In the evo 4g lte they updated it so the back bar didn't have to be there is this in the one cause no one mentions it at all and this would be a huge deal breaker
Black bar has returned.. I'm sure the Developers here will find a fix since it's been done for the international version.

Three dot menu button since we have no menu button. I haven't personally read anyone with a US variant mention whether they removed the back as menu option which brings up the three dot menu but I suspect it is that way since all international variants are. That said it was fixed immediately as the option is still there just disabled. I do remember reading that alledgedly HTC claimed they didn't mean to remove the functionality and it will be added back. But I also read another claim that Google forced their hand on the issue. But both of those are just claims and rumors.

Google didn't force the issue but they have been trying to get both phone makers and app makers to follow do the same thing. They also have suggestions and where they think the OS is going and that is with out a menu button. HTC is following what Google wants them to do but then they get burned because the App developers are following Google's suggestions.
It's really a goofy thing. It can't be turned off until someone comes up with a menu button.

Is there away to install the "Stock" google written "exchange" application onto our device which has htc sense.
I find the HTC version annoying because of the lack of a next/previous button at the top or bottom, something which I used every five seconds in the past, the sense version has next and previous but only after you press the menu button, which is completely stupid
So... I guess I am asking, maybe I am blind and I can get the next/previous buttons on the default email view without pressing menu to get to them ( so I can tap, next next next next, instead of having to deal with a menu, or is there away to get completely stock gingerbread exchange features put onto our phone
Thanks in advance!
I don't think there is a way to go to the next email without hitting menu first. Not sure if the regular Android email app will work or not. There is an app called enhanced email that was similar to the stock one, if I remember correctly. It was free on Amazon a while back. I tried it but I hate the AOSP email so I didn't like it. It may work for you, though.

Only issue I have now is that the touchdown calendar doesn't appear to make itself available to other calendar apps on the phone, but ah well, I'll have a play for a while see if I like this better
I was just playing around with my Nexus 7 and I came across a neat and convenient trick to dispose of a app from the app drawer that you may have mistakenly selected and you only get three options uninstall, app info or simply drop the app on the home screen of your Nexus device. Well, there's a fourth option! Simply long press a app from your home screen or app drawer. Then, fling your finger that's holding down the app down up and release! That's it! From the home screen you don't have to take a app all of the way up to the white x remove then red release delete. From the bottom or where ever that app is on your screen you want to remove or replace, just press and hold the app you want to remove, fling your finger in motion down then up release and watch it fly away off of your screen! I think this only works with Jelly Bean, but this my friend is very convenient!

I can add another cool trick: slide up from the bottom of the screen where the 3 buttons are to bring up the Google search. Neat.

It shows a lockscreen-style circle for that. Kinda unnecessary, but cool. A quick swipe up from the home button works just as well.

There's an easter egg in the settings app. Go into "about tablet". Tap the version number many times. After that, press and hold the Jelly Bean.

That is actually launching Google Now. If you do not have search history turned on for your google account, you will only see a google search.
If you have history, it will show more information cards.

The problem is I don't see Sprint ID as an actual app, so I'm not sure how to get into it. I spent a good amount of time arranging my home screens (panels), widgets, folders, apps, shortcuts, etc. Out of the blue everything with the home screen got reset to the factory default. I'm pretty sure Sprint is the culprit. I'm wondering if there's a way to disable Sprint ID so this wont happen anymore.
Thanks in advance.

You won't find Sprint ID on the phone. I found it to be odd as well. I checked the website, and it's not even a Sprint ID supported phone. I think they only reason why it was there in the first place was to brand the phone after activation. Then it just goes away.
Nope. Mind did it twice. Once upon activation. Once after I had things set up.

I believe it happens if you disable the sprint apps. Once you do that, it redownloads them and messes up the home screen.

The menu bar at the bottom with 3 dots has nothing to do with 4.2.2. It's because most app developers aren't following Google's directives in developing their apps. The menu key/button/bar has officially been replaced with on screen action button, found mostly on the top right corner.
You can however root your phone reassign soft keys and get rid of it. That's what I think, anyway.

The main reason we aren't seeing the menu button implementation by developers in my opinion is Samsung, which seems to own the android phone market keeps putting a menu button on phones. Google would rather a phone have no hardware buttons for ui

I don't understand. Why apps have something to do with Samsung ?for example, xda forum app wasn't made or designed by Samsung right? Its got the 3 dots bar.
Samsung owners can press a physical button therefore programming a software one isn't necessary

IMO, the thing is, majority of android devs work on very stiff revenue models. They have to wisely invest their time in updating/developing their apps. I don't know how tough or easy it is to abide by the new rules, but the devs sure seem to think its not worth the extra effort; the new guidelines have been in effect for quite some time now.
And Sammy rules the android market - as in a LOT of people use Samsung-Android phones, all of which have a physical menu key; all the more reason fr devs not to invest their time in button.
Hey yall. After trying many methods of enable the soft keys which i really like my self, i finaly found out whats messing it up.
in /system in build.prop there is a bit of code which looks like that in the screenshot. my problem was i kept adding code when i simply needed to change the existing code to 0 instead of 1. as shown in the screenshot
also as you can see they work in the xda app. but the buttons dont work in any other app.
anyone know why? i tried changing resolution in build prop and nothing. so i need some help.
So again. My problem is that i cant get the nav bar to work all the time.
Okay um. Attempted to change DPI in build prop. It did work and change DPI but softkeys still only work on the xda app.
I'm thinking maybe disabling hw capatative buttons will fix the problem.

after doing some research, all i figured out was that i would have to decompile and modify the framework-res.apk...
even though i have experience with making apps, i get so lost in google's apps since they arent compiled with classes, its all pure xml and all of it doesnt make sense, so if anyone could, please, figure out what to do in the framework res, to make the nav bar work better, id be very grateful
you can find it at /system/framework
thanks
Well nice find so far! I really like the idea of on screen soft keys but what other use would it have that we can't get from the 3 hardware one's we've got? Does the screen feel crowded, because I imagine that with the thickness of them it'd be pretty cramped

Well you could give it a go and see what its like when running the xda app. Unless it works normal.
Um..screen isn't really crowded. Its about two status bars thick. Uses? Um...I know it has a recent app button. And if you're using a keyboard it will give you the option to minimize it. Other than that its just a nexus feel. And once you enable it you can use apps or xposed installer to have them minimized and you can toggle them like a status bar when ever you need it.

Well an odexed ROM basically prevents any modifications to the firmware or any major graphic ui change but in turn opens apps faster so I'm guessing that's the problem
That could be the problem.
Stock ROM works really well on my device so I'm not changing it till we get cm.
But I'm just wondering why it won't let the nav bar be persistent, even though I addad a persist command to it. And only works on the xda app
Sent from my HTC first using xda app-developers app
I think I figured out the problem. The framework-res.apk manages the overall layout of android, I just need to figure out which if the 600 xml files does that and give the nav bar a bottom margin.

Major find or not I've found out that the app also works with wordrefernce.com it's an old app. I found out today in French class lol but for some reason the on screen soft keys don't work with the premium xda app. Also I should say that there seems to be a 1 second lag when pressing the on screen keys. Unlike the hardware ones that are instant. I've also got lag everywhere else in the phone.. Don't know if this is a side effect

see, i sold my broke first and when i was doing a factory reset and testing to make sure none of my info was present, the nav keys became persistent
So to make the be active 24/7 you MUST DO a factory reset....or maybe just a dalvik wipe, but i did a full reset and they worked fine.
you need to write script (i don't the commands) to enable it after qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
Auto Hide Soft Keys 's Spoof Soft Keys option can enable it via hack, so there is a way to activate it on boot when it doesn't show
