Hiya all,
Theres an option in Live Wallpapers to use images, the default HTC images scroll through beautifully. However when using custom images (folder), they seem to zoom in to random parts of the image as they scroll through. I have resized all the images in the folder to the correct resolution 1080x1920. Even tried some of the wallpapers some people posted in the forums but still it zooms in.
I can use the images singularly but wheres the fun in that. I want it to scroll through each image like the default HTC ones.
The images are .png and exactly 1080 x 1920, any suggestions?
Andy

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a specific background for my hero.
I've downloaded the 'backgrounds' app from the market and also had a search via google with no luck.
Any idea where I can get a Tottenham Hotspur wallpaper from?
Or if not, how I can convert a picture to use as a wallpaper?
Thanks,
B

whats the background image resolution on the uk tmobile g2 ?
i.e. not the physical screen resolution, but the resolution of the image that is scrolled in the background of the default 7 touchflo (android home?) pages. i dont think its simply 7x width of screen, as it doesnt scroll as much as the foreground

Check the HTC site and see if it lists the dpi (dot per inch / dot pitch) of the screen... but a 72 dpi image should be fine, or use a larger size than 640x480.
As long as its the same aspect ratio it will scale nicely when cropped.
Cheers joe!
I've found something decent, I was under the impression I needed a specific android wallpaper, but the image I found from one of your links seems to work fine!
Thanks...

this site will be usefull there are enough wallpapers. i like this site
Any 640x480 jpeg image should be fine for a home screen background, anything larger can be cropped down when you set it
Hi,
I've been playing around transferring files onto my phone, but I just can't get my lock screen to look right.
1. Does anyone know what the exact dimensions of the lockscreen image should be? I read 320x480 somewhere, but this isn't correct. I've also tried 360x380, 340x480. Maybe it's 345x480? I want to get this right because...
2. Whenever I set an image onto the lock screen, the phone seems to compress the image really badly and I see loads of jpg artifacts on the parts that should be solid colour. I'm hoping that if the image is the right size, it won't convert/re-sample/re-compress the file.
Any ideas?

The stock ones are 320 x 455, and I've had good results using those dimensions for my own images.
Im sure i read that converting your image to a png and using that instead of the png file gave better results also. Not 100% on that though lol
.png gives better quality than jpg.
320x455 px is the right size. But everytime you set wallpaper, HTC software it re-compress as JPEG in tragical quality. PNG or JPEG, that makes no difference.
Will be nice software like Wallpaper Set & Save for lock screen wallpaper. But I can't find something like that.

Not my experience. My own images are usually desktop 'papers resized and/or cropped to 320x455 and saved as JPEGs, and provided I ensure the green 'crop box' is expanded to encompass the entire image when selecting the lockscreen they look just as good as the originals.
I've tried many images. At most (as you) cropped or resized desktop wallpapers. I prepare the correct size and copy to phone. I keep JPEG at 90 to 100% of quality and also convert it to PNG. And every image was resampled during setting up as lock screen wallpaper. Everytime its quality goes rapidly down. Even I used exactly the same way like you.
It is not good visible on landscape wallpapers with. But on artifical images it's very big problem. It blurs every contrast line on image.
Try it on this image: http://anowia.deviantart.com/art/Light-Blaze-HD-Wallpaper-129153930 If you don't notice any resample after setting up as lock screen wallpaper, please provide screenshot.

Here you go.... see what you think. View attachment lockscreen.zip
Not perfect, but it was a rush job. Resized from 1280x1024 to ???x455, then cropped to 320x455. Saved as JPEG @ 100% for use. Photoshop Elements 7 used. If I had more time I'd probably play with the sharpening to compensate for the downsizing.

Also having this issue with this image..
I have problems with all images. But on this it's good visible. And as Shluggity's screenshots shows, it's not only my problem. I think it's not good
I'm not sure what's going on but there's definitely some sort of degradation visible, a softening of the edges. I honestly haven't seen it in my own wallpapers, but I haven't used images like this with lots of thin sharp 'light beam' effects. Maybe original image res is a factor, maybe screen dpi, maybe something completely different... If I have time tomorrow I'll do some tests.
how does wallpaper set and save work? maybe the wallpaper directory is similar to the lockscreen directory?
Have you tried HeroLockWall? (Market)
lockscreen wallpaper help..
i have the same problem i cant get lockscreen wallpaper to work every time i try i get a tile wallpaper and not a stretch wallpaper that i want can sum body help me plz??
As we all know, the CoolIris gallery on the Nexus One makes compressed versions of the pictures it has for faster loading times and smoother 3D effects. However, I was not expecting to see the same hideous compression on the wallpapers I download and then apply from the Gallery. They look simply rubbish in the display and that's disappointing. I've attached a screenshot of how this actually looks. The actual wallpaper is actually quite crisp and sharp.
Is there any other way to apply a wallpaper without using the gallery and consequently having it compressed?

Try wallpaper set an save from the market. I only saved a bg, but see if it does the trick

Nope, still looks compressed. Any other options?
Bump. Anyone?
link me the full size picture (upload somewhere) and i'll try a few things here.
The only solution i have found, was to add the wallpaper i didnt want compressed to a launchers default wallpapers. I use ADW, so I replaced the default adw wallpaper with the htc sence wallpaper (the static one). Had to make sure it has the same file name as the one its replacing. I originally did this using metamorph, but that stopped working, so I use "App Manager 4.5" (google it). I copy the AWD Launcher's apk file and use app manager to unzip it, I then replace the wallpapers I want and use app manager to recompile the apk making it usable on the N1 again, and it works like a charm.
The sense wallpaper no longer has the hideous compression it has when applied through the gallery, I was hoping this would be solved with froyo's release, if only to be applied to wallpapers only, but I guess not, till then, this is the method I have to use for the wallpapers which are affected.
I use "My Gallery" to avoid the wallpaper banding issue. It by-passes the 3D Gallery when choosing an image to be set as a wallpaper. The troubles with "My Gallery" are 1) it cant crop the image to fit the phone resolution. So large images must be pre-cropped. 2) The image organization is horrible. It doesnt have any function to go to specific directory. It'll just dump every image it could find on the SD or internal mem. If you have loads of images, there'll be a lot of scrolling involve.
I really have searched alot for this answer. I run a CyanogenMod based ROM on my HD2. When I go to select a wallpaper there are four options; Wallpapers, Live wallpapers, Gallery and CyanogenMod Wallpapers.
Ignoring the live ones for a moment, when I select a Wall from the Wallpapers or CyanogenMod I'm not asked to resize/crop it and I get a lovely sharp Wallpaper on my Home screen.
Selecting a Gallery image I am asked to resize/crop it, even if it is already the correct 960x800 resolution. And no matter what I do the resulting image that appears on my home screen has lost lots of detail.
Thinking some redundant rescaling might be happening, and considering the original sources of the walls were higher resolution anyway, I made bigger images which still had the correct aspect ratio. I was hoping they would retain more detail but no, it's like the images are sized down to a resolution below 960x800 and then scaled up for displaying on the home screen losing detail in the process.
The quality drop is nothing like what Sense used to do on WinMo, it's quite subtle, but it's definitely there.
Anyone else experienced this, any solutions
Note. I've also tried Nexus One based ROMs on the phone and got same result.
The remedy you're looking for is called "Wallpaper Set & Save" and is available on the Market for free.
Make sure though that your Wallpaper is in a 4:3 aspect ratio (640x480, 960x800) and you can set wallpapers in full quality.
As far as I can tell, pretty much everyone who in some way customizes his mobile phone is using this piece of software.
Hope that helps
Wallpaper Set and Save in the market.
Cheers guys, that worked like a charm
CAn someone upload it here .. CAnnot found on market .. mini pro.
Had it b4 but cant seem to find the link
Is the a way to make wall papers fit to the screen? Changing the wildfire not the wallpaper?
Ive tried using adw launcher and disabled scrolling wallpaper, however when i select an images for the wallpaper it gets slightly distorted, like its being put across the 7 sense screens. Is there a way to stop this?
Nb. This is My first post regarding my new Htc wildfire, I've search for an answer to this but couldn't find one. A quick thankyou to all those devs working with this device.
I do not know exactly what you mean, but I would recommend the app: Wallpaper set and save. If you have a picture or a wallpaper you have downloaded, just open the app, choose what wallpaper you want, and BAAM great quality. Not compressed or anything like when you use the one in the ROM.
This has nothing to do with development.
Images need to be in 480x320, but being so hard to look around in the BIG THREAD NAMED WALLPAPERS FOR WILDFIRE, you needed to open a topic IN THE WRONG AREA!!!

Sorry if I didn't make myself myself clear, ...let me clarify my original post
I'm using adw.launcher and have a single home screen, on a a stock (rooted) rom containing sense.
The physical screen size of the wildfire is 230 x 320.
I'd like to be able to use a image which is 230 x 320, and have it fit to the single home page, without being distorted.
As i said in my original post i've searched for an answer. but i have also looked through the wallpaper threads
I guess something could be done to sense or adw which (not the wall paper) would stop the scrolling and allow image size of 230 x340 applied without distorting. So, I put my question within the dev sub-forum to see if the there was a way to do this...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
all the launchers have the option to turn off wallpaper scrolling.
wallpapers that i use that aren't distorted are usually, 320x480, 480x960.
