please help to load a cooked rom in a i9000.. we - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hi all,i read a lot in these forums about the procedure to put a cooked rom in a samsung i9000,so the exact work that i did was:
1) root the i9000
2) from the market i bought rom manager premium 5.5.2.3
3)installed clockworkmod 3.2.0.0
4)holded vol up + home button + power on and booted in clockworkmod mode
5) i looked for the cooked rom i put on the external sd drive....
.....BUT when i look for it the phone doesnt see the external sd so im stuck here i cant load the cooked rom cause i cant see the external sd,perhaps i dont follow all the steps?????
please give me some help here im stuck since 4 days now!
P.S: the sd card works fine,im sure about it and the firmware version of the phone is 2.2.1 file is I9000XXJVE
thanks a lot

recovery mode
connect to pc
mount "internal sd" as usb storage
copy rom/zip/files

you cant install a rom from external sd on cwm 3.x or below so dowload this
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0ndlAeElddhbDRmb0JvWTNmRlk/edit?usp=drive_web
extract it on internal sd then go to install zip from sd card aroma fm/ tmp/and theres a zip install the zip and it will open a file manager and then copy ur rom from externel to internel enjoy!!! also u cant install cwm from rom manager on our phone due to the recovery layout...

thanks guys but i dont follow your help!
i downloaded aroma.zip installed in the internal memory of the phone launched it from the recovery menu but this sw is all mess up and i cant work with it!
i would like to know if i can install cooked rom from the internal memory of the phone,i guess not cause if i do so the phone will just hang up cause i can share the rom and the installation space right?
since im quite sure i cant use the internal memory of the phone i can only use the external sd card to install the cooked rom but it looks like u are telling me that i have no hopes to use the external sd card to install the rom so....what am i supposed to do?i cant use the internal memory,i cant use the external sd card so....what am i supposed to use???????????????????????????
thanks again!

I am not even sure why you made the assumption that you can't use the internal memory in the first place. The internal SD as it is sometimes referred to is separate from the OS. Case in point, factory restoring your phone will not wipe your internal memory.
So just use the internal memory.

[Q] Power Button broken - can I still upgrade to a larger SD card?

Hey guys,
So I have a Nexus One with a power button that doesn't work (so I use the volume button now instead). I was able to root the phone though, and I downloaded ROM Manager and was able to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
My understanding is that I should be able to use ROM Manager to install new ROMs, but I also want to upgrade my SD card storage from 4GB to 8GB. From what I've found, it sounds like it takes some formatting and partitioning of the SD card and requires booting into Recovery mode by holding down the Power Button and the Volume Up key - problem is, as you know, that my power button doesn't work.
Is there any way for me to upgrade my SD card that doesn't involve using the power button? I know that ROM Manager has the option to boot into recovery mode, but that brings me to a screen with a triangle, with an exclamation mark and a green Android, and nothing happens. Same thing when I try to use QuickBoot to boot into recovery mode.
I tried looking around to see if there was a thread that would answer my question, but couldn't find one so I'm starting a new thread. If there is a thread that answers this, my apologies - please point me to it.
I hope I was able to provide enough information. Hopefully I'm not S.O.L, and I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks!
It's not necessary to partition SD card unless you flash sense roms or u want to use dt script or s2e to move data to sdext.so you can change your sd card.
I think you should try to flash recovery Again through ROM manager or terminal (try to flash alternate recovery through ROM manager too )

Thanks amolji, you said a few things that I don't quite get since I haven't had to deal with them (dt script, s2e, sdext, etc).
So would I be ok with just a copy and paste of data from the old SD card to the new one? I should point out that I've moved over quite a few apps to my SD card, so if I do decide to copy/paste data to the new SD card, will the apps that are on the SD card launch properly once I've copied them over?

You should be OK. I went from a 4GB to a 16GB card.
-copy content of old sd card to PC
-format new sd card (might not be necessary but I format all new sd card)
-copy contents from PC to new sd card

[Q] Is it possible to install a custom rom (e.g ROCKET ROM) without a SD card?

Sorry for a real n00b question but is it possible to install a custom rom (e.g. ROCKET ROM) on my Galaxy Note without a SD Card?
If it is, can someone please provide me with a link to a how-to/step-by-step explanation?`
Many thanks in advance!!
I think no unless you use Odin software and plug your phone to the computer while in download mode. Although roms for Odin and CWM are in different formats and not compatible with each other.
However, I heard that if you flash third party (non-stock) firmware to your phone using Odin, it will add to the flash counts, which will make your phone lose warranty (if your Note even have warranty when you imported it).
Maybe there is a way to do update through adb, but I do not know.
Also I forgot, you can install rom from internal storage using CWM Manager app.
You can use the phone's internal memory to store the ROM to be flashed. Don't really need to put it on the microSD card. Make sure you are rooted and have clockwork installed.

I'm already rooted and have CWM Manager 3.0 installed.
I also did a backup yesterday (I will do a new backup before flashing), but since the backup is on the internal memory, can I restore to the original stock rom if I don't like the ROCKET ROM for some reason?
Or will the internal memory be wiped clean if I flash the ROCKET ROM to my Galaxy Note?
Many thanks for the help!
That's fine, and you don't need to worry about internal storage being wiped. Your 16GB (or 32GB) shows up in the system as SD card. If you add a physical microSD card that will be listed as external SD. A bit confusing I know, but that 16/32GB is partitioned separately from the phones main memory (~2GB). When you flash a ROM its only the 2GB partition that gets overwritten, nothing happens to your SD card and external SD card memory.

Strange Sd card problem

Whenever i Install an gingerbread or cm7 Rom 2.3.7 on my x8,
after it the sd card in the phone is protected against writing, only reading.
The phone dont see the SD card anymore , and on my pc it see the card in my cardreader but i cant copy and paste things from it.
When i directly connect the phone with the sd card in it to my pc via usb, the pc dont see the sd card also.
Then when i flash back to the original Rom, the SD card is back normal like writing and reading and my phone sees the card.
Also i can Copy and paste like normal.
When i flash to froyo pro 24 (2.2.9 android) the phone also see the card like normal.
Looks to me something in 2.3 android versions mess with my SD card and set it on read only...
Does someone know what this could be?
Thnx in advance,
Henk
what sd card do you have? did you try format it?
It is the standard 4gb card that was in the box from the x8.
I install the roms via this sdcard.
I also formatted it but that did not solve the problem.
there is no ''lock''on the card, and after i flash it back to the original stock rom with flashtool it shows the card with no write or read protection.
In android 1.6 ,2.1 and 2.2 till version 2.2.9 i dont have the sd card issues.
I checked mini cm shakira,
herodroid
gx stock
prime hd and 2 other roms based on android 2.3.
Some i reinstalled and full wiped after the installation but that made no difference.
(offcourse i always full wipe/factory before installing the Roms )
In''storage settings it always say:
-total space
unavailable
-Available space
unavailable
-mount Sd card
Insert a sd card for mounting
-erase Sd card
erases all data on the phone Sd card such as music and photos.
(This is the only option that is highlighted and usable, and it erases only files when i tested it, it dont format the card)
I also tried to unlock the read only protection to place the mini sd card in the cardreader but i can't find an option to unlock that protection.
It only shows the files on the card but i cant copy and paste something.
(Both in windows7 and windows xp)
Some of them are on Stock kernel and the mini cm7 on an naa kernel.
(problem with the naa kernel was that i could not update the fix after flashing the rom in xrecovery,
since right after the flash from my sd card to mm7 my sdcard was on read only and write protected........had to reinstall the stock version by flashtool again and install xrecovery again and busybox, rooting, to start after with the flashing of custom roms again.
All of them did something with the sd card that it is read only when i place it in my sd card reader on pc ,and its not visible on the phone.
With some roms i can access the sd card via cwm or xrecovery to flash an rom zip but sometimes it says it cant mount''e'',
which is my sd card.
After i flashed my phone back to stock rom via flashtool, the sd card is visible again on the phone and not read or write protected.
Also on froyo pro 24(android 2.2) i dont have this sd card problem.
Could it be that there is some kind of driver for my sd card so that my phone reconize the sd card?
I really don't know what this issue could be and im stucked on 2.2 now.
you're using 2nd ext partition?
if yes, trying to solve it and boot via cwm and format it using partition sdcard (advance > partition sdcard) you need to backup your data first
if not using 2nd ext partition, try format using this http://hard-disk-low-level-format-tool.software.informer.com/ but i'm not test it yet
maybe u must check and repair your sdcard
1. try with another sdcard
2. make sure if your sdcard format is FAT
or
3. backup your sdcard data to your pc, then format it!
it must be work
Your idea doesnt work

Maybe the ROM doesnt have the necessary drivers. Any idea on how to install them?
Go to following directory via a root explorer app:
Root/system /bin
Find this file:
Fsck_msdos
Delete & Replace with froyopro's disk checker.(same file in froyopro rom)
Yes,this is the file which scan & fix ur sdcard For errors in startup.
This must help u.

[Q] [SOLVED] Flashing rom from Internal SD

Hi guys, I have the following issue. I installed a SD card but when plug-in it to my computer only the internal SD would show ( I was expecting both ), then I went to Storage on the phone and it was showing there, so I chose format in case that cuold help but now it's gone from there too
Anyway, since I can't seem to fix that for now, can I copy a rom into the internal SD and flash it? I don't know if CWM will be able to search there or if a certain wipe will format my internal SD.
Help would'be much appreciated.
recent versions of CWM have an option in the zip-flashing menu for flashing from internal storage.
I created a folder named CM in th internal sd and flash everything from there. Just remember the folder and you can moce item with root broswer or directly download there. In my case /mnt/sdcard/cm
