[Q] Is it worth unlocking the bootloader on Xperia T? - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

My question is rather simple - is it worth unlocking the BL? I come from Xperia X8 forums, where I had a choice of many cool ROMs and kernels (not the newest ones, but still nice) and I loved playing with them. I enjoy tweaking my device with custom options, especially CM settings. As I recently bought the Xperia T, I'd like to know your opinion if it is worth getting a UBL and play with custom kernels and ROMs here yet, cause as far as I've read the Dev forums, the newest ROMs are still under heavy development and together with custom options, I love stability

It's completely up to you.
But if you want cm you have no choice, you have to unlock the boot loader

I know CM equals UBL, but I mean if there are any nice pure CM ROMs out there that have least bugs

Yes, check the cm website, there is a stable cm10,

Okay, thanks friend.
One thing bothers me now. I wanted to unlock my bootloader, but apparently, my Bootloader status says it's not allowed to unlock. Is there any way to get past this? I've been reading countless posts about this, but most people just say "pay 5 euro here, pay 10 dollars here"... So I think that maybe it is also possible without paying *shrug*. By the way, I've read that rooting the phone may cause a bug that shows bootloader status as not allowed to unlock and I just rooted my device recently.

If it says no, then there is currently no way to do it, don't pay anything, it's impossible

Okay, so I'm sad now Maybe I'll manage to sell this device and buy an unlockable one. Thank you for your help.
EDIT:
I rooted my phone with Bin4ry's method and so I thought that maybe it's a bug after all as it states in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2186368
Maybe I could flash the .zip provided there? Although it's meant for Xperia Z apparently:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39178406#post39178406

Take a backup and try it, it won't hurt if you have a backup.
But your bootloader must have been able to have been unlocked before, I think the bug is just that it changes the text...

maybe your phone is unlockable but rooting is reason why your phone now shows bootloader unlock:NO(also my case) ... and i dont recommond flashing anything from xperia Z...

I flashed the .zip but still no luck. I'll reflash the device with SEUS and see if that helps. If not, I guess I'm doomed

So I've reflashed stock ROM with SEUS and it still says Bootloader unlock allowed: No...
What if I tried unlocking it even though it says no? Would that just fail to unlock or could it cause any damage?\

It won't do any damage, it just will not work
Sent from my star trek communicator
Sony Flagship device circa 2145

I also had this problem, its because of the root with bin4ry! Do a factory reset and then you can unlock it~!

I already used SEUS to reflash and it still says Not available.
EDIT: I wanted to return the phone to the person I bought it from (from the internet), but he refused, because the screen protector and USB protector were taken off... Does anyone know if there will be a chance of unlocking this god-damned bootloader in near future? I don't wanna end up selling this phone to someone else...

Try this to see if it was the rooting method that changed your bootloader unlock status in the service menu.

ROOT directly stock 4.1.2 with locked bl
I just tried it myself and it worked
Sent from my LT30p using Tapatalk 2

I flashed official ROM with SEUS and PC Companion, so it is not the rooting issue. It's just Orange and it's retarded policy of locking fastboot.

I am in the same situation. Switching from an iPhone to my Xperia T, bell mobility has bootloader locked and unfortunately.. Not seeing anything available in the near future. But lets just keep out hopes up!

What about this post? I hardly believe it works, but worth asking:

this thread talks about the test point method, although we do know where the test point is on a T, this method had been closed by Sony on newer releases than the S. Hence it cannot be used

Ok, thank you so much for all your help Greg.
I've just put my Xperia on eBay. Once I sell this one, I'm gonna buy a new one, that I'll be able to unlock.

[Q] Unlock Xperia V bootloader?

Hello.
I tried unlocking the bootloader at Sonys Developer site but it wont work on my phone with Swedish carrier 3.
So my question is:
Is it possible to flash a "ICS 9.0.D.0.484 (Generic World)" firmware with flashtool and then unlock it at Sonys site?
And a question about flashtool 0.9.9.0. What phone do i chose? Xperia V is not in the list yet...
Sorry for posting this in developer, but there is no Q&A thread yet.

Dail *#*#7378423#*#*
Look under Service info --> Configuration and see what it says under Rooting status.
My guess is that is says Bootloader unlock allowed: NO
1. wrong place (questions go to questions section for T, TL, V all of them)
2. if it is not unlockable you just cannot unlock
3. i would suggest not to try the generic world firmware becuase that might not boot as your bootloader might need a special carrier signed firmware. what is your build number anyways ?

1. It only says Xperia T Q&A thats why i chose this plase....
2. My Xperia X10 was also "not unlockable" at the beginning, so i just hoped...
3. My build number is: 9.0.D.0.484 (if you ment that number)
And yes it says "NO" when i check if it is unlockeble....
flashing the world firmware would not make your phone unlockable
and since the build is same you won't get anything special by using it either
so you just have to wait till someone finds an exploit for locked bootloaders

Damn.....
Lucky me i still got my Xperia X10 so i can have something to flash while i'm waiting...
Thanks for the answers. :good:
Thread moved. Questions do not belong in the Development section.
I know it says Xperia T but as per the title of the forum it's for all the T, TL and V (and also TX but just doesn't say it). Please post in the sections that would be relevant ignoring the T part of the titles as hopefully can get that changed soon.
As you'll see the titles are now correct so now there's no excuse
Thanks

Locked bl - cm,aokp,pa,miui

I've been using motorola defy before I bought my xz. The whole world knows about motorola and their bootloader policies. They arent customer friendly and now google has upper hand over motorola. The 2010 motorola devices like moto defy which I was using before is stuck with a locked bl. With the locked bootloader, we used 2ndboot, 2nd init and stuffs which exactly made us use custom kernels
Custom kernels with locked bls!!
So I feel its possible to use all the non stock roms with locked bl.
Link of cm10.2 for moto defy which uses 2nd init, 2nd boot with custom kernels
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2385250
Any comments?

Just read the stickies. This is nothing like the Defy in terms of the bootloader regime.

There is nothing in the stickies about the discussion in this thread and defy has a locked bl, people are using cm,aokp on it.

Nope, unfortunately all carrier branded Xperias 2012 onwards are permanently bootloader locked. I'm not very familiar with the method you mentioned but I think I've heard of it before, sounds like kexec. To answer your questions, none of the devs here are willing to invest the amount of time it would take to be able to get a system like that working because they all have unlock-able devices as it is so they have no need for it
In short, as it stands non-unlockable bootloader, no custom kernel, no CM, AOKP, PA, MIUI. Sorry
I remember they unlocked the bootloader of the Xperia X10 backnin the day. I remember it was not that safe. One wrong flash and you could hard brick your device (did you brick your Defy that way). Unlike current official unlocking methods, today is very very hard to brick a device.

Its tuff to brick defy cos it has locked bl. Moto devices had efuse command on the bl that anyone tries to unlock it, hack it, mess with it or somethin, you hard brick it! And defy has fastboot locked or devs there are in a great doubt whether if its even there in that device.. the bl is very very strong.non unlockable...

There used to be 2nd boot , from there we can choose the boot methods like 2nd boot or 2nd init, and one thing..those devs are one rockin devs. Quarx and epsylon..they ve gone from eclair (2.1) to jb (4.3) !!. Patched hundreds in linux kernels and stuffs so that they can make it work..

All bootloader lock/unlock status with Xperia Z is tied up with TA partition. Any attempt to mess with it results in a hard-brick. Sorry guys

Depends on whether you want custom kernel - which usually provides better compatibility for custom ROMs. If you are satisfied with whatever ROM you're using, there's really no need for bootloader unlock.

Possible reason of successfully unlocked phones with 11W29+ date:
The motherboard manufactured on the 29th week in 2011 or earlier, but the phone assembled later (for example: you have motherboard what made 11W27, and the phone assembled 3 week later and got 11W30 as manufacture date).
As I know all phones unlockable with 11W29 or earlier date, some unlockable between 11W30 and 11W34 (maybe some of these phones have the older mainboard), and all phone NOT unlockable with 11W34+ date (probably all older mainboard used, and all phone from this time got the new board what unlockable only with paid method).

those days..
@Gogeta: this is only a theory.
Fact: up to 11W29 everybody can unlock the bootloader without risk. After this date: some x8 unlockable, some have hard brick.
Nobody know the truth...
I have an old x8 (begin of 2011, I not remember the manufacture date, maybe 11W08, but not sure), so it wasn't problem for me. I unlocked the phone on the same day when the first unlocking method arrived.
When the post appeared on xda with the bootloader unlocker, my first think was: okay, I MUST KILL the phone with this stuff NOW!!!
I attempted to unlock because I was under warranty
And that feeling while unlocking process was (I can't express)
It worked

[Q] OS question

A few weeks ago, I posted a question re problems with the Xperia SP (dropping wifi specifically). The only response was "Upgrade your phone to the latest 205 software"
Is there a page/thread that clearly lists how to do it?
I did find one thread, but it had too many pages to "weed" through.
FYI, the model # is C5306, Android version 4.3 and build number 12.1.A.0.266.
Thanks in advance!!
Susan

Thanks Sister
Unfortunately when I went to check if the phone was unlockable (the official way), it says Bootloader unlock allowed: No
This sucks!!!
Just to get this clear, seeing that you're using a stock rom. Have you tried sony pc companion recently?
Not recently. I'm willing to give it a try again, but when I've done it before it's never fixed the problem.
Thanks!!
Ran it last night. Same problem is there (dropping WiFi...) and the phone is still unlockable
Time to sell it and buy a Samsung
Eventually an update to 12.1.A.1.205 should appear in PC companion. Unfortunately, you have to wait until your mobile provider releases a certified version for their network. Some providers take a long time.
On the other hand even for locked bootloader there are many custom ROMs available

2015- Still no engineering for Bootloader Unlocking?

I own the Xperia SP since 2013. I recently got a Galaxy S6. The issue with the Xperia SP I had was like many others, even after Carrier Unlock, the bootloader unlocked allowed remained No. Hence I was very limited to the ROMs I can use. We don't even have Lollipop stable enough for daily use. UBL right now has Marshmallow and also Cyanogenmod Nightlies which I would like to try out on my Xperia before I root my Galaxy S6.
So do we have any updates for SP users to be able to unlocked the bootloader? I mean neither Sony nor carriers support the device anymore, they should allow us to play with it now, no?
Please post any updates here
i agree they should tell us how to unlock it as no -one supports it anymore
I read somewhere (i realy dont recall where) that sending your phone to sony so they can unlock the device for you. is possible.....
Any news ?
