Getting a s3 lte - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

So right now i own an s2 and a nexus 7 (to awnser my gaming.needs).
And im about to sell both and buy a s3 lte.
So what u guys have to say? How i preformance of this device? 2gb is plenty enough but the exynos and the mali are more powerfull than the tegra 3? Can i play games with no problems?
What about battery life? Does it last for example 15h with 4h of screen?
One question apart is, on aosp roms are u having issues playing games like real racing? Cuz on the s2 aosp roms we are.. And since both have an exynos 4 and a mali 400...

Performance is great, you can play any game i can think of without a problem. Battery however is not good. After 14 13 hours battery is down to 62% with screen time of 55min (no games, running only wifi, power saver on). I may have a faulty device though.
Thinking of trading it in for a nexus 4, not sure if that is a good idea though.

Don't get either, get an Xperia Z or HTC One, much better support. Samsung doesn't give a **** about its power users.

Its a great phone, feels premium it does everything well. Battery takes a hit. I am not using 4g or 3g no 2g data either. Just using wifi. Now the battery is at 58% with 1hr and 10 min screen time.

I'm not disputing this, I do like the phone. It is just a pity it will never properly run true Android because of scumbag Samsung, on account of this I can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone.

I get 30 hrs approx, power saving on, wifi only at home, moderate use, I dont play games, but do a lot of ev3rything else. I love my lte, I just make sure things like location only go on when I need them but all the tweaks ive done have gave me a great battery life

Over 14 hours and loosing "only" 45% with almost 3h Display on, 1h listen music, 30 mins talking, 3g always on, little bit surfing and playing etc.. I tweaked my phone a bit for more responsiveness and my CPU run @ 1600 MHz and I also undervolted CPU/RAM/GPU. If you want to use a CM based rom, than not all is 100% working, because samsung doesn't release all Codes but it will work for 98-99%

i prefer WP7 look over ICS
I tried the 4.0.3 official for my galaxy s2 and i use to try the minicm9 on my x8 (i no thats not the same with limitations with xperia x8) and even tried cm9 nightly for sgs2. I use my s2 more like a full entertainment system because my new girlfriend takes over the pc, her son takes over the playstation, and my new baby daughter has disney running all day on tv. So i like apps like bbc iplayer, itv player, ps emulator, hd games and then i have xda app and browser for my web. GB runs all this but everytime i flash ics its all hard work. You are right about i havent tried new 4.0.4 is that the new one you are talking about

Running 4.0.4 on my Fascinate (SGS) and It's better than gingerbread ever was. Maybe find a ROM or play around a bit (I'm on AOKP). Your hardware is much better, as long as development is going well you should be fine.

My apps work with no problems, but then I don't use old apps that haven't been updated.
I managed to get bbc iplayer to run after its update and ps emulator plus 1 hd game i have called nova 3 but all my other apps didnt want to run on 4.0. I do like itv player but that wouldnt run and my gameloft hd games so i guess im stuck on GB waiting for the apps to update for now. Its all down to what individual people want out of there android and i dont think ICS is ready for me yet. I even have a few films on my device like die hard and terminator 3, like i said i use it as an entertainment system so battery drain is a bit lighter on GB

i think it would make more sense to rate your battery life by stating how long the screen was on and on what conditions (wifi on/off/ 3g/ 2g/ brightness lv/ have you been watching video or playing games/ just typing sms or what ever)
my record was about 6h screen on time at 25% brigtness, 2g, gaming about half of that time. but i suspect the battery is getting old now, since i struggle to reach 3.5 h screen on time with the same conditions and much less gaming.

Also I'd say you can give Deep Sleep Battery Saver (DS Battery) a try, in LPZ it really extended my battery, but in LQ4 I didn't think it was necessary.

You can also set only GSM mode, if you do not care about live without 3G like me.
Without root u do not have so many options, remove facebook app and installing app 'fast for facebook' is a good one.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Root is a must if u really want to get the most out of your phone.... now that we have Binary Counter Reset (app)... what are you worried about?!
1. Use Power Saving mode before you go to sleep... when you wake up just disable it
2. Increase Deep Sleep state... codes are on CoCafe's kernel's thread... (CoCore E 2.8)
3. Use the app Battery Widget Reborn.... go the last page/tab... setup Auto Night Mode....
4. Change governors to Hotplug, Powersave or Conservative....
5. Disable Background Sync
6. Disable Live or bright wallpapers...
These are a few I remember
PS: I Seriously typed this all.. I did not Copy/Paste... I think I deserve a thanks!
Sent from my GT-I9070
actually, there's not too much room to play around if you're not rooted
you can also try llama or other profiling stuff to automate enabling/disabling things when you need them, ie. like bluetooth: having it on all the day can consume lots of battery, but you can create an event that enables bt when you're answering the call. then to disable bt when you leave your car or sth like that. just an example - depends on you
ofc 2G saves battery, too. and you can't automate it to 3G while using data unless we get CM but still, you can create profile like enabling sync for 60 secs every 20 minutes, so that it drains less battery that being constantly synced
if you're not rooted, then you can't use kernels that incorporate multi-core aware governors like hotplug or pegasusq as stock roms do have only the basic ones and you can't change them unless you've got root
again, I strongly encourage you to root your phone. otherwise there aren't many possibilities left

Like my expert android friend said - phone without Root is like 50% scrap metal phone, after rooted use Cocore kernel just simple set Governor = Pegasusq+SIO my phone just use 0%-1% when i wake up bed in morning & light usage(less 3G ,wifi online facebook, wechat, calling) i can use about 2 days... No need to set GSM only & install battery boost apps..... Just with Good kernel & good custom ROM enough... :victory:

AW: (Q) how to boost battery life
For me, my battery doesn't care if Facebook is installed or not. just disable notifications and set updating to manually and you're doing good.
When using wi-fi disable mobile data. (In previous firmwares it had more power consumption than mobile data but with lq4 it has less, weird)
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9070
If you live in area where 3g network signal is weak or your home walls are fat :
-you got to manually switch to 2g, it could double your battery life... Unfortunately there is no app that can switch this, but only ones that shortcut to Settings>more settings>mobile network>GSM ONLY
1.)When I'm at home, i use wifi + gsm only (weak 3g),
2.)when i get outside on the streets or to the university i switch back to auto and turn off wifi
3.)When I travel between cities i switch to gsm only also
I cant use it more than 8-9 hs.. Its anything wrong here?:

To save battery better to not use any battery booster or any ram increaser its no use instead you should install less app and games cause it use background process restarts automatically even if it is not in use turn off gps  and turn off data at night when it is not in use use brightness level at modrate

I'm looking for really good kernel for my phone. I've 2.6.39.4 kowalski-exp and battery life was horrible. I used my phone for 4h and now it's on 19%. Can someone tell me some really good kernel that supports Jelly bean and good battery life? Please help
Can you post your battery usage screen shot or if you have BBS installed please screenshot of BBS? That 4 hours phone usage that you are mentioning, is that 4 hours of voice call or 4 hours browsing? or what? If it is 4 hours with screen on with WIFI or 3G on all the time I think that is reasonable. I am using kowalski kernel and I have reasonable battery life.

I used wifi for about 1h. Maybe less, don't know. I played a game for maybe 2h. On original rom battery was way better, but ICS on Optimus 2x really sucks. So much lag, can't even open facebook in less than 10 sec.

if you play games 2h that is not horrible battery life...i recommend you latest tonyp build cm11 from 20. 01.2014 and latest penguss77 alpha 31...for me that is best combination ever...no such cm10.2, simply the best, forget about ICS and JB, kitkat is miles away better than them,in almost every segment, it has very low memory usage and good optimization...thats my opinion.bye

Lately roms for this device have been very buggy. Data loss, freezing, random reboots, functions not sticking etc etc. Been longing for a daily driver, hopefully this is it.

Its pretty stable not real big on customization but Fluid UI is awsome lol.
Also Hotspot is working, and I get pretty good data connection too.

I'm heavily into customization
Sent from my jflte using xda app-developers app
No extra customization its just cm11 but its really stable with battery and performance tweaks. Also has round icons and Fluid UI which gives it custom quick setting tiles and settings menu. I've been running ART on it and haven't ran into any problems yet either.

I don't like that it uses nova launcher for stock launcher tho lol so I deleted it and use Google now launcher

Lol that's one thing I really liked about it .. Nova came with it.
I'm also finding it hard to run any other ROM than liquid smooth. This one here is very nice, looks great and is extremely snappy feeling but I need just a few more options. This one definitely has potential.
I like the theme/icons too

This morning I put my phone on airplane mode and when I took it off to use it again, my data didn't want to work again. So I had to return to my backup rom.

ive been noticing
I have noticed with many 4.4 roms that whenever the data cuts out it is actually your apn just switching to Sprint Apn not the Sprint LTE internet apn. So go to apn settings and revert back to sprint lte internet. That is the only work around I know just make an activities shortcut or find an app on play store for shortcut. I've experienced this on like 4 roms already.

Quite a few on Verizon have had the same issue too though including myself. Once we switched ROMs it seemed to fix that. Which is strange I know. I'm sure there's an answer as to why this happens I just have no idea

Just wanted to pop in here to tell everyone that this ROM is an absolute beast. I love the new icons and the WORKING DSP manager bass boost. I haven't yet tested Bluetooth but everything else is a thumbs up!
I'll update everyone tomorrow night probably on battery life and other things

Very smooooth Rom. For anyone wondering, I got omniswitch working just by dropping the app system/priv app setting permissions and rebooting.

This worked perfect. I had installed Xposed, just didn't know which module had it. Thanks!
Now for the next thing I need: DPI settings. That was one thing I loved about Beanstalk, but it was too buggy for me.
