[Q] GpsStatus.NmeaListener compliance? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am considering purchasing this phone. Before I do, does any one know if the stock kernal supports the Android interface GpsStatus.NmeaListener?
Thank you

Not sure about your question but I can tell u I'm having endless problems with Gps freezing and inaccurate readings including telling I'm in the middle of the British channel. (when I wasnt).

Could you post a shot of your software version screen. Maybe I can mimicking it and achieve greatness. Cheers

Hi, I have a same problem with my new Samsung Galaxy S3 mini and Sports Tracker. And many other reporting this problem. Sports Tracker works fine with my ZTE Blade. The first I thought that the fault is in bad GPS module in my phone. But the GPS work fine with Navi software. I realized that in Navi software the phone screen is always on and with Sport Tracker go in stanby. And when the screen go in standby the gps stop working. And when the signal is repeatedly interrupted then for a long time does not want to connect. Solution is that you in Sport Tracker settigs set Screen backlight to Always on. Now the problem is that the random clicking Stop suspended yor current workout. I do not know if fault is with Jelly Bean ROM or with Samsung Galaxy phones. Later I again tested navi app IGO Primo and if I turned off the screen GPS also go on off.
Phone screen always ON is also not an ideal solution. Because the signal is still losing, but every once for a second.
I tried various apps: GPS Status (settings: Background behavior/The app will keep the GPS running even the device screen is turned off.
But it does not work).Tracker Booster, Keep My GPS Alive, but without success
Is there any solution for this?

I'm still searching but it doesn't look hopeful. I've tried lots of different rooms and kernels too but with no success all show same issue.

I am having the same problem and I am really disappointed. I have made the same thoughts with you, I thought that maybe it is the GPS receiver which is not strong enough, but this is not the problem, because it can find my position even when I am in my house!
I use (I mean I try unfortunately without success) Sports Tracker and I experienced the same problems. I installed the Tracker Booster and at first I thought I solved my problem. But today when I went out for a long ride with my bike (60+ kilometers) I realised I had the same problems.
What can I tell... I hope that Sports tracker will give us an update and magically the problem will be an unpleasant memory of the past!
If anyone have solved this problem please tell us how

Gray Wifi Icon with JuiceDefender/GreenPower

Hi, everyone. For those of you NS owners running ICS 4.0.3 and use JuiceDefender or GreenPower to manage your Wifi, after unlocking or turning on your screen and then connecting to Wifi, do you get an all gray Wifi icon on the notification bar, even though you're getting good signal?
Here's what mines look like, and I'm not sure if this is an app or ICS 4.0.3 issue:

It only shows up like normal (with blue bars) if I turn off and turn on back right away my screen.
So, nobody uses JuiceDefender or GreenPower on their NS?
I actually use Juice Defender as well, however when I have good signal (using WiFi) it turns blue as it should.
I am using Stock 4.0.3 w/ BrainMaster's tweaks.
I use AOKP has a built in "Juice Defender"

I'm having the same exact problem, but I'm on the LTE Galaxy Nexus.
I'm having exactly same problem.
When I turn on "power saver mode"(it's AOKP stock JD control) it shows always grey signal after turn oh the screen, even though signal's fine.
Anyway, it's not so anoying for me. :-D

Well, my NS is on Brainmaster's Stock ICS ROM. So, I suppose this is an ICS issue, and power saving apps have nothing to do with it.
What's the best way to let Google know about this bug?

I don't use Juice Defender and I don't have that issue. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say your problem actually is Juice Defender. The gray icon means you are not synced with Google's servers. Since Juice Defender turns off sync/mobile data as one of it's features logic says its the app that's the problem

If that was the case, it would show the connectivity bars and be gray. As seen in his screenshot, it's not even showing signal strength. And if we weren't connecting to the google servers, we would be experiencing other problems.
I don't think it's an ICS issue either, it happened on my Droid Bionic on 2.3 as well.
Yup, I just installed Juice Defender on my Galaxy Nexus (used it on my Nexus One) and noticed the grey wifi signal just like your screen shot. Happens after I unlock the device.
Old thread I know, but I've got the same issue on galaxy note running custom ics rom . O ly happens when jd is set to manage wifi. I turn wifi management off inside jd and my wifi signal notification is back to normal
Confirming problem on Galaxy S3.
Again I know this is an old thread but I thought it was appropriate just to confirm this bug on the galaxy S3. Don't know of a fix though.
I still have the same bug with Green Power

I was hoping that this issue will be resolved in the official ICS 4.0.4 update, but my NS still has this gray Wi-Fi icon bug with both JuiceDefender and GreenPower.
Bug on S3
I can confirm this bug not only while usng JD, and Green Power, but also using Better WiFi.
This might be caused by some permission isue with ICS. And not necesarilly with JD.
I will install JD on jelly bean, and see if the bug is still there.
Bug on S3 too
Hi !
I've got a galaxy S3 with JuiceDefender, and I've got exactly the same problem too...
Same bug still exists in stock Jelly Bean.

Why doesn't someone email to developer of GreenPower ? Gael is a kewl dude and we've been exchanging emails, when he started with the GreenPower app.

Galaxy note wakelock issues 1.GPS 2.Fuel_Alerted.

I've been struggling with some wakelock issues that can really drain the battery on the Galaxy note. These can ONLY be seen in Better battery stats, and checking the CPU usage in CPU Spy.
One is the GPS wakelock.
This pops up quite randomly. But most likely after some App has attempted to use the GPS and it's switched off from the toggle switches. I've noticed it sometimes after the Google website on the browser tries to fix my location for local search.
The other is Fuel_Alerted.
This does not come too often, but at about the time the wakelock began, I noticed a slight spike (1 percent rise) in battery levels (from 10 to 11%) as is reported by the standard battery consumption graph. It might be related to it. But since I'm a NOOB, I have no idea.
It would be great if others facing the same issue add to this thread. I've already seen this being reported elsewhere, but no solution has been posted other than restarting the phone to temporarily get rid of the problem.
Something is definitely amiss. Let's try and get to the bottom of this.
I fixed fuel alerted by removing battery for a few minutes. Didn't get it anymore after that.
The only fix for that GPS bug I've found is to power off the phone for 1min, just rebooting wont help.. Not sure what triggers it since I dont use GPS.

You'll see from the screen captures that the GPS wakelock sorted itself out in about 2 hours.
Where did it come from? Where did it go? Using the system monitor app there is no obvious correlation between the wakelock and any other app. The GPS is just on all by itself.

Yes, I removed it altogether.
I think the problem is that SOMETIMES, a GPS lock fails, and the GPS gets stuck. Facebook app was probably trying to get a location fix too often. Though I think I did turn that off in the settings.
I've just flashed the FM kernel. And so far there are no wakelocks. (1 day)
I'll post if anything changes.
GPS wakelock just reared it's ugly head. I'm using FM kernel.
I've also noticed that if the GPS wakelock is present, and then I turn on some app like google maps, that app is unable to use the GPS based location service. Until I quit the app and try again. This I've guessed from the little location icon that shows in the notification bar. So, it really is like the GPS service is "stuck". Does anyone know how we verify this.?
Some genius developer needs to take up this cause.
Maybe one out give attempts to get a GPS fix results in a wakelock that doesn't go away.

Someone over at Cyanogen has discovered the problem and a fix for it. Except I have no idea what he's done.
Could a Kernel developer take a look at this. I think this might be a common problem.

Screen wakes up from sleep/standby by itself.

Hello guys, I'm interested in buying a galaxy note from somebody, but it has a problem. The screen wakes up from sleep by itself multiple times. From what I understand it turns on, then turns off, a few seconds later it turns on, then off.
I've seen this problem on other forums, and some answers include turning off/uninstalling some programs, but the guy who owns the phone said he restored to factory default. (The phone is rooted.)
Is this a fixable problem? Is it a big bother to stop me from trying to buy the phone? Is this a hardware or software? Did anyone have this problem and fix it? Thanks.
Ah poop wrong section (supposed to be in the Q&A right). Had the wrong tab open, sorry.
You could try cleaning the use port. Maybe the phone thinks something is being plugged in

I have had this problem, but it only ever happens when you turn the Note on while on charge. If you disconnect before turning on it never happens. No idea if that helps, but that is my experience.
i had this same problem and it was caused by go weather app because it wasn't able to access the internet for some reason..
i reinstalled the app and it solved the problem..
i have included a screenshot of night time usage when this problem existed.i did not use the phone during the entire 8 hours..the phone was acting by itself..

Thanks a bunch for the answers guys, some new answers I haven't seen. I bought the phone, so hopefully if it happens I can fix it.
Just in case somebody else is looking for the same answer (since it's a rare problem), some possible answers I've read on other forms (haven't tried any of these):
1. Clear cache/memory from the task manger.
2. Check apps. that connect online (including widgets), and disable/reinstall them (like what johnvarghese said). This might happen with there is no wifi. (Also check which apps might wake up your phone from sleep.)
3. Somebody (on a random forum) told me to turn on the GPS.
4. Some applications can be used for locking/unlocking/ or disabling other programs/ or turning of wifi when the phone turns off, not sure, more info. could be found if you google search.
Again thanks a bunch guys.

Congradulations on your new phone. Ive been a happy note owner for almost a month. On stock 4.0.3 just root. The problem ur refering to dosent seem to me as a problem, my note and nexus s have the same issue and a few friends owners of android devices get the same "behaviour" whether on ics or gb. When i look at my battery stats, during the night the phones battery usage is literally a flat line but with many wake ups in the screen. Above a user posted a screen shot over an 8 hour period with massive drain. thats not normal. you shouldnt worry yourself as long as your battery is holding up properly.

better battery stats, helped me alot.

I had the same issue,
in my case, mp3 downloader's ad Notification was waking up my screen,
I found it out by using app "Wakelock detector" GooglePlay Link
you need to check for "full wakelocks", check the screenshot
Screend issue resolved (Culprit:- Facebook locked by Applock)
I have locked facebook app with 'Applock software, which was causing the problem.:crying:
Now I have removed Facebook from 'Applock software list.
Now it is working fine. :fingers-crossed:
P.S. other application are still locked by Applock software:good:

Note 3 on Android 4.3 won't enter deep sleep!

Odd bug I found on my note 3 is that the phone will sit at 300 Mhz with the screen off all day without entering deep sleep
It will only do this on WiFi though as soon as I turn it off Deep Sleep will function as it should.
I have the NB4 firmware and Bootloader, Android 4.3.
I am rooted and I have Xposed Firmware installed, anyone else have this issue?
Install wakelock detector.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector
It will tell you what's waking your device. But I'm going to guess you have location services on.
I have the exact same problem. It's a month now and I didn't change my wifi router or anything.
There are no apps directly causing this. I will inspect kernel wakelocks and report back. But I bet that some app is doind something that causes "android system" to wakelock the cpu. I have many apps so it will be very hard since none of them have any battery drain out of the normal usage.

Turn off "Always allow scanning" in wifi. (Menu/Advanced.) Scanning wakes the phone, and the normal scan interval is 5 minutes. (It'll still be scanning when you're in the page showing the available connections. You are in there to look for a connection, right? No one would ever be in there for any other reason. (No, Bill Gates didn't say that no one will ever need more than 640K of memory.) IOW, it's going to scan whether you need it to or not if you're on that page, but it stops as soon as you close the page. (Even though there's a Scan Now button. Come on, Google - next time, try thinking. Just a little.)
Hmm nope.. I think something else was corrupted somewhere.
I tried this:
Code:
adb shell pm clear com.android.providers.settings
adb reboot
After setting the main settings again, the phone is now much faster and as of now the problem didn't show up.
I'll keep you posted if it happens again. If not, this could help many many people.
Confirmed: the problem was totally solved.
I suggest anyone with the same problem to give this a try and do not restore the main settings from a backup.. but just set again the home and lockscreen or any of the main settings you need.
I think something gets messed up with intensive use or tests. This apparently cleans it.

I had the same problem, the phone was at 300 Mhz with the screen off all day without entering deep sleep mode.
All I did was changing the wallpaper to the default one !!!!
Ploblem solved.
Very strange ....
I tried it 3-4 times (switching wallpapers from default to another one downloaded from the internet) to make sure that this was the problem.
At all times the problem came back and disappearing.

Thanks Zibri !!!
ps
How can I try this without root ?
Code:
adb shell pm clear com.android.providers.settings

Sound, Flashlight, Vibration, Camera NOT WORKING AT ALL on my HW P30 Pro

I am using P30 Pro VOG L029 9.1.0.168
Yesterday I was driving and using GPS when suddenly everything goes silence.
1. No Sound (even Music was playing but muted)
2. No vibration at all (even the usual vibration when I turn on the phone)
3. Camera Can't be open. No error message whatsoever. (it's blinking black one time like the camera was running but nothing happened.
4. Even flashlight is dead. (when I press, there is the blue ring light up around the flashlight icon but no flash), and no error message here also).
I haven't tried factory reset yet, because O dont have a chance to backup my files and photo yet.
I have tried running on safe mode. Still same thing happen.
And NO, I didn't drop the phone... I am using UAG Plasma Casing BTW.
What should I do?

hi can i know have you settled the issue?
Hi, I wondering if you have any solution about this issue ? That is exactly what is happen to me
To everyone with the same problem, follow these steps:
1. Drain the phone's battery
2. Leave it on that state for 10 minutes (an hour, just to be sure)
3. Open it again
Phone should start vibrating and playing back sounds now.
Should also fix the camera and flashlight issue.
Your welcome.

Drain the phone's battery until 0?
Exact same thing happened to me on my P30, after a couple of weeks things got fixed on their own. A few days later the flash and the speaker sound went off again, and the cam and vibration kept working .. how weird is this issue !!!

You cant drain the phone's battery until 0, because the phone turns off at 2%

Do you have any raccomandation?

I've exactly the same problem on my P30 Pro, plus battery drain, heating and slow startup. Tried all the apparent fixes, the above, safe mode, clearing system cache, all with the exception of a factory reset.
