[Q] Do Not Disturb/Quiet Hours - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For the folks out there that already have the HTC One - Does Sense 5 have a built-in "Do Not Disturb/Quiet Hours" feature? Kind of like on CayongenMod or iOS.
Thanks!

Could not find such a function at my one

Thanks - I did not think so, but was wishful. There are apps out there that will fill the gap.

It doesn't have anything in the settings however I have noticed I've had mine on loud and not been disturbed through the night, assumed it automatically did it between specific hours.
Probably just me being naive lol As if you worked a night shift you'd never get any message alerts lol! Facepalm...

Lockscreen - seems pointless on NC

I can see some point to a lockscreen on a phone - which is so highly personal and has so many hardware buttons.
But it seems pointless on a tablet, and I am surprised to see that none of the customizations disable the lockscreen - I would have thought that all of the custom Nook setups would do so.
It seems a huge waste of time to do that swipe so many times - hundreds, eventually thousands of times in one's life - for no reason. And people are so impatient - I am surprised that they have patience for the lockscreen.
Am I missing something?
Or do most NC users already have an Android phone, so they are used to a lockscreen?
You took more time writing that than all swipes of your life combined

Agree. I use "No Lock"

Lol true that.
Really, its such a minor nuisance I don't even notice it. You do raise a good point, though: these things aren't really in situations where the screen might get unlocked w/o noticing. We definitely can't "butt-dial" anyone lol.
I like the HC lock, I play with it for a bit before I unlock it.. lol
Check out myLock in the market, it gets rid of the lock screen automatically. I've used it on my droid forever now, and works perfectly on my nook too.
It does seem rather pointless now that I think about it. Not like it's going to get touched in your pocket or something.
I disabled my lock screen with No Lock.
i just went into setting and turned it off. is this not an option with your rom?

Lock Screen on Nook Color
Lock Screen Pointless? How about someone stealing your Nook and downloading a boatload of books? I used the PIN lock on my autonootered Nook. Now with HC, I've got the pattern lock with my owner info right there on the screen. Unless it ends up in the hands of another developer with a bootable SD card, I'll expect to get a call.
I've unlocked hundreds of times having never thought of how pointless it was... My whole life has been in vain.... /emo

IF you are unlocking via PIN for security, sure, that has a point. Most people aren't. The standard swipe unlock is pointless on the NC.

I guess to prevent accidental 'touches' on touch pads??
How much time would you waste fixing settings or items that were moved from say a kid or cat playing with it.

I expect the first thing most kids would play with would be the unlock button, since it's the only thing on the lock screen that moves.
As to a cat messing with your settings, I think the complexity of Android may be a bit over their heads. If this was iOS, then maybe that would be more of a concern.

Touchless Control WAY Too Sensitive

Is anyone experiencing their phone waking up and waiting for you to ask it something? It's happened just sitting on the counter, my pocket or streaming music/podcasts. It happens at least one or more times a day, I tried retraining it for my voice a few times but still happens.

Go retrain it once more in a completely silent room. You should be able to hear nothing except air moving (fan, a/c, etc.). Then report back.

Biggest thing is keep it at arm's length. Like really, extend your arm to the fullest, and then speak normally. Try it.

The last time I walked out to my garage to be away from any noise, I'll try again today and make sure I hold it at arm's length(tried that on initial setup)

Good luck! I had the same issue as you in the beginning. I uninstalled updates and reinstalled to try to make sure previous cache and settings were cleared and re-trained at arms length and now it works pretty well!

also, make sure you use the same pitch and cadence when saying it. If i want the phone to pick up my voice easier, i can say ok google now when training it in slightly different ways. But then my phone also comes on and thinks im saying it when no one has said anything close to ok google now. If you make sure everything sounds the exact same when saying it, i didn't run into any problems. But i can't wake the phone up when i first wake up in the morning lol. I always try but i apparently sound like death whenever i first wake up.

I agree, try using the same voice for all three samples. I know that early on people were suggesting you say it with slightly different speed etc but I have found it is best to try to say it the same all three times and let the software in the Moto X handle slightly variations automatically.
Mine wakes up all day sitting on my desk at work. I do talk about Google a lot, but I never say my phrase. It's funny some of the stuff I see it type...
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
This is an interesting thread for me. I had the Note 3 (hi galaxy) and Nexus 5 (ok google). Both of them would think I was talking to them when I wasn't, and I have almost the opposite problem with the Moto X. I have a hard time to get it to listen. I re-trained, re-trained, re-trained.. My wife's phone works flawlessly. I do love that we train our voices because she uses here touchless control all the time right next to me and my phone has yet to mistake mine for hers.
Maybe I need shorter arms.
OK quick update, I uninstalled the Touchless Control update and retrained my Moto X again in my garage this morning. It's been about 7 hours and it hasn't once yet turned itself on. I streamed music, have been in congested areas with people, a business meeting and it's working perfectly now.
I'm going to wait for 24 hours to make sure it's still working correctly and then install the update to the app.
About ready to scream!
The touchless control on my Moto X Developer Edition is extremely sensitive. Anytime anyone talks in the office that I work in, the dang phone comes on and waits for someone to give it a command. All anyone has to do is say "OK" and it does this even when I don't want it to. I've tried retraining the phone multiple times and it doesn't seem to help me out at all. I'm going to be so glad when the Lollipop update finally rolls out for this phone so I can get retrain this with a different launch phrase that will not be so easy to trigger on my phone. In the meantime, has anyone been able to get the sensitivity adjusted on this phone? If so, how? I'm thinking of going to Cyanogenmod 12.1 until Lollipop rolls out for the XT1060,
Any help that I can get on this would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] 4.4 Alarm when phone is OFF

Hi all,
I just upgraded to KitKat and was really disappointed to notice the alarm won't work any more when the phone is OFF.
That was a great feature, something I've always missed since I moved from Nokia to Android smartphones...
Is there a way to restore this functionality?

Did you try Airplane mode....?
I wonder why, WHY, in every thread about the alarm there is someone coming out with "Why don't you use airplane mode?"
Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to be rude, but airplane mode and OFF are not the same thing.
The phone is still doing stuff, app are still running in background, power is used.
"But in airplane mode the battery usage is almost null..." yep, almost...
People get mad about the TV's LED staying on but then it's ok for the phone...
I think (as many other people do) that the alarm working when the phone is off is a great feature.
People have been complaining for years about the lack of this on Android. Some dug deep into hardware spreadsheets to prove it was possible while Google and the producers kept blaming each other.
Finally HTC made it, and now, no one knows why, with Android 4.4 they've removed the feature.
I don't want other "solutions", I'm asking if there is a way to restore the Alarm-when-the-phone-is-off functionality on 4.4.

Ok first off for the alarm to ring the phone is not fully off. IT is nothing more then being in airplane mode with the screen blacked out. As HTC removed it and Sense is closed sourced (this is fast boot related) there is no option to return it.

You would have to search deep as this is old knowledge from when it was first done on dumb phones back around the motor razor. It is not a new feature in the least. I am sure you can search around and dig up the info. You can test it yourself by running a logcat while you charge with power off.

Annoying 4 note notification sound

The sound is 4 progressively higher notes on a xylophone-like wooden or bamboo instrument. Usually plays on unlock, but also randomly throughout the day and night. My default notification sound is silence, so this might be tied to an app or the OS (MM 6.1). I just don't know what it is - other than loud and inconvenient. Any Ideas? This is driving me crazy and waking my wife at night. Thanks.
its an app, 100000%. now your job is to find out which one.
Hi and thanks for the confirmation Simms22. :good: I know. Kinda obvious.
I have gone through settings and turned off most radios thinking it could be tied to an app through BT, GPS, NFC, etc.; a successful connection or location fix. I have also gone through the various apps and checked their notification sound settings too. No dice. Whats worse is that I have gone through all my ringtones and notification sounds and can't find it.
It seems to be tied to the Google Now cards notifications, but if it is, I can't find it. I don't really want to turn those off but I guess that's next. Grrrr.

id still be guessing, but google doesnt have a xylophone-like wooden or bamboo instrument sound on the nexus 6, so i know its not a default sound.
Thanks for the info. Hope I described the sound well enough. I'm mostly deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other. Misspent youth and all that.
I know the notifications and ringtones I've added. That leaves apps that have brought their own sounds with their install. So it's back to the haystack.
I think I'll let it percolate in the sub-conscience for a while. Besides, I'm way behind on a personal Tasker project. Thanks again. I'll update later with what I find out.

you can enable safe mode. that way you can check if its an app. long press the power button until you get the power off option. then long press on the power off until the safe mode option pops up. if that notification doesn't go off, then its an app. as on safe mode, all apps are disabled.
Flash another ROM. This happened to me on PureNex and when I switched to Chroma it went away.
Sometimes it actually happens once in a while. I'll hear the annoying "do dieu do doo" sound
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I also have this problem. Has anybody found out the cause?
It started a few months ago and I ignored it, but now it is really annoying.
I put my phone into safe mode and it still happens. I assume this means it must be a preloaded app?
I installed a notification history app and nothing is listed when it happens!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bixby Triggered Randomly by TV but I must say "Hi Bixby" perfectly for it to register

So as the title says. I will be watching a TV and on at least three different occasions the TV will trigger Bixby to wake up. Thing is it happened with three different shows multiple times. No commercials for Samsung or anything.
I have to say Bixby almost perfect every time for it to register my voice and wake up. I've retrained everything twice, the sensitivity is set to low.
The funcationality of this is great but the speech recognition is a bit annoying at times, for me at least.
Same thing happened to me while watching the office lol...

Yup. Driving. Bixby says it's 1200pm without request. But, when I say Hey Bixby, the ***** don't do ****. But, I do have to say, that it is great for ordering her to do things that are on the phone.

I absolutely love the functionality. I just needed some confirmation that I'm not completely alone in Bixby kind of doing what she wants some time.
So far my bixby hasn't spoken on her own, or done anything on her own. However, She can't understand jack **** when I dictate. That might be all my fault though, I have a speech impediment. When I say Roy, it comes out as Rory... and I am sure other words are screwed up also.

Google translate leads me to believe that sometimes there is a human translating me, and sometimes a monkey.
With the word Roy, yes, google types Rory.
Google seems more accurate when it's on, and sometimes it is so wrong, I spit my drink out laughing...
I can't even remember what I was dictating anymore, but once, this is what google thought I said.
