HTC has delivered Source Code for the One and DNA... - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Well, that was quick!

@htcdev Twitter: https://twitter.com/htcdev/status/321838162538295296

Doesn't look like they have it for the Sprint variant yet. But I would assume they're getting stuff out quickly.

Just noticed that too, which is understandable seeing as we have 9 days until official release. VERY cool to see HTC do this and hopefully they will continue to show an effort to assist their most loyal customers and those more willing to purchase on an annual basis... tech geeks.

Now the wait to get it ported to other HTC devices. Would be fun to play with Sense 5 before we get the phone.

I know they're working on it over in the EVO 4G LTE boards. It's still a dev-only build, but it's moving along. I would rather just wait the couple of extra days to get my HTC One.

How useful with this be once they drop 4.2 which is supposed to be coming out soon?

Sense 5 is truly the nicest sense experience to date. Blinkfeed is awesome once you figure out the best way to work to you. Its a whole lot of fun. But i already threw nova launcher on mine love aosp feel.

HTC phones to get Jelly Bean update “revealed” - no vivid

Brings back hope to some HTC owners
A rather interesting HTC update list has been leaked on Twitter showing that there is still hope that some HTC smartphones like the One S, Droid Incredible 4G and the EVO 4G will get the Jelly Bean update.
As noted, the list was leaked on Twitter by Football4PDA, a source that was proven reliable in a couple of leaks before. The list included codenames that are actually, HTC One X+, One XL, Droid Incredible 4G LTE, EVO 4G LTE, One SV, One VX, One S, One S C2 and the HTC J smartphones.
Hopefully HTC will confrim the leaked update list soon.

HTC phones to get Jelly Bean update “revealed” on Twitter
by Adrian Diaconescu on Dec 10, 2012 with 8 Comments
Although it’s still a bit early to call this one, HTC seems to be on the right track for recovery after a long and painful string of financial losses. The One X+ and especially the Droid DNA might have got the Taiwanese out of the serious pickle they were in, but on the flipside the Jelly Bean upgrading process looks quite bad.
It’s been a while since the last time HTC officially tackled the “Jelly Bean situation”, and, with only one phone being currently upgraded (and rather slowly), you can say things aren’t looking good for people still on ICS.
A bittersweet piece of intelligence has just come to our attention though via Twitter, where a “list of HTC devices that will get JB update” has been posted. The info comes via @Football4PDA, an infamous and rather trustworthy source of leaks and rumors that has provided us in the past with quite a number of precious and accurate pieces of HTC-related info.

[This time Football seems to go the extra mile to keep the suspense surrounding the “report”, listing the devices that will supposedly get JB under their not so famous codenames. Fortunately, after doing some digging, we think we know the official names of all those phones.
First off, we have the “Evitare”, which is the recently released One X+ with LTE. The thing is this big buy already runs Android 4.1, so either Football mentions it to ensure us that it’ll get 4.2 or it’s a mistake. The “Evita” is the One XL, which is basically a regional version of the One X. This was released way back in May with ICS, so a JB upgrade is definitely long overdue.
Next up we have the “Fireball”, aka Droid Incredible 4G LTE. This was a rather puzzling (barely) high-ender that hit Verizon last summer and that didn’t prove awfully popular. Then again, with Jelly Bean butter, the Incredible could finally live up to its name.
Lower on HTC’s evolutionary chain we have the “Jewel” and “Totem C2”. These are most definitely the EVO 4G LTE and One VX. Both are carrier-exclusive phones in the US, available on Sprint (the EVO) and AT&T (the VX). The One VX however has only started selling a few weeks ago, so it might be a while until it gets the 4.1 bump.

Click to collapse
The next three devices on the list are the Ville, Ville C2 and Valente, aka One S, One S C2 and J ISW13HT. You’re probably already familiar with the One S, while the C2 and J are more or less similar, sporting 4.3-inch displays themselves.
The One S C2 however has a 1.7 GHz dual-core CPU, while the J, as you might have guessed already, is a Japan-only mid-ranger with a 1.5 GHz processor. Last, but not necessarily least, we also have a yet to be released device on the list, the K2 or the One SV. This was supposed to come to Europe already, but for some reason it’s delayed, so there’s a (slim) possibility it could be released with Jelly Bean on board.
Now, to clarify, why did I say this is bittersweet intel? Well, mostly because of the notable absences on the list. We’ve known for a while that phones with 512 MB of RAM will not be invited to the JB party, but what about the Sensation, Desire X, Incredible S or Amaze? Sure, no one says Football’s list is a complete and definitive one, but it definitely makes you think, doesn’t it?

Just as I thought, those are all sense 4.0 phones. Most likely getting sense 3.6 was a final farewell to the "old" htc phones. They'll use 4.0 as an excuse saying that these phones aren't capable of running 4 and therefore aren't possible to update.

Evo 4G? That phone is ancient. Nexus one hardware. Are you sure they didn't mean evo 4g Lte?
FWIW I bought the wife a nook color for Christmas and it's got an omap 3 in it which is along the same type of hardware as the first generation snapdragon in the evo and jelly bean works on it but it's pretty choppy animation wise. No oem would want that on their hardware.
I'm pretty sure they were talking about the evo lte which is basically a custom made one x for sprint.

Yes the article says evo 4g lte..which is a snapdragon s4. The only s3 on that list is the ville c2. If it actually gets it I may attempt a port. Don't get your hopes up though..I've never had a successful sense port lol
And tbh as smooth as the aosp builds are I don't know that I'll still have that desire once its released

Yeah after bluetooth is done, I'd imagine using an aosp build and adding sense 4.1 wouldn't be impossible, inotherwords we could make our own update!

The sense apps rely HEAVILY on sense framework. The second you start mixing sense framework, its not aosp and here come the bugs
But I love htc's camera too
Sent from my Holiday using Tapatalk 2
Yeah definitely its all in or all out with sense. I've come to find most of my lag issues with this phone are from mixing it up, ie using nova and freezing rosie, or using gosms instead of the sense messaging app. As soon as you start doing that, stuff starts breaking, and things get laggy.
Now I am running pure wcx stock build, and completely happy with it because I've just accepted sense. Pretty much if you don't like sense, flash a senseless or cm build. If you like parts of sense, use it all
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
I too am kinda confused by this list. I looked at the specs for the HTC One S, and it's pretty much the same as the Vivid, just clocked a little higher. I'm sure the Vivid could officially run Jelly Bean, but for one thing, it would take forever to actually reach us OTA (ahem AT&T). The other reason I can think of that the Vivid isn't on the list, is that if HTC kept updating its older devices, who would buy their new ones?
Anyway, that's why I came to XDA, to see what my Vivid is truly capable of
Yeah, Vivid has been out for quite a while and wasn't very popular. So makes sense that they wouldn't bother with it.

Will CM support the One?

Hello folks.. i'm thinking of getting the HTC One. I'm really in love with it but i'm a rom junkie. As you know HTC One X got the official CM support 6 months later what do you think about the One? Will it get the CM on time or like 5 or 6 months later as One X?
Ask to CM team as they are the only person who can precisely answer
Send from my S3 (2nd HTC one goes for replacement)
Yet they are the ones who push us back to this forum and say "if we will support something then it will be HERE in the forums"
So I think he should ask here and just maybe one of the cm devs will give us an answer

I just saw that Codeworkx is getting the One... So yeah, I expect there will be CM love for the One. Though like many say, I don't think it's worth it just yet. But when Android 5.0/KLP hits us, it will be hard to resist a CM11 build if available..
source: codeworkx.de (3rd of 4th post)
Koush has ordered the unlocked developer version (x2), so he will be supporting CM for sure.
And as for the S4, team Hacksung has already said they *wont* be supporting it, so don't expect that to be better.
In the end, as many have said, both devices will get CM, whether official or not. But why you would want to lose great features like Zoe and the new gallery I don't know. Just install Nova or Apex launcher, and Sense will be out of your face 90% of the time while keeping access to the good bits.

It's not about JellyBean i won't even consider flashing another JB rom on Sense 5. But Key Lime Pie is on the horizon and i can't resist to give it a try. KLP is going to be awesome and most of us will want to get it. But we all know we won't be getting the official update before at least 6 or more months.
Yes HTC is a weird bird slow as hell to get official anything. ie thunder bolt. With this 4 Meg ultra camera I see the support for that being unrealistic ie 3d no one ever got that to work.
I am a fan of the hardware and once again do not like physical buttons like coming on the GS4 . I am spoiled from my g nexus.
But am still torn between these two device one or gs4

I'm with you dude, i don't like the button layout either but compare to sgs4's design it's waaay better. And i prefer 5" display over the One's 4.7" but i hate Samsung's cheap plastic feel that's why i'm sticking with the HTC One.

[Q] HTC One vs. Google S4

Now that Google has announced they will be selling a GSM Samsung S4 through the android market starting in June, what are your thoughts on which to get?
I purchased my HTC T-Mobile version last week. Took a while to adjust to Sense, and actually have 'desensed' it a bit by using Nova Launcher instead. It's a pretty phone, but I do miss some of the stock Android features of my GNex. Actually, it may be that since the GNex has had quite a bit of development, there are some nice tricks I can use with it that haven't been developed for the HTC One yet (i.e. PGM swipe to wake).

Lollipop

As for the Android 5.0 Lollipop, a private leaked info reveals the flagship smartphones, One M7 and M8, will get updated to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop during the first week of January. That's great news for those who are looking to get their hands on the Sense 6.0 on Android 5.0.1 updated handset. Saw this on a site, wonder if it's accurate

Hope so. I really want lollipop and WiFi calling
January 3rd, I've heard. But of course, that will be for the international edition.
Plus, this update ins't as big as I was hoping. I was hoping for a revamped version of sense, one that was slightly more polished and efficient. Unfortunately, it looks like we're stuck with Sense 6(.x). The M9 will probably debut with Sense 7.
That's alright, Lollipop is great on its own.
Hopefully.

I don't know why everyone is jumping ship aside from maybe the camera. This phone has held up really well, and I still adore it. With ART/Project Volta, it should be even better. If HTC doesn't botch the update, then my other complaint, battery life, should be resolved.

I'm not so much jumping ship, just that I have this uncontrollable urge to have the very best on the market. I skipped over the M8 because I didn't see any reason for it when we received Sense 6. But I know we won't be getting Sense 7, and if we do, it'll probably make the phone feel sluggish. I'll still keep it, but I definitely want to see what 2015 has in store.
The M9 looks like a beast. Honestly I love HTC and I plan to stick with them. An update for my M7 will do until the M9 arrives.

I'm neither a dev nor formally educated, so you should take this with a grain of salt.
ART - Android runtime. It's supposed to deliver better performance by precompiling code; ie it's translated into machine language beforehand, compared to Dalvik runtime, which compiles "just in time".
Project Volta: Along with giving users a more comprehensive look at their battery comsumption, this is a set of APIs that allows devs to schedule their wakelocks, aka background processes, more efficiently. This will not have any effect until implemented by devs, I believe.
Neither of these will make a difference of night and day. But it will be a definite improvement.

Just curious. If you dont like something, is it your norm to go look for that particular items web forum and start a thread about your dislike?
You must have a lot of free time.
Haha. I'm subscribed to this forum, as I had every intention of upgrading to the 10, just as I have in the past with every other HTC phone since the OG Evo. I am an HTC fanboy.
But, let's be realistic: the 10 is nothing fantastic. HTC has once again stuck to dull changes, that may very well bankrupt their company.
Their biggest marketing is chamferred edges? Really? Don't get me wrong, the OG Evo was an "Evolution" in technology, but it seems like HTC is done with the ground-breaking ideas it once cornered the market with.
I stay-up on all the tech articles on all forms of technology, and I truly believe HTC dropped the ball on this phone, especially with the Note 7 and iPhone 7 coming-out. It may very well be just Sammy vs. Apple very soon.

So yeah, being realistic, I don't agree with you. To me this phone is fantastic! I would like to point out that being realistic is NOT comparing a phone to phones that are not released yet. That is called unrealistic. Anyways we get it, you don't like it. Cool. I am absolutely loving my 10.

Have not had a single issue with this phone. And it has the camera we all dreamed that HTC would use in a phone.
Buy the phone that makes you happy. I for one love the 10. Can finally use sense widgets with different launchers and whole sense feel is stock Android like. I have a feeling HTC will be pushing updates a lot faster now because of it.

But, that's the thing that everyone asks me: what would it take to "wow" me, and I almost wonder if it can no-longer be done. Android is the same thing, over & over again. Idk, I guess what I want to see from a OS standpoint is like jumping from Windows 3.1 to Windows 10. I want to see a complete refresh. And, I expect the same from HTC. Having the same exact design as the M phone's, with minor hardware upgrades does not have me salivating.
I want another revolutionary HTC phone like the OG Evo, and I truly think Samsung is coming out with something that will blow the socks off any competition.

I'm not dogging the phone guys. Come-on, give me some slack here . . .

What wow'ed me was the camera and fingerprint scanner. That was enough for me, HTC did make it hard for me to theme but now everyone can be a themer. It is a nice upgrade from the M9 to me. Dude get what you want, you have to live with it.
Dude the next big tech jump will be flexible phones. That's about it. What else can you geek into a phone? What do you wish the phone would have? It ain't happening. We are at the apex of these things and all that can be done is cosmetic. The OS is constantly changing and will always include new innovative changes. But nothing is going to drastically change for awhile. They'll get slimmer, lighter, faster, last longer in bed, but that's about it. So just pick a phone and enjoy it because in 6 months something will be out that's better any way.

When some sort of AI and VR is is somehow built into OS, maybe then. But for now, this is what we got. And the sd820 is fast as hell, and hard to imagine it disappointing anyone

Well, two weeks till the Note 7 is announced. I honestly hope the specs on it are not all they're cracked-up to be, as it will push me to get the 10. Sammy's have **** for support, as the bootloaders are locked. My brother and buddy both have the S7 Edge. Buddy loves it, brother says "ehh". He switches phones every couple of months though. He has his eyes on the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro with Google Tango. He's kinda like me, he gets bored quickly. I'll never switch to an iPhone though.
The next Nexus intrigues me, especially if HTC is making one . . .
