Hi,
I would like to ask you something about UCCW.
Browsing around the net I see that right now everyone is using UCCW for themeing; there are some homescreen that are almost done only using UCCW.
Personally I always had problem with that program; hotspot that disappear or do not work always properly (sometimes they rescale and change the location of where they are, sometimes they disappear and stuff like that), loosing of data that then has to be reconfigured and so on.
What I was then wondering is if I was the only one who have this problem because otherwise I will not understand why UCCW is used so much with homescreen that has maybe 15 hotspots where I had problems using just 3/4 of them (not creating the theme by myself but using other people file, mainly taken from http://mycolorscreen.com/ or from xda).
Do you think that it's a problem of my phone/rom and so I shall study better and try to configure it better or this people are reloading the UCCW file every few hours because it gives problem?
the problem occurs only after you resize widget when it's already visible, if you do it when it's just an icon with pointing finger and writes "touch here" under it, hotspots will stay intact
Amazing, that's probably the reason then, going to try it out
Thank you so much for the help

tried looking but no luck, i just want to put certain apps into one folder like spare parts, settings, etc. is there a way?
as it seems not at the moment, but i want this feature too. how is it possible to install an infinite number of applications but no way to organize the startmenu?
it would be nice....but in the meantime, there is an app in the market called aps organizer. you can assign different apps to different labels (and create your own labels), and then you can put shortcuts to those labels on your homescreen.
That way you get the folders (sort of) on your homescreen and don;t need to use the main menu. I think ive used the main menu about twice in the two weeks i've had it installed.
Given that the market is already split into categories I don't understand why this isn't implemented in the App menu. It IS quite annoying. Also, given that the market already has a categorization couldn't someone develop an app that Auto-sorts the menu. Gnome on Linux does a very good job of this, don't know about KDE...
This is one of my biggest gripes with my Hero. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to organization on my phone and computer. The sooner I can organize the programs more efficiently, the better! I'd really appreciate an app, update or custom ROM that could enable this.
I have folders on my home screen for different apps. but the main programs menu still bugs the hell out of me, especially when it displays things like font packs with the rest of my programs :S
Is it possilbe to clean up the start menu of the Sense UI? Like make folders for system tools, multimedia, games and so on. instead of having this endless list of apps. i always miss the app i am looking for, even that the are sorted a-z.
i am used to it from my old hd2 with win mob. you just make folders and move it where you want. but i dont know how about android handles this thing.
maybe somebody can help me.
Thanks
sorry i was doing some miss-spelling on the title, if some mod or admin would be so friendly and correct that please

As of yet I dont think there is a way and your best bet is to just create folders on your desktop and organise it that way. To be honest I would prefer the windows menu because I love organisation....unfortunately...the rest of windows mobile sucked...
Hope that helps.
i agree, that was the only positive thing on windows mobile. i had everything organized and could find everything in a few clicks. now i have to scroll up and down the list especially some programms have wired names, so i dont always remember them...
do you know a good folder programm?
i am trying right now "folder organizer lite" is there anything better, except the paid version of it?
I was a bit put out when I saw that the items are in one big list. Mind you, I've just come from having years of Nokia phones and if you don't use something very often it's a pain to remember which menu tree it's in so there are pros and cons.
What I've done is clear out the HTC stuff from each screen and arrange different *groups* of widgets on each. So 'media' (camera, music, etc) on one for example. System-type stuff on another (settings, brightness, etc etc).
Works for me but each to his own.

Use Folder Organizer it does a good Job for me you can find a free version on Market.
i am using folder organizer already and bought the full version. but it would be nice if i could get rid of this messed up menu.
i have just one question to folder organizer. how can i get or make my own folder icons. do they have to be in .ico format and where do i have to put them?
Why cant we create folders and push them to a home screen and use it, this can be better if i am not wrong! I am still new to android but i found this useful and easy to access my apps!
You can try "smart shortcuts" its a free app from market
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You can create folders on your home screen and put shortcuts to any apps within them. Just drag and drop. You can also rename folders by long-presing on the title bar of an open folder.
Alternatively, if you don't mind using a different launcher to HTC Sense you can get ADW.Launcher free from Market. This allows you to create 'custom catalogues' in the app draw. You can set it to have pagination buttons within the app draw to easily switch between the catalogues. You can, if you like, have one for games, one for navigation etc. It's not ideal but it works and ADW.Launcher is a great (and very customisable) launcher too.
Hope this helps.

So after some great help by gregbradley and others, I have a rooted T and now have an OTA 195 update.
However I have a couple of questions (apart from my continued quest to find a way to get the phone to save camera output in less compressed fashion.
1) Is it usual for mediaserver to be the 2nd great drain on battery after the screen and ahead of android system?
(there appear to be many web discussions on this, but I could not find a definitive answer. Mine has always been like this even before I tinkered with it, or before I put the sim in (I didn't put the sim in until after I had rooted and updated. I do not have an SD card in there yet (64Gb on order) and I have not added any new pics or movies to the stock provided ones.
2) Can you change where apps are installed? Can this be changed for Google Play apps (like xda) Is the default to install to "phone memory" rather than "internal storage". Given that "phone memory" is only ~ 2Gb, it would be good to install to "internal storage"
3) Are apps on the home screens (eg Walkman) always running, even when not in use (the walkman example is the app 4x1 icons wide and has basic controls on it)?
Many thanks as always!
icstm
some clarification I should have added yesterday...
1) quite simply I would be keen to know what type of apps call on the mediaserver process
2) I know that from the "apps" in settings" some apps can be moved, but that appears limited and no default can be set
3) when I say apps, I mean widgets and the like, not the simply shortcut icons

1) Anything that needs to scan the sdcards for contents will call on the media server. After a fresh flash many apps will be collating their cache so the mediaserver may have a high battery drain, you should never worry about battery drain untill you have run a ROm for at least 3-4 days to let it settle
2) Yes, use apps such as link2sd or app2sd, free in the market. However I have not yet felt the need to do this with a 16gb internal memory
3) Thos e widgets are just shortcuts, e.g. I have a weather app set to refresh every 2 hours...it will be woring in the background whether or not the homescreen widget is on the homescreen or not.
However, do not worry about task killers, since android 2.1 the best task killer is the one that comes with the OS. The only other exception is if you install init.d scripts and supercharge scripts etc, but you may want to leave that for a bit and get used to the phone first.
So I am on the xda app, much better way to view the site than mobile browser .
However, I cannot see what you wrote when I reply.
But it relates to your last point on making customisations. And not just keyboard which prefers US spellings over UK ones .
I am thinking of tinkering with the OS files as I am very upset with the compression of photos. So I am keen by what you say just below number 3.

AW: [Q] Couple of days in - a couple of Qs...
Change your keyboard or even better your whole phone to UK in language and keyboard setting and it'll propose BE instead of USE.
Greg is correct, the media server goes nuts the first two to three days after (re)flashing or taking up a device. You can improve the situation by keeping your folder structure clean and neat and trash out left over files, old garbage and file system junk.
Thanks for your posts in both threads.
As for mediaserver, yes all is quiet now.
Not sure about which system files to delete at this stage, but I sure do keep a neat folder structure for my content.
I saw a couple of people post about it here on XDA and on OnePlus Forums. I wanted to do this myself too for a while and finally got my hands to getting around to work on it.
I enjoy seeing a new wallpaper every hour or so, it does drain battery, but for me it is very aesthetically pleasing. However, I have not seen anyone be able to put a live wallpaper on the lock screen.
Yes, there is the option of getting CM and lock screen widgets, but I like the stock OS feel and it works fine IMO. After some digging around I finally got an idea on how to do it, but it still doesn't work or works in small parts.
(almost working) Guide for getting Live Wallpaper on Lock Screen : (I'll be using Muzei as the example but I'm sure it will work for other ones too)
1. The first thing to do is find the location of where the app stores the images. For Muzei it's in /sdcard/android/data/net.nurik.roman.muzei/cache/artcache/ . I am using the reddit plugin so there's an extra directory there. The files for Muzei are actually not saved as .jpgs, but if you convert them you can get the original image.
*From this point on I tried automating the process with tasker but it has had mixed results so I'll do it step by step manually.
2. You want to copy over the image from the directory where they are saved to /data/system/users/0/ . (you need explorer with root permission to do so). Inside this folder there are 4 important files. Namely "wallpaper" "keyguard_wallpaper" "wallpaper_info.xml" "keyguard_wallpaper_info.xml" The wallpaper file is the one on your home screen and the lock screen wallpaper is the keyguard.
3. Delete "keyguard_wallpaper_info.xml". Delete "keyguard_wallpaper". Next, rename the image to "keyguard_wallpaper" and save it just as is without any extension. Change the permissions to 707 (-rwx---rwx) and change owners to system. Reboot and voila you changed the wallpaper.
With an automated program like tasker this process should be automatic. Once a new wallpaper is updated it shows up in the directory and triggers the process. You delete the old keyguard_wallpaper. Move the new image to the directory and rename it. Delete it from the original wallpaper directory. Change permissions and it should work. However, it does not. even if you do it manually, the lock screen resets to the stock OP Never Settle lock screen. This is where I need help. I don't know why it resets, and where could I possibly find the file that is doing this? I pretty much debloated the phone even removing oneplus stuff but there still seems to be something on a deeper level. If you know how to fix this it would be great if you could share as I hope to help some people. Any feedback on layout of the post, on using tasker, and on anything else is much appreciated.
Cheers.
It doesn't work for reading pdf's, but Perfect Viewer is perfect for reading zip or rar files filled with jpgs (or cbz/cbx files, of course). All the better if these are black and white, like manga! Turn on landscape mode for the best experience, and I recommend setting up the touch spaces like in the attached image.
Thing is, setting up the touch spaces is no easy feat, as the dialogue to select a different function is white text on a white background. I attached a backup of my settings file to get my screen setup (1-04-16.xml). Place this on your sd card /PerfectViewer/Preferences, then in the app go to Preferences management and load up the file.
I'm not sure if the attached version of the apk is the latest one to still work with the NST's Android version, but this one works fine. Be sure to turn on "Auto detect page border" for optimal use of the NST's screen real estate.

Yep, that's the last version that works on the NST. Back in the day I used it for comics as well and found it the best for my purposes. And as you say, the PDF plugin for that version crashes.
The menu issue is a common one with many apps not designed for e-ink screens. Colors that developers have used are mostly defaulted to either black or white (sometimes you get lucky with a grey of some kind). Someone on one of the Russian forums where the NST is popular developed an alternate set of background images for the framework-res.apk. When these are substituted for the stock images the background of all menus (including B&N menus) are either slightly or more than a little darkened so that even white text will show up against them. At one time I used the slightly darkened images as I seemed to have a lot of apps that I could not read settings for. Over the years and as my use and configuration of my NSTs evolved there seemed to be fewer of these and so finally I just left the default backgrounds when I updated to FW 1.2.2
Of course, you can always install the app that you can't see menus for on another (non-e-ink) device and use that as a guide until you get things set up the way you like.

Right! I think that's how I went about it with these settings, too. I don't remember, it's been four years [emoji28]
I recently got into manga a little, again, so I dusted off this app and decided to share it here.
