how well does your phone respond to shocks - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

how many times have you dropped your phone abd survived
do you use any protection
where can I find stylish cover for my phone

I've dropped my phone countless times but I got a silicone back cover so no harm can be done. I don't use a screen protector. You can find some stuff for our phone on Ebay

I drop it like everyday ! .. even have my glass chirped near back soft key :'(
and, I sometimes use a back cover but, always a screen protector

First thing i do to every phone is put a screen protector and a protective case.... TPU cases offer great protection and little bulk (i dont like silicon as it is very sticky and you cant get the phone out of your pocket)

Got this since it came out. No screen protector coz i hate them, and my screen looks better withiut them. I used to have body cover too but now not anymore.
Couple of drops here and there. Once it went face down on a road. I forgot i put it on my lap and when i step out of the car... Bam! Haha no scratches though, surprisingly. But it chipped my back cover. Lol

Dropped once time. One scratch on the edge, no protection used.

Countless times, really, and got no silicon hoose or something.. Got all kinds of paint damages.. But yeah. It is a usage device so thats normal i guess

Man, i use a TPU cover and an "Invisible Shield", both bought at ebay.
The TPU cover helps to prevent damage to the device as a whole while the Invisible shield protects effectively the phone screen (is made of a military material).
You can find those at the links below:
TPU Case: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250753752797&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Screen Protector: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220728211467&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Responding to your question: Yes! Definitely i think it's a best idea to have a cover and a screen shield, because otherwise your device will have a few scratches as the time goes by, even if you don't drop it accidentally. (IMO)
I have a protector on the back plastic cover but NO protector on the screen. I never use phone case. I always put the phone in my pants or jacket pocket. 3 months on & the screen is still like new.
Right now I'm using front and back but I want to take the front off just because the edge of the sheild getscrap on itand it annoys me

I roll au naturale.
Every time I get a new phone I usually end up spending over $60 on cases and screen protectors at the store, and within hours I just want to take them off.
So, this time... bareback.
No scratches on the screen, minor scuffs and micro scratches on back, one small indent on bezel. Dropped once onto linoleum.. no signs of damage.
Does the xtreme guard fit perfectly on the phone? I bought a 5 pack of some others on ebay, and they don't lay down all the way on the top and bottom of the phone. Because of the curve I'm guessing.
Also, is it a dry application?
On topic - I bought the phone last week and havent been using a screen protector. When I'm not using it it goes back into my belt holster case.

Ditto and 2 months here. Not a scratch on the phone. There is a scuff on the lip around the edge from when I slipped on ice and the phone went flying and landed screen down.
The my phone is naked, always Don't have one scratch or issues with dust etc.
Never use any covers or anyting. And its always like new, just dont put your phone and keys in the same pocket ant it'll be scratchless

Same here. No screen protector, no case!!!!!!
Really? I want to go naked but I'm too scared to. It feels like its going to slip out of my hands. But none of the cases do the phone justice. It just looks so nice naked.
And the screen protector...I have one and its annoying cuz it gets oily and smudges all over. But this phone is my baby and I don't want to scratch it.

not sure whether to stay naked or cover up ;-)
Had my NS for a few weeks (and lovin' it)
First I bought a leather flip case, then thought . . . why cover up such a sexy looking phone?
then after another week I got worried again and ordered a "S" curved gel case (that looks just as good as the phone), along with a car connector and a screen protector . . .
then struggled to get the case on ! (it's not gel it's plastic) and so stiff I'm scared I might break the screen whilst pushing the phone into it
and I always seem to get specks of fluff and little hairs under the screen protectors, so I haven't put that on yet
but so far my NS screen and body has remained scratch-free and shiny

It's a phone, do you want to preserve it perfectly for the next 2 years so that the person you sell it to benefits while you suffer with a bulky case and crappy screen protector? I've dropped mine on the bathroom tile screen down and there was no damage to the screen (some slighty scuff on the plastic). You're meant to use these things, not baby them, it's a TOOL. You'll get a new one in 1-2 years (less if you're like me lol).
Using ghost armor (invisible shield) on the screen otherwise its bareback. Keep it now in a plastic belt clip that newly came out on eBay. Funny thing...Sprint don't even have the holster for this new phone

Ctai. Wow. I always looked at nexus S as my phone (captivate) on steroids...unbelievable how they dont have g glass OR external sd. Back to topic...DEFINITELY use a quality screen protector. Otterbox commuter cases are usually pretty good looking and come with screen protectors. I have a cappy with g glass and would NEVER sport it without the proper profilactics.

I, personally, will NEVER use a screen protector. When I see friends of mine with a screen protector on their phone, it looks so ugly!
It might not be Gorilla Glass (although I doubt Gorilla Glass is more scratch resistant than 'normal' glass), but it does have this curve in the screen, and I tell you: that helps a lot.

How reliable is the gorrila glass?

Hey guys, I just took my screen protector off today because it was getting dirty. But im wondering, can I really just go without the screen protector? How reliable is the gorrilla glass on this thing? I wonder if Rogers even put gorilla glass on the captivate phones. Anyway, what are peoples experiences without using a screen protecotr?
I have never had an issue other than fingerprints.
I am careful though and do not put it in a pocket with anything metal.
i was wondering the same thing a while back then i found this:

After almost 14 months use including dropping it on pavement several times (always find your phone before you get out of your truck ), throwing it in my front pocket with keys, etc., I have two or three tiny scratches that you have to look for.
Pretty impressed with the durability but I also consciously avoid doing the previously mentioned "oops" actions.
Never have used a screen protector, throw it into my pocket - "usually" without keys or coins. My screen looks the same as the day I brought it home - wonderful stuff this gorilla glass.

i have used the generic screen protectors, that are super cheap but dont cover the entire front of the screen just fits over the display area, i took that off a few days ago cause i realized the ares not covered (the top and bottom) are completely new looking. finger prints and smudges a a P.I.T.A. but the glass feels SOOO smooth compared to the protector...
btw this is a question...they usually go in the Q&A section....
I took scissors to my screen.. Pretty good, too.. Scratched that thing, and even heard some 'scratching' 'oh no, I musta scratched it' sounds while doing it.. It came out completely clean.
I have also dropped it from about 6 feet, having it land on a corner.. and all it did was put a dent in the corner.. (This happened a couple of times)
This phone is almost indestructible.
No screen protecter here and has been threw some crap and.looks.brand new...my sis had one but in my own opionion it took away from the badass display

I have one SLIGHT scratch that you really have to look for.
Don't set it on table tops screen faced down(that's just dumb)
Make it a rule of thumb to keep your phone in a pocket for itself with nothing else in it
Just take care of it, the rest takes care of itself.
I've had mine almost a year without a protector and it looks brand new. And I'm kinda hard on my phones.
Almost been a year now with no screen protector just some surface scratches but nothing major. As for screen protectors go i hate them. They collect dust and scratch super easily well worth it if you dont have a phone with gorilla glass but not worth it with the captivate.
Just wish they had made the body out of something else because it scratches real easy but a simple $1 case fixed that
Can't stand screen protectors. Have had no scratches yet. I work construction often digging trenches, and have pulled my phone our of my pocket that was full of sand and rocks. Still looks brand new.
I do use a body glove case because without it, I have a hard time holding the phone

Mine's naked too and it looks brand new. But there are scratches nevertheless. Micro ones that most lighting doesn't seem to reveal. It's weird but here in the office, I can't see any scratches at all. Good lighting. But when I use it at church, for some reason, the overhead lights show tons of scratches.
No screen protector, just the Body Glove Mirage skin shown here: http://www.amazon.com/Body-Glove-Mirage-Samsung-Captivate/dp/B0040M7H96
I generally throw it in the pocket opposite the one with my keys, but it does get thrown in with other stuff, like sunglasses, usb sticks, etc. Had it for over a year now and no scratches. Very resilient. Protectors definitely take away from the beauty of the screen, but it really depends on how hard you are on your phone.
No screen protector here. I somehow have a scratch on the screen though. Not sure how that happened but it isn't too noticeable and life goes on.

Screen Scratches

When I bought my phone,I ordered a full InvisibleShield from mobileden.co.uk for 20 pounds. It has been about 3 months and nothing arrived, they are not responding to emails and my screen has been scratched more that a lottery ticked in a retirement home...
Does anyone know a way to fix these,or maybe I can order another Invisibleshield that can cover these up,I cant find it in Montenegro,so how about a site with shipping?
If Im right, there should already be a factory fitted screen protector on the play. Try removing it, and try ordering off Amazon.co.uk for a new one.

There's actually one under that, it's got a great fit to it and you can't even tell it's there. If you look where the buttons meet the glass you can see there's a film on the screen. It's not really a screen protector it's a film they put on to prevent the screen from shattering if you dropped your phone kind of like safety glass in your car windshield it will still break but it doesn't let the glass fly. The problem with it is it's super soft so it picks up a ton of scratches. I recommend removing it and if you want apply a real screen protector that won't pick up scratches. Like I said it isn't really a screen protector just a soft piece of thin vinyl that scratches like crazy. To get it off get a pin or tack and pick away at it by the search button and once you get it lifted a little you can just peal it off with no problem. The mineral glass underneath is pretty dang scratch resistant but once that crappy film is off you can apply a proper protector with ease. Hope that helps some

Thx,as soon as I get an InvisibleShield I will peel it off. Maybe I should sue mobileden for fraud?
Here is what it looks like when removing the factory vinyl. I had to use a thumb tack to get it started. I pushed down hard on it to get it started, and it did not harm the glass, but the vinyl scratches easily.
Edit: ack, the camera really captures the lint. I will say the colors are much more vibrant with that vinyl off. I should have taken a before and after pic of that.

I hate the Zagg "invisible" (quite the opposite) shields. The material is so uncomfortable I would take scratches on the screen instead every day of the week. Those shields are soft plastic of some sort and the fingers almost gets stuck on them while swiping (lots of friction). No smooth movement because of that and the image gets a lot more distorted than with the original screen protector on.
I really like the original screen protector as you can hardly tell it's there and it feels good on the finger. I regreted I ever removed mine and bought new original ones and am a happy camper again. They protect against speckles very well too which the Zagg ones doesn't do either. The Zagg shields are the most uncomfortable ones I have ever used and it's hard to get it on without getting bubbles and leftovers from the liquid that distorts the image even more.
I think it's the shatter proof one that's picking up most my scratches. Can somebody post a video of peeling it off? I see a very thin line with less than a millimeter gap between the phone edge and this protector. Can somebody confirm that it's the protector I'm looking at?

Anyone else leaving the back protective film on permanently?

I must say, unlike the protective film found on previous phones I have purchased, the back and front protective film on the N4 were applied flawlessly. Obviously the front film had to go due to the power and volume button labels (without the labels I probably would have left it on as well). However, the back one is applied so perfectly that I have been hesitant to remove it. I like the idea of keeping it applied to the phone to prevent scratches while laying the phone down. To me this seems to be a great alternative to paying money for an aftermarket skin or an obnoxious case.
Anyone else doing the same?

I've been pulling mine in and out of my pocket countless times since I received the phone and have had absolutely no issues with it catching anything.
just got XOSkins one the back and front, get it while its not scratch or weep when sand gets to your phone first
I was planning to keep it on, but then just one day it all peeled off without warning.
This is something I have always been in the habit of doing despite having screen protectors in hand. After dropping my phone 2 ft and the screen spidering (yr later w/ screen protector), I have begun to live and die by otterbox cases despite their size. I did drop countless times over a year period without breaking the screen but the wear was there in other ways. The cases are not water proof / or extremely resistant by any means but their isn't a scratch on my device since. Just needs a thorough cleaning on interval. Not too expensive either, about $25 online. Best thing I have done for my phone since claiming through insurance. After further review, despite the films, my front and rear bezels are very worn in the areas where the films didn't cover. No shock resistance offered by the flimsy films as the phone is likely to eventually take a spill to the ground or two. Good luck

Strassern

I left the back one on too. I use Diztronic's TPU case so I see no reason to pull it off since it will prevent scratches when something gets inside the case.

My first Nexus 4 back protective film started to peel within a few days, as did my replacement Nexus 4. Wish they'd have stayed on, if it wasn't for that little tab there for convenience' sake! haha ah well, looking for a decent tempered glass protector for front and back now!

That's the same thing I did. Just got my Diztronic case in today and cleaned any prints off the protective film and put on the case. All those that said they took off the protective film will be on here posting sob stories like many others are currently doing. I might add I take care of my stuff. I just now switched from my Vibrant that I've owned since launch and at still looks and works awesome (only because its running Paranoid). Only had a SGP case on it and never a screen protector and it only has a very tiny scratch that you can't even see unless you angle the phone just right and have enough light hitting it.
Still have my front and back ones on. I got a bestskinever but haven't gotten around to applying it yet. For now the factory ones are fine, and it's fun to watch people try to tap the little power icon on the protector and then get frustrated when the screen doesn't turn on

the phone attracts a lot less finger prints without the plastic on it. I had left both on initially but got tired of the finger prints. once I took them off I was surprised how finger print resistant it is, way better then my galaxy nexus. the back was also less "slippery" without it.
My ocd took it off seconds after unboxing.

How is your G2 holding up without a case?

Thinking about going naked. Haven't found a case that keeps it slim. All cases I've tried add too much bulk.
Mine fell out of my shirt pocket on Christmas day and cracked the screen. It was $125 for a new one overnighted from CA. I had ordered a case but it hadn't arrived yet. The screen didn't come with the middle housing so you can see where it hit the ground on the plastic. I'll worry about that when its time to get rid of the phone.

I'm keeping screen naked. Definitely not case. Rather have a tiny bulk than 3 foot drop shatter/crack. Slim/feather doesn't even protect much. I wound up sticking with Verizon TPU/OG Incepio. Better for me my phone travels through some rough times, personal and work lol.
No way, if i didnt had a case mine would be dead right now. It felt From my ear/shoulder position when i was talking and opening my car.

Mine broke completly after falling from about 30 cm, I'm buing case for sure
This phone is too slippery without a case I'm not taking any chances with it. I have the Spigen Slim armor case with Zagg HD screen protector and it looks beautiful and feels great. I ran my G Pro naked but at least that phone was easier to grip since it was larger. To those running no screen protection good luck. It's only a matter of time before it's scratched and scuffed and ugly. The glass screen protector on my G Pro was scratched to hell after just a few weeks in my pocket and I don't stuff anything in the same pocket as my phone except for maybe paper cash or receipts. I babied that phone. My keys never shared the same pocket. I've never seen any screen stand up to regular use after a while without any sort of protection.
I'm using an xtremeguard skin and screen protector. That helps with the slippery back. Not that helpful with actual impacts, but fine for scratches and things.
Side note: use code: 90off2 for 90% off 2 or more items right now (unknown expiration). Two sets of L2 G2 skins and screen protectors comes out to $2.20 after shipping right now.
One month in naked screen. I try and be careful. Not saying it won't happen, but so far so good. I have yet to find olive I like and won't lift with TPU or bubble at edge. :/
I ordered a wallet case for my G2, but have been rocking he naked look for a month now. No complaints here, but there are moments when I need a case (at the club)

Screen seems very weak on this phone already scratched 2 of them. On my third already. No idea how first happened, had the window case on and got one dead center of the screen. Next one was from just flipping the phone over to snooze alarm on my nightstand. Keep trying screen protectors but hate the feel of them and like how this phone feels naked. Prolly gonna have to force myself to keep a screen protector on at least this time and prolly the case.

Using a Fosmon I got off ebay for 3.95. I hated the way this phone felt without a case.
I'm using the Nillkin Dolextech, and while it does not add much bulk, it will protect it from scratches and dents if it lands on a corner or back.
It also has a Nexus 5'ish feel, with a pattern on the back for better grip. It also comes with a screen protector, which while not being the best quality, is fine for protection against scratches.

Id never run a phone without one.

Dropped the phone once without the but no damage. I usually make sure I have a sturdy grip on the phone. Also I don't let my phone go without knowing for sure I'm actually putting it in my pocket.... Lol.
The case looks nice. But still rocking the naked look.

Ahh I know that feeling. You think you've put it in but nop, gravity hates us all.
Had the phone for well over a month now. No case or screen protector. Phone lives in my pocket whilst I'm at work (I work with fibreglass, resins, cardboard packing and general lifting), comes to the pub, friend's houses for drinks and shenanigans. So far so good. Still looks new.
