Hej guys. I really hope that you can help me with my problem
Have been trying for 2 days and looking at post but haven't been able to get it fixed.
Here goes.
I have been playing around with custom roms on my htc one for a while now.
Then when i was about to install a new custom rom, i first wiped my phone.
I properly wiped something that should not be wiped, because i ended up with no os and no custom rom zip file that i could install in twrp.
I then tryed sideloading revolutions, and it seemed to work because it ended up booting on the phone and i could select what programs too install with it... but halfway through it stoped and rebooted.
now i cant even get into recovery anymore, and booting the phone only gets it to htc briliant logo. Then it restarts and tryes going into recovery, but it cant, and ends up just restarting over and over again.
Tryed flashing cwm and twrp again, but still cant get into recovery.
adb dont fint my device, and i have tryed all drivers i could find.
Tryed using a RUU, but it fails. Properly because its not the right one, but cant fint one that fits.
Sooo... i think im in a real pickle right now.
my radio is :4a.14.3250.13
hboot: 1.44.0000
Thinking about going back with my phone, but with the warranty gone i dont know if they'll even look at it.
Hoping for some advise, or some ideas on what to do.

try reboot recovery if that doesnt work install cwm non touch. i love twrp but i had the same issue with it and i havent had it with cwm

So i tryed installing cwm the non touch version. but it says the same thing as twrp.
And that is that it cant mount /sdcard/

i dont think that is a problem. im not absolutely sure about that but what is the next step you trying to accomplish

Well, im really just trying to get an os flashed back on the phone so i can boot it, either by another custom rom or a stock rom.
But since i cant use adb commands, how do i get a new rom on there?

i have had the same problem. what i did is in twrp recovery go to wipe --- format data --- type yes (WARNING you will lose all your files)

download all in one toolkit if you havent already its easy to use and easier for me to tell you what to do. plus i dont know how well you know adb and fastboot commands

adb sideload
its an option in the all in one tool kit but its easier or you can type the command

i think it it will be over after 3 more posts. plug your phone in. then open all in one toolkit and select adb sideload then just follow the on screen instructions

Okay, did the side loader, and used android revolutions rom. It installed and and after staying on boot animation a few minnuts it started.

How do you copy update.zip from external to internal SD?
Sorry if it's a total no-brainer, but how do I manually copy a recovery zip to the internal update.zip? Can I do this from my phone (which is stuck in a bootloop: see below)? Or do I have to use ADB with my computer?

My situation:
Using Open Recovery I tried to install CM7 with custom kernel on my XT720
It gave an error: "assert failed: write_raw_image... Status 7" As I was looking that up, my phone blackscreened. After a while I pulled the battery.
Then on startup it went into a bootloop after a picture of a broken screen saying "2ndboot kernel restart in progress." (Presumably the kernel wasn't properly applied?)
Trying to boot into bootloader says battery is too low.
Phone will only turn on when plugged into outlet.
What I think I need to do:
- Copy a good update from my external SD over the bad update.zip on the internal SD, and apply the update to reset the kernel, etc.
- Open Recovery could do this, if I could load it.
- I could load Openrecovery if I could get the bootloader to run,
- I could get the bootloader to run if my battery would charge
I followed the video tutorial and when I flash recovery, then proceed to boot into recovery it fails to boot into recovery, it just flashes then boots like normal when I perm root. I don't know what's going on. I tried the clear cache command with no response.
I have searched and didn't find anything.
Anyone able to help please?
It is most likely you did something wrong when you flashed the recovery img, just follow the tuto again and make sure to follow each step.

I have done that. Tried a few times. I am fairly "in the know" with rooting ect, but I just can't figure this out.

Did you reboot after flashing the recovery or did you just go straight into it? I had the same problem and what fixed it is rebooting after flashing the recovery 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img'.

When I press perm root, it just reboots normal like recovery doesn't even exist.
Have you tried flashing stock recovery and trying to boot in it? I know that doesn't fix anything, I am just curious if your device will actually boot into any recovery state at all. I have read on XDA about some devices not being able to boot into recovery for some reason.

I noticed after flashing recovery, mine doesn't tampered like it should?
The stock recovery says it's not available anymore.
If it doesn't say TAMPERED then the recovery must have not been flashed to begin with and that is why it's not booting into it. Which recovery are you trying to install? I use TWRP 2.5.0 and I flashed it with fastboot then restarted and it booted fine. My device is S-ON, by the way, and running Trickdroid 7.5.

I am not sure if either one will work with your device since I am guessing it's international? But they might be worth a shot.

I flashed the stock recovery and it still boots like there is no recovery there. and it doesn't say "tampered"

EDIT: Yeah I figured it's not being flashed since it's not tampered, but no matter what I try it won't flash.
I'm navigating to the folder: CD C:\One_All-In-One_Kit_v\Data\Recoveries then typing fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and it doesn't work.
It says it's flashed ect, but doesn't boot into it, nore show tampered.
This is very weird and unfortunately I do not know the solution to that. I do not use the All-In-One-Kit, actually, but just a mini-SDK with fastboot files inside. I use shift + right click and "open command prompt window here" rather than navigate to the location, it's just much easier that way. Can you try flashing the latest TWRP recovery?

I just downloaded TWRP and flashed it ( fastboot flash recovery recovery.img ) it said all the jabber, like it worked, rebooted and still no "tampered" just reboots like nothing ever happen.
I give up.
Would ADB be any better?
Ugh man that's horrible. I honestly do feel your frustration because I have faced similar situations with my HTC devices (One X and One) countless times, and it sucks because you know the correct steps yet it's not working. I sure hope someone knowledgeable about this can come in and help you. Best of luck.
EDIT: I have only used ADB to sideload a ROM but I don't know about flashing recoveries. If you know how to do it, then why not? It's worth a shot for sure.

Make sure you follow all the steps to the word and also install HTC Sync Manager for the proper drivers to be loaded.

Try reboot to system (OS), then power off , then go to bootloader -> try enter to recovery again

Tried that, no go.
Also checked the drivers, re-installed no go.
I am quite up there with adb, but not with flashing recovery with a HTC device lol.
There seems to be another method for flashing recoveries besides fastboot.

This is an HTC Evo section but it could work for the One as well, although I am not sure of it. I have done some Googling and I did not come across any articles/threads saying that it is possible to flash a recovery using ADB, so that might not be possible.

Since you have TWRP, just side load the rom
Sideload places the file to be flashed in the root of the /sdcard so if his recovery won't mount it then I doubt sideload will work.

What did you do to get your recovery to stop mounting? Did your installed recovery ever work properly?

error: closed
not working, i think is because of sdcard not mounting.

Try booting into recovery from fastboot and see if it still doesn't mount:
Put your twrp.img file in your adb/fastboot folder
Then:

i accidentaly wipe my phone then i tried to serche for a original ruu and tried to flash it with no luck.
i relocked and unlocked bootloader several times,if i can mount i should be ok burt it wont mount:crying:
i have twrp recovery stock rom backup but no idea what to do with it.

Not sure what you mean.
If you had s-off you could run a RUU to get back working and then redo everything (flash recovery, root, install rom of choice.

Formatted the sdcard on twrp recovery ( fixed the mounting issue)
Pushed rom with adb and installed it
Thanks now i just want to go stock

Hi ALL!
First off I'd like to say thanks for such a forum! Its the first go to place for me for anything android.
Yesterday I did something terrible and very careless from my side. I un-intentionally deleted the /system partition on my HTC One while playing with it and now I am paying for my careless mistake. I have been looking for possible solutions here on this forum and elsewhere on the internet. I did manage to do an *adb sideload push* of a custom ROM and tried to install that but for some reason I cant mount some partitions from my sdcard for example /cache.
I tried exchanging between TWRP (latest) and CWM (touch latest) but no solution so far with the adb sideload method. So I have no OS installed on my phone and the phone sometimes hangs in the HTC Quietly Brilliant display page or sometimes it wouldnt even go in to the Recovery mode but keeps rebooting.
I am clueless at this point, please shade some light on my situation.
In the attached pic you'd find the output from the *fastboot getvar all* command and the phone is S-ON and Unlocked just to mention.
I really appreciate it...

I tried installing Android_Revolution_HD-One_51.0 and One_4.18.401.8_odexed ROMS. I tried installing the Android_Revolution_HD ROM by adb sideload method both for the CWM and TWRP recoveries and it would actually start the AROMA installer and goes on to install but its premature installation. It just finishes fast (sometimes with a success flag but mostly with an error message saying META_INF error -- sorry i havent logged that error, so I am not putting the right wordings).
But now I am downloading the RUU for the 2.24.401.8 OS and I will give it a try. And I will get back to you.

are u s-off? make sure ur using twrp 2.6.3.3 and not 2.6.3.4, also do a full wipe/factory reset before you try flashing the rom

Hi,
No, I am not S-OFF at the moment. ( I have attached a snippet of my status on the phone from the fastboot getvar all command on my first thread)
So currently I have no OS installed and I am not sure if there is any tool that can do S-OFF without installed OS. I tried rumrunner tool but it didnt help either ( I read that its the option to go for if one has hboot version 1.54, which I happen to have)
So the error messages I am getting are as follows.... ( this is in CWM recovery)
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_install
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p36 on /cache failed: Invalid argument
W: failed to mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p36 /File exists)
W: Can't unlink /cache/recovery/command

TWRP 2.6.3.4 recovery is not working correct. It hangs saying "Entering Recovery...". It is something strange.
Fastboot erase cache in fastboot mode
Install the latest twrp by using the fastboot command.
Sideload through adb or store the ROM in your USB, mount USB drive using the usb-otg cable and then flash it from there.
Both methods should work

I have tried Sideload having both latest recoveries of TWRP and CWM. Had problem to mount the cache partition (look earlier post). I will have to resort to the USB-OTG cable.
But I got myself in to a big and real problem now. I locked the oem from the fastboot command line thinking to run RUU.exe but it was a BAD BAD choice! Is there any hope for me now? Now my phone says

Oh boy! I am in real trouble. Please help!

I finally managed to get the phone up and running. Thanks all for your prompt support.
So, what I did was, first I had to unlock using HTCdev unlock and then installed the latest TWRP recovery for the HTC One ( I think its 2.6.3.3 for HTC One and 2.6.3.4 might be for the HTC One X, because I couldn't manage to install it properly and I couldnt find the 2.6.3.4 version in a download list for the HTC One)....anyway after installing the custom recovery I tried installing stock ROM ( latest from Android Revolution HD --- One_4.19.401.8 OS version.
Oh I am so relieved...its been a good learning process anyway but not so nice if one has just one phone to play with. I probably have missed some important phone calls during the time my phone was down

I installed newer twrp 2.8.0.2. Now i have these erros: unable to mount data and unable to mount internal storage. I'm S-ON unlocked. Tried ADB Sideload but it says device not found. Have no idea what to do. Saw somewhere that you can relock, unlock and install RUU to unbrick, but im not sure if i should do that. Help please.
OK. So... Try this:
From recovery go into Advanced Wipe, select all and wipe 2 or 3 times.
Reboot into bootloader.
In fastboot mode, make fastboot erase cache.
Then boot into recovery, and try ADB Sideload again or install rom via USB OTG (if you have)
If it also doesn't work try sth like this - it worked for me some time ago.

It didn't work Which RUU should i choose? M7-UL, hboot-1.55.0000, radio-4a.21.3263.04. I live in russia so i suppose i need one with "europe" in it's name? And how should i re-lock? Just by using fastboot command?

If it reboots immediately when you try to wipe or flash something (i.e instant black screen then reboot)
You can probably fix it with e2fsck.
Boot to recovery select Mount then unmount all partitions return to twrp home screen and connect usb and check adb is working with

You should get an output of your serial no.
Then do this

e2fsck -fvy /dev/block/mmcblk0p35
e2fsck -fvy /dev/block/mmcblk0p36
e2fsck -fvy /dev/block/mmcblk0p37
exit
Now try to flash the Rom again

After i installed twrp 2.8.0.2 i can wipe. Well, sometimes it does wipe but sometimes it just writes error: unable to mount data and unable to mount internal storage. When i try flashing rom, for example viperone 7.0.1, it writes "set_perm some changes failed" right at the 0%. I tried installing cyanogenmod 11s and it installed without errors. But when i boot into rom, it says something like "the process android ui crashed".

After i installed twrp 2.8.0.2 i can wipe. Well, sometimes it does wipe but sometimes it just writes error: unable to mount data and unable to mount internal storage. When i try flashing rom, for example viperone 7.0.1, it writes "set_perm some changes failed" right at the 0%. I tried installing cyanogenmod 11s and it installed without errors. But when i boot into rom, it says something like "the process android ui crashed".

Point C, relates to permission errors for certain ROMs, 2.6.3.3 should work or 2.8.0.1;
2.8.0.2 is known to have problems with certain ROMs

Dude, you are a wizard! Installed 2.6.3.3 and flashed viper without any problems. Yay it's working :laugh: . Couldn't think that recovery can cause these errors. I've been using 2.7.1.1 for quite a long time so i thought it'll work like it always did, but it just kept rebooting on wiping stage. So now it's working prefectly fine :good: Spent 5 hours today looking for sloutions and i have no idea how i missed your post on the faq thread. Thank you very much for your help! And thanks to everyone who responded!

no problem,
2.6.3.3 is best for most ROMs, unless they require a recovery with "by-name" support (such as CM11), then you need 2.7.0.8 or higher
i've also successfully flashed using 2.8.0.1, but .2 seems to have issues again.
