaming. Now with 10E, root access and governor/clock manipulation it's got much better, but STILL lags once in a while playing simple games like Jetpack Joyride or even Angry Birds! And LOTS of problems if you scale up to heavy games! That`s very frustrating!! :crying:
Do you guys have any formula or a way you`ve found to play games well?? If you do, please help! I`ve heard about the new updates but some people said it doesn`t really matter so, I`d rather wait for an update in my country.
Thank you!! and sorry if this is not the right place for it and for the long post!
In most phones it improves it. Not sure in the 4x because I didn't try it yet. Don't feel the desire on bricking my phone im case it won't work.

Good point, I played Shadowgun THD on Galaxy 2 and it rocks (gpu OC to 400mhz).
Thing that should help us is update o CPU-GPU governor and latest GPU drivers. Let´s hope they will come with JB or after unloced bootloader we will have great custom kernel...
I've installed on my O4X, the app Chainfire.the extra drivers. It works fine and I didn't have any weird crashes, hang-ups nor restarts. I didn't notice any improvements however.
The advice I have to offer, is to get an app like SetCPU, create a profile that will launch when you play a game, and set the governor to performance mode and lock the highest frequencies, from 1.2 to 1.5 GHz. Then it will run great. At least it does on me. From the games I've played so far, including Galaxy on Fire 2 THD, History Channel's Great Medieval Battles, NFS Most Wanted, Angry Birds Star Wars HD, Zombie Driver THD, RiptideGp, Beat Hazard Ultra, Canabalt HD,Dragon Slayer, when I start them with this profile, I don't get any lags. Remember also, that a game needs RAM memory to run fluidly. Run a utility to clear on RAM before starting a gaming session (just like a computer), or go to developper options and limit the number of background processes.
That's what I told someone too. 1500 MHz performance when playing games and then there is no issue.
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
than I have a problem, cuz I set the governor to performance - min 1500 and it reduces lag A LOT, but not all the time. I cut the ram use too.
What update are you using? Or maybe I`m missing something...
Are you sure chainfire didn`t change anything? I think I`ll give it a try!
Thanks for you help!! :cyclops:

I used Chainfire on ICS with no problem, yet there was no improvements in gaming.
Tried to use it on JB V20A and it bricked my phone! Nothing a reflash couldn`t fix it, but if you`re on JB, don`t try it.

Since i noticed lags in games i tried to figure out whats wrong with my phone, and finally found app named Quick System Info PRO (its free) and there is an option "live monitor" which shows cpu freq and usage per every core in on screen widget, which is staint over most content on screen including games. I've played some titles like GTA3, NFS most wanted, shadowgun etc. and every single game uses ony one core scaling usualy between 1000-1500 MHz with approx. 70-100% usage. I've tried same thing on my nexus 7 (android 4.2.2) and everything runs very fast and it uses 2-3 cores scaled around 600-1000 MHz with 20-40% usage.
There is no problem in chrome, antutu they're using more cores, this happens only in games (every title I've played have the same issue even THD titles)
so whats the matter? is it ICS fault? Do you have the same issue? is there any way to fix it or will JB updade fix it?
I'm using stock LG-P880-V10h-NOV-19-2012 firmware, phone is rooted.
I've noticed exactly the same thing as you, I've checked with the "hidden code" to check for core speeds
really strange i wish someone to fix this bug is really disappointed quad core 1gb ram tegra 3 and lag all games
+ tegra games.... lets think possitive...
Is there any way to fix it? hope JB will solve everything
Something I saw in the one x forum which I will try when I get home is limiting the max frequency to 1ghz, as it won't use all 4 cores any higher than this because of overheat. More likely the cause is bad optimization

Yes, what you say is somewhat true. When the core of the phone hits 40 degrees celsius, it clocks at a lower speed and that's when you see the "slow charging" even though you plug it in a wall socket.

What I read was 1500mhz: 1 core, 1100-1400: 2 to 3 cores and >1000mhz: 4 cores. I know of the temperature setting also. Tested this with NFS MW, I noticed no improvements but neither did it perform any worse which is interesting for a game that's not the smoothest

Yep its mostly devs fault, however they should be using it anyway because they are compatible with galaxy s3? Could it be possible to hack it so it uses the s3 configuration and achieve multiple for usage, or is it impossible across different chipsets? I don't get it, I've seen that most games we complain about do not have these issues on the HTC one x
Sent from my LG-P880
You can modify build.prop to look like that of a galaxy s3 (edit model, manufacturer etc..), might trigger it, but that might create problems with other apps (including play store)
I think it's just bad programming since there are functions in android java that will allow you to get the number of cores, so then.. you can enable multi threading... not sure why they would use device detection or whatever.. I mean if a device got 4 cpus, it got 4 cpus! doesnt have to be a bloody s3
I think it's ICS 4.0.3 fault, like I said before everything runs smooth on Nexus 7 which have 4.2.2 and notice that one X already have 4.1.2.
Suprising fact I've found on polish wikipedia is improvements list of 4.1.2 and line that says:
"optymalizacja wydajności w grach dla procesorów NVidia Tegra 3 i kart graficznych NVidia GeForce ULP"
which means: "In-game performance optimalisation for NVidia Tegra 3 proccessors and NVidia GeForce ULP graphics cards"
Hope thats true

Well like you say they run fine on other hardware, HD games must have multi threading support for these and the galaxy s3, so the question is why aren't they using it for ours? Must be the software, even forcing all cores online does nothing to help.

If it uses handset detection, and detects HOX and it ticks it as supported, then its going to work because it will activate multithreading.. but probably it doesnt detect the lg 4x as supported... because IMO, it uses the wrong detection (device based) to determine mutithreading.

Its not exactly our phones fault that most games using 1 core, in-fact almost all apps runs using 1 core they are not yet optimized to use multi-core,in our case its little developers fault and little ICS fault.
Also I am still confused why you people complain about lags? This device is very smooth and I play HD games on my (50 inch full HD) TV with my PS3 bluetooth controller(specially bought for gaming on 4X) and it runs just fine. I play Shadow Gun deadzone online with no lags(even with tiny lag - single frame skip means I am dead)...etc NFS MW runs fine too rarely it runs little slow in first few seconds of race but later it becomes fine.
I had issues with heat and battery drain problem to overcome this I have underclock my device to 4cores 1.2ghz (Governor - onthedemand) and even after underclocking it runs all my games fine. I have read (never tested) for gaming governor - Performance is i deal but battery drains faster.
However similar complains were there in HTC OneX as well until it gets updated to JB.
So I assume this issue should get resolved with JB update.

the game obviously lags on the 4x . unfortunetly, no developer cares about the 4X, and i think we are gonna have big trouble with future games too. Its the same with the other games; only one core always active, from 700 (??) to 1500Mhz... a shame. One X does lag like the 4X as i've seen at youtube

Doing this and changing the governor to performance makes the game much smoother.
Try LG Gearbox. Set "Active Cores" to 1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1854008
It will run without any lags but with low graphic details (which can not be noticed really)
Be aware that, setting active cores other than 4 with LG Gearbox, sometimes makes your phone freeze or restart.

this method worked fine for me. Originaly, the game setups our device on high or mid. I changed to low and now its not lagging and the graphics are still cool.
I didn't change any detail settings.I used No frill cpu to set the cpu to performance and the game runs fine.
I also tried "No frills cpu" with the "performance" option and saw that the game can be played without any problems.

yes but i doesnt mean games will be better on JB. the new kernel might improve performance, bujt far away from making it a super phone.
AW: Real Racing 3
Changed Graphic Settings and it's really good! No more lags!
The game just isn't fully optimized for tegra3.

1x1.5GHz or 4x1.4GHz
you have to be aware that the tegra 3 will give the 1.5GHz only for 1 core, the max CPU speed for 4 cores is 1.4GHz.
so if a game is optimized for 4 cores, it will run much faster on 1.4GHz.
you should keep that in mind when you lock the CPU speed at 1,5GHz
lg have always this problem great hardware fail performance
I want to know that how can I find that my cpu & gpu processors are working well ?
you know in some games I have few problems , few delays and I'm confused.
for example for "Subway Surf" I think there must be no delay or lag !
And the other question , what's your suggestion for an excellent Task Manager ?
I have tried some and now I have GO on my phone but I'm so willing to know the better one !
I sometimes got lagg on subway surf
And it only happens on stock rom tho
Its gone for me now on cm10.1
Try benchmarking apps if u really want check
Quadrant standart
Antutu
Are 2 good ones

Everything is probably ok. Our phone isn`t very good for games (stock) and JB became for slow for some.
Look for Gaming threads but, I can tell you this:
Root
Install Tegra Overclock (not tegrak) and set GPU Clock to 380 (more stable for me) or 416 for 3D and 2D. In Core Count, tick Force selected number of CPUs Online ONLY WHEN YOU WANT TO PLAY.
Maybe play with the thermal throttle.
Look for other kernels that support higher GPU clock. (don`t really recommend).
This is me, don`t know other users opinion:
Install Autokiller Memory Optmizer and set it to Extreme. This will consume more battery (my testing) but eliminates system UI lag.
This should do it.
Oh, of course, your Antutu Benchmark should result around 13k, but dont worry if you get 12k, it varies quite a bit.
I used LG boost app from development thread every time I wanna play

Greetings,
This driver is obtained from Qualcomm's 07 Aug 14 drivers for "Qualcomm Adreno 3xx GPU on Nexus 4, 5 & 7 devices running Google Android 4.4.4 KitKat".
All credits go to the folks at Qualcomm for making the developer version of these lib files available for us to play with.
This is for testing purposes only. Please don't flash without backing up first and then start screaming if something happens to your phone!
The package only contains files for Adreno 300 and 330. I cooked the packaged to be flashable on our SM-G900T or any SM-G900 with the Adreno 330 chipset.
I'm on a "XtreStoLite_G900T_ROM_v1.3_UVU1BNG3" ROM, which is a super clean/slim version of the stock rom. This is also Android 4.4.2, my AnTuTu benchmark results dropped from 37400 to 35800 after flashing this package.
I'm requesting someone with a KitKat 4.4.4 ROM to test this and report back their before and after benchmarks.
I appreciate your feedback,
Hmm, interesting.. I'm only on 4.4.2 or I would help out..
Turned out the 3D performance on antutu version 5 with this driver puts our phone one head and shoulder above everyone else!

And this means....... I'm sorry but I don't understand the purpose... Is this supposed to make Tw snappier?
Thanks in advance!
It is updating the video (graphics) drivers. It probably improves the touchWiz performance as well (don't have evidence to support this), but what i noticed was a huge performace increase in the 3D graphics score. This will make games run alot smooter and more efficiently.
To clarify, this file resembles how your Mac/PC has a video card with say NViDIA or ATi video cards and they have their own driver releases. Our phones graphic chipset is designed by Qualcomm and it gets its own drivers as well. Hope I answered your question, and didn't make it worse!

In order to get any real "TouchWiz/Nova/Apex/etc" performance increase from it you'd have to flash this, then venture into Developer's Options and enable Force GPU rendering and Disable Hardware Overlays. And even then our device is so performance driven that you likely would likely not even realize the difference other than giving the CPU a break for a few cycles and possibly seeing a battery life increase depending on whether the CPU or GPU pulls more juice. These drivers are largely made to increase the 3D performance of your device when gaming and while it wasn't meant for us I'm glad to see someone took the time to let us benefit from it.
I'm going to flash it on an NG4 (4.4.2) release and see how it holds up to GPU rendering no hardware overlays. I don't game so if you want an objective test on that someone will have to pick up my slack. I'll report back when I know if it truly impacts it.
Tried flashing the update and ran into a couple random fcs for a few apps. Nothing device-breaking or anything, but I also didn't notice any real difference in performance or framerate in games. But I do appreciate you posting this, I'm always up for trying a little experimentation on my device to find something new. Thanks man.

Don't worry, I didn't forget about you. It takes a few days to really put it through its paces. But here is what you want to know: It works in 4.4.2 Touchwiz (Alliance Rom B4 for me)
Performance Increase in ROM function and control with "Turn Off Hardware Overlays" and Force GPU Rendering: Check
So I tested this by underclocking my CPU to the point where lag was perceivable in things likes app launching, keyboard typing, app draw opening, etc. I dropped it down to about 1200Mhz on all cores and then disabled HW Overlays. It was night and day. After the GPU took over rendering my CPU clock speed hardly moved all of the items previously lagging went right back to being fluid.
So does it help with Rendering in the ROMs? Yes, it definitely can.
The other concern people have is with battery life that goes with GPU rendering and the claims are that the GPU uses more power than the GPU. In my preliminary testing, what I noticed was lower overall CPU temps while Hardware Overlays was off, lower CPU clock speeds since it didn't need to render apps, and a small decrease in battery life.
In the power draw category I need more time with BetterBatteryStats and I need to adjust some variables. I want to underclock the GPU to the point of perceivable lag (if that is possible) and then I want to adjust the governor with KTweaker and see if I can't get better battery life. I will simultaneously lower CPU speeds to keep my core temperatures down and keep the battery cool. If these things are successful and battery life is interchangeable between the two, I may run the GPU full time for rendering the ROM. Keep in mind though, only custom kernels allow this kind of tweaking. If you use a stock ROM you are stuck with CPU and GPU clock speeds where they are so battery will drain faster.
Give me about a week to test my theory on this and see if I can find an equilibrium for CPU and GPU temperature and speed. I'll post the profile I used with KTweaker when I have my results. Until then, if you want to help and find your own settings and post them here along with battery life that would be awesome.
Edit: For what it is worth, to test application launch speeds and UI fluidity with the GPU I completely turned off system animations, I set Nova Launcher Animations Speed to Faster than light and scroll speed to "Fast" (personal preference). I got the same, or better response time using the GPU to render the UI.

I haven't tried it on CM yet, I'm about to flash the 09/04 build of CM11 by Albinoman with KT's kernel. But I won't flash these drivers prior to running the build 24 hours or so to make sure there aren't bugs that existed before flashing the files. So, if you've been running CM for awhile and want to test this build just nandroid, flash, and report any issues.

Ooo that sounds like a killer combo cm + kt kernel + adreno update = project slip n slide lol nah but I'm really curious of what results you might get [emoji4]
And once I flash this, can I go back or will it erase the update once I flash a different rom?
Thanks in advance!!

I'll keep you posted. I wasn't impressed overall with it's performance in Touchwiz on battery life with the CPU underclocked, so I am branching out to a more AOSP-like build. I'll keep you posted to what I find out.

This can't be right because right now I haven't flashed the driver update and look at My score
Now imagine that's without kt kernel just stock kernel, I'm on xtralite 3.5a t-mobile, so what if I flashed the kt kernel AAAAND the adreno update.... would my phone explode?!?!
I'm thinking twice now whether I should flash thisor not. ..
You have a good point. I think antutu v5 also rescaled their scoring system. Anyway, post your new score if you decided you want to give it a shot.

This maybe off topic, but does this works on other devices like Z2 or HTC M8 using the same GPU?
43718 before
43292 after
All I did was reboot into recovery, flash the ZIP and then run the test, same clock speed etc..

You guys make me sad. Benchmarks are not now, nor will they ever be, an acceptable means for telling you how capable your device is. Your scores in AnTuTu are about as capable of telling you your phone's speed as your ESN is at telling people who your phone belongs to. It is just arbitrary numbers that will fluctuate up and down based on the slightest inconsistencies.
Drivers, just like in Windows/Linux/Mac, are meant to optimize the performance of your hardware. That's it. This driver likely optimizes the GPU cycles to make it more efficient and lower heat output while performing better in games. You know why hardware review sites start out with benchmarks saying what it can do in a perfect world but still ends the review by telling you it gets 75 FPS in Borderlands 2? They do that because while synthetic tests are nice, what would be the point if our games don't play better? It is the same concept here.
I'm begging you, uninstall AnTuTu, re-install your favorite mobile game and just base performance off of whether it plays better or not.
Side Note: Drivers didn't appear to do anything in AOSP CM11 when I gave it a try. Sorry I am so late on reporting in, college takes up a lot of my time. Also, using the GPU to draw your applications does eat more battery whether you use these drivers or not. So there is no marked improvement from lowering CPU speed and using GPU only to render.

I figured since the OP stated he got less points in Antutu, I would go ahead and use the same app and test to compare...
F*ck me right?
Regardless, I don't notice anything different either, my stats are in the sig.
