Hi,
Got a galaxy note with baseband version N7000XXKK5 and kernel version of 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKK5-CL726566. I'm totally new with flashing ROM such as this on android and I'm just wondering if somebody could provide with the instructions and tools to get me started specifically for Rocket ROM?
I am a returning xda user from the good old times of WinMo on htc touch and htc diamond
Thanks!
first of all you need to get Root your device. If you are non rooted then go to first link of my signature. And remember
You need to post it in Q & A section or to Roket ROM Thread itself.
This is development section.
Yups. 1st u need to root your device. The easy method is CF root by Chainfire
Hi,
Rocket Rom installation is not different from any other Custom Rom one.
First thing you have to do is, sorry for this....., STUDING.
Note is a really expensive phone so, before modding it, take some time to understand what you are doing (I followed Note's forum for 1 month before rooting mine), becaouse with modding you can:
• lose your warranty
• brick(=destroy) your NOTE!! (this can 99% happen if you don't know what are you doing...).
Ok now let's start with real advice:
1) Start from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325369&highlight=efs (ORIGINAL EFS folder is ESSENTIAL for Samsung warranty)
2) Root your Note http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784 instruction on the second POST
3) Go to Rocket Rom page and follow instruction http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380284 (Dev of the Rocket Rom eybee1970 stopped updating this fantastic Rom so , by now, don’t expect further update)
My last advice is READ READ READ and SEARCH in XDA forum, 99% of question you can imagine has just been asked.
XDA is a really great place to understand, but you have to put some effort into
BTW…welcome to the great community of NOTE’s Owner, probably the best Android Device.
Thank you guys for your replies and suggestions. Really appreciate it. These definitely give me a good starting point
Cheers

Questions belong in Q&A, not development.
can I please request Froyo v10g (or later) Original ROM? (flashable via CWM, deodexed, zip aligned)..
I found froyo is still interesting because better battery life (my opinion, how bout u guys?), and we can use g-button to wake up perfectly..
Please help guys, I wanna try that, because It's to difficult to downgrade the phone and rooting again.. many thanks
sorry if wrong section, but I think development section is the most appropriate..
since this is a request, it has nothing to do in dev section. you should have post in q&a or gen.
whatever, you can downgrade with 10e binaries via smartflash. browse my files to find the necessary

No questions in development.
My galaxy note kernel version is DXLC2 (malaysia)
Did I need to downgrade my kernel version frist???
I suggest you don't root your phone otherwise it will be too troublesome for you, i.e. do a lot of reading, keep up with development (which also need a lot of reading), fine tuning your custom ROM (which also need a lot of reading), the list will never ends (which unfortunately needs much reading as well!).

Yes, you should downgrade first in order to get root. Here's a little guide I wrote on how to do it, hope it helps:

Hey danwteik,
Indeed you need to do some further researching before proceed for rooting as I believe you don't want to screw your phone up.
But as long as you're prepared, you're OK. Am too a newbie to Android and after lots of research, I've successfully root & flash my phone to custom rom as well.
Just follow this guide from Ashwin, great step by step guide and you won't need to worry much as you can proceed as per the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJjh6gi0Spw
Just like the firmware from the video, go download it from Dr Ketan's thread:

questions regarding root
hi all xda guys,
I am new to droid and love it thus far...
after having my galaxy note for a few weeks and doing some reading, ive decided i want to root my phone to have the best working phone possible HOWEVER im completely clueless when it comes to being this technologically adept. so i hae a few questions as follow:
1. ive read the root thread and see that there are a few different options for rooting, in everyones opinion which is the best / easiest to perform the most basic root to unlock my phone, root it and be able to install custom items.
2. CWM i assume means clock work mod...what is this mod exactly? and why is it important to install along with the root?
3. my phone settings read that my kernel version is 2.6.35.11..one rooting option i believe requires you finding out which kernel your running and they list kernels as kk## etc. how do i figure out exacty which kernel I am if it only reads the previously listed kernel version?
4. what exactly does it mean when someone told me theyre going to instal custom kernels? ( i have a friend who just bought and rooted a new Samsung GS2 and im curious as to what this means)
5. i've read the rooting directions and watched videos posted and googled my brains out...does anyone know where i can go to find the most basic and simplest explanation and directions for rooting my GN? (if youre reading and got this far and saying the explaination in the root thread IS THE EASIEST it can be....i need something dumbed down to the level a 2 year old can understand....this stuff is mind-boggling confusing for me for some reason i cant wrap my head around the process or the concept)
6. i basically want to root my phone for these reasons
- to figure out and manage to make my phone use less running ram to run faster
- to be able to install or customize the phone to make my battery last longer
- to be able to do whatever it takes to tether my phone without having to pay for it in my data plan
-to be able to install or whatever it is that allows me to customize my phone (themes, fonts, icons, etc)
- to use my phone worldwide on different carriers without having to pay for unlocking, buying other sim cards etc.
- to install or whatever to have my phone do amazingly cool stuff. (this isnt as important as 1-5 but hey who doesnt want a phone that can do everything and then some?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE HELP! i've googled it and asked friends and even have contacted someone on craigslist who offers a service for a nominal fee. but im smart and smart enough technologically speaking that i can figure it out.
i just need someone to sit down with me and explain everything step by step and answer my questions. PLEASE i'm willing to do anything and everything possible to learn and re-pay someone for their awesome-ness and sharing their intelligence.
someone something, please help a fellow user out.
*i'd even go so far as to pay-pal someone a few bucks or bake you a cake and ship it to you. im that serious.
please guys,
XDA rocks, droid rocks, YOU rock, just help me out...i've spent 5 days trolling xdas forums and other sites and forums and have just gotten more confused. someone dumb this down for me!

Hello Friends.
I am very keen on getting started with the Rooting process for my Galaxy Note. I have been reading and trying to comprehend the various methods of achieving root but it seems overwhelming and daunting.
I reiterate what I have stated in another thread, I am an infant in this domain. I feel much too confused presently and thus I humbly request you to please guide me one step at a time.
At the very beginning, I aspire to achieve two motives. They are -
1] Root my device
2] Back up the stock ROM

Q1: Why ONE only FAQ for theses 3 (4) devices ?Because theses devices have really similar hardware, and work in the same way.
x8/w8 are one device (only renamed) and is MDPI.
x10mini and minipro are LDPI the PRO has an hardware keyboard that the x10mini doesn't have. Q2: Why is there many names for theses devices? There are 3 names for each devices :
The commercial, the number, and the name used by cyanogenmod:
X8/W8 is known as e15 or Shakira
X10mini is known as e10 or Robyn
X10miniPRO is known as u20 or Mimmi Q3: Where can i find my device specific help and informations? For X8/W8 : here
There is currently no similar up-to-date thread for x10mini/pro
Q4: How to root? There are many ways, one of them for X8 are using x8toolbox, or by flashtool and with superoneclick. Q5: What is a recovery?A recovery is a small system that allows you to install roms, backup, restore, and many other things.
In order to install your first rom you will need cwm.
If you unlock your bootloader and flash a custom kernel cwm recovery is included so you don't need to do anything,
if you can't unlock your bootloader (or don't want) that means you are on stock kernel and you have to install it. Some ways to do it is by x8toolbox (for X8) or manually.
You may have seen the name xrecovery, this is an old and outdated recovery. Most roms need cwm and not xrecovery, you can always check the installation instructions of the rom that you want to install. Q6: How to unlock bootloader?http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225 Q7: How to flash a rom?Always read the installation instructions of the rom you want to flash. They might be different from a rom to another, refer to "fresh install" if want to know more. Q8: How to revive my (soft)bricked device? For X8.
For X10mini and X10miniPRO (link pending) Q9: What is the best rom/kernel/theme/etc?This is not questio should ask, backup, try and roll back Q10: Backups, what are they?Backups are something like a picture of your current state, to which you could roll back in case of install/flash/testing failure
they helps you not to lose your settings, apps,data... but may create bug if you restore /data you used with one rom after the install of one other.
More info by stamatis. Q11: What is a "fresh install" This is when you install a new rom, after having all your data/apps deleted, that means :
in ClockWorkMod (CWM) recovery you did the following before installing :
formatting /cache, /data and /system
for a non-fresh install but to void some issue, you should
format /cache, /system and wipe dalvi-cache before installing a rom update (don't forget to install gapps too) Q12: What is a baseband and its number?Baseband is part of pre-software of your device, it allows you to connect to network and some other things
You can check your baseband number in settings>about phone.
In order to install a custom rom you MUST have the baseband ending with 015. If you don't have it then you can update with pccompanion, SEUS or flashtool by flashing the generic stock .ftf for 2.1 eclair. (take care you flash the correct stock rom specific to your device ) QXXX: Where can i find MiniCM range specific FAQ threads ?
Theses threads are for all the supported devices :

i would agree with you, but in fact his thread (and my MiniCM miniFAQs too) is extremely detailed, and hard to read for people that don't know the device or is new to the forum,
the aim of this (and all others) RC-FAQ is to be short, redirecting to where further infos are, and to be standard and looking like any other RC-FAQ for easy reading:
PG101 said:
The whole idea of consistency is that we are giving out the information in a similar way and users can expect same standards across.
Many of us keep changing phones, and users will know where to find answers if they know that the FAQs follow the same format..

editing an existing FAQ to get it in the "new recommended way" is really hard, and setting up a new one is easier
this new FAQ should look like these :
galaxy mini
Xperia play
...
Cool. So let's try this.
You keep the FAQ short, while I keep mine a bit more detailed.
Users can ask questions in my thread or yours.
Your opinion on this will be appreciated.
My thread = Lucastan96's thread because he won't be around as frequently as before.

right,
i'll write at top of the post to refer to your FAQ for more precises info, this one is not meant to be precise, just to guide users
users should better ask in your FAQ for general Q, or in the MiniCM dedicated FAQs (for Q related to theses roms)
this FAQ is not a place for people to ask (in the way the RC-FAQs have been imagined)
the aim was to create a short RC-FAQ, and that each dev make one dedicated to their own roms
I will give you some suggestions, of course my post is not a guide, i leave the writing part to you, if you want me to write full answers though im willing to do it, but i guess you want the faq to have your personal touch.

Hello guys,
I have the note 5 n900c, and I am interested in rooting and installing custom packages.
Could anyone with some experience compile a quick guide on:
How to find the latest rooted stock firmware for Note 5
How do you keep the device updated when Samsung releases new firmware (or updates) ? do you have to wipe each time ? how do you backup if so?
I am just looking for a convenient way to root and keep the device up-to-date with all the minor fixes released by Samsung.
Thank you guys for helping.

Hi,
Firstly search XDA Note5 forum and you will learn.!
There is threads/Guide, in General forum of Note5 and on other websites /forums.
Secondly, you state you" have a note 5 n900c "..?
You sure not a" N920C "model.?
Remember , if you root you cannot install OTA /updates from Samsung, (unless you unroot etc)
Even if you manage to download a OTA, you most likely will "brick" you device!
Otherwise, you have to flash current new updated Samsung Rom , everytime and root again.
Before you attempt to root...... you have to read alot and Google search to find the correct information. Also viewing YouTube videos helps.
I can deduct from your post, you still have a lot to learn about rooting.
Don't just root because it "cool"!
Remember, in effort to root, you can brick your device...!
trip Knox, plus other issues etc. maybe your device does not want to enter "sleep" mode, maybe warranty etc. Can't install "certain apps " because your device is rooted.
So after you searched and have read the Guides that is available, then decide what you want to do.?
Also note, that for some device /models, members do not have root.. yet.!
Its your device..!
good luck

Hi again, I installed a custom rom with boot .
Just a quick question , what should I update in addition to the rom to keep device up-to-date : Firmware, kernel, modem or bootloader ?
I read that the rom will come bundled with some of these and others u need to update manually .
Please advise.

Hi,
Yes, if you flashed a good reliable custom Rom ,
the relevant dev of Rom most probably would keep updating "all." plus other handy mods and features. etc
He would also most probably specify this in relevant custom Rom thread (Normally , the first, second or third post.)
I would not worry to much about this. Just subscribe to that
thread, that you know of any issues or new versions
that is available.
Good luck
