My phone gets really hot so it the battery or the phone. And what is a bad temp for the battery. I want to keep an eye on it when it gets hot. Now it gets hot mostly when im on 3g.

I know I get a really hot phone at times. Playing dungeon defenders or watching netflix, I've actually had my phone lock up a couple times with extended use. Had to pull the battery (Using the extended battery) to reboot. When I had the back off, the battery was warm, but not hot. Almost all the heat was coming from the bottom left corner of the phone (Assuming thats where the processor is).
I've got the clamshell case/holster combo I use, so i figure the case is holding in heat and making my problem worse.
My phone gets a little warm too, but it'll usually cool down when I'm not messing with it. If you have a lot of social networking apps or things running in the background updating automatically (push vs 10, 15, 30, 60 min) then it can get warm.
I only have two social apps updating and only every hour. Its seems that it does it when in on the enternet and checking my forums app. But even then im only on them for a few minutes. I think it get too hot to quick. I can handle some heat but not that much. Im just to figure out if I need to take my phone back for a new on. But im going to wait a few more days to see if it settles down.

My phone seems to run pretty warm, however the temp is only 38 degrees, which is well within acceptable limits.

Yeah, my phone is hot. Oh, you mean temperature-wise? Sorry, I was thinking sexy hot as in the design.
For real though, it does get hot, but rarely. Only does when I bluetooth tether internet while charging at the same time. Otherwise, it runs pretty cool (and still sexy).
Yes, I just called my phone sexy.
Try taking the sim card out. Mine would get pretty hot before, but ever since, it hasn't gotten near as hot. Even while playing Dungeon Defenders.
I have a battery widget with the temps on it so I can keep an eye on my temps and even though I did not use my phone that much to day it still got up to 107 at one time. I was on 3g with full bars. What's to hot ? Now im sure its not the battery getting hot but the bottom of the phone. So is that just as bad or is that ok?

I believe that's where the processor is. And I think it can go easily 10-15 degrees higher than the battery without an issue. I think. Not 100% on that though.

On a scale of 1 to 5. How hot does your phone run?
Normal -1
Watching movie on mxplayer - 2
Browsing on dolphin hd - 3 to 4
Browsing and charging at the same time - a good 5

Oh my goodness I think I posted in the wrong topic.

nobody???
?
I find mine is generally quite cool & only gets slightly warm when charging & browsing at the same time.
Compaired to previous phone I've had, I find it one of the coolest.
Yup its gets warm while playing some games and while charging...and its only warm around the camera...and the upper part of the screen also gets warm....
anyone else..??
Are you all on stock rom? Mine is ultra hot when using and charging . . browsing especially
Mine goes quite hot whenever I do intense stuffs on my note.
It's scary that it is so hot
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
Mine only gets "hot" (a slight increase) when i'm charging it and gaming at the same time. But i won't call it hot hot.

Yup...i'm on stock...2.3.5...so does your note get warm/hot at the upper part of the screen..??
I managed to get mine above 5o degrees celsius yesterday. There is an app called "Stability Test" on the market in case you too would like to get yours warm for these gloomy winter evenings
Im on 2.3.6 KK9 and it runs significantly cooler than my old SGS2. The only time its even warm is when charging and playing a game.
Same here. Charging and doing stuff makes it hot. Really scary. My hd2 isn't this hot.

Heater
I was using my Note yesterday at work with no problems. Today while I was at work I could feel the heat on my leg from the phone in my pocket! I freaked out and I find out that it heats up and powers off. I have to hold power to get it running again. Checking the temperature in "spare parts" battery info it was upper 30 degrees celsius. Sitting beside me now it's 29. Super scary. I don't want to have to return my phone. I have the abyssnote kernel with Romow rom.
I was gaming yesterday and SGN reached 56*C...
Abyss 1.4 kernel and 1.7GHz @ 1.4v

what's the documented (manual) upper limit of these batteries?
I live in a hot country I'm really worried that the hard work I put my phone through and the climate is going make my phone go Fukushima on me...

I would like to know too. Actually, I guess the upper limit of the processor would be good to know too, but too bad we can't directly access those temps since I guess there isn't a CPU temp sensor. I tried looking around through Samsung's site & CPU spec sheets and can't find anything of use about operating temperatures. While gaming and not charging mine can get up to 46c and the phone becomes quite warm/hot to the touch.
I've got FM 2.0 Kernel on Cassies Lite ROM. I have it overclocked to 1.6Ghz and undervolted each step by roughly 25mV (couldn't do much more than that.)
I'm a bit worried and actually a bit disappointed that it seems I have to limit my usage of the phone incase it goes into meltdown. I have profiles set to reduce the max clock when the battery reaches certain temps, but I'm afraid that might not be enough.
Mine can get very uncomfortably hot if charged and have GPS app running for an hour. Usually in that case, I underclock it to 500mhz, which is fast enough to run the app and play music in the background smoothly
It gets quite hot with 3D gaming over long session too, but bearable to hold in a case, but you can feel the heat on the screen, usually underclock to it 800mhz to 1ghz in this case.
Anyone else having that happen ? Is it normal , it shows up to 109 .x f somtimes on the battery wiget .

yeah, it's a hot phone...
not nearly as bad as the Nitro, but it does get quite warm.
It's worse if you're charging while using it.
Mine only gets realy hot on the net like when downloading or when its trying to connect it the server and having tower issues and it keeps loading and loading is when I've seen it hit the 109 mark .
Yep, mine flat out quit on me and reboot itself it got so hot. I was listening to music and surfing the web at the same time for about 20 min. I felt it getting warm but figured it wouldn't be a big deal but it was. Multi tasking while charging with WiFi on is by far the worst though. I have to pace myself now.
Yep, same here. And the rebooting thing is anoying. I need to leave the phone alone with battery out to cold it out and then I can return to use it. I think this is somehow related to kernel.
I got one of those SaFPWR Fusion 2 cases with mine, with the 18,000milliAmp extra battery built in.
It seams like it gets pretty warm too when surfing the net.
Somewhat expected though, using a duo core processor with no fans.
But yeah, it seams like the heat comes directly from the battery locations.
Anyone else get this case/extra-battery?
I am glad I'm not alone I'll call cs to ask about it.

Temperature Setting on the Battery Widget
My HTC battery widget shows the temp in centigrade. I could not find a setting anywhere to change it to Fahrenheit. Any suggestions? Thanks

Yes. There's a reason that they made the backplate out of aluminum and not plastic.

I've got one too. I'm not sure i like it. I was expecting this to last all day with heavy use but no. It was fully charged at 1pm and phone shut it self off at 9:40. I was surfing and was streaming music for about 3 hours non stop but after that i hardly used it. Not sure if I need to do more cycles on it to get full capacity but as it stands now I think I'm going to return it.
My experience is similar. I had it for a day, but the moderate gain wasn't worth the heft.
Instead, I have plenty of chargers and an external auxiliary battery for the rare occasion I won't be near AC.

Hello, I new in Note and I just did battery calibration with battery calibration app. I was playing GTA VC about 50minutes and get about 40percent battery drop. Im with Slim Bean latest ROM and hydracore latest kernel , on lowest brightness and on 1ghz CPU speed. But I think is battery drain, how think you?
looks like screen was on for around 2 hrs and it dropped from 100 to 40 %.. looks ok to me though

So I can use my Note just for 4hours with screen on? Its not very long :/
Yes. Seems that's the full screen on time
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
No, you can extend screen on time by doing nothing on the phone. But you have to make it so the screen wont turn off after X amount of seconds/minutes..
well you can switch of mobile network and wifi, screen brightness, that will give you more. But generally no. The battery is small compared to fullscale tablets, but they dont pack a mobile network that uses a lot of energy.
Im always switched off mobile data, use lowest screen brightness, sometimes little check up emails with wifi, play little games and it last about 4 hours screen time on.
50mins playing VC and 40% battery drop...? No need to worry it's rather normal
I just asking because I new in high screens phones and now I understand that it takes alot of battery power for screen like this
I walso want to ask is it normal that when I charging my note with original wall charger, phone in charging mode is automaticaly little warmer, like 2-5 C more like not charging. and also games feels little laggy when charging and also for example when I play order and chaos with mobile data on not charging phone it gets ~45C warm but when charging it become 59-60 C hot Is it bad? does it gonna fry little bit?
lol what kernrl are your running
Play airport city game for 1hour and u will get 65 percent battery drop.... With a temperature 65'C and then connect your charger... It will say unable to charge due to high temperature....

Okay, so just received my nexus 6 yesterday. it seems to get pretty warm while charging and playing simple games like crossy roads for around 10, the battery temperature goes to 42-4 degrees celcius. and while charging it also goes to around 41-42.
could this be due to the fact that this is a new phone and the phone is taking time to do its starting operations. will this problem eventully go away. i also updated to android 5.1
Hope i get a solve for this.
The app i use to monitor this is CPU Temp(also includes battery temp).

If using the quick charger, the phone will get hot. Especially when playing a game and charging

On the Turbo charger the first two step of the whole charge cycle are at a higher power 14.4W each the last is only 8W. More power more heat dissipation-especially if your using data and your processor is working hard, then it can get really hot. Toward the end if the change cycle it is considerably cooler-especially is your not doing anything in the phone.
Edit: I forgot in use the CPU can ramp up and get hot/warm(depending on how heavy the use(some "simple" games may have more running in background perhaps-like ads and such) but is pretty normal) but even more so if your on WiFi or data too.
Any phone gets hot while playing games and charging at the same time... The nexus 6 is actually pretty good with its heat compared to other Nexus phones.

Bro i wasnt charging and playing at the same time. When charging i keep the phone aside. Then it gets hot. Even while playing 10 mims of candy crush it gets upto 42 degrees celcius of the battery.
I had heat issues at first. I'm assuming all the app restoring I was doing was the culprit. I did decrypt my phone the very next day and it runs pretty cool
