At the risk of being shot down in flames. What is the best way for going from 9.1.A.0.490 to 9.1.A.1.140 whilst retaining root etc?
I've got a std UK Xperia T, unlocked bootloader and generic european .490 and rooted.
Im looking for a basic step by step if possible, as I dont play around with the phone much. I managed to stuff up going to .490 which put me in a boot loop until I got it sorted. I prefer to avoid that scenario again if at all possible!
Thanks in advance
Update the official way via pccompanion and then rout again the same way you routed last time, probably by using bin4rys root many android method

No, In which case just flash .140 rom from the development section (My rom for example) but make sure it the right one for your phone, and flash it in recovery
Or just grab a FTF file of .140 and flash that in flashtool and then root like you did last time

Hi there
Just jumping on the "how can I update?" bandwagon, can I flash the Generic Central European fw onto my T? I am unrooted and have locked a bootloader. I'm in the UK and on EE. I have read the 1st post in the section saying this is fine to do, but I've also read an article on another website telling me that flashtool is only for unlocked bootloaders. Please can you advise?
You can flash using Flashtool with a locked bootloader and while unrooted.

Pccompanion = Only works on locked bootloader
Official Sony Flashtool (EMMA) = Only works on unlocked bootloader
Flashtool by Androxde and Bin4ry = Works on all devicex
Gave up after managing to get stuck on the sony logo.
Relocked bootloader, updated via SUS, unlocked bootloader and then rooted using bin4ry's method.

Is it possible to root on this version (.307)??
I need root >_<...
Root is not a "need", but a "want", and the answer to your question is probably not. Just unlock your bootloader, flash a kernel with recovery then flash superuser.
I´m not able to flash it.
Flashtool says "Device connected in flash mode" and that's it.
Other Firmware are working, any idea?
Did you update flashtool to the latest version? Only 0.9.11.0 works for Xperia Tablet Z iirc.
EDIT: 0.9.11.0 flashes fine for my XTZ on OSX.
Tried it and installed, thank you!

Hey,
works great thanks, I don't have the DoCoMo crap anymore
I have the LTE 32GB version, is there anyway I can resize the partition or I need to wait for a 32gb version you think?
Thanks again

Not by flashing via flashtool. You may be able to resize partitions using adb shell or something like that, but that's highly dangerous and untested. There is no 32GB LTE version of the XTZ for worldwide though, so you may be stuck with only 16GB of storage.

So ill need to find a ftf download first :/
Wish there were just a partition resize app lol
I lost root and custom recovery after flashing this. But this update brings about the wonderful update to the touch screen which makes the tablet so much more easy to use.
Hopefully, someone will create custom recovery and root for this later.

No FTF file can be modified. It will not unlock your bootloader, nor will it do any dastardly things to your tablet other than update it.

Simple, no
Don't accept any OTA firmware if you unlocked bootloader
You can update firmware via flashtool by downloading stock FTF firmware

Very good advice. Don't do OTA
If there is no ftf posted you can make one
Use PCCompanion and use the "repair" option. It will download the necessary files to flash your phone but will fail to flash because if your unlocked bootloader.
Then use flashtool to make the ftf from the downloaded files which ou can then flash in flashtool
the instructions on how to do this are in the all in one thread

Hello!
I have searched various places about rooting my SP. I am about to root my SP, it was newly bought (2 months old) so it would be better if the TA Partition is backed up. After inspecting several articles and stuffs, I was advised to back up my TA Partition before attempting to root my phone.
As of 12.1.A.0.266 update, rooting requires unlocking the bootloader. Which doesn't follow the rule to back up the TA Partition. As one may know, a phone must be rooted in order to back up the TA partition but at the same time, such bootloader must not be unlocked
I've searched everywhere I can, however I can't find any solution. Forgive me if there are any articles or thread created regarding the same topic.
Any immediate help would be extremely appreciated.
The phone is running latest stock firmware and had no customisations so far.

flashing ftf won't require unlocked bootloader isn't it? I do thought of downgrading then root and then backup such TA partition.
No it wont.
For the Sony features like Bravia Engine etc you need the TA partition. Flashtool will (or should) work without the TA partition. It will only tell you that your bootloader is unlocked
I was in the exactly the same position as you few days ago when I decided to customize my Xperia SP
Here is what I have done...
I was on the latest .266 OTA updated FW and then ... ...
I downloaded and flashed with Flashtool "Xperia SP (C5303)_12.0.A.2.254_Generic_DE.with_loader.sin.ftf"
Then flash XperiaSP_C530X_12.0.A.1.257_KernelOnly.ftf
Now you can use DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip
and then flash back XperiaSP_C530X_12.0.A.2.254_KernelOnly.ftf for your current FW
Now that you have rooted your phone you can use Backup-TA-9.10 tool to backup your TA partition and save your precious DRM keys
And when you have your TA partition backup safely archived somewhere
you can go to Sony site to request code for unlocking bootloader.
When your bootloader is unlocked use FASTBOOT to flash any kernel that have custom recovery
(like Nayak03 or DoomLord's V05 or DoomLord's advanced STD .266)
and then when you have custom recovery you can install pretty much everything you find around here.
If you need more details or want me to put links to threads and files I've looked and download just say... :cyclops:

Yes I do would like some links on downloading those stuff except Flashtool, I did have it already. If you don't mind posting them..
By the way, since I see that .266 FWs have different versions for each region on this world respectively, may I know how to get one that is international or south-east asia specific?

8 reboot to recovery while presing VOL+ key when lightshow starts and install CustomROM of your choice which you downloaded previously and put it on your microSD card.

Is your Z1 a UK unbranded one? Uk unbranded seem to be always the last one to get updates. You could back up your phone then perform a repair. Doing repair may wipe your phone so consider before doing it. BTW you have posted in Q&A section. Please move to Q&A Moderators many thanks

This is incorrect.
If you have root you can still update via PCCompanion or SUS, but you will lose root.
If you have an unlocked bootloader then you cannot use official tools such as PCCompanions or SUS, you can only use EMMA (Official tool from Sony for unlocked bootloaders)

You will be able to use PCCompanion once the update becomes available for you, they are not all released at the same time, it can roll out over a month or two.
In the meantime, you can flash a FTF using flashtool from flashtool.net and there is no need for root. It is just a repackage of an official download and made avaialable for all.
Find them in the FTF mega collection thread.... Use the search button.

hi guys, need help here
since there is now a safe way to root 4.4 on Xperia Z, i am thinking on updating it and give it a try
however, due to the unlocked bootloader, i can no update the firmware ofcoz
so i've been doing a bit of research, but at the moment very confused
just hope if anyone can point me the right direction plz
from my understanding, using the newest Flashtool, i can relock the bootloader using this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...bootloader-t2153261/post38124976#post38124976
how ever, DooMLoRD also states that
1. DO NOT USE ANY FTF TO RELOCK BOOTLOADER! THOSE OLD FTFs DO NOT WORK FOR THE 2013 DEVICES!!!
2. be on pure stock kernel (flash only the kernel.sin using flashtool)
i am guessing what DooMLoRD is saying is that
all i have to do is simply flash the KERNEL.ELF file, and nothing else
before i start with the relocking procedure?
with in the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/help/flash-stock-kernel-relock-bootloader-t2748769
