Until there is a root exploit for jelly bean, you do not want this fxz file, as it will remove your root access.

I lost root when I did the update. Then stupidly I tried to fxz back to 246 - which means when I reboot I have to get out of stuck fastboot - so for me it would be an improvement over what I got now...haha

I think I might be worse off...I no longer have the Phone/Contacts/System Settings apps...
Apparently, if you try to use titanium backup to restore contacts and system settings after going from ICS to JB and having to do a factory reset in between, it will erase the 4.1.2 version of the phone, contacts and system settings apps...and will not install the 4.0.4 versions...
looking back on it, it was a stupid mistake...i can still receive calls, and i found the app Contacts+ and Dialer+ will at least restore that functionality, but i need an FXZ, either ICS or JB, to get the stock phone, contacts and system settings back...
i dont know what i was thinking...

im sure there will be a way to root 4.1.2 very shortly
Don't bet on root as a sure thing. Dan quit making root exploits. There's some work going on to try to repurpose one of the RAZR jb exploits for the bionic but this is far from a sure thing. However the fxz is good for those that brick. Yes you'll lose root but you'll at least be able to get a working phone. Also as people are discovering the hard way, bootstrap does not work on jb and causes an encryption error... Thus soft bricking you. The fxz will fix it but at the loss of root. Hope this post helps people.

There seems to be a new leak that is available for the bionic. It mainly addresses updating the radios (baseband, 4G, WiFi). Check it out.

The update should not affect your data, meaning safe strap should already be installed. Just to be safe, run the safe strap app and verify. If you have root with forever root, you should be good to go, otherwise you may need to re root.
You should verify before doing anything that eclipse actually works with 904 before going there, but yeah, after all is said and done, you'll need to reinstall eclipse.

Every one Ive tried has failed saying that some files are missing or the download link is dead
Made it to 904 fine. Problem came up while trying to reinstall eclipse.
apparently safestrap still had a file somewhere on my phone that WOULD NOT let me install anything to establish a safe mode.
It kept giving me a /data error
Thanks in Advance

You must apply this patch to stock, unmodified system (rooted is ok). If you are running safestrap you need to switch to unsafe system before proceeding. If you installed a custom ROM using bootstrap, you need to restore stock (not worth your time for this update IMO).
Unsafe. Safe is the one where we can install custom ROMs....

You probably aren't stock 'enough'. Did you remove anything, or customize something?
Anybody able to flash beats on this? I did it once using safestrap and ended up at a black screen
Took my bionic out of the drawer and put my active SIM in.
I flashed this (no factory reset or wipe)... Once it finished booting up, it started bringing down app updates (about 15 since I had the Bionic off for so long), and within 15 min, I lost the blue 3G with 4 bars lit (RSSI -72dbm CDMA eHRPD), and had just 3 white bars no "G's"... and a pop-up saying "no internet connection"... after about 10 min, I got a white 3G with 4 bars (I didn't check RSSI), and another few minutes, the 3G turned blue and started downloading again.
If I get another data drop, I'll likely WIPE the phone and try again. but with 88 apps installed, wiping, reloading apps, etc... isn't something I want to do right away.
My bionic and TB are setup exactly the same way, with the same apps (except Go Contacts EX on the Bionic, which isn't on the TB)... The TB still hasn't exhibited these data drops the Bionic has. If I wipe the Bionic, I'll probably switch back to the TB while I do it and re-configure it.
Surprisingly for me, my data has been rock solid since updating to. 904
O and beats audio works. The issue was with safestrap
I just got my bionic on saturday and i love it... i saw that .905 has leaked out... Now my question should i go for it or wait for the ota... my phone is not rooted as it runs very well with the current 902 rom... and If i do get the. 905 rom will i be able to update the software in the future
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
If your not rooted yet or using custom roms, then I would just wait for the ota. I'm rooted and romed and haven't bothered myself because it's really just a radio update. However, I would root your phone just for all the other benifits.

Depends on how adventurous you're feeling
If the .905 release isn't the final, then you will be off the upgrade path. Getting back onto it isn't impossible, but it certainly is a pita.
At this point, it's been so long since the soak testers posted about their invite, I'd wonder if they will push another version out. Most everyone thought that .904 would be the next stable release, and now .905 seems less likely too.
Wish we had more info on what was going on behind the curtain with moto and vzw, but alas we do not.

I would very much like to upgrade to the ota 905 JUST so I can put the Eclipse V3.0 ROM on my Bionic. I am just not certain of what to do. I think I need to use RSD Lite woth the 902 "rollback". Then update to 905, root again with motofail, then install the ROM??
I have confidence in doing this onc I have all the right pieces. It's not like I havent done this before (HP Touchpa, Motorola Xoom, Toshiba Thrive). I just need to make sure I have all that I need and have the correct install instructions....
I have a rooted bionic with version 902 currently on it. Will upgrading OTA to 905 cause my phone to brick or should i just wait for a rooted version to come out?

I just received the .905 update and it broke my root. All I had to do to get it back was run motofail and I was up and running again.

I've been on Nitro33's Bionic-905deodexed-nitro33.zip for 2 days without a glitch. I upgraded from a stock 902 that I rooted. Had to get rid of safeboot and go with ClockWork mod recovery since the locked bootloader didn't like the file signature, but I put safeboot back on after the install, did my backup, and I've been runinig without a glitch since. I didn't even wipe data.

I tried to update to 905 from 902 and it keeps failing. Could that be happening because I had soft bricked my phone a while ago but was able to save it by finding the stock online?
I safe strapped back to my unsafe side. Waited a day to see if the update dropped. Nothing. So i downloaded it off phandroid's article about it. Flashed it after removing safe strap. No issues. Kept root. Flashed safe strap again. 4G radio is great now. I'm using Droid Theory's Axiom ROM and data connects immediately now. Used to take a minute or two after a boot. Loving this.

What does it say when it fails? If you can get it OTA, extract it out of your /Cache/ folder and Place the file on your SD card, like actual Micro SD. Power off. Hold both volume buttons and press the power button. You are in fastboot. Press volume down to highlight Recovery, then tap volume up to select it. Now do the option for update with zip. Choose the file. Watch it as it installs. When it fails it should state what was wrong.

it will only be there when it is first downloaded. Once you try to flash it it is wiped from the cache. So you would download it when prompted. Then when it finishes and asks to reboot, choose you'll reboot and install later, now you can extract it from the Cache folder.

keep in mind before anyone updates to the official jb. i suspect the official release will be patched to not allow us to return to ics. if you keep root after the update good but if you some how break root there might no be a way to get it back as of now! so be cautious before you accept update. we should at least wait for an official jb fxz if you plan on keepng root this way if you mess something up at least you will have a working phone back without root of course. again i dont know they will patch the official release to prevent downgrade but lets find out for sure to be on the safe side. i dont think were gonna get dan to make us a jb root method right away soon.....
It could be considering its small size. Those who have updated to JB OTA should install safestrap and make a backup.

That's not the official one... A leak update for a leak update is not the official OTA. The official package (if for some reason it is 98.4.20) will be the size of at least the 2 leak update.zips together. It is not a 10 MB change from ICS to JB. It's a 10 MB change from JB leak to JB leak.

Just to clarify for Pete.
We don't want your information stored on your phone.
1) Restore back to ICS using the "restore function" in SS3/TWRP
2) Do a Factory Data Reset in settings.... privacy..... Factory Data Reset (this will wipe all personal info from the phone).
3) After you've done a Factory Data Reset, do a backup in SS3/TWRP.
4) Zip up the folder that has the backup you just performed, and upload it to a file server somewhere.
5) Post the link in this thread.

What are my options to either get the OTA with root or disabling the update notification?

I would get the OTA with root. The camera and phone call difference really do show in my opinion.
To keep your root I would rsd back to stock. Download pwnmymoto and install it BUT don't run it. Just have it installed. Then update. After the update you can run pwnmymoto and you'll have root with the OTA. Jcase said this is the correct way to do it.

I will consider doing that, it's just a giant PITA since I will have start from scratch.. Coming from the S III and flashing a new ROM every day this is so different to me lol. There is nothing wrong with the stock ROM just regretting not waiting for the dev edition to be honest.. I still use my S III as a media player and lately have been thinking of switching back, just hoping we get 4.4 soon or something to make it a bit better.
I know safe strap is another option but haven't heard great things about it and back in the droid 3 days remembered using it.
Just backup your apps and restore after you're rooted again. No starting from scratch necessary. I used titanium backup and didn't have any issues.

Can you use the new FXZ to return to OTA'd stock if necessary down the road?

Yeah I might do that, I just don't have the time right now. I heard the OTA is a big improvement though. I wish I could be rooted with write access and no need for workarounds lol wishful thinking..
EDIT: Besides using safestrap

Yup, stock OTA, but you can't go back to a previous version

fyi. if you are on vzw then SS is an easy fix for you. The "not great things" you heard were just posts from when SS was having some problems. I have SS up and running with the new rom for vzw in a rom slot and flashed the new radios and everything is working perfectly. No problems for me at all. Also, tibu is really easy to use and will restore system data, your launcher and anything you want. Very minor things that you will need to screw with after using it. Takes about an hour and a half if you need to do things to your system after you start using the new rom. If you don't need to make any of those edits then it really only takes about 30 mins from installing SS to having the new rom running with all your settings and apps.

What about the limited space that is available when using SS?
Also idk If I want to RSD back to get the OTA seeing as "eventually" we will get 4.4 not sure what to do right now lol
I was thinking of trying out the SS OTA ROM but I really don't know also how did you flash the radios.. RSD?

if you are worried about space then just flash it to the stock rom. I have plenty of space. with 500 photos on it. I don't use music though. You don't have to rsd to get the ota. You can just flash the recovery.img if you didn't touch the system or flash the system.img as well if you need to using fastboot. Take some time to learn what fastboot and adb are and how to use them and you will be happy you did. Doesn't take much time at all. They are kind of the same thing, how they work at least.
Use fastboot when in fastboot mode. Use adb when the phone is just on normally. Then run appropriate commands. "adb reboot" "fastboot reboot"
here is a link on how to use adb and if you go through it and understand everything then you will also understand fastboot and fastboot will already be installed as well). Then you can take the ota without losing data and having to use RSD.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872128
As for the new radios, you will need to use fastboot. you flash the non-hlos.bin then erase modemst1 and modemst2 then flash the fsg.mbn. if you want help with it just send me a pm

Looks like WiFi isn't working on that ROM!?
Also could I restore my stock ROM to a ROM Slot on SS and then flash the OTA ROM over it?
This would not require TiBu or anything like that..
Just trying to figure the best and easiest way to do this.
Not sure bit if your on a slot it shouldn't hurt to try. I'd make a backup and put it on PC or the cloud to be safe.

So boot into SS, backup my stock ROM - save on my pc, then make a ROM slot in SS and restore the backup to the slot? Can you even do that lol
Then if all is well flash the SS OTA ROM on top and I SHOULD be okay..
Might give it a shot likely need to update SS idk what the latest version is

That is a big issue, I need WiFi working...
I finally got around to messing with SS and the OTA ROM and did a backup of my stock slot and flashed the ROM to it. everything was working but no WiFi and I can't deal with that =/
Ended up restoring my stock slot backup.
I did however manage to update the baseband, super easy!
EDIT: Flashed the ROM on XDA and now I have working WiFi, looks like the one on droidrzr didn't work for me.
EDIT: Per gharlane00's post below on 11/06/13, TiBu has apparently fixed this issue with a new release.
I found this out the hard way, but TiBu is broken on S4's that go to 4.3. Here's their warning:
http://www.titaniumtrack.com/latest-news/attention-samsung-s4-users.html
If you restore any apps with it, you'll get a security warning when running it, if it runs at all. I've been slowly restoring everything one app/setting at a time. Frustrating to say the least when I paid for TiBu to do it for me.
On this subject, does anyone know if just restoring the "data" from TWRP will just intall apps/settings from MF9 to MJA? I'd guess it's not a good idea, but curious if anyone knew for sure.

It borked my phone terribly. Got tired of uninstalling/reinstalling each app due to force closes. I then decided to wipe my phone and then it soft bricked.. been that way for 2 days. Avoid TiBackup like the plague until they resolve their issues.

Yep, happened to me to. To fix the issue, go back into stock recovery and do a factory reset. Or just forgot about Samsung's crappy update and flash an AOSP rom like I did.

I saw some were having trouble with TB so before I upgraded I backed everything up with TB, then I did a factory reset in recovery. I then odined the mf9 full tar file to bring me to completely stock. I then ran cf autoroot on the stock mf9. Loaded up TB and restored everything I wanted restored with TB. This left me with a stock rooted mf9 with all the apps and data restored. I then installed the MJA update using the stock recovery. This way I didn't have to restore my apps after the MJA update since I heard TB was not working right after the update. Hopefully this helps some people that don't want to lose their game progress or app data.
I've never been a fan of tb kinda glad now I've been using mybackup pro and everything went smooth for me

Sorry, a little confused by your answer. Are you saying after doing a stock recovery factory reset, TB would restore the apps for you? If not, what did you use to recover your apps (if anything worked for you at all)?

Sorry, I should've been clearer. Doing a factory reset allowed me to have a usable phone again. It didn't fix the problem of not being able to use TB.

The reason for this is selinux.
I'll post a flashable boot.img with the danged thing disabled tomorrow.

Can you give us more info on it? I can't find it in App Manager, etc. Thanks.
selinux is part of Linux. It wasn't present in earlier versions of Android. You won't find it in app manager because it's not an app.

I wasn't sure either... googled it. SELinux = Security-Enhanced Linux.
What caught my eye was that it was started by none other than the NSA back in 2000. You know, because the NSA is so concerned about making sure prying eyes can't get to your stuff.
I know it's open source and all, but still, makes ya think...
There is an app in the play store called TB restore fixer, it's supposed to solve the problem of restoring with TB on a 4.3 phone. It was written for the Note 3 but may work for us too.

From the reviews it sounds like it has fixed other S4 issues, so it should be safe
I just got an update to Titanium that supposedly fixed the problem with system apps (see changelog)

I don't think that new update (from today) fixed it, I just restored a backup for an app and it keeps telling me about there was an app it stopped for bad behavior. I also tried the TB restore fixer, didn't work for one app for me. I only tried one so far. I will try a couple more...

Never mind, the TB Restore Fixer did work. You still get a notification in the status bar but the application does not force close and you can continue to use it. I only got one notice. So after getting one notice, I cleared it and then went back into the app and didn't get a second notice. So that is better than nothing
---------- Post added at 03:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:27 PM ----------
One last update, so I force closed the app I restored, opened it up again and I did get the security warning again in the notification. But it is a small price to pay if you have an important app that you have valuable data that needs to be restored now.

TB Fixer worked for me.
Restored my phone log and old messages without a problem. Haven't been able to restore data on the few apps I tried.
Edit: I just tried TB Restore Fixer from the play store. I manually installed the app and used Fixer. It hung on the first attempt but had already applied the fix. After a reboot, the second app worked great.

Here's what i did and i kept everything. I was currently on a stock rooted mf9 rom, i downloaded the 1click odin stock mf9 Tar and flashed that to unroot myself and get rid of my custom recovery. This way, i didnt need a factory reset and all my apps and data were still there. Then i just downloaded the ota MJA and flashed that through the stock recovery thus getting me to MJA with everything working and my apps and data on there too. After that, i got some force closes cause NOVA u have to be rooted to use nova launcher. I then odin the CF-Auto root file and downloaded su from market and updated it. after that everything worked fine. for now im not going to risk getting any custom recoveries. So im just on stock rooted MJA for now and everything works good. If you guys would like me to post the links to the files i used. just quote me x).
