Few Questions? - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Questions :
What will a kernel like ThunderZap or CoCore do to the official Russian ROM which we have right now?
Will it make it work like custom ROM like will it make it (the official one) fast, snappier and no lag anymore?
What are the problems with the official ROM, why it hangs so much and is slow?
I have tried almost all custom ROM's available currently for our android and all works amazing.
But still i want to use the official one and the only way is installing kernel or someone develop the official one again.

Well Custom Roms Are Optimized to be more SMoother and Faster thats why a stock kernel would perform better on the custom Rom BUT when using the Stock Samsung it hangs and it's slow coz Stock is never optimzed thats why we call it stock and stock kernel performs worse on the Stock ROm....
whereas using a custom kernel on Stock rom would make the rom faster and if using the custom kernel with custom rom, the phone will become snappier

Thanks buddy
I have also tried your Vanilla ROM and it is the fastest according to me
But I want that you should make some changes to that :
# It have two camera apps and two gallery apps, first make them one. Both gallery apps works but only one camera app works.
# Try to port original Nexus launcher if you can because Nova launcher is not so good and It makes it a little bit fake nexus...
# Still calling and some other features are same from stock, just changed color to blue.
These are my suggestions, Overall your ROM is best for me

I haven't noticed that before but you are right
And one thing more can you create a new project by taking any ROM as example and explaining it how you started making that ROM, which ROM you picked as base, How you ported and How you finalized the ROM. I mean total noob-freindly project which will make noobs like me take off from the noob status and fly to the beginners one

[Q] What ROM for ICS / i9000?

Hi,
which ROM can you recommend? I'm on DarkyRom 10.4.2 and want to change to ICS.
Is there any ROM contains tun.ko module for using openvpn or anyconnect? I can't find any information about this.
Hey,
There are so many ICS roms you can try from, we've really got great developers for our device.
My current favorite is ICS333:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618757
It's really stable and everything works!! There's even a guide to install it on the general section.. Here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637966
tun modules are supported by the kernel. ICS333 comes with semaphore kernel by default, which supports tun modules.. You could check and ask more on the ics semaphore thread in the development section..
For me there are only a few good ICS Roms.
The best ist Dark Knight 3.
But if you want a really stable and fast System, don`t take an ICS Rom. Take a jvt, jvr or jvz custom rom. My favorite is Tornado.
Thanks for you answer.
I've looked at many ROMS but the decision is difficult. My favorite after reading the different thread is SLIM ICS. But I'll now have a look at ICS333.
Should I use nandroid to make a backup before trying any ROM?

Hey, try the roms you like and choose the one you like the most!
Yeah, making a nandroid backup would be a good idea. Although don't restore your GB Titanium backup on ICS, it will create issues.
Cheers!!

Sadly yes.. There's no other way that i know of.. else you'll have FCs on every app..
You should EVER install without settings if you change your base!
Try ICS out. I tested several ICS Roms but for me ICS on Galaxy1 is only to see, what is ICS.
I`m back to GB with Galaxy1, Galaxy Note and Iconia A500.

What are your reasons to go back? Was it not stable enough, or battery drain?
For now the CM9 nighltlies are working fine for me no issue.the battery is also fine runs for around 12-15 hours moderate to high use with semaphore kernel 1.1.1s.i tried a DOCMaster's rom also it also great...SLIM ICS is also good but if you are new to flashing you will have some difficulties in it since the dpi is 182 in it and some market apps wont be compatible.Onecosmic was great but since there is no new development i wont recommend it.For now CM9 with Semaphore kernel.Waiting for Gamerzrom with ICS

Exactly what i tought about ICS, until i gave TWICS a try.
I'm on TWICS 2.5, its fast, Battery fine (like Stock JVT) , no FCs., no Lags (after switching from TW4 to Apex launcher).
I use my phone mostly for calls,SMS and a little Tapatalk, no Facebook.
Don't get Faceunlock working, maybe a Face problem *g*, i don't care.
Thats my experience, other user reports some problems with Battery life, check the TWICS-Thread.

Hi!
With ALL ICS Roms on all devices i got a worse Benchscore on QS, Antutu, CF Bench and Vellamo. The "feeling" is even slower too. ALL Roms are buggy. Nice to see what is ICS and nice for flashaholics like me, but nothing for stable daily use. DK 3 is ok- no battery drain- but bugs too. The DK 4 and 5 is poor and DK 5.5 ok but slower than 3 and GB.

You seriously have no idea what you're talking about.
ICS is perfectly suitable for daily use on your phone. Not only is it smoother than GB, it looks better. And there aren't really any bugs. None that you'll see with normal use. It's perfectly stable.
Pick a ROM, any ROM. SlimICS is great; Dark Knight seems popular; CM9 and AOKP work wonders. Take your pick and never look back to the past that was Gingerbread.
I think CM9 is the best. I definitely recommend ICS as it has hardware acceleration and is sooo fast!
There's nothing like ICS isn't stable.. There are loads of roms to choose from.. I'm on ICS 333 for a week now and i haven't faced any bugs, lag or fc..
Everyone has their own views.. I think the best option is to try it out on your own n make your choice.. If you like ICS, great! If not, you can always switch back using a nandroid backup..
Enjoy!!

Doesn't matter, just flash Semaphore. It does. And it's one of the top ICS kernels.
The original release of Samsung Galaxy S [GT-I9000] has come a long way and still powerful enough to accommodate the latest Android release - Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.x.
Read my article here:
https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...dwich-4-0-x-for-samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000.83/
Sorry, but not my view to ICS.
Since today I got the official german ICS for Galaxy Note and now i know, WHY there is no really good ICS Custom Rom for any device!
ICS is the future? LOL
Only on 5 percent of android devices, months later as planned and in a few month jellybean release.
I suggest Elite GTi9000_IMM76K_RC_1.2

Best TW JB ROM for Note?

Hi, guys...
I have tried and flashed JB Rocket ROM and it was quite good, esp. v2 where pretty much everything worked, but yesterday and today suddenly I can't use my mobile data. Wifi Internet great, but no mobile Internet, no matter how many times I reboot and press "mobile data" button.
SO, my question is: what is the next best TW based JB ROM, since v3 of RR won't be coming because eybee got stressed out over the stupidity and idiotic behaviour of some forum members and he was so close to finishing v3, apparently. Bloody jerks! Respect to him and all the devs.
Hey, can somebody tell the big boys to try and make something like a weekly poll/statistics of which ROMs are most downloaded, which are best rated and stable. It would help a lot and save time spend on questions and aswers regarding this. You know, like when you buy stuff on Amazon, you pick 4/5 star products and then choose from the best of the crops.

mine the best now is rocketrom v2
comes in second alliance
Hi there!
I'm also interested and wanted to ask the same question...so Rocket Rom is the best one but unfortunately the dev isn't on it anymore.
Btw, if I understand correctly TW roms are Stock based but tweaked? So it means that it's possible to use Snote etc?
I'm asking this question because i'm for the moment on Thor Rom with Thor Kernel but I really miss Snote...
Thank you

Alliance is a great rom but have you tried the Ultimate v4 LS7 rom?
If you don't care about battery life, which is the fastest?
I have tried Ultimate JB ROM v4 (LS7 based) and so far it is great, fast, battery great too... Alliance ROM sounded interesting, and people in that forum/thread say it is great, but I was put off by "beta 1" thing. Ultimate is ultimate, right?
I think that till the middle of December we should see great, stable and full functional ROMs based on LS9. Can't blame me for hoping, right?
I have used alliance rom before, and right now i'm using Ultimate rom , it is very good and smooth enough, it has very useful OTA updater and i think it's best JB rom todays.

Do tw-based rom also suffer from memory leaks?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
no... And memory leak is now in the past.. All new jb roms, have fixed it with new drivers.
Ultimate jb..
Mine is SVA xxls7 v2.3. Stable and smooth.. like it very much
Well I personally prefer Ics 4 nw coz the latest TW JB Roms cant be overclocked !!!
Mostly i play games on my note when m free ......... So i prefer overall performance in Gamin + Battery bck up and by the time in TW have only tried alliance Rom and was'nt so happy wiz it ..... So switched to my old alliance final v3 and nw m quite satisfied !!
U should definitely give a try to RR ( Rocket Rom ) from eybee 1970 OR
Alliance rom from Robbie hood !! They r awesome developers .... Love using their roms !!
Also m juz waitin for Official Jb release by Sammy and new kernels !!
Do you know what I would like to see? I would like to see reviews, benchmarks and such. This android community is so awesome, but there is so much unused potential. So much that doesn't reach out the way it could have.
I would like to see proper, clean wikis with information and manuals. I would like to see reviews, pros and cons with the ROMs, benchmark to justify the verdicts and so on.
Instead, one is left with personal opinions - which isnt wrong or bad in any way, but not always enough. A "professional" review is made for the sake of the review and therefore able to tell us more.
With that said, I would like to ask if there is a 4.2.2 that is TW based. Couldn't find any - I found this thread though

[Q] Good, stable and fast rom/kernel?

Hello.. I recently tried popular roms and kernels for Xperia X8.. However some have a huge lag spike, some have too many errors and reboot every time I use one of the features.. The stability, speed and all things depends on the person..
how do u define stable or fast? which can be only concluded by trying out too many roms suitable for u..
So, answering to your question according to me fast n stable roms which i have used are
1) Xperia Soul engine Cossmoss and Forrox,
2)GingerDXv31b.
3)PrimeHD.
4)Jellybread. ( quite ok)
Try out these roms ..m sure one of these roms will definitly fit into your stability and speed

verry well said sir . . that's right
Stock android 2.1 is the best android for Xperia X8 for daily use ;D
As for me, JBMP is very fast and stable
I suggest to use Optimus Nexus Me v6 with nAa 14 kernel + Pure Performance addon. It's very fast
Practically speaking
There is no stable or best ROM or Kernel
It depends on your usage.
Ne ways
For daily use
Try GB - MiniCM 7, GDX
Jellybean is also nice and stable- JB MINI, MINI CM10
Kernel depends on ROM

[Q] Should i switch ROM?

I want to know your opinion, which one is a better(generally) option for a daily driver ROM on our phones based on today's options?
1- Stock/Stock based ROMs
2- Aftermarket ROMs (Like CM,Carbon ...)
It depends...CM Based are for Android Purists who don't like other designs but prefer raw and clean android
Hoever I prefer Nice UI so I go with stock based such as Existenz and the like

The stock roms is not bad, but in my opinion i'd prefer on custom rom because it has a lot of customization, but of course use it at your own risk because ur warranty will void if use custom roms. right now im using VanirAOSP in my XSP. its CM based running on kitkat 4.44 and can be used daily, im not a pro yet and i think u must read and learn and then compare them (the stock vs Custom). good luck ^.^

Vanir is much smoother than stock roms.
You dont invalidate your warranty unless you unlock bootloader (and even then keep a backup and noone will ever know).
Try out the LBL ROMs such as paranoid nexus or CM11 if you dont want to unlock the bootloader. They run really smoothly and with the right setup can be just as good as stock for power consumption (obviously non stock has no stamina mode) and personally I think better for features and performance.
You can also find most Sony apps on XDA to install should you want those (I use Sony Album, movies and Smart Connect).

There is a problem with cm11 roms - sound and mics seems to be very low... So may be 4.1 or 4.3 roms.

So in terms of actual performance stock/stock based ROM's do better?
Why use CM11 roms? They are buggy and laggy. Just use CM10.2, it's a lot faster than stock roms and all the features are working except for FM radio, but you can use SpiritFM.
Try the custom roms and if you like them more than stock use one of them. Many people prefer them but i like more sony's stock rom, i don't have any performance issue on it and i love sony ui.

I don't mean stock 4.3. Try CyanogenMod 10.2. It is Android 4.3 as well. No slowdowns for me.
Here is a link to it.
Xperia SP = HuaShan
i used vanir in a few weeks, it run smooth, until i try playing HD games like MC4, and the screen is only black with the hud, no cutscene.
now i use beanstalk rom. it run smooth and i can play MC4 with no lag at all, so i guess vanir is not that perfect too,
i wanna try CM11 but the review tells that cm 11 is still buggy (am I right ?).
anyone in here try that out?

CoCore

Sometimes on my i9070 I experience some lag. Sometimes much, sometimes a little. I've read some posts here to look into some issues with this phone and came across something (a kernel I believe) called CoCore. It seems it is used for overclocking the processor for a nice performance boost.
At the moment the phone is running unofficial cyanogenmod 11. Will it be wise or helpfull to install this CoCore on the device? And what are the risks involved?
Cocore kernel is for stock ROM. CM 11 has its own kernel that is based on Cocore too. Try using Greenify app maybe on the apps you don't use often that might run in the background. Search for the app on Playstore or here on xda.

Lagfix is not a kernel, just an app to run regularly (manually if you use free version).
Personally I think that, if you don't have the patience to customize Stock Rom with Cocore kernel properly, you should try some Android 4.4 Custom Rom until you find a good one for you.
I keep using Stock Rom just for one reason, I customized it too much and I'm too lazy to start again.
Thanks a lot for all of your answers. I think I will keep using this room I'm using right now and when I get bored I'll try a version of jb with lagfix, or maybe I will just use stock with CoCore. The rom I'm using now sure is very stable.
Everything goes to show that it's all good and just a matter of personal taste. But some roms are definitely better than others.

At the moment it has cyanogenmod 11 (unofficial), with flattington theme. This doesn't make the phone faster, but it doesn't have hangups or lag like touchwiz. It's a very nice looking theme!
