There's a Q/A, Help section, post questions there.
I don't know if this is possible. I think hardware is limited at 30fps:
https://developer.qualcomm.com/mobile-development/development-devices/snapdragon-s4-pro-apq8064-mdpt
I can't find official hardware camera specs, sorry. But maybe with a lower resolution and a custom kernel it is possible, isn't it?
Someone who knows much about this can answer us. I'm interesting in it too
Thank you!!!
(Sorry for my bad english)
Any progress? it'd be a great feature.....
Any possibility to have slow motion?

Yeah.. I See all the thread inside the XDA, but it Seem Time Shift Video is unable to run greatly on Our Beloved XZ that can Take A Smooth Slow Mo video 120fps like XZ2 was, i do everything for what their said.. Root, Odex, Superuser Mod, But it useless.. Please someone, anything that might help.. the only thing that might help for now is install Xperia Z2 Movie Creator that can Make slow mo but not good as Time Shift Video was.. Have A Try Guys.. Search it on any thread.. I hope it would help..:good::good::good::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
i think u can
The Snapdragon S4 Pro is not capable of capturing 720p video at 120fps, therefore timeshift video is not possible.

Moto x have Snapdragon S4 Pro(dual-core) and it have slowmotion...
on xperia Z it could be even vga 120fps, dont care to much about res.
Beside its hilarious that old LG Viewty from 2007 have this and flagship from 2013 dont have it...
Yeahh.. What ashamed..

Moto X uses the same CPU as Xperia SP, but SP lacks slow motion recording too. I guess XZ's CPU is powerful enough to capture 120FPS at least in VGA resolution. But may be Sony do not want to put that because their latest flagships need more selling.
Who wants videos captured in 640*480 any more? It would cause more complaints that it was locked at such a low resolution than it's worth for Sony to provide the feature.

da what?
so what if it would be VGA? its still something, beside its not like you record Oscar movies using your phone... probably most of videos recorded using phone is party, fun with friends, or random events with crappy lighting. I can assure you that no matter what res you would use quality is still crappy, blurred(motion) and similar to VGA on 5" screen.
Most of my movies that I have on my phone is 720x400 and thx to good bitrate its look perfect on my xperia z.
Beside I can show you images taken using old SE k750i that would blow most of new cameras on phones. BECAUSE ALL DEPEND ON USER, I can shoot you good looking image using even pencil and some a$$ with DSLR for 3000$ would take selfi in McDonald.
VGA is still better than nothing.
Maybe to you it is better than nothing. The rest of us like our videos to look bigger than a postage stamp or not look like everything is made of Lego on other devices though.
Anyway, I was and am still mainly joking about the resolution, but my point was that I highly doubt they will bother to provide timeshift video if they have to lock it to such a low resolution, as it would just cause many complaints that you cannot use a higher resolution. You cannot expect them to backport every feature from new devices, especially if they have to cripple them to get them to even function.

can anyone port timeshift video 120fps in 480p for xperia z?

I have owned the Xperia Z for a while now and it's a great mobile phone. The camera is great, mainly for it's macro capabilities. But it came to mind, my old Sony Ericsson K800i used to take some great pictures and it's strongest point was the fact that you could take a perfect picture of an object moving at high speed as long as the xeon flash could hit it. The timing was perfect and the picture would come out with absolutely no motion blur.
So I was wondering, do you think that was a hardware feature or something that could perhaps be implemented on our Zs using software?
Haha least there are people that remember the old se k800 k810 k850 c905 and satio with xenon I believe that the z takes good to great pics depending on the scene but any phone with xenon - even the Samsung and Nokia's released at the same time as the phone above - were great phones too.
Don't worry rumour has it there actually finally might again be a Sony phone with xenon/plasma flash with a nice lense/sensor
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, they were great! I had the k800i for ages, even the software was nice. (I never liked symbian on the Nokia though)
I thought the Xperia Z would be similar on that respect or at least it could be accommodated with some software mod, but you reckon it's the xeon flash that makes the difference, right? Oh well, still a great phone =)

I've grown increasingly disappointed in the camera on this phone. 13mp photos are compressed, grainy, and look just awful up close at full zoom. Are there any workarounds to improve image quality?
Sent from my LT30p using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
There's no rocket science here.
It's the same with every Xperia flagship, from X10 till Z.
It's the result of terrible post-processing handled by default Xperia camera software, which tries to artificially remove noise and then terribly compress image, to achieve as lower file size as it could. Which again, is terribly wrong, and only Sony developers know why is this like this.
In a world of huge internal storages, and generally cheap 32+GB microSD cards, they are trying to compress images to the lower limits.
On my last phone, Xperia Arc S, I partially solved this by using CameraZOOM FX app, that doesn't compress images that badly, and it produced overall better images than default Camera app, and larger in size also. It was especially noticable with macro high detailed shots, like text or similar.
But, on Xperia T, for some reason CameraZOOM is not providing 16:9 aspect ratio option, so you're stuck with standard 4:3 ratio images, which is deal-breaker for me to be honest. So unfortunately I'm stuck with default camera app till CameraZOOM devs fix this issue, or till some better camera app appears.
Attached are 3 pictures from 3 different sources. Camera zoom, Android 4.3 camera, and stock Sony. Can anyone tell the difference?

First, images you uploaded are downsampled to 1032x774 resolution, therefore unusable for any kind of comparison.
Second, if you haven't done that already, set image quality in Camera ZOOM to 100%.
Third, find some object with clean and defined lines/shapes (ever saw gsm arena photo comparison sample?), as only that way you can see difference if there is any.
And then upload those photos to imageshack in FULL resolution, and then share them here, and ask for opinion.
And even if you prove to be right (which I doubt you'll be), I never said that Camera ZOOM will surely provide better results on Xperia T too. I know it made a difference back on Xperia Arc S, and in some situations quite a huge difference.
Maybe one more thing to add is, I'm working with graphics on daily basis, so I know what I'm talking about.
Thanks for the information. I obviously don't know what I'm doing and didn't know it sampled down when attaching. I'll clean this thread up and do some more comparison on my own before posting given your helpful advice. Thanks again!

i see no difference in that three pics, upload photobucket full size maybe
my observations:
when i was on CM in past, i used camerazoom and procapture, both are nice. negative for me was the time it need for procapture to shoot+save a pic, a bit too long. but many options, also 16:9. i not installed camerazoomfx since it cannot 16:9 on sony stock here
iam quite satisfied with sony stock camera (no cybershot mod). i play around with manual settings, so i make quite good shots for daily use.
only for panorama i bought me propanorama, its simply a sexy panorama app:silly:
Ok, I did a quick comparison this morning, and unfortunately with undesired result.
Maybe the object of shooting wasn't ideal because of lack of colors, but I think it could give us general idea about comparison of stock Camera and Camera ZOOM.
So, I took a shot of tech magazine, from same angle and same distance, as much as I could, and there's no big difference to be honest.
There's no difference in file sizes, and in quality of pictures too. I remember though, that back on Xperia Arc S, Camera ZOOM provided bigger files for about 20-30%.
So here are the full resolution shots:
Camera ZOOM:
http://imageshack.us/a/img513/9871/ky.jpg
Stock Camera:
http://imageshack.us/a/img11/2116/w1lx.jpg
And this is a 100% zoom cut-out I did in Photoshop:
As you can see, there's no big difference, if any at all. If you try hard, you can see some small difference in edge sharpness, on big letters "S" and "U", but nothing spectacular. Also, on upper part of picture, you can see that letter "H" is a little bih cleaner and sharper on Camera ZOOM, but this could be due to un-ideally aligned focus on both photos, as they are not taken from 100% ideally the same angles/position.

Hi @ all
I would like to know if the camera of the Xperia Z really improved since the 10.1.1.A.1.253 update:
gsmarena. com/sony_xperia_z_gets_firmware_update_improves_camera_quality-news-6041.php
I'm really interested to buy a Xperia Z but nearly all reviews of the XZ criticised the camera quality, especially pictures taken in low light.
Thanks in advance for your answers and sorry for the link, cant post a working one due to <10 Posts.

Camera quality is pretty good, now im ruinning 4.3 and before that 4.1 camera had some extra options like HDR and all, now most of the settings are composed into single ones, there is also one HDR in manual mode, overall performance is good, now it opens fast.
here i post some pics i took with it, i didnt do any corrections on photos.
Why don't you bump it up and buy a z1 it has a better.camera (I didn't try it my self) a few bucks wouldn't hurt

the hardware (camera) of z1 and is godly, but the software and image processing of sony is...meh.
i'm a fan of sony, but i think they should consider to look into galaxy s4's image processing, even though gs4 and xz has the same sensor, the image quality is different
Yeah definitely agree with u guys, the image quality in low light condition really suck. My xperia z always show purple dots or pixel in the black colored area. It feels like sensor problem, did u guys experienced it as well?? Or is it just me?

Please don't complain about the camera i had the chance to try Samsung Note 2, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Note 3 and i can say for a fact that they all do bad pictures for the megapixels they have. Cameras on phones are decent but still not as good as a dedicated digital camera.
Camera on 4.3 sucks! The noise level is crazy! Don't even need to zoom in and I can see the noise very clearly.
Can confirm the s4 comparison. I did a side by side test fiddling with different options and the s4 came out on top. Thought Sony would have the camera software on lock

agreed, it's better for sony to focus on their image processing technology, my dad has an s4 and his picture is around 5~10MB per photo, that's a size too large maybe, but the detail is really good, sony should decreasing their over-compressing of the photos.

Just saw the Z2 and it had the same camera as Z1. After seeing that Sony enabled 4K on Z2, which Z1 was already capable of doing but not activated cause SONY, was wondering whether the Z1 has the Slow-mo feature too but was hidden cause SONY.
Sent from my Xperia Z1 using xda app-developers app
Well the logical answer would be that SONY wants to make money because Snapdragon 800 is capable of taking 4K natively without lags and so on.. but SONY wants you to upgrade and spend money all the time... There is a big chance that SONY will add 4K in Kit Kat update so let's just hope. And about Slo-Mo, so logically 4K is 4 Times 1080p right? If phone takes 1K at 60FPS then it can take slow-mo at 240FPS... All complaints to SONY ...
It will all ported from Z2 to Z1 so I am not worry about anything. Z1 will get better and better with time.
I agree with you theres nothing to worry about cause the XZ 4.3 has all the camera features of XZ1 but the chances of it having 4K recording are pretty much almost 0%.
What I want to know is, does the XZ2 use the same G lens as XZ1 or does it have some treaked/updated version. If it has the same then Slo-mo coming to Z1 is almost 100% yes.
Sent from my Xperia Z1 using xda app-developers app
Judging by what you said that would mean that the Note 3 and every Snapdragon 800 phone along with 4k 30fps cameras have slo-mo capabilities which I highly doubt.
Also the Z2 does Slo-mo at 120fps.

The camera still the same and lens too. Software was improved that is why Z2 have better pictures. The 4K recording will be available on Z1 soon. Is not Hardware limitation buy Software only. It's a matter of time. This for sure will be made all for the end of this year.

Dear, we r not talking about timeshift burst, but timeshift video.
there is a way to make camera record at 60 fps, which is bare minimum for slow-mo, you can find the rom in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/rom-official-sony-lollipop-5-1-1-t3196237

Oh yes sir, I am constantly searching for this, but if u get somthing interesting, please do post it here.
Slomotion on Xperia Z is really "edgy" topic.
Because hardware it self(camera chip and CPU) IS capable to record 120fps at 480p
Some local xda developers say that its impossible, but Oppo Find 5 have THE SAME camera and CPU and... it record 120fps.
Problem lay on camera software, and to be more precise on "drivers" that our Xperia Z have, and that are messed up by Sony.
With some good skills and knowledge it would be possible to copy code from Oppo Find 5 and enable this mode on Xperia Z, but as I said its hard topic, because no one here want mess with that.
Also as you would probably know, Xperia Z is really old device, and for past year or two most of developers on this forum where focused more on creating LP ROMs and modifying existing one rather than making something new.
Its probably offend some devs, but creating your own ROM based on stock is really easy, and 90% of what we have on xda are just stock roms filled with custom additions gathered from forum. There is nothing new here, only few people still trying to mess with device it self to make it "better/cooler".
So yeah, you can forget about 120fps on Xperia Z, its just better to buy new phone (even Z1compact have the same price as XZ in most of places, and even if its smaller device its WAY better than XZ)
