That 7gb you're missing is the stock Rom and pre-installed apps I believe.

If like mine, you will have a pre installed film in there too, I got Thor that took up over a Gb. This is easily deleted by clicking 'free up space' or whatever it's called in settings

Could you give us a screenshot? So do you mean the 6gb is not really the system partition but a chunk of data?

No, I'm saying that some of the used space will be stuff you can remove, like 1.27 Gb of film I don't want to watch. There is a huge chunk that is the system partition don't get me wrong!

A HUGE chunk. Can't see the reason for it being so large.
im not sure what the other storage is its about 7gb
Yes out of the box only 25gb left. This space matters since the phone doesn't have memory expansion.
HTC shouldn't advertise it's 32gb. It's 25gb

isn't it possible to delete those bloatware-apps now, as we have the system-partition made r/w?

You know this will depend on how many apps you have installed, running, and set to start on boot. I leave quite a few memory hogs in the background so I usually sit at 95mb free.
190 mb free with 40 apps.
Plus free memory isn't doing anything. Only useful if it is being used.

lol, I am talking about the Internal Phone Storage
can someone tell me how much RAM is used when the first time HTC ONE turned on without many application running. My HTC ONE X+ only have around 250 MB left of RAM when the first time the phone is turned on.
Please correct me if I wrong, but I think, this is due to HTC sense stuff that takes lots of memory to run. It makes me thinking twice before installing application especially the one that running on background due the the memory space is very little.
I don't own the One yet and cannot comment on exactly how much ram sense 5 uses, but One has 2gb ram so it means if sense 5 uses the same amount of ram as sense 4, it will leave you 1.25gb which is enough and good amount for app running and switching.

On my friends HTC One there is 1.5gb of free ram or so.
Just done a full reboot and mine is showing 1.1gb free memory.

From memory, go into settings then apps/applications and you should be able to swipe right which will then show you free ram I think.

Can everybody else check in the system monitor app weather your showing only 1.5gb of ram instead of 2gb?
Mine says 1.5gb too

HTC does that I think, they reserve a piece of the ram to run the system and don't show it.

It's the same on any device -a certain amount of the total RAM is unavailable to the OS and thus "hidden". For example, the One XL shows 660-760 (or something like that) total RAM, depending on the ROM you're running.

Since this thread is talking about ram, I'm wondering how well does the One handle multitasking? Can any One owner comment on this? My previous OneX pretty much couldn't handle any form of multitasking at all.

Your not getting it. My nexus 7 shows like 900, nexus 4 around 1.6. Previous phones says the same thing as having ram amounts shown less because it is dedicated to the phone.
It be cool if every android phone on this planet that said that right?

No multitasking to speak of. The 1.5GB available RAM is a stock.jpg that lies to the user.

I have also read that the GPU does not have dedicated RAM, so that it uses some of the 2gb. Then the operating system needs some RAM.
I just got mine from Rogers today (Canada)
Says 2G under system info
When I had my GNex I could always look at what was taking up space from storage in settings. Now that I have my One I cannot do this. I've got 2gigs available overall and "other" is using 10gigs. But I don't know how I can see what is taking up so much space. I am rooted, btw. Any suggestions? I've got 18gigs of music so far and I'm not done so I'd really like to free up this storage.
Im a huge fan of Grid Size File Manager. It gives you a visual representation of whats eating your storage. Most likely downloaded roms or videos.

Thank you, its a great app. Its all twrp. My backups are taking up the space but I never had this problem with my GNex and I had several backups.

GNex didn't have a physical SD card slot. I've moved my backups to my pc and now I've got an extra 4gb but there's still 6gb being used and I haven't a clue as to what's using it. I even deleted all of my music to make sure there weren't any misplaced files in my music folder. This is driving me crazy.
A ton of space is used by the system.

I really didn't want to come to that conclusion but I probably should have just stopped there from the beginning. Of course they're system files, duh. *slaps forehead*
Yup. Out of the 32gb when i took this baby out of the box I had just under 27. Still not bad, as I rely on the cloud for everything but roms, booby pics, and the like

Hi all. First post on the One forum. Great phone so far, but only had it a day. Can anyone tell me what the hell is taking up nearly 8gb or my 32gb storage. This is obviously all the storage we have and if it's the system that is taking it up...well...I'll not be happy!

Yes, that is the system files. I think on my US TMO one it used up about 5 or 6. I remember having 27 Gb, but I had installed a couple of apps by the time I thought to look.
EDIT: You can look for a custom ROM that has less bloat, or you can root and uninstall files from the storage.
You can use 28GB for your app/music/photo etc.
5 GB are for system...

That is about right for my US system as well, but evidently the OP had 8 Gb used up on his phone.
