Hi all,
today i was playing with my New One and suddenly this "ResetNotify" popped out asking for SU permission, anyone knows what this process/app is and what does it do?
My phone is on stock rom, rooted with SuperUser, clockwork recovery, and Xposed mod only.

I tried searching "ResetNotify" but i couldnt find any information, has anyone seen/encounter this? i didnt had the chance to copy down the process but i believe its com.htc.resetnotify?
just wondering if anyone has seen this and what does this process do that requires root permission? if i never rooted my phone it would still work?
I see (or at least saw) it on a regular basis. I also did a search to try and find out what it was about. Eventually decided to ignore it unless virus apps started to scream about it.

Same problems, any idea ?
Install SuperSU (update the su binary too) and wait for it to happen again. Then go into Logs and see what app called it

I'm also facing this issue.
I'm rooted, unlocked bootloader, custom recovery (TWRP), STOCK rom.
I did not grant permission figuring this is some ploy by htc to check if their devices are rooted and perhaps unroot it? Is that even possible?
Has this happened with any other prior HTC devices? anyone have answer to this?

SuperUser Pro is required to use this feature
com.htc.resetnotify is a common one across multiple htc devices, based upon what I can glean from the forums. I just went ahead and blocked it though. If I didn't have the device rooted, it wouldn't ask me for root privileges, so I just denied it and it shouldn't make a difference vs a stock setup.

If you don't know what it is, the best approach/security is to deny permanently. Think of it like the key to your house. Are you going to give a stranger a key so he can come in and do whatever, whenever?
Had this issue today, too. After granting temporary su permissions to the process I could see a toast that it was setting Filesystem rights. Unfortunately I couldn't see what permissions were ser on what file.
After that I permanently denied su permissions for resetnotify but probably changing fs rights is permanent.

I just got this too. I've had the phone since Tuesday. Unlocked, recovery and rooted... but still on stock. I denied it too. Just wish I could find an answer as to what it actually is.

This happened first on my HTC one that I've had for a week.
Tmobile M7, unlocked,, TWRP recovery, rooted, and stock Sense 5 for five days.
It is a HTC app letting you know that your device has had an reset/data wipe and I think it wants to help you restore your data or settings.
You saw this after you unlocked your bootloader which wiped your data right?
Same problem here as well. Didnt give it rights though.

The first time I got this i assumed it was part of the "your phone has recovered from an abnormal reset send report to HTC" message that you get after rebooting from CWM. I imagine, if we didnt have root access it would just send the info to HTC with out asking for permission. I could be wrong, but it just seemed to make sense to me.
Happened to me a moment ago, denied it but now asking to "Setup the phone"...
This also happened to me just now, just after midnight local phone time. HTC One SV, newly (over 24hrs ago) rooted, stock HTC Sense.
I've looked in all apps and ResetNotify reports:

When it requested SU I hadn't rebooted my phone recently but I do recall having the "HTC phone home" messages after unlocking with CWM bootloader, but before rooting.
Obviously, I refused ResetNotify from having SU as it wasn't an app that I had manually started. No adverse affects as yet.

I've been viewing these forums for quite sometime just never posted before. I was one of the people with the LG Revolution that lost the Super One Click Root when the OOA Update hit over the summer.
I have SU still installed and its been updated even though I can not gain root access and since I do not have root access I am unable to uninstall it. I have tried the One Click Root Tool for the LG Esteem after upgrading to GB. It say's that its completed but Root Check denies the fact it is rooted.
I tried Super One Click and it states the device is in fact rooted but when I try to use any root access apps it states "Unable to write". Any ideas on why it still wont allow the root to edit the read/write access for my device?

I'm from the Esteem side and some people were having the same problem after the superuser unroot fiasco and people couldn't re-root with the original one click because it did not clear the old su. Check over on Android forums/Esteem/All things root section. It was fixed by adding a few command lines to the script to clear the old su and give you the new su and binaries. HTH

Ty this worked wonders! I found it rather fast. Only problem with this guys batch is the fact you have to manually reboot your device for it to work. After I rebooted my apps were asking for SU access!

Just remember after you've run the batch file to unplug your device and reboot.
So I just rooted my Motorola Droid since my contract expired with Verizon. I'm using this phone as practice so I'm not afraid to brick it. After using the superoneclick method to root the phone, it installs superuser fine, and I can access the app. I installed ROM manager for obvious reasons and every time I try to flash a recovery, it freezes at the point where the app is supposed to ask me for superuser permissions. I tried using titanium backup and it is not asking for permissions either. I then go into the superuser app and did the "Tap to check for updates" under the Su binary v3.0.3 label. The update fails every time on the "Gaining root access..." step. I tried unrooting and rerooting and everything. I went into the superuser settings and set the automatic response to "allow" and am still getting nothing. I have also force closed superuser, and then cleared all the data before restarting.
Am I just missing something important? Or am I just unlucky to the point where nothing I ever try in regards to rooting works the way it is supposed to?

Have you tried updating the superuser app itself? not only the su binary

So i finally rooted my phone and got superuser. But the method didn't give me a safestrap or bootstrap file to download.
I went online and have dowloaded multiple safestrap apk files (1.0, 2.11, 3.1) and they all said they run on ICS. So i install then and when i go to run them it prompts me and says "unfortunately, safestrap has stopped." and it's followed by another little pop-up that says "Safestrap has been denied superuser permissions." So i can't get into recovery to flash any roms. I'm not sure what to do.
I've tried to wipe the data, caches, and restore my phone, nothing helps. And i made sure my USB debugging is on. But after everything i've tired all my recovery apps still force close and don't get permission. I've also tried to flash my roms using the stock recovery and nothing happens.
I also downloaded titanium back-up and when i go to open the app it notifys me that it doesn't get root permissions, that my phones not rooted. Now with the ICS update theres a Root Check in the stock recovery and it reads “qe 1/1″- so that tells me i"m rooted. So i'm not sure there.
I don't know what to do. Maybe i'm missing a few steps. If anyone could help me out and point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it.

Which version of Safestrap did you try? I prefer 3.1 as it has touchscreen capabilities. Do you by chance have bootstrap installed? This could be giving the error.

For the safestrap failing to be granted super user access error, you should be able to manually 'whitelist' it in your superuser application. If that does not work, you might want to try a different root program. I tend to use SuperSU, as I enjoy the features, and the realiability.

None of those worked. And no, I've never had bootstap installed. And what's the "whitelist"? I've never messed around with the superuser app, I've only just checked the log and see all my root apps get denied (titanium, safestrap, etc.)
And for the other root method: I'm not sure how to do any other methods, or even find any for that matter. I know my phones rooted, it tells me in my stock recovery.
If anyone could help me out by posting links, that'd help A LOT!

Has any application that requires Root Access, or Sudo, ever been granted Super User Permissions? If not, I have a feeling that your root was not preformed correctly. If I may ask, do you remember which "root" method you used? I used HoB Linux Edition, as I run Gentoo. HoB Linux Edition stands for House of Bionic Linux Edition. Here is a link for HoB. (Well, apparently I am unable to post links until i have posted atleast ten times. Message me on Google talk for the link. My GT is later on in this message).
There is a version for Windows, Mac, and the best of all, Os/Distros based off of the Linux kernel (which is based off of the Unix Kernel). As for the whitelist, you are able to go in and select which applications you would like to either always deny, grant, or ask for Super User Access. Again, I've mainly only used SuperSU, as i have had problems with most of the others out there currently. I would not go off of the stock recovery, as, for me at least, when I had an incomplete root, the stock recovery said I was rooted, even though I was not. If you could, could you please post a copy of the log from the super user program that you use? Also, which one do you use, again? If you are online/awake currently, message me on Google talk your questions. i will post anything that solves this issue in the morning. This is do to my mother decided that I need to go to bed. My Google talk is ([email protected]). My Google talk is also best to reach me for quick replies during the hours of: 0700 hours through 1530 hours as I am in my classes at that period of time (High School). Another quick question, did you ever go to Az or Fz Fastboot, during your root process? (Been rooted for over 1.5 years now, a little hard to remember). If not, I doubt that the Root was successful. No, so far since i've rooted this phone superuse has denied every application. I use the superuser v3.1.3.
I was thinking just last night that my root was performed incorrectly, so i went to droidbionicroot website and downloaded a un-root method (as well as several root methods) But i haven't done it yet, I've read that it bricked some users phone's and i don't want that.
I'm on a windows and have tried several root methods. I think the one that actually worked for me was called "PetesMotorolaRootTools_v1.07"
Also, what's Az or Fz fastboot? I'm sorry, I'm still kinda new to this rooting stuff so i appreciate the patience.

So I ran that and I thought I had my phone rooted. The major problem is that most apps that require root privileges don't work. The only root app that works is busybox. On other ones, the superuser permission prompt will pop up and will I press "allow". Then, it will say "[whatever program] has been granted superuser permissions". After that, whatever superuser requiring app I'm using will go to an error the same way it would on a completely stock un-rooted phone.
Will buying superuser elite fix it?
Will un-rooting and re-rooting by flashing a homemade fastboot fix it? If so, how do I un-root?
Can anybody help?

Hi, obviously we had a similar problem (
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42529975#post42529975) and I am not sure about how to tackle the problem. Did you find a solution for your rooting problem? If yes I am curious how you solved it.

Nope I never figured it out.
It seems that most superuser apps aren't compatible with x86 Android unless the developers have specifically taken steps to solve it. Since RAZR i users make up an incredibly small amount of android users, almost no one bothers to make their root apps work.

That link above will install you cwm if you don't already have it then with that you can flash either the RAZR I Root or RAZR I Root 2 .zip... It just depends which one is for your ROM and I didn't link because I couldn't find it or have it bookmarked anymore but if you find it and flash it through cwm it will definitely work

There is a way with unlocked bootloader and one without
I installed 3.75 B03 safestrap on my S5A from AT&T. After I backed up my stock rom, I noticed that Safestrap was disabled and I lost my root on my phone. Does anyone know what might of happened? I have no custom roms or that sort of thing on my device. Please keep in mind that I just switched from IOS to Android a few weeks ago and am trying to learn everything via google. Thanks for any input on this matter.
When you say sfaestrap is disabled do you mean while your phone is booting it shoss the safestrap splashscreen with a red [Safestrap: disabled] because in that case safestrap is working that just means you aren't currently booted in to a rom slot which is fine. As for loosing root, what all have you done to verify this? Have you considered just rerooting?

Yes, you are correct. It shows red [Safestrap: disabled]. I used root checker from the play store to check if I was still rooted. It determined that I was not. The weird thing is, I rebooted my device and got root access again. So I rebooted it yet once again and I lost root access. It seems to be an intermittent problem. If I keep rebooting, it will eventually give me root access again. I was also able to successfully backup my stock rom and restore the device to give me root access again as well. I've just been playing around with it to try and figure out what is causing it to lose root access. Any ideas? I do have a 64gb evo samsung class 10 card if that makes any difference.

Do you have supersu or superuser or any root manager app like that? If not install one and ser it up(install binaries, etc) and give it another go. If yiu do what exactly happens when you check, does any popup come up asking if you want to grant or disallow access?

I already had supersu installed. I don't recall ever having to set anything up. So I think everything is set at default. Should I "install SuperSu into /system"?

That shouldnt be necesaary. So i assume everything ran smooth with installing busybox(required for safestrap) and any other root applications? The dialogs came up and such? You never answered my question last time, have you already allowed root checker root access, or has it ever asked for it at all?

Yes, I did allow root checker root access. Sorry I missed that question. Further, everything ran smoothly with busybox. I'll just keep an eye on it. I hardly ever have to reboot my phone. Its just a minor hiccup that I have to deal with for now. Thanks for your help in this matter.
