[Q] CM10 Freezing - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys!
I recently upgraded from the latest CM9 Nightly to Jscullins 4.1.2 using clockwordmod....i also upgraded my GAPPS....
Whenever i boot up to CM10...it works fine for a minute and then freezes. The only way i can get it out of the freeze is by doing a Hard restart..
When I say "Freeze" i mean the touchscreen stops working...of it just freezes.
How do I fix this??!! Please Help!!
Thanks!

I don't know if it will work or not, but you can give the attached zip file a try.

Again, I don't know if it will work for not.
It's a fix for touch sensitivity issues.
Make a backup, just in case.
Edit : cm10 needs more room than CM9. Make a backup, then run acmeuninstaller. Use AcmeInstaller 3 to flash the CM10 rom along with the appropriate gapps. You might as well upgrade your moboot to 0.3.8 and and your cwm to 6.xxx. You can find these files in Goo.im, under developers and Jscullins. For cwm use the 12/15 one.
Once installed you can restore your apps using advanced restore in cwm (you want to restore the data only).
Good luck.

Ok...i noticed that it is actually a HEAVY LAG, rather then a freeze. I was able to go into the "Usage" Panel in settings and noticed that i have 148MB in "System" and around 20GB in 'SD Card". When I tried to exit...it froze and the screen turned off and it wouldn't turn back on...I do NOT want to do a complete restore....

Well then, I hope you have a backup.
You do need to use AcmeInstaller 3 to flash cm10, or you will keep running into problems.
Edit:make sure that the battery is fully charged before doing anything.
If the tablet remains unresponsive, you might have to use this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426244
If you do, you will have to do a complete restore.

Sensors not calibrated correctly

Hey guys,
This problem is here longer for me, I've already sent back my phone 2 times, and they won't resolve the issue.
My problem is that the accelerometer is not calibrated right. One side is ok, but in landscape mode it's calibrated horrible. For example, when I use the app 'Google Sky Map' holding the phone in portrait mode just works ok (the horizon is in a straight line). Switching to landscape makes it bad, the horizon is now from 1 corner into another corner...
As I said before, i've already returned it twice to HTC via the shop I bought it. They say I can calibrate it in the program settings. But that's the problem, in al lot of program's / games i cant. Also the plain android homescreen rotates irritating because of the bad callibration.
So, I googled about the issue and couldn't find any solution. But I did find some folder / file (akmd_set.txt) where the sensor info is stored. I have rooted my device, and am running the latest CyanogenMod on it. I already wiped, returned old (non root, stock) android versions on it, rooted again, flashed cyanogen. But none of this works....
Does anyone know a solution to calibrate my settings? Can I get that file, edit it on my PC and flash it back in maybe?
If yes, please explain me
Thanks in advance!
Don't take my word for gospel or anything but....
As far as I know, that file is auto-generated, meaning you can delete it and it will force the accelerometer to recalibrate itself.
I think Cyan's and RA's recoveries both have an option to "Wipe Rotate Settings" which I've done several times, so I know it's safe. Try this if you haven't already. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply, trying it out now.
Did the wipe rotation settings option I have to see if it worked, because none of my aps are working now.... they all have an plain android box icon and clicking on them says the app is not installed.
Yeah, i've got Apps2SD and the SD card is loaded, how to fix this? Then I can check if it worked with the Sky Map program.
Oh, and if not, how do I remove that file via terminal?
EDIT: Damn, can't get the apps to work again my whole phone seems broken now. I even can't install new apps :S
EDIT2: Just checked my SD card, it is still working good at my PC, but not in my phone. At once the phone can't read SD cards... Please, does somebody a solution?
It sounds like you wiped ext through recovery. Search on how to explore your sd card as root and see if your apps are there. You may need to reflash your rom unless you have a nandroid backup you can restore.

Nope I didn't do that, it was just a file in the CM Rom that was changed. The phone wasn't able to read the SD card, but the PC was and in recovery mode it could read it too... So I just flashed the CM Mod again and it's working now.
Problem is, my sensors still don't work Please does anyone has a solution, or a how-to on how to change the file?
Sorry you're having so much trouble with this, but it's beyond my scope of knowledge at this point. Hopefully someone else can check it out. If the Cyanogen IRC channel is still around you might be able to find help there.

[Q] Rooted Nook boot-loop troubles

Hi,
I've run into a boot-loop problem with my rooted nook color.
It was working fine before, but i turned it off today and connected it to a charger.
Suddenly i noticed it started booting up but the boot stopped at the Nook Color devs screen. It keeps looping on that screen till halfway the word color (in rainbow colors)
I haven't done any updates or anything, it just started doing that.
Is there a way of doing a reset WITHOUT having to go through a factory reset ?
Of course, being the *ss i am, i forgot making a backup, so i would prefer not to lose data and stuff on the nook.
As i recall, i rooted the Nook Color with CMW 3.0.2.8 and Manual Nooter 4.5.18.
Any help would be appreciated
Kind regards,
Jeroen
Take the rom you prevously used to flash...wipe cache and dalvic only....the reflash it..if you are running cm it should be okay....if stock..I do not know...
Tanks God =) Somebody with the same issue.

I have the same problem...
I searched all the internet the solution for this issue... dont founded yet...
(sorry about my bad english... I speak portuguese...)
I had the same problem, ended up having to go back to stock (using cwm) and then re rooting. Since I already had everything on the sd card, i redownloaded the apps I wanted after rooting and the whole proces only took about 20 minutes. I've since downloaded titanium backup in case it happens again so I can skip that last step and it should only take about 10 minutes to get everything back.
Just an FYI I bootlooped by updating Adobe Flash Player through the market. Looks like the stock ROM either depends on its certain version of Flash our has a special version just for the Nook.

The problem with all version of MN prior to 4.5.25, is that they run the risk of Adobe Flash auto-updating themselves. You have to manually go into the Market and un-check the auto-update box. When flash updates itself, it causes the boot-loop when the device reboots.
You can try this fix, download the attached file, and flash it with CWM. The file should delete the adobe flash files, and then install Flash 10.3. This should fix the boot-loop, and keep your current file system without having to reset. If the fix works, and the device boots up, then make sure that you go into the Market, and uncheck the auto-update for flash.
If you have any problems understanding my English, let me know and I can try to reword it for you.

[Q] CM 7.1 with all the goodies

I'm having a problem installing CM 7.1 and all the speed/memory tweaks. Ive used MANY different roms with alot of tweaks but this one i driving me crazy. Im trying to install CM 7.1 in CWR 2.5.0.7 with the following tweaks...Firerats 1.5.9 auto patcher and KERN 2.6.35.14-10sept-v1 .....the problem is that i can not get it to boot!!!! if i dont install firerats the rom doesnt boot and goes back to CWR...if i do install firerats the screen just hangs on the htc logo...but without the tweaks CM7.1 boots fine
Please help!!
I did the following with success (this is from memory, hopefully I don't miss anything), I'm using firerats 1.5.8. I did not use a single fr patcher.
First, I flashed the firerats REMOVE zip, just to make sure I was really starting over. then flashed the latest CWM unofficial recovery...5.0.2.6.
rebooted to recovery after each step above though, and repeated wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache.
for firerats, had the mdpartmap settings at 125, 20 (just being extra cautious there, I'm seeing some lower numbers bandied about).
Anyway, from the pretty blue recovery screen, I then flashed fr-recovery, (I think it tells you to reboot to recovery again when done, possibly wiping again, anyway, it tells you) then flashed cm 7.1, gapps, kernal, and finally, fr-boot.
Seems I've heard of folks having some difficulty if they don't use a newer recovery, perhaps others can chime in on this.
After some initial settling in and reboots (it was a little hot at first, a few things were a little flakey), everything seems to be running great. I've only had it on here a few days, and I have not tweaked any performance settings, but so far, gps has been rock solid (isn't this ALWAYS a sticky point for some?) and runkeeper has stopped being so crash happy. Need to see how these things behave with age. A clean installation fixes a lot of things for awhile.
Okay, fired up gps status app, and boom, reboot. But like I said, haven't tweaked any performance settings, left everything at defaults. Will tinker eventually.
wow!!! thank you so much for the very fast reply. I am at work at the minute but i am going to try this ASAP!! Thanks again.
I will keep you informed as to how this worked out. Looks like it should work though
Ok thats awesome!! i got it all to work but i can not get android market to work. I just get FC everytime.
Is there a fix for this?

Hmm, not sure, did you use the gapps from the OP for CM7.1? Could try redownloading that and flashing it again.
also, what were your firerat settings in the partmap file? Just checking, in case you didn't use mine, which were generous, as I said.
That rather larger second number in the partmap file resolves a lot of market issues, I never have to apply any "market fixes"
My fault. I used 125 2 in the mtd instead of 125 20....worked great!!! now i can use the market...thank you so much!!! just have ooooooonnnneeeeee other small problem.
Now by busybox wont work. Keep saying no root access when obviously i do...and also i can not fix permissions in rom manager..theres always a problem eh.
Hope you can help...you've been great so far!!! got loads more internal space now
Hrm...I have to admit to never using busybox, at least not directly, I usually just install it if asked when I install/update Titanium Backup (after checking the allow unknown sources in applications settings). Are you trying to execute busybox from terminal or something? Apologies if you tried this but if you have Titanium (you should if you don't), then do this:
Go to titanium backup, go to problems then it will install busybox
I just cut and pasted that from ... somewhere.

touchpad wifi fix issue

ran into an issue flashing fix located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23286933&postcount=61 that made my cm 7 go into a loop of rebooting. Help - is there a fix that I can apply?
The fix you're referring to dates back to March, things have come on a long way since then . Why don't you make a backup of your current rom and try the latest nightly you will probably be pleasantly surprised.
I'm surprised anyone is still using CM7. I second the suggestion of using the latest CM9 Nightly.

Yeah new to this, it's that my tp worked great since the cm 7 install I never had a problem until the last 2 months, so I found that update. Where do I find the nightly updates and do I have to start at a certain one or just do the latest?
Thanks!!!

I read that the touch screen didn't work well and really liked the cm 7 but lately it's been acting up and I haven't done any updates to it. That's what really surprised me. If I go to cm 9 will I loose all my programs?

The latest nightlies can be found here:

I'm not sure if there are certain steps you have to follow from going from CM7 to CM9 since when I got my TP, I went straight to CM9. But I think you can just download the latest ICS google apps file (gapps) and the latest nightly and then in clockwork recovery, do a data wipe/factory reset, wipe cahce and wipe dalvik cache. Then flash the nightly then the gapps. You should be fine.

I havent heard anything about the touch screen not working well. It works fine for me. And yes, you will lose your apps since you need to do a factory reset. But use Titanium backup to backup your apps. Then when you get on cm9, restore them. Just dont backup and restore system data. Apps and app data ONLY.
Ok after combing through this site there is alot I mean alot of updates after installing cm9. Is there a latest and greatest install walk through out any where? Also how or where do you get the nightly updates or is there an app that grabs them?
Thanks everyone, since I can't boot I might as well go to cm9.

Thanks, I wil give this a try tomorrow, getting to late to start in this now.
Thanks again!!
stayed up and took a crack at it. followed instructions to a T except did the ACMEUninstaller first. Then rebooted and then did the ACMEInstaller. But I still get the loop, it goes into cyanogen Loading... then shutsdown and reboots to the menu. Am I supposed to delete anything after the ACMEUninstaller before I run the ACMEInstaller?
Was there a Base CM 9 that I am supposed to have installed before I install any of the nightly builds....?
Also if I run the Nightly do I have to perform any tasks first or just go and run zip file from SD?
Thanks
UPDATE - copied update- nightly from notes above and ran install from zip from SD and got it going. Nice, really like the new look. I still need to know how to safely backup apps and data for future nightly updates (step by step please) because I have a few days of work ahead of me to get this back to my configuration.
PS - Has anyone tried True Image or Ghost to create a backup image of the SD and if so does it work when it's restored?
Thanks again!!!!!

No base, you can start directly from the latest nightly which is 0909
"Step by step please", if you need to make that statement you honestly need to do quite a bit more reading, and I say that in all kindness to keep you from having trouble with your device
There are a MULTITUDE of apps, both free and paid to back up all your apps and info
As far as backing up the contents of the internal SD, I tried everything out there and then came back to tried and true command line, look up a command line operation called robocopy... what you do is boot into recovery and mount the USB storage. Then there are several commands you can issue to copy files from your inner SD to your computer but the one I use is /mir, which replicates the contents EXACTLY, even hidden files, but like I said look up the wiki page on robocopy for more details
Have fun with the CM9 and get ready for CM10 hopefully not too far in the future, and do plenty of relaxed reading
One bug I am having. The nightly I was told was the update-cm-9-20120815-NIGHTLY-tenderloin.zip works fine but when I run the newest update-cm-9-20120909-NIGHTLY-tenderloin.zip it stops and states bad file. Then it wont boot into CM9. So i run the update-cm-9-20120815-NIGHTLY-tenderloin.zip once again from install from zip and it boots. I can extract the update-cm-9-20120909-NIGHTLY-tenderloin.zip and see all the files while its on the TP SD card. So is there a step I am missing when installing from zip to the latest and greatest Nightly?
Thanks
PS - This has happened on two different HP TP's I have.

By any chance your extreme lag also affects the audio performances? I and a friend of mine had in the same period (for 2 weeks) EXTREME lag, signal lost on mobile network. The lag was so powerful that even music was interrupted. The only way to get rid of this was rebooting the tablet.
The most awkward part is that the bug persisted over ANY KIND OF ROM/KERNEL. Even the official one from Google Developers (any android version).
Best part: It was fixed by itself. Lags started to be increasingly rare and at some point they stopped.
I tried to catch some logs...at the moment of failure, just once they pointed me to some lines in the source code...so I quit trying to figure it out what happens..
I had the same problem, I solved it installing SlimKat, but probably you can solve it with any custom rom, I tried many times to restore 4.4.2 but always the same, only installing custom roms seem to solve it...
I remember it, is like a nightmare to me, turn the tablet On and let it 5 minutes before open any app, open Google Play and see how it lags, installing apps always causing freezing... It remembers me my Windows XP years...
At the beginning i let it thinking it will solve itself, haha, after months I was about to broke it with a stone

If you want to keep the official rom you can just try to reflash 4.4.2 wiping everything, just copy to PC the files you want to keep and after flashing copy again to tablet, i would recommend you to copy only important data, not everything, and specially not copy the folders with strange names that you dont know what they are

Before flashing anything try to restore the tablet, copy all your stuff to PC and format it by going to settings / backup and reset / factory data reset and checking to wipe all on internal memory/sdcard
It will wipe all your data, apps and everything, so be sure that you dont forget anything to be copied to pc.
Maybe it solve the problem without flashing
About root and flashing:
You dont need it, but you can root it if you want after flashing,
I dont know how much you know about flashing and all that, so Im gonna make you an quickly tutorial
Basically all you need is:
Nexus root toolkit from here: www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
4.4.2 firmware (can be downloaded directly from the Nexus Root Toolkit)
And be sure that you have copied to PC everything you dont want to be deleted, you can just copy all to PC and after flashing copy to tablet only what you want...
On tablet turn on USB debugging, on developer options (To unlock it go to settings /about tablet /build number and click it many times until it says "you are now a developer", then go back and you will see it)
When its done follow the Nexus Root Toolkit instructions to "flash stock + unroot" (by clicking a button with that text) you should select Android 4.4.2 (KOT49H) and check the option "automatically download"(dont remember what the option says exactly)
And the tool will download it and tell you when you have to do something. Just dont disconnect the tablet until the tool ends its job
Maybe you should install some drivers if you get an error message like "device not found"
If you want to know more about insalling drivers, you get any problem or something else just tell me, but maybe im gonna make you wait because tomorrow is my birthday and I wont be checking it for few hours.

Ya the tablet is extremely slow, and freezes sometimes for some seconds!
What do you mean with "rebooting the tablet"? Factory Reset on the original recovery menu?
Thanks.

No...just a simple restart. As I stated, I tried different resets and flashes and everything and nothing worked...

Be careful about "Returning to stock" method as I think Google broke their "flash-all.bat" from the arcvive of Android 4.4. Flash every file by your hand. I used that idiotic flash-all on any android version, but on 4.4 it completely broke my motherboard by flashing wrong boot.img.

Okay, I was no sure that you also format "SD card" factory reset do not delete user data/sd card on some devices and Im not sure if in N7 you have to check the option

If thats true then try to flash 4.3 and install 4.4.2 by OTA, just select 4.3 instead 4.4.2 when you are about to flashing
Ok,
I flashed the nexus 7 2012 directly to the factory 4.4.2 using the nexus root toolkit, and everything is working fine without problems, at least for now.
The tablet isn't giving exchange errors, and doesn't hang everytime, but I only used it for some minutes, lets see how it works after some days/intensive usage.
Anyway, as I said, I flashed to 4.4.2 directly using the toolkit, and it worked without any problem
Thank You!
