Poor Video Codec Support? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For some reason, the HTC One seems to have poor video codec support. My Galaxy Nexus seems to be able to play 1080p mkv smoothly while on the HTC One it doesn't seem to play at all. MX Player and mono player play them but not smoothly. Anyone got recommendations?
List of Players:
Dice Player - Crashes
MX Player - Laggy
Mobo Player - Laggy
V Player - Laggy
BS Player - Smooth

Have you tried BS player?

Nice find, never heard of that one but its playing things smoothly. Any others you recommend? (not to be picky but don't really like the interface )

You could try XBMC or VLC. Both players are in beta and I have not tried them recently. XBMC was working pretty well when I last tried it on my tablet. They had just gotten the hardware acceleration working properly.

MX Player, the best one hands down

VLC seems to be improving, with HD decoding turned on the largest nightly seems to work pretty well. Thanks again

really cool player!
vPlayer Advanced is the only player that could play HD mkv files flowlessly -but unfortunately with no subtitle- .
moboplayer played them with software decoding but with low fps so the audio was faster than the picture.
RockPlayer and vPlayer were very bad for HD videos (software decoding mode)
V player has a trial period which expires then you have to cough up . . V Player Advanced is free, don't quite know whats going on there?
VPlayer Advanced is another application that has developed by different developer, maybe that's why it was removed from the market!
I recommend rock player.

Yes, MOBO PLAYER is best !

Video players

Hello everyone....
Seems you too are facing problems with your ICS build on nexus s for playing HD videos.... many players out in market are having codec problem and the stock player really sucks...
So, lets see what others are using???////

MX Video player updated to ICS. At least it works with software rendering mode and shows lagging video for 720p. I got almost all other videos working perfect.

Dice player best video player now free with ads

Dice player has removed 3 day trial and is now ad supported, the ads are unobtrusive also runs great on ice, plays everything I throw at it so far and in hw acceleration

Just tried MX Player on my new Xoom 2, because VPlayer wasn't working, and I find it great so far. Have you tried it?
vplayer and daroon player are the best for streaming but dice is best for local hd content

MX is the best non-proprietary video player I've used . I wish Google incorporated all of the standard video codecs and made a solid video app. One of the few things I miss from Touchwiz is that the stock video player could play any file without having to re-encode. Also, the video never stuttered or pixelated. MX is the closest thing I've come to the stock Samsung app.

MKV are slow and laggy

I was extremely surprised that MKV do not work on the HTC Raider. My old SGS could do it I wonder why HTC did not make codecs for it.
I tried MX player and it loads both subtitles and video but is so laggy and slow since it software decode.
I tried to get the arm7 codecs but they did not work. Anyone know more on how to get MKV on the Raider?
Dice Player.

thank i will try it.
Convert them with handbrake to mp4, pay for the pro version of mx player and use it to play the files.

Too much unnecessary converting, mkvs can play, and you just need to search for the one you like best from the market.

I bought streamers specifically with MKV support so i don't have to convert otherwise I would have just used Handbreak and used my Xbox/PS3. When i had the the SGS i never had issues since it natively supports MKV, to bad HTC does not include this. I never want to convert formats ever again.
Funny thing is the few anime episodes i tried where high bit encodings, tried some regular 720P and it played it just fine.
Mxvideo player works with subs when i watch bleach anime (720p mkv format)
Yeah MX is very good, I have some anime that is very laggy. I guess it varies from encoder to encoder.
Dice player is not polished and i hate the ads, plus it still lagged when playing that MKV.
After trying about 10 players with the same laggy MKV. The 2 best players I find are:
MX Video Player by MX TECHNOLOGIES
MoboPlayer by Mobo Team
The troublesome MKV lagged badly with MX but played perfectly with Mobo.
Bsplayer is the best I've found so far.plays 720 visa no prob

I am trying to use BSPlayer (latest) on a HTC Vivid with 720p MKV streaming from my NAS, it's not even watchable. Yet on my SGS3 plays no problem. Same player, same MKV file, same NAS.

what is the best video player out there for my 8.9?

that play the most codecs and able to play most of the formats from the web? name your app. some of the porn videos i downloaded to my 8.9 from my pc can't play...lol.
I find bsplayer has best hardware decoder support. I prefer the ui of mxplayer
I bought and use MX Player Pro. I like the swipe controls to adjust volume and position.

I can second this. BS player can hw decide files that mx player only sw decodes. But the interface for mx is much better, so I end up using mx must of the time.

mxplayer has been updated couple days ago, and now has a better HW+ decoder. It does hw decoding on files it didn't do before...
