[Q] i9000 - Best Modem and Kernel for Battery Life - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Whether I'm on the latest SlimBean, CM10 or CM9, battery life is always bad for me. I don't have draining apps and when the phone is idle it's not using battery at all. The problem lies within usage, when I'm using my phone, the battery life goes down too fast (when I'm using Whatsapp and Gmail. Especially when you compare it to stock.
I've done a bit of reading and many people suggest the Modem and Kernel files can have a huge impact on battery life.
So, I wonder, what would you guys recommend to increase my battery life during usage?
I've found this thread with modems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870460
(My wish is a fast phone with a ROM that looks nice, like the latest SlimBean, but I appreciate battery life more. However, a rooted Gingerbread stock ROM goes so slow...)

[Q] Help With Kernel Choice

Fellows, i just bought my SGS a few days ago , and the moment i bought it i upgraded it to Arabic stock froyo and a friend recommended to use stock+Voodoo-5.0.3-Froyo-GT-I9000-XXJPX kernel
i used it , got 1424 on quadrant and it was very nice in performance but i got strange battery life, it didn't last for more than 10 hours with everything switched off.
so i returned back to stock froyo (pda I9000 jpjpf, phone I9000 jxjpd) and now i got nearly 24 hours of battery life.
what confuses me is that, during using voodoo, the battery was during the first 2 charging cycles of its life, and when i returned to stock froyo , it got into the 3rd charging cycle, and now its moving on towards getting better in battery life.
so my question is , do you think that the kernel was responsible for this strange battery life, or the battery was warming up and needed to be charged and discharged to get into its performance.
also , any suggestions about kernel for battery life with good performance, personally i did like the phone when it was on voodoo @ 1424 on quadrant
please help , and sorry for explaining a lot
thanks
Quadrant is a false test when it comes to use and responsive phone .

thanks for your reply
i did like the phone when it was on vodoo, regardless of quadrent
my aim is to know about battery life

Read the battery faqs and posts on this very page .
But battery life is very very variable .
jje
i am afraid that battery faq does not have an answer to my question
i want to know if the change in kernel is responsible for that strange battery condition
or it was that the battery was at its first charge and discharge cycle?
Going from 10 to 24h of battery life, it could be a battery stats problem, it happens when changing ROMs.
But to answer your question, I dont think voodoo is responsible for the battery drain. Personally I use SpeedMod (without lagfix) with Froyo JS3 and it works really well battery-wise and performance-wise.
you don't think that voodoo is responsible ,
well that's some good news for me actually cuz i did like my phone's performance when it was using voodoo's kernel
thanks for sugesting speedmod , will read about it for sometime and see if i dare to take this action again , cuz battery life is a must for me due to my work
i can't stand the phone that needs more than one charge per day
any more ideas everyone?
I also use speedmod and battery life is excellent. Even with heavy use I get over 24 hours no problem. If I was to use it just as a phone I think I could get 3 days use.
And yes, I agree that your battery stats were probably a little messed up and should settle after a few days of use.

I'm using SpeedMod with SeaARMS' JL2 ROM and the battery lasts much longer. If you have a Galaxy S on Bell Mobility it's the best option to keep the 850Mhz radio working.

[Q] which kernels provide the best battery life

hmm. to the best of u guys knowledge, can i hear from u guy which combinations (roms, kernel, modem) is the best for batt life?
i had tried the wiping of batt stats, but the result is almost the same. my galaxy s can hardly last for a day with normal usage (facebook, few mins of games, texts)
kinda disappointed the batt life of galaxy s. lol
Overall Darky rom tend to have low battery life, drain, etc. I tried first with Hardcore's kernel, then Voodoo, which was even worse. The idle drain was not that bad, but when I used the phone... 2min/1%!!! That was mad.
So I put back the old and reliable doc rom with speedmod, and although it's not that smooth, the battery life is pretty powerful!
(no lagfix)
would be kinda easier if you did a POLL here which kernel to use for good battery life.
I am on stock JPY 2.2.1 + speedmod and my SGS battery almost doubled.
Ive heard the Damian's kernel with undervolting is very good for battery life
ok polls are up.
Do let me know if i missed out any good roms / kernels combinations, as I gathered them based on popularity.
and also if possible, share yur opinion on the performance of the roms / kernels that u are using. thks =D
more polls pls!
It all depends upon the way you use it. I prefer Stock Kernel for battery life.
Jve gingerbread modem has made the biggest improvement in battery life for me
Stock JPY, Insanity SpeedMod OC-1200Mhz/UV, ext4, JVE gingerbread Modem,

[Q] Poor battery life with leaked JB TW ROM?

So i've been using the leaked stock JB ROM for a while now and seem to always get poor battery life. If I get through a day I'm lucky. It just seems to suck up power even when I'm not using it. Is this a kernel issue or should I be looking at some other problem? Here's the link to the ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007589
You should be looking for apps sucking battery.. Use better battery stats. I'm on the same rom and it's ok for me.

[Q] Note GT-N7000 Root Battery Problems

Hi,
Yesterday i rooted my Galaxy Note using the LiveNote ROM.
The ROM itself is very good, very smooth and retaining that Touchwiz look that i love but i have found it have serious effects on my battery life. The battery life is diabolical, only lasting 1 hour and 22 minutes of screen time, half of which i was using wifi. Before the root, my battery was not good anyway, only lasting about 3 hours screentime but this new ROM has pretty much crippled my phone.
What i want to know is this, is there any way of keeping this ROM but vastly improving battery life, say to where i was before at around 3 hours screentime? OR perhaps is there another ROM with decent performance, using the Touchwiz interface and also having good battery life?
The phone is running Jellybean 4.1.2 and i am using Philz.
Regards
James

There is a way:
Start reading the uncountable (and mostly idiotic) threads about bad battery life after flashing a ROM.
Or read threads about battery life when the baterry is older than a year.
If that is too difficult or if you are too lazy then please stay on stock ROM - not only the life of the battery will benefit from it.

I do agree mostly with the previous reply.
Still, Sweet Rom 10.5 has good batery life and performance. Live Note seems to come with c.o.h kernel which has Gpu OC. Unless you have change kernel that may affected batery.

G901F Best Battery Life Rom Discussion

I made this thread so that other users can discuss which is the best rom for G901F in terms of battery life.
It will save users the hassle of installing roms and then testing them for weeks to find out which is best.
So let the discussion begin!
Cynogenmod
I installed cynogenmod 12.1 where the battery life was not great, however then went back to cynogenmod 12 and battery life was much better. However after using the rom for a couple of months i have seen a steep decline in battery life even when phone is sleeping.
What is other users opinions on other roms?

Did you recalibrate the battery after updating to 12.1?
I use Simple GX Rom 1.4.1 with Kernel.
Battery life is very good. Nearly 0%/h in deep sleep.1-2% over night (9h)
I tried Nova 1.3 with stock kernel. Batterylife was a little bit lower than SimpleGX.
About 0,7%/h in deep sleep.
With Stock BOH4 Rom (Tmobile) i have lost 15-20% over night
