Forgot to throw this out there this weekend, but the S7 was $99.99 on contract via T-Mobile's website. This was only for the weekend (ended the 8th), but you may be able to bargain with a store employee. I got them to price match it, but that may simply be because the special was going on at the time.
I ordered mine yesterday.

no, telephone contracts do not work that way in Australia, the handset is your property, if you end the contract early then the total cost of the handset is then charged to you.
That being said, this is my work phone, so its "their" property, not mine, also technically I pay nothing for this as my work pays for it, but yeah, that's how much THEY pay for it
I paid about $200 for my Vivid. That was the upgrade price for another two year contract. :/

Drove to the Fry's Electronics in Duluth, GA, just outside of Atlanta, and picked up 2 White Vivids for 84.79 each, with tax. Well worth the drive to drive back having paid 169.58 for 2 phones that cost 199 for one phone around where I live

I paided 99plus gst up front but because I was still under contract I had to pay 200 to "Buy" upgrade eligibility. Not bad considering I was already on a 3 year just about since I had resigned for a plan change to get 6gigs of data. Beat's the termination fee, or out right cost at least.
I ordered a 16gb nexus 7 on the Play Store a couple of weeks ago. Then found them for sale in currys last week, so bought one. It is an awesome and extremely addictive device!
I cancelled the Play Store order but they still shipped it!
So now I have a spare sealed one. If anybody wants it at cost price plus postage, then drop me a private message.

They will deduct 15%!!!!!!!! And also not refund the shipping!
You are covered under distance selling regulations, you do not have to pay restocking fee, it should say not applicable to EU and Australia, not sure about delivery, check t and c
Easiest way is to refuse delivery, that is what Google recommends

Yes, distance selling regulations give you too weeks to return no questions asked as long as the box is unopened. You may have to swallow the shipping charge but its better than selling it.
to clarify DSR
You have 7 working days from contract (receipt of.goods) to notify cancellation in form of durable medium, eg email not phone call.
You then have to return goods within a reasonable time period.
You do not have to pay cost for returning items if it is not explicitly written in contact.
You do not have to pay any other fee such as admin or restocking fee.
This is only DSR, returning because you didn't like it when opened doesn't count, in this case follows company returns policy.

I did the math and this is less expensive option than getting a protection plan through T-Mobile or other carriers.
At $7.99/month, that's 95.88 for 1 year and that's not including the deductible.
The Squaretrade warranty is $125 for 1 year without the discount (which would make it less expensive so I WANTS A CODE!!!)
30% off $125 is a total of $87.50 and the deductible is $90.
WE NEED MORE CODES!!
Codes usually come email on Tuesdays.

I keep wavering on whether to pull the trigger on this or not, but with all of the glass on our phones, I'm paranoid as hell.
If we paid the typical $500 - $600 for the phone, off contract, it is probably a no-brainer, but at $299 (8GB model), it's tough to justify.
Today's deal is a max $30 off, for a 2=year warranty, making it $95. Add in the $99 deductible, and you're at a total cost of $194. $299 - $194 = $105 worth of "risk".
In other words, I have to pay $194 to save $105, IF I break my phone. Just don't know if that is worth it.
I thought it was cheaper than that. Given the life cycle of these phones and the chance that they actually break, its not justifiable especially if Google is going to keep this price format. A new nexus every year. Selling previous nexus on flea bay, let's say $150 making sure to take special care of the your nexus and buy a new nexus yearly for around $200.

Unless you bought a 16GB then its and $160. Also as far as I know the $99 deductible includes shipping. Not much more money but it may factor in for some people.

Sell your old phone on ebay/Craigslist or just sell it back to Sprint. If you work hard enough you can get the $36 activation fee waived.

I'm way more disappointed in Sprint's cell service. The S4 is a great phone and well worth $250, I payed full price off contract for mine $599, -$263 that I got for my S3 on trade in at Best Buy. But being locked into a two year contract with Sprints pathetic network is another thing.

Hopefully the completion of their LTE rollout wins you over...
ive been a sprint customer for 12 years and the last phone i got they refused to waive my activation fee. i used to just make a simple call and request they waive it, i wasnt rude, or threatening and they flat out refused. they gave me the "we're trying to expand our network and push lte to more markets" excuse. and i bought it. i figure if my 36 bucks gets lte here faster then its worth it. that wont stop me from calling every time i get hit with an activation fee.

Don't you need a membership for that? I would so do that if it was possible.
I upgraded with Sprint at Costco (yes you have to have a membership).
Phone was $195, no activation fee, and it included an accessory bundle. Not the best bundle, but hey, a free TPU case, Car charger and some other items aren't bad.
I only got charged $150 for the device when activating a new line (of course plus the activation fee, all carriers charge this). However, I also got charged a $100 deposit on the line, I'm assuming because of my credit or lack thereof. So I wound up paying $250 when I got my GS4. Is this what everyone else is talking about or did they itemize the phone as costing $250? As a note, I ordered online, not in a store if that makes a difference for anyone.
Yea, it's ridulous that Sprint would charge the most among the carriers. But I bought the S4 off-contract and they offered the best price when the preorders were going on ($599.99).

Sprint has always been cheapest carrier in terms of nearly everything (plans, phones, etc.) But this was a surprise. I'll probably wait until a 3rd party retailer has a big sale and jump on it then.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Can I upgrade through Costco/Sam's club online without membership?
I couldn't resist. I got it the first day I had an upgrade. With everything (taxes and upgrade) on top of the 250 bucks for the device my out of pocket was aroubd 280. It was quite disappointing and the insult was that I didnt enjoy the device at first after being a die hard HTC follower.
