[Q] general questions (recovery,rooting) - LG Optimus 4X HD

I have not have any smartphone yet and I'm going to buy LG 4x HD and I have some questions below :
Is it possible to make an image disk for a smartphone (as same as the one there is for pc) (or a recovery partition) for when I want to roll back all my changes to the phone ?
this must be done through my pc when the cell is connected to it or sth else ?
what do these words mean when you use them for smartphones ?
"root" , "ROM" , "boot loader"

[Q] Video tutorials for upgrading from donut to eclair and rooting the phone?

Hi guys,
First of all I want to tell you guys that I dont have any knowledge in using android OS. So it would be very kind of you if you guys can provide a video tutorial of upgrading the android 1.6 to 2.1 and rooting it.
I am familiar with flashing and customizing windows mobile but I know android is entirely different from that. I hope someone can provide the video tutorial.
Thanks and regards,
Bobby Thomas.
I dont think theres a video out there, tho theres alot of guides around, trust me its really easy rookies do it without ant problems u just need to fallow every step.

tada.
Thank you guys...
First of all I want to thank DonPanda for the nice video, I also want to thank jealumalai111462, m4nu4l for there valuable suggestions. And most importantly I'm expecting a video tutorial from one of our senior members flyboyovyick.
Regarding the DonPanda's video, I didn't clearly understand the KDZ updater program part as the program was in russian, and also the rooting part. It will be very helpful if you can provide a close up of the various task that we will need to do in the "handset". I couldn't follow anything that you did with the mobile.(I'm sorry to tell you that I am so dumb in android.) And thank you guys for the nice support.
More over I just want to know whether flashing custom ROM can brick the phone? What all steps should I be careful in that case?
Thanks and Regards,
Bobby Thomas.

First u have to download the ROM u want to install. The ending of the file is .KDZ like an *.exe but.. ye... .kdz
After u download the .kdz file, put it in a folder where ever u want. Start the Windowsenabler.exe from the .zip-file in that thread.
Second start the KDZ_FW_UPD.exe and choose the in step 1 downloaded .kdz file during pressing the "folder open" button.
After u did this, and ur phone has "Debugging mode" active (Settings -> Applications -> development -> USB Debugging [Check]), pres the field with the many "??? ? ? ? ????? ?????" twice.
The .kdz (ROM) extract itself and install ur costumrom on ur device.

After the new 2.1 Android is installed, reboot ur phone, reset usersettings to fabric standard (Settings -> Privacy -> reset bla).
Download This file, extract to anywhere, connect ur phone via debug and start the "root.bat" file.
Ur phone restarts shortly and vuala, ur device is rooted.

Well, there is everytime a basic risk while flashing ur device. No one can say "ye, it will work for u" or "no, please don't do it!"
Normally the public product works on every Smartphone. As i said - normally.
In percent under 3 %, but... 3 % is much.

[Q] Guide to backup original .img?

I am new to the Dell streak7 (infact it is currently in the post on its way to me) and yes I'm a Noob to the forum too, I have had several JB'd iPhones but fancied a change from the Apple (and a bigger screen too ) I was swayed by reading up on the spec of the Streak 7 (and the price when compared to the Xoom) and then seeing all of the underground development by DJ_Steve and others on this Forum, well, it just signed and sealed it for me really...
....Anyway, the device will be a brand spanking new Wifi only model and from what I can gather there is no backup currently available for this device, I have read in the Dev forum that someone actually managed to re-install their original .img from the wifi device, I was wondering how I go about firstly copying these files and then restoring them (should the need arise) IE: best software to use and method to apply? Or would there be a better way to backup/restore?
Thanks in advance,
ATB
Mark
Edit: Sorry this should of been marked as a question, sorry, my bad!
Sorted....I Found Stock WiFi NVFlash download link inside another thread!
Here is the thread link incase anyone else ever needs it:

You're at the right place but doing the wrong thing.
1. google "how to unlock htc bootloader" (It's all through HTC, no need to find any software here)
2. search this sub page (Sprint HTC One) for "root" or "root method"
3. search this sub page (Sprint HTC One) for "s-off"
4. search this sub page (Sprint HTC One) for "unlock gsm"
People will be much more inclined to help you if it looks like you put some effort into it. (It doesn't)
If you run into a problem, then would be the time to ask lots of questions - not before you even have a chance to have one - or when the problem is: "I'm too lazy to search so please search for me".
sorry 4 bein rush..i know how 2 use google properly but i like things posted at this forum cos i trust this gorgeous forum..thnx 4 ur reponse.

[Q] where is com.android.hiddenmenu on G800F?

Hi!
I red online some information about "com.android.hiddenmenu" and i tried to follow, for example, this tutorial ( w w w . groovypost . com/howto/howto/access-hidden-menu-android-phone/ ) in order to understandif the smartphone i am holding is new or refurbished but i cannot find that "com.android.hiddenmenu" acitivity.
I also tried to use, on the phone dialer, the key combinations that should trigger the android hidden menu but nothing happens .... anyone knows why? Maybe in android 4.4 and higher did this feature has been canceled? Or maybe it is no more accesible by the user?
Thanks in advance to anyone that will try to answer my questions.
What exactly do you want to do? I've found RTN inside Service Mode activity (see attached image) but I cannot open it, say something like Permission Denied (I don't have root enabled).
Most codes from this page work for me (stock Lollipop):

I don't think you need special codes, probably an app like this one will get you the answer:

Well, online it is sad that dialer code like ##786# and *#*#786#*#* should make the RTN screen appear. I tried these codes both on the samsung galaxy s5 mini (android 4.4) but also on an old sony xperia mini pro (android 4.0) butno one works.
Thanks for pointing out the existence of that android app. I already knew it and it is really usefull. It allows the user to get really a lot of usefull information. But it seems that something is missing ... for example "life timer/calls" , "life byte" , "activation date".
I followed the screenshot that lfom has posted.
com.android.hiddenmenu is not where the two tutorials i have linked before are saying it is.
Under the "Service mode" i can find "RTN" which is described as "com.sec.android.app.servicemodeapp.RTN_View".
However if i try to open this android activity i get a message "application not installed on the phone".
I am running android 4.4 on a full stock non-rooted s5mini G800F.
Anyone has some sugestion?
