Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-perf-CL972857 [email protected]#1
Build number - GINGERBREAD.DDKQ8
This phone has low RAM and is inherently slow. I want to root it so that i am able to upgrade it to the latest Android for new features, stability and better performance. I need help from all the experts here to guide me as to how can I root my phone without any issues.

Thanks but unfortunately this does not help. It takes me to another link and then another but it's not what i am looking for. The question for for specifically DDKQ8 baseband version if it can be rooted with the same instructions and using the same upd_1.zip root file? I see conflicting responses/threads on the internet and hence i need help from you experts to guide me. Please tell me how can I root my phone?

Download universal gb root and you will root it for sure
rooting procedure is same as with upd_1.zip but its newer and it will work for sure

Thank you so much - highly appreciate your response. Could you please share the link to download universal gb root? Any video that i could refer to make it easier to do?

Copy zip you downloaded from link above to your sd card and go to recovery(home button + power button) and go to install from zip and after install is over reboot to system and thats it

After rooting .....need some help again
I read a thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942957) which says you should NOT use ROM manager on Ace. I downloaded and opened it but technically haven't used it to take back-up etc. After I read this thread, I uninstalled it - I believe my phone is not bricked?
Also, How can I take a back-up of my ROM? I saw a thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=18167974) recommending to use a custom app but that's not tested. What should I do?
As always, your help is appreciated!!

Your phone is ok
If you installed cwm 5 recovery you can use backup option from it

Upgrading VZW tab

I have the SCH-I800 or verizons galaxy tab and am looking to upgrade it some. It currently has galaxy cubed and I wanted to go to CyanogenMod9 or ICS. I tried going to CyanogenMod9 from clockwork but it aborts with error code 7. So does anyone have some recommendations as to what I should upgrade 2 and a rather noobish guide on how to do it?
Thanks

Been using this from weeks , have no problem. Perfect daily driver

I recently purchased the same VZW tab (part of $49 close-out sale) and have been unable to find definitive instructions for rooting the device. Would you mind sharing a link that describes the steps?
Thanks in advance.

Hi. I have been reading your threads on rooting the original verizon galaxy tab and everything makes sense through root. In one of your posts you say,
"After rooting install clockwork mod 5.0.2.7 ( not sure abt this it can be 5.0.7.2) with heimdall .
Than u can install ics from first link provided "
I am very new at flashing roms, so this portion of your phrase is not clear to me. Before I root, I want to have decent confidence I can get ICS onto my tab. Have downloaded the daily driver you noted (Build 10 and the patch) into folders to flash....None of the files in each look like what was inside the Vanilla folder. ANy additional advice or steps you can provide post root would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much in advance. Will post this on the thread as well in case others are in the same boat.
gonna try it tonight
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585619
from what i read this is suppose to work the same way on the vzw tab. im gonna try tonight and report back.
as per cm9 instructions the rom is suppose to be flashed thru cwm not thru heimdall.... but first you have to upgrade cmw to the 5.. one
*edit*
i followed this method. instead. method above made me soft brick my tab. post #563 has the instructions.... you must use winzip to unzip cmw recovery file

I had a lot of problems at first too.
The first step you need to do root it with super one click root.
Do a search in the forums. There are several tutorials that explain how to use it. It's really simple.
Using that programs getting the phone to root was easy. The problem I had was the flashing part and getting Odin to work for the first time to install clock work recovery.
Do you mind providing a link? I really need to know the step-by-step procedure and see the reliabilty.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
1) download the latest 2.3.6 JW4 firmware (for GT-I9000) from sammobile.com. Also download ODIN and flashing guide.
2) For CF-root , following the instruction on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108.
If you don't want to upgrade to 2.36 then just follow link in the second step . That should have the instructions and the download link for your GB rom. Ensure that you pick the right tar file corresponding to your firmware version.
I am sorry but i am a little dumb and slow -.- I not quite get thr threadnposted by Chainfire, in which the link you provided. I am using a gingerbread 2.3.3 . So what am I supposed to do? Cos they say smth like CF-root Gingerbread (2.4 XXjvk or newer) . What does this actually means? And after that i couldn't get the whole chunk.

Samsung Galaxy GT-S5830(Require Help)

Any Expert pls help me sir,
Actualy i have rooted my phone and installed Cynogenmod 9(Android 4.04) but i m not satisfied with battery life, video play, working so i want to go back to the original version of android which i got when i purchased this phone. Can i get that? Or an official Android 4 without rooting & installing CWR?
Unfortunately this forum is for the SGH-i500 which is not the phone you were asking about. So we won't be able to provide any specific help for you.
Moved to Galaxy Ace
you should have made a Nandroid Backup before flashing a new rom..................if dosen't then you can only flash a stock rom of your region via odin

Must have take full backup before installing new rom to your device.
There are a number of sites have storing the stock firmwares into their server.
First you must know about your phone's baseband version, search that firmware and download it as well as a cooper file and a software called odin.
Download a video from youtube that showing "How to install Android 2.3.X in galaxy ace gt-s5830 by odin".
Watch the video and simply flash your phone.
Hit thanx if i helped you.
Flash stock firmware through odin

why you are on 2.1???official update is released since ages..just update to 2.3.6 and then follow the same.
this two steps done very carefully
1 when you connect yor phone to odin in download mode the yellow light will be blinked in id:com.
2 put kernel file in PDA only
3 uncheck re partition and just click your device will be rooted enjoy.
I just got the phone yesterday bro....how do I update to 2.3 though, ?

Last time I needed gingerbread I did a simple Google search. There are working links in these forums if you search too.

Follow these steps sequentially; safest, tried and tested by over 10,000 people on GT-i9000:
1. Go back to stock: Flashing To Original Rom - Using Odin on GT-i9000
2. Root your device: Rooting GT-I9000 2.3.3 [India DDJV9]
3. Install ICS: Installing Ice-cream Sandwich 4.0.4 On Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000

[Q] Advice to unlock/Root GT-i9000 please

Hi all I've not done this before but not noob to the unlocking scene just first time for Android.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000
Firmware Version 2.3.5
Baseband Version I9000BVJV3
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-I9000BVJVC-CL679241 [email protected] #2
Build Number GINGERBREAD.BVJVC
What I'm looking to do is unlock it to allow me to use any network (currently orange).
after that I would then like to look at changing the rom or upgrading to the latest Rom's where able for SIII & S4. :victory:
I've spend a while reading other post so clearer than others but none that can help me as I'm having trouble finding the correct Kernel.
Please any and all help would be most appreciated.:cyclops:
plenty of unlock apps in the market

then follow this tutorial to root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637966
Update on advice
Hi thanks for posting advice.
I've managed to unlock the phone by using a combination of
Rooting it with Unlock Root via pc
That gave me Superuser (upgraded to pro for £2)
BusyBox Free, Titanium backup Free needed also
Then I was able to use Galaxy S Unlock to save files to sdcard and unlock to any network.:victory:
Now does this mean I'm rooted and don't have to follow all the steps that the link above advices
no need if already got busybox installed

Thanks for comments, can I ask now its rooted do I need to install anything else to allow me to change the Rom's such as newer official ones or once others are raving about.
Thanks.
updating or changing ROM was easy method but deadly also, wrong move will come to brick fone. if u really hav thought it well, juz follow any instruction on xda regarding i9000 after confirming ur device version, backed up baseband, build number n etc involve.
n now u ll need cwm for flashing. find cwm to gain access to recovery n thats where u gonna flash ur custom ROM, but read a lot before doing it as here in Q & A section, many success, also failure posted here, so be sure to read first mate

Congratulations on accomplishing your unlock. Now you might be helped with a good, rich toolbox and clear guides
I'm referring you to some wonderful threads I've come across during similar quests of my own.
(It's all there; but asking the right questions and not seeing the wood for the trees will always remain tricky )
So here are my top three suggestions for your toolbox, in order of importance and relevance. You might find some overlap among them.

As to what ROM to choose, I seriously like to push my own (eventual) ROM of choice, Mackay ROM (Unless gaming on the phone is your thing, which might bring up desires and demands that other ROMs serve even better.)
Good luck!
