Just got a mail from seidio, saying that obex case would prevent access to s pen and make it uncomfortable to use, so they won't be making such a case. They instead suggest to go for the convert case, rugged although not waterproof (which, if you ask me, is like giving bananas to someone asking for apples).
I'm really sad and disappointed about this choice, since they put a poll on their site for next obex case and note 2 was leading the chart by many many votes. I see their clear point in this decision, though I wouldn't mind having to open a separate hatch to access my s pen, just like you need to do with other ports, and I would cope with reduce sensibility in exchange for waterproof protection.
That said, I am asking you fellas: is there any comparable case for note 2?
Maybe otterbox is considering an armor case?
Please don't tell me to look for the griffin survivor knock off case that I have seen in many threads here : I am looking for something with similar ruggedness but better look and reduced bulkiness and possibly waterproof. Obex seemed the perfect choice to me: indestructible, slim, good looking!
Cheers to everyone!

I asked otter about the Armor case for our phone and they responded that they aren't going to make that type of case for the note 2.

Let me ping them. I know the decision is probably finalized, but perhaps they might listen to one more opinion... The whole point of waterproof case is to use it in extreme environment where NOBODY going to pull out their s-pen, unless you are planning to use it as a weapon lol!!! The problem with a hatch/port cover - in order to be waterproof you have to meet specific military standards of being submerged under the water. Having a flip port cover even with tightest fit won't guarantee it because of the water pressure. But for sure, that OBEX case looks like it can take some serious beating!

Official reply from Seidio:
"Unfortunately, we did announce late last month that we will not be making OBEX for the Galaxy Note 2. We wish we could fulfill our customers’ requests however; the OBEX is designed to be a waterproof everyday case and obstructing the S-pen would take away from the functionality of the Note 2."

I got the same answer, plus something about "look at our other products we make"
Well it looks like we and seidio have different point of views, moreover they have to look to businesses and incomes, sells and so on, so I can understand that it might not be worth the effort for them...
Anything similar we might take into account? Any news about an otterbox armor? Thought I read somewhere they won't be making it also... Really bad luck for us note 2 users!!

Long shot but there has been a post on their Facebook page asking for "other" reasons they wouldnt put this into production. If we can all support that post, perhaps they will see we would like to purchase.
If not, anyvother smaller suppliers that specialise in aterproof casing we can bang on the doors of?

With a resources of small supplier, it will take them at least 2-3 months to design, to test the prototype, to iron-out fixes, to get all the certifications (it has to be tested to military standards), and to get manufacturing in China up and running. Note 2 is already 8+ months old phone at the end of it's cycle. Do you think anybody even cares about it? It's a sad reality.
Resurrecting an old thread, I know, but I had to laugh when I saw that Seidio released an Obex case for the Note 3...which....uh....also had a S-Pen.... Oops.
I've since settled for a waterproof bag type "case" to take my Note 2 fishing. I participate in online catch, photo, & release tournaments and they use a phone app for submitting photos out on the water.
The only thing that sucks is I can't get to my S-Pen... Haha Kidding!

Just curious if there has been any information released about a snap-tight case that would protect against spills/drops in water, dust-proof and possibility drop/shock proof. I know that the odds of a case like this being produced depends on how many of the devices are sold along with customer request.
So are there any companies out there that are saying they will produce one? Or is it time to start sending mass emails to request them to make it? Thanks!

Is this even possible with an S-Pen? We may not get anything water proof, but something drop/shock proof is coming in the form of Otterbox cases. You can find those here: http://www.otterbox.com/samsung-galaxy-note-2-cases/samsung-galaxy-note-2-cases,default,sc.html

Well, I guess that you wouldn't be able to take the S-Pen out with a snap-on water-proof case. That's more or less a given.if you want it to be water-proof.
Yeah, I've been eyeing up the Otterboxes as usual which will help out in case of drops.
They could make cap on the s pen part like the one the iphone one has for the charging port which we could remove take the pen out and close it back up and such that way it would be sealed tight and still functional. I for one would really love a lifeproof for the note to come out.
LifeProof will never come out with a case in the galaxy note series due to the fact that the stylus is a major feature in the line. If they make one, losing the stylus feature kinda defeats the purpose of getting phablet like this. I can see them making one for the galaxy s3.
Well there are many ways to seal the device up without taking away the functionality of the stylus they would just need to really think of the best one. I mean seriously a cap that works like the port covers on most cases should work fine and keep it sealed but yeah i doubt they will make anything and yeah i know that the S pen is pretty much the point of buying a Note.
That would be awesome
Having paid full price for this thing I would love to get a waterproof case for it. I was thinking today about what I'd want in a rugged case. Since we have bluetooth/wifi I only have to plug it in to charge it, so some wireless charging solution would close off that port, as well as the headphone port. They could make another place to put the pen, triggering the internal sensor might be tricky. For now you can go to an outdoor store and get a waterproof pouch and put it in there when needed, but realistically it does rain sometimes so not needed to do that would be great.

Yep, not to mention it's only $20... A real shovk/water proof case will most certainly cost more than that.
For everyone else you can forget the speculation, there have been many of us contacting various companies about making such a case and the answer is invariably NO.

When I had my Note 1 I looked for hours for a case, couldn't find one I liked just just ordered a cheap crappy one until I could find one I liked, in the end I found an okay one, but was still cheap and just rolled with that. But it wasn't what I really wanted. Ending up selling the phone a few months later, not based on the case.
Today I have ordered my Note 2, and the same case problem has arisen. I've spent a good 2 hours watching reviews, searching the web and I haven't found anything I like. The one in this thread is okay: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030149 But link was to US Ebay and auction has ended. I searched elsewhere but cannot find. But still would be like my Note 1, kinda cheap and just go with it.
But it's still not good enough. With the iPhone that I currently use, although not perfect, there are a number of top cases and is a little easier to pick a case. So my question is, is a case really needed? I'm not clumsy and rarely drop my phone, but always buy a case just incase. But looking at the Note 2 cases, I just cannot find one that suits my needs. Low profile, but good overall protection. Those otterbox cases are huge, plus the phone is huge itself.
I've looked through the "what case do you use" thread and I didn't see a single one I wanted to get.
A phone that big, you definitely need a case, unless you have hands like André the Giant.
You can't tell me that you perused the Note 2 accessories forum and couldn't find something that would suffice? I come across good TPU stuff on eBay all the time. Look harder, they are there.
Scott from DBA Cases is selling that case on his website if you are interested in getting that one. He has about 20 left. I dropped my phone once and it cracked the back cover, so I'm always going to be rolling with a case from now on.
I think that choice is up to you, but based on what you said I think you answered your own question. I'm in the same boat right now tho, except I know I atleast want some protection for the chrome trim. There are atleast 5 iphone cases Ive seen and would have bought if they made them for the note 2

Dba cases sells em. Plus the owner can help you if u have any concerns.
If you want an awesome case (I have it for my S3, so I'm sure on the Note 2 it'll be huge), check out Urban Armor Gear. Their cases are awesome. Cases for the Note 2 are about to come out.

UK shipping cost is the same price as the case
Short answer, NO, you don't "need" a case. Whether you want one is up to you. All my phones run naked through the wilderness, and I have yet to have any break in the rare drop I've had. IMO It's a bit of insurance, and like extended warranties that stores, car dealers etc are always pushing I quit buying them years ago, and figure the money I've saved on all those little insurance policies will more than pay for whatever it is I have that may break, and I'll just buy a new one. Of course I am am in a stable financial position to be able to do that and if everything I own broke at once I would have issues, but that's my thoughts.

I feel ya its the same shipped to canada. Contact scott for a coupon or maybe buy tje jlg screen protector with the case to offset the shipping cost.
Just dropped my brand new Note 2 in the parking lot and cracked/spidered the entire screen. $200 through insurance for a replacement.
So yes, a case is worth it.
Normally I forgo the case. This is the first phone that I have one for. The thing is the chassis is made with %10 butter. It's gotta be the slickest phone I've ever held. If I could find a backplate that's made with that hard rubbery material and a kickstand I'd probably go with that.
I ordered that case from DBA Cases, thanks for the info or damages. Not sure it will fully protect even from a drop, but it's worth a go. Still a little disappointed by the lack of really good cases though. There doesn't seem to be that in the middle perfect spot like some other phones.
I have never dropped my phone. I can also say that a big part is due to the case. My cases usually add some grip. Just in case I ever drop my phone, the case is already on there. I never run naked more than the 20 seconds it takes me to take it off, clean off my phone for dust or debris, and then put on another case.
END OF STORY!
Don't be a fool, wrap your... Phone...
Once again, Urban Armor Gear is probably the best case you can get for the S3 and Note 2.
You need food water and shelter. You dont need a case.
It is a good idea though
swyped all these spelling errors from my galaxy note 2
It only takes one good drop and your screen could crack. The choice is based on the amount of risk you are willing to take (and if you have insurance)
God forbid you do actually drop it you'll kick yourself for not buying one....especially after writing a post about it!

Depends. A thin case won't do anything to protect against drops. It's more for scratch protection and for 99.9% of the people out there, it's just for style/fashion.
It depends. I've never used a case. I've had cell phones for more than a decade and I've never broken one.
You can't make it totally impossible to break your phone. But if you're careful enough, breaking a phone will be such a rare event that it will cost you less than all the years of buying cases would have cost you to try to prevent the rare breakage. And cases don't always prevent breakage anyway.
Beyond the matter of protection, some people prefer the aesthetics of cases, while others have the opposite preference. So it's really up to you.

I assume you have looked at Mobile Fun Galaxy Note 2 cases. They have about the best selection in the UK. I went for one of the Zenus cases. I have liked them since I first had one on my original Galaxy Tab. I like the one I have as it is quite low profile but protects nearly all parts of the Note. The only thing i don't like is that they have used a press stud for the closure rather than the magnetic clasp they used on my Galaxy Tab case.

EXACTLY what I say all the bloody time! The only thing I miss about the iPhony device is the sheer number of quality cases and accessories for it.
You know what, after having purchased multiple cases for all the phones I have used; GS3, GN2, GS2, GNex, N4 yada yada, I have come to the conclusion that with the exception of iP5, every single phone looks better WITHOUT a case. Just as the manufacturer intended it to be. Everything else just looks like an appendage. Sure, you run the risk of dropping your phone and breaking it, but then hey, you also run the risk of killing yourself every single day when you drive. Doesnt stop you from driving, does it? Doesnt even make you get a tank of a car just to be safe.
Here's to running butt naked :good:
I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find a waterproof & rugged case for the note 2. the Otterbox defender seems to be the closest thing to what I want but it's not waterproof/water resistant. My main purpose for the case is to use the note 2 as a handheld GPS device when I go on hiking/backpacking.
Does anyone know if there is such a case exist or anything similar coming into market?

what about "liquipel?" they coat your phone with a special agent of theirs that protect it from water. google will tell more but its something ive come accrossed just reading tech articles.
If you have the note 2 already use a ziplock bag .... and a bluetooth headset. Isn't the whole point of fishing to be outdoors away from cell phone towers? I bet after fishing season a case should be out. Accessory makers should have cases out sooner since most phones almost always are announced a month or two ahead of time. Im still waiting on seidio extended battery convert case for this phone.
yes but when I am in the outdoors I want to take pictures shoot video txt my group I am with if nearby run gps tracking mapping navigation software. run ramp finder run charts when on the water play pandora or listen to an audio book etc.. etc. etc..

as a "go between" till nice stuff comes out I also got this for my Note II
http://dx.com/p/bike-protective-wat...-samsung-galaxy-note-i9220-n7100-black-175949
it says water proof I would take that to mean splash resistant. IE don't go submerging it but if it rains on it or something your "probably" ok.
I hope my Note II fits inside without having to remove it from my cases.
Liquipel is very cool but at almost $100 including shipping & insurance, the price is too high for my occasional need just to add waterproof protection. I only paid $450 for my phone new without contract. Not to mention I need to send in the phone and wait for about week for the turnaround.
Maybe it'll tempt me more if it's available somewhere I can get it done locally in few hours...

Liquipel is available for Note I, so I just assumed with the note 2 it'll probably also work if I ask them, as I can't think of a reason why they wouldn't be able to coat a very similar phone in terms of physical design. But you're right, it's not officially on their list and it might not even be available for the note 2.

I would give it a liquipel treatment and then slap on an Otterbox Defender case. Liquipel applies a nanocoating to your device making it water resistant, see here: http://www.liquipel.com/

They make cameras that can take pictures under water that are now cheap. With your portable computer (smartphone) becoming more powerful it needs vents in it to let the heat out. There's trade offs when you add a lot of features to a single device that a specialized device doesn't run into.

Funny I'm doing cold weather training so I can get used to being out in the cold and ice.
I kayak fish a lot, and I've started participating in tournaments which use a phone app for submitting a measuring board photo of your fish. So I've been using a dry bag style "case" for a while, but it's cumbersome and doesn't really protect the phone very well from impacts, which can easily happen in a kayak. Anyway, someone finally made a LifeProof-ish/Obex-ish case for the Note 2:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NTXWR2E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought one and will post how well it works.
It has loop for you to attach a lanyard or strap -- I'll probably put one of the floating Pentax wrist straps that I have for my GoPros on it. Because the most waterproofed phone in the world isn't going to do you any good when it's lost at the bottom of the ocean.
I've been a long-time buyer of Seidio cases, but was VERY disappointed when they didn't make an Obex case for the Note 2 ("because of the S-pen"), but then made one for the Note 3. :silly:
Where's the review
Oops! Sorry! Thanks for the remind!
The case works PERFECTLY! Can't emphasize that enough. It's really easy to install it and use it, the touchscreen works very well, no leaks, the ports are relatively easy to access while also doing a great job of keeping water out. I've used it twice now fishing from a kayak, and it's really protected the phone well, while allowing full use of the camera as well as all other phone functions. Several people posted reviews on Amazon that the microphone doesn't work well, but I highly suspect that's because they don't have it lined up properly in the case because it works perfectly for me.
Just FYI, this is actually a "Redpepper" branded case rather than "EasyLife". If you Google "Redpepper Note 2" you may be able to find it for even cheaper than it is on Amazon.com. I'm not sweating it, though. The price I got on Amazon was already a fraction of a LifeProof case, and this is the only waterproof case I've found for our Note 2, anyway, so I don't mind rewarding them with a little extra just for that.
Here it is for less than half the price in case anyone else wants this case.

Just FYI, there's feedback on that specific seller for it taking over two months to receive the case. There are several other sellers who are also close to that price, though. Good luck.
Hi comunnity,
I'm a big fun of Samsung phones and since S4 I've notice how good Flip Covers and SView covers help in not permit our face sweat soak all the display. However, it's uncomfortable to deal with that thing along the day turning to front and back every time, some times all most going throw the floor by accident (happen to me), and don't protect the phone as can open the flip and nock the display on floor.
So I think:
Is positive because don't soak the display with my Sweat, but don't protect the phone and it's pretty unproductive along the day flipping that thing.
So I start to look the pouch of my BlackBerry Z30 and have the perception that what a great thing they do here... you have a thing that turnoff the display while inside and you can talk with the person with the phone inside this (but wasn't make for it).
So I start to find pouch with SView, just find the "Crumena" by Spigen for S4, that was discontinued. (Pictures attached)
Now I want to create a Pouch View for Note 5 and would like to receive ideas and receive helps in design by daily user's.
I would like to start using a modify Flip Cover View of note 5 and adapt.
Somethings I have to understand before, how works the recognition of the case by Samsung? Chip or by magnet?
No one would like it?
To be honest. I really like this idea. Let me know about the progress
It's an interesting idea but I personally wouldn't enjoy having to remove my phone from a pouch case regularly. I can see this as an option when you're traveling and are not using your phone as much like when you're going thru security at the airport and transiting from gate to gate. It seems like it can serve a niche purpose but (and this is just my opinion) it doesn't offer a practical service for my needs/wants in a daily phone case. I do wish ya luck, though.

Don't you think that the usability of SView case would help you?
You might look into purchasing one of these. I really like mine. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S-View-Clear-Folio/dp/B012AWAV1S?th=1

Personally, no. I never felt the need to even try any of those SView cases because they just were not practical for my habits. The way I use my Note 5, the way I customize the themes (created from scratch on my PC), the way I respond to notifications, all of that doesn't go well with how SView cases are meant to be used. They just don't fit my personal preference with how I use my phone.
Using the case I'm currently using:
along with a tempered glass screen protector is (personally) a much more practical setup for my daily use of this device. But like I said, a pouch like you're proposing may be useful for special situations where you need to keep the phone more protected during transit in an airport (security) and things like that. Where you won't be using your phone as regularly because you're busy getting from one gate to another and settling into a seat on board a flight.
