[Q] Best ROM for DSP? Distortion in Cyanogen? - HTC Incredible S

Hello
I've been going back and forth between ROMs to find one with good sound. I've found Cyanogen either has muddy bass with no "felt" bass, and heaps of distortion over headphones more than capable of handling it. I was wondering what were the best sounding ROMs and DSP packages for the Incredible S are, Jellybean and ICS preffered.
Thankyou.

Hello
Which headphones are you using and how is the quality of the song?
I am using klipsch image one, playing flac and 320kbps mp3 and no problems on CM
I'm using awesomebeats but that shouldn't matter.
Try playing with both the "bass boost' and the visual equaliser though

I am using the Logitech UE200, and enabling bass boost at all seems to artificially create distortion, but if I manually disable DSP manager and use something like equalizer, the bass works a little better. However, there isn't any "sub-bass" [below 60hz]. It isn't as anywhere near as powerful as DSP manager could be if it didn't have that bug.
All songs on my phone are 320kpbs if obtainable, but any that I use to test low-end is all 320 MP3
I'm tempted to try AOKP R5 with just Equalizer, or Nooxzoide [Can't spell it] DSP manager as they had better results.

Try awesomebeats as its supposed to improve that stuff by using beats libs. Like I said my setup with any ROM basically produces decent sound, not the best but okay
For the record though I don't turn bass all the way up as it gets too distorted, its only on a bit but I can still feel it. Do you have yours done all the way?

In DSP Manager, it floats around Moderate/Exteme boost with either untouched or ever so slightly boosted 16/60 equalizer bands. In Equalizer, the sweet spot is 80% boost, and in Noox DSP the lowest end of the EQ is +10.0 without distortion [No PSYC selection].
What is awesomebeats anyway? a flashable zip with a modded DSP manager library or..?
EDIT: I've decided on VIPER Vivo, but just one question.
What DSP comes with it, do I need to flash Awesomebeats seperatley and can you have folders on the dock?

Awesomebeats replaces the DSP manager. Its a modded DSP manager that incorporates the beats audio libs from HTC. Just flash it and it will be set. If you Google it you'll find it, V5 AFAIK is the latest and the developer is ...Awesome... (That's his name)
It won't work on viper so don't try. However viper has about 30000 different presets and its own visual equalizer to play with

If Im not mistaken, isnt distortion more of a hardware thing?
A quick google search gave me this:Distortion on wikipedia

[Q] DSP manager on other roms

one of the features i like the most in cm7 is DSP manager app. does someone knows a way how i could get it on other roms, or is there an app that provides the same settings?
Just copy /system/app/dspmanager.apk and /system/lib/soundfx/libcyanogendsp.so from CM and paste both at same path in new rom. I use it that way and it does work
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
I installed DSP Manager comes from CM7, and the dynamic range compression doesent work. Everything else works great...
My tracks sounds very good with dynamic range compression on CM7. Actually what is it doing? And how?
Nice bump

BUMP!, one of the features that keeps me in CM7 instead stock based roms... Stock based have alarm/stopwatch/timer/ in one place, divx official support and HDMI auto/1080p/720p/480p/etc... + I love colorized android settings
Any suggestion how to import these features (including full DPS with dynamic range that makes music sound awesome) that whould be great indeed.
any apk available?

I'm also trying to get dynamic range compression to work for DSP manager. I installed the .apk from CM7 on my Samsung Galaxy player YP-G70 running Gingerbread 2.3.5 and all DSP features work except Dynamic Range compression. Does anyone know if it needs to be flashed as a ROM to make it work? My device is rooted, however there is no support for it for CM7 yet. I get no responses to this question when I post on the Cyanogen forums, most likely because my Samsung device isn't supported and I'm being ignored.
Yes, yes I know, everybody hates Dynamic range compression, "It's destroying music" blah! blah! blah! But there are many times when it's needed, especially on small devices like android phones and PMP's. Listening to music, movies and video clips on these devices in noisy environments, or on small speakers can be difficult to hear the quieter passages of the content. then of course when the loud parts come in, they blast the speakers or headphones with distortion. I cant believe there aren't any Android apps out there to address this situation. Anybody know of one that maybe isn't on the android marketplace?
May be,
DRC feature of DSPManager is framework integrated. Check CM Vs stock ROM's framework

I tried it on the CM7 firmware and it didn't work any better than when I hacked it into the stock firmware. Specifically DRC, the rest worked fine except for the EQ which crashes (FC) on the stock firmware. Not sure why.

Audio Kernel

Any kernel for better audio output for galaxy note, like Voodoo kernel
Haven't seen any kernels featuring enchanced audio output for Note. The only one i can think of is CM9 kernel with DSP Manager installed.
Voodoo Louder works for me on Speedmod kernel (it doesnt have voodoo support)
Paid app but only £0.90p So worth it, Download the app before you pay, It will do some checks on your phone / kernel to see if it is supported, So you dont waste your money
Also, Consider the Beats audio / DSP Mod over in the theme & app section !
Try Carbon Tweaks, it gives the option to install Dolby Sound or Beats sound. I currentlu have Dolby and it sounds pretty amazing compared to stock. Btw its only for ICS Rooted. And it's only available (for now) on XDA.

I want to run GE or AOSP...but audio SUCKS!

Hi guys,
Can you help me find a ROM that suits my needs? I am going nuts here. I have flashed that many roms and I am just tired of it. I haven't actually found one that I actually enjoy.
First of all I want a rom that is preferably GE or AOSP with lots of customisation. For example I loved this rom by dirty unicorns found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314807
This ROM is pretty much everything I look for in a ROM...however I am getting really bored with the One at the moment. Especially because I care about audio, and I just feel like no developer has really come in and developed a all you need, kick ass audio mod for the One.
In this rom above audio is absolutely HORRIBLE. At full volume it distorts and through headphones it does not sound as good as with sense. But I don't want to use sense.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Ultimately I'd like to use that ROM with good audio and if possible boost the sound ever louder (that's another thing, these speakers have dedicated amps but no one has figured out how to boost volume levels at hardware level?). Any audio mods/things that I can do to get the sound quality and volume back up to par with sense? This rom doesn't come with beats audio...possible to install it?
Thank you for your help.

Have you tried using viper4androidFX. Its a pretty good audio mod I use on ARHD GE edition. Sadly Zeroinfinity isn't making purexaudio for AOSP and only Sense. Its a godly audio mod, but only Sense is a no go.

Yes I have. The problem is that your GE edition comes with beats audio, so your audio sounds half decent. The dirty unicorns rom I am using doesn't have beats audio, and what seems like all the aosp audio files (which sound horrible).
I don't want to lose this rom, but I don't want to live with this audio either. First world problems hey haha

While running vibermod4android you turn Beats off since you don't want to modify an already modified audio stream. It works perfect on all Roms

I have beats off even though im on GE. Beats switch is just an equalizer preset, nothing else. Technically you could replicate the exact same sound with the equalizer built in to any music app, or viper. Like altimax98 said, it should be turned off anyways because modifying something thats already modified isn't too sensible. Especially if you were to say use another device, and wanted to replicate the exact same audio no both. Copying settings from one to the other would have them sound the same but with beats on, your throwing a modification on to a modification.

Yeah, no I understand that all but I still can't fix my sound on this AOKP rom?
I have installed V4A except I don't think it is doing anything... I downloaded the convolver pack so I can set custom IRS still does nothing. I wonder if I set it up properly?
All I did was install and then that was install busybox, install v4a as user app. then run it and install drivers. it said drivers isntalled but it didnt let me selected cortext a8 or those type of options. weird. Now the app seems like it does nothing for sound.
Any ideas?

Are you using dsp compatible app? (google music player, or my fav Shuffle +)
And fx just asks for power save, high quality or best sound drivers. Doesn't ask for processor specific, that's xhifi only.

I've gone from Sense to GPE and (this may be placibo) but i actually find the straight SQ of the HP really, really good/ better than when i was stock.
I tried the Viper mod when using the SIN rom, didn't like it, tried the others (nooze, etc) and concluded that all of the sound mods are simply DSP's and don't actually make the SQ from the DAC any better. They simply change it. I'm back to the pure sound from GPM without EQ and i think it is magnificent!
My tip would be to do a full clean install of your current GPE rom and disable/uninstall Viper etc and run unfiltered/EQ'd for a few days to get your ears used to the sound (Ears burn in to music as much as equipment) and then judge. Also, using good earphones is probably the best thing one can do to improve SQ. The earphones included with the Phone are suprisingly good imho.
YMMV

Beats Audio preset for CM11 ?

Hi folks,
Lately I've been running CM11-based roms.
I tried a few but OneDroid seems to be the most complete and solid one.
Everything works however I'm missing the Beats Audio preset from the stock HTC roms.
I tried messing with the DSP manager, got close, but it's still not the same.
So did anyone port over the HTC Beats by Dre audio preset to CM11 (by using a Xposed mod for example) ?
Thanks
it's not possible to get beats on CM. try noozoxide from PS instead.
Hey I tried Noozxoide EIZO rewire PRO for that matter on Sense and with the audiophile setting it's even better than beats audio...
Maybe try Viper4Android?

cm14.1 appears to be set at 90 initially, so its not needed.
most developers including cyanogenmod are using 90 as default setting now, but be aware that some developers change other parts of these files as they see fit for other purposes. In other words, you probably don't need to use these files anymore if you are running any custom rom.
I use Resurrection Remix 6.x -- based on CM13 -- and yes RR 6.X ROM from @bhb27 already has some audio boost (from 84 to 90). However, I also have this below installed. It also gives richer sound and has speaker enhancement. See screenshots below.

It incorporates Viper and some other stuff. It installs a couple of apps (Dolby Atmos and Viper) and automatically uninstalls RR's Audio FX (since it's redundant or a conflict).
For the Viper "phone speaker" section I have "Speark Optimization" and "xTra Loud" on -- but only on "Slight" for "Select Effect Strength" in the xTra Loud section. It gets really loud, even with that "slight" -- so for some media I have to turn the volume down.
In the Dolby Atmos app, I have Voice on "Rich" profile and turned on "Dialogue Enhancer" -- but have not adjusted anything in the EQ. I can tell a BIG difference when I turn off the Dolby app and turn it back on while playing a song -- so I know it's working!
If you decide to try it, ignore the confusing "add ons" or "profiles". There's somewhat cryptic instructions on how to install them, but I'm NOT using them. I'm keeping it simple.
I only downloaded the main app, rebooted into TWRP recovery, flashed it, wiped caches, and rebooted.
First time you run Viper, it asks to install the driver. Say YES, and wait a couple of minutes. It is doing stuff in the background, be patient. It will then ask you to re-boot to activate Viper. I then turned on the options in the screenshots above in Viper and Dolby Atmos.

Android xt1254 volume boost is it really possible?
A lot of audio file on just an old guy with an old Android it doesn't hear very well.
I have tried no less than six different apps increase the volume on my telephone it does absolutely nothing nor do the EQ functions work.
Is it apps that are full of Bologna or is it that my phone is not technical enough to accept these applications.
I even contacted Motorola to Good Into The Hidden Factory controls which some article said could be done by changing the numbers but I've been told it's not possible on this telephone.
Any suggestions of someway to boosters volume would be greatly appreciated.
