Hello there! You can try the free app (paid version also available) "KindleFree" that makes it easier for KF HD users to install custom launchers on stock firmware.
Root the Kindle Fire HD before trying this.
You should probably want to revert back to 7.2.3, install Hashcode's second bootloader, twrp & Kinology. After that, pay for spb and install it. It will work fine then.

Thing is I already played for it. When I try to use kindolgy it gets stuck on loading like stock

Hmm... Spb works perfectly for me. Some people have said that installing Chainfire 3d allowed spb to work. There's literature somewhere on that launcher, but I don't remember where.

Chainfire's what it took to get it running on mine. Since my last de-brick, I've stuck with Xperia.

I'm wondering if, after the new update, anyone's had a bricked device? I unrooted before since I was afraid of that, but if no one got problems so far, its safe to root once again... Besides would love to know of someone was able to avoid the update somehow. It has officially been releases a while ago (you can look into amazon's update software page)

Nope, my device was rooted when I got the ota, but I did not get bricked. I just re rooted with the qemu tool.
did u have gplay installed?

Yes, and I can still install just fine from it.
One las question, did ypu have a custom launcher and no problem?? If so, Im ready to stay rooted

No problems with custom launchers but the update does remove them. So you have to reinstall after the update

Not correct, I still have Nova Launcher as default after update.
Personally, anything I had placed in system was removed for me. This included Nova launcher, Swype, and the Vending.apk for gplay. I just rerooted and put them all back, and everything else I had as retained.

I just got mine, and once it was booted up, it clearly did an auto upgrade to 7.2.1. I got the QEMU root tool but the Kindle is never recognized when I plug it into the computer.
Any ideas why that's happening?
I need a app to help me root my kindle fire hd 7 I don't have a PC not sure if that's a problem or not
Root and Google Play for Amazon 7" Kindle Fire HD Software Version 7.2.3
Great question.
You will need a PC, MAC or Linux to Root the Kindle Fire HD.
The other option is to send it in to a company and have them Root
the Kindle Fire HD 7". We do offer the service.
You can PM us and we will give you the details.
Cool thanks man

Hello guys and gals,
I was looking over the information for the kindle fire HD 7, and I personally own the Original Kindle fire. Through a bit of work, I was able to root, install the play store, and unroot on my original kindle. This allowed me to have the play store, and run the stock os and retain my prime access.
Is there a method that allows this on the fire hd? If not, is 1mobile.com the app store everyone seems to be using?
There's actually a custom Rom called Kinology that will let you keep access to Amazon Prime and Instant Video. So you can just root and stay rooted, just flash kinology and you're good to go
Edit: oh yes, and you get play store access too. Best of both worlds!
from my Viped out one x
I thought root on the kfhd didn't break prime....

Yes you lose prime access when rooted. I rooted because i was never gonna watch movies or show on this device. I got it for a gift.

If you use a CM based ROM you'll lose prime, that's because they don't have the same framework as the amazon ROM, which supports prime. Kinology uses the same framework as the amazon stock ROM, and so with kinology you keep prime.
Hi, My brother has a rooted kindle (Which I rooted for him, he doesn't know much about root, but he wanted the play store). His kindle was starting to get laggy, and random touch input, Im thinking it's happening because it's just slow. I'm not sure what app is causing this, but just to point out.. So he wanted to format. I'm not sure if it will brick his kindle since it's rooted. But I did see a forum page about someone's phone on a black screen because it was rooted and he formatted it. So should I unroot it then format? Am I missing something?
You do not want to format your kindle. Instead install a new rom such as kinology. Follow all instructions.

Workaround?

Thanks for the reply, but the kindle's bootloader isn't unlocked. Is there a workaround or anything from flashing a rom?
Just go into the Dev section and read the thread by hashcode entitled installing second boot loader + twrp

Okay, Ill try it, thanks for the info. (Ill get a fastboot cable from ebay too.)
Hi there fellow xda developers.
I have a kindle fire HD 2012 on os version 7.2.1. I would like to update this to a later version in order to install a 2nd bootloader. I have tried using SRT 1.3.5 to update it but it ends up bricking the kindle so i had to use SRT 1.2 to get it back to stock. I can't update it using OTA as the kindle itself is disabled and is no longer recognized by amazon, it wont even let me sign in.
Is there any way of updating it.
Thanks in advance.
I'm assuming you have a factory/fastboot cable, download Kindle Fire First Aide and select the option that says Kindle Fire HD 7 and find the option that says completely restore Kindle to 7.2.3

Anything past 7.2.3 and you can't install the 2bd bootloader without boot looping
