Unfortunately, you cant use IMEI number to Track your phone. If you had a Samsung Accound linked with your phone, you can track it by Samsung Dive, it will turn on the GPS and 3G and give you an exact location of your device, also you can lock it or delete everything inside, see the last calls, etc.

If it says is offline maybe the phone is turned off or its hard reseted (wiped) and lost samsung account... As i know (not 100% sure), police can put your imei in a "database" or something else and see the propietarty info (Name, last name, Document, etc) but they cant track a phone like a car. Anyway i guess they will dont track your phone if you lost it or if stoled it, it will track it if someone did an homicide or a crime and they want to find who did it. Sorry man, that its everything i know, but dont lost hope, report it to the police and call your carrier for more help.
Good luck!

Please help me!!! :(

Hi all!
I am in a deep trouble.... I have an unlocked t-mobile google g1 that I am currently using in Pakistan. till yesterday it was working fine but when I restored it to factory settings I had to login using my gmail account...
I entered my username and password but it said that "There is a problem communicating with the google servers"
I have searched a lot but only found that you need a data plan....! I don't know what kind of data plan people are talking about! I don't either have a t-mobile sim....
My questions are:
1. What kind of data plan is needed for login? if its the normal internet that we can connect having the internet settings then I do have a data plan but I dont actually have the "internet settings" for login.....! please guide me people
2. is there any way to get root access without getting to the home screen? (I mean on the screen where it asks for the login)
3. EARLIER I WENT THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I TRIED TO DOWNGRADE TO RC29 but I went to the market, the phone repairer said that he will need to unlock the phone again for which he took heavy money. But I think actually he bluffed me. I dont think I needed to unlock it again. I think he just logged in through some way (I dont know)
Please guy help me pleaseeee
hey i'm from Pakistan too
There is no prob wid ur phone actually the shopkeeper really bluffed u , u might not wanna do that again ...
Data plan is the gprs settings for your network provider ,
tell me what Sim are u on and i'll give u the settings
When the phone boots up and asks u to login in gmail just press menu and it will show wireless settings enter them and u'll be having options of access points name enter in and there u have to put the settings and then login
Don't worry its very much simple and if u have any other probs ask me , i'm always available
Oh sauud bhai thanks alot!! You saved my Rs.500! beleive me I was so fed up. I don't know why the hell I didnt try that menu key
Although I tried all other keys but, unluckily, not the menu one and yeah you are true, the shopkeeper bluffed me very badly *faltu me 500 charge kiye or ooper se 3 ghantay ka time dia k dobara unlock krna paray ga* :/
its ok brother anytime
now go ahead and njoy CyanogenMod the best of all

Lost my phone. Any ideal way to track it?

Hi,
I accidently lost my phone yesterday, and I'm wondering if there is any way to track the phone? Is there any like main security function installed chip or something which is always enabled and a way to track it?
I didn't even bother install any application incased I lost my phone before, but it's to late to regret that now.
Hope someone could please help me out!
Thanks!
Only if you'd first set up built in tracking security in settings and checked box to turn on. Otherwise someone has just scored a nice phone sorry

IF nobody found your phone YET, and your gps in on and IF you have a friend in latitude, and you gave him permisions to see your location, then you could use his phone to track yours.
But those are ALOT of IFs
Ah ****... I never turn on the GPS, because it does use data traffic, and used to ruin my battery life on the phone. So in this case, the guy who found my phone got a scored, huh?
****....

I think that u need to call Ur network, & report it to them. basically they can track ur imei via towers, so lets hope that the adviser would be a helpful person. All the best

How am I supposed to give them the IMEI number? If I remember correctly, the IMEI number are actually located on the phone itself.

If you have access to your phone via market.android.com you could install to your phone an app which recieves silently sms-es and sends you needed data in return. Assuming of course that the sim is not changed. Can't remember the name of the app though :/
Trying to googling for the app now. This sounds very good stuff. Hopefully the guy didn't take of my sim card.
If there is any other solutions. I'm more happy to and willing to hear your help!
IMEI number is on the box if you still have it...
Never tried this but maybe it will work for you:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb&feature=search_result
Tried to using the Plan B, but I haven't recieved any mails regarding where my phone is lost.
I still got my Phone box! I will check it out later!

Cool concept.... I just tried it out for the hell of it... and it didn't work for me either....Even after sending a text message 'locate' it didn't work.
the IMEI number is always written in the contract papers from your provider.
With this number the provider will be able to find the phone. the IMEI will be marked as stolen and if the "finder" tries to sell it or whatsoever, the phone will be returned. i hope you have an insurance buddy!
Might come in a bit late but might help others:
- learn from this and install something to track before you lose it. If you want something more thief-proof I recommend Theft Aware. They even have a 70% off promo currently running.
If it's just about tracking, any app should be okay (but personally I prefer one I can control by SMS).
- as far as I can tell and have read, GPS does not consume any bandwidth/data/energy if you simply turn on the option alone. I always have my GPS turned on but it's not used until I start some app that makes use of GPS. It doesn't seem to drain any additional energy if idle.

My Note just got stolen, help login out of everything.

I just got my Note stolen a few hours ago, I am so pissed right now, but hey what can I do... I live in Nicaragua, so no warranty and no police claim will get it back for me...
Tomorrow I will call my carrier and see if I can block my phone through IMEI number so the son of a **** that stole it cannot use it...
I never kept my gps enabled unless I was using it so no tracking software will be able to track my phone, I already blocked my number with my carrier so I guess there is not much I can do to track it, but I would like to sign out of everything on my phone, and I was just wondering if I changed passwords on every service installed on my phone would the theif still be able to login if I had checked the "remember me" or "stayed logged in" options?
Thanks,

Try to install plan b from the market. You can install it remotely from Google play using a web browser and should be able to get the GPS coordinates of your phone providing the thief has not removed your Google account. Do it asap to increase your chances.
+1 Good idea, However The phone will need to have internet access to receive the remote download.
Dont suppose you had Lookout installed ?? On my device it is un-installable, and i can remotely turn GPS on / off, Track the phone, Wipe everything, Lock the device, and even make the phone scream !! (useful for when you are tracking and a close enough to hear it)
I hope you get it back !!
Changing the password won't let the thief use any of the services you have logged into. The app should request him for the new password. Do it ASAP!
I feel for you man! Had my iPod touch, Optimus 2X and Galaxy SII stolen!

first of all sorry you, that's one of the worst things that can happen to a phone.
if you think the theft is using your phone only with a different simcard you have the following options:
- try planb (as already mentioned above) to locate your phone.
- if you have a google account on the phone, try android lost that will gain you the full control over the phone including locating it, taking photos of the cameras and wiping the complete data of the device out. its a really great tool .
- if you have a Samsung account on your phone, try the samsung dive website with this you can also do things like locating or wiping data view call logs and so on.
if all the above fail you should change the passwords of all your accounts used on the phone, especially the email accounts. also try to contact your provider, really few of them provide a location service based on the imei number of the device. and also some of them offer the service to put the device's imei number to a ban list so the phone is useless at all because it cant login in to the gsm network.
*EDIT*: go to the police and let them give you a document that the phone is stolen, and the imei and serial numbers. give this document to samsung and they will put the device to a blacklist, so the device wont get service/support/repair anymore.
i hope some of this become useful to you
Best thing would be to:
1- Track it (with the app said above) or with Samsung Dive!
2- Find the perp
3- Beat him with a cow bone
4- Retrieve the phone
5- Send it to me for inspection
Hi guys, thanks for your help, I installed Plan B a few hours after the OP, but still no email...I would gladly beat the crap out of the theif, but I fear I won't see my note again, I have already ordered another one, this time I will install every tracking anti theft app available...
Anyhow, after this, I installed Lookout on my Girlfriends Note, and tried out the tracking, the tracking is not that accurate, it positions the phone within a 2 Km radius...any other app that would be more accurate?
Thanks,
Im using avast and i have to say its working well, it has a ton of features, you can make mobile data persistent with a single text making tracking that bit more accurate
combine it with the screaming feature of lookout and you should be able to hear it if you are close enough.
Try samsung dive
http://www.samsungdive.com
Lol samsung dive will dissapear when factory reset

Little late for the original poster but Cerberus is a nice app too. I got in on a free promotion. I have it activated and don't even think about till I get an email saying that I changed my sim. You can remotely hide the app, wipe phone/sdcard have a login screen pop up appear, record video and or audio and map in real time.
Even though I think tracking your kids is creepy, I can see how some parents would love to install it on their kid's phone.
Thanks again for all the info, I will try all these once my new phone gets here.
I have a question though, all of these tracking apps need data connection on the cel phone's side...correct? What if the theif turns off data connection? Is there one that works with only GPS?
Well in avast, you can remotely activate data network even if the thief switches it off, It also has stealth mode where it hides all traces of being installed.
If you are rooted it can even withstand a factory reset.

I've used GPS trakcing with data off before ...it will track you even if the map does not render...afterwards when you get connectivity the map will be displayed along with your tracking info.
GPS don't requires data connection thogh, tracking won't work without data connection.
GPS fix the position without data connection, but for tracking you need to pass that information to server, which needs data connection.

does not matter, it will install as long as you had google account sync on it, and it will auto ON GPS by itself , and cannot be shut off, as no settings menu in it., read instructions, as you can send locate sms to give you repeated details of location

Efs is encoded and encrypted as such only samsung will be able to guide you on this. Normally professional thieves would not be stealing it to use but to sell to a middleman who would ensure its shipped and sold in another state after altering its ROM etc. Hence they might not even switch it ON to avoid being detected, So lets hope that whosoever stole yours is an amateur and hopes to use or play with it
The only thing certain in life is death, everything else is hope, so even if you had the IMEI, the networks will only block the connection and Police, will not be doing anything ( unless they are getting something ). I have relations living in India, so I know and its the same here in the Philippines and many parts of this world.
Just hope Plan B works as Plan A, is never lose sight of your phone.
I feel, even an amateur will do Factory-Reset before using it.
So, I lost all hopes now..!!

[Q] [DESPERATE HELP NEEDED] Lost my Xperia Z

Hi guys,
two days ago a thief stole my Xperia Z. I think it is the worst thing that can happen to me. I dont even have any insurance. I didnt have any anti-theft software installed at that time. I only had it register with 'myXperia' service from SONY.
Ok coming to my question, we all know that myXperia = your google account + IMEI number which is cool coz most of the apps out there are useless once the thief wipes everything. I tried out myXperia and it worked awesome as long as i have mobile data and GPS turned on, it worked flawlessly. But I have one serious doubt which may danger the chance of finding my Xperia Z again What if the thief just does a clean format by connecting it to his system and changes the SIM card and register the phone with his google account??
My question is simple, Will MYXPERIA work when I try to track MY PHONE with THIEFS ACCOUNT in it?? plz help me....i'm facing sleepless nights becoz of this. The police in India, country where i stay are corrupt and useless and I have absolutely no faith in them. All I can trust is the myXperia service. Please tell me whether will it work even if the thief reformats my phone and signs in with his account :'(
Anyone trying new ROMS plz test it but NOT using your account and try tracking it. plz post the results I will be forever indebted to you guys....
Well your imei number is surely unique to your phone. So even if the thief wipes your data and changes your Google account your imei number will remain the same.
Sent from my Xperia Zed
first of all, thanks for the reply IMEI is unique but he can still wipe off everything and install a new ROM or something right?? Then 'myXperia' service will popup again and if he clicks accept, will the device be registered to his google account or still remain in my account?? I feel awful..i couldn't do anything...its like someone stole both my kidneys from me....i was just so in love with my black Z someone trying new ROMS, plz try this once if you guys can..plz...
anyone??? help me plz....

How?? If all you've got to go on is the MyXperia service then use it.
the thing is i tried the service and it worked fine before i lost my phone. now i guess the thief didnt turn my phone on..i'm just waiting for him to do that and once he does it, i want to be sure whether myXperia works or not just incase he formats/factory resets my phone and adds his google account...so all i'm asking you guys to do is give myXperia service a shot by installing some new ROM and while adding a google account, dont use the one you've used before formatting...try using some other account and try locating your phone using your account on myXperia website....

I'm afraid your myxperia settings are lost with a factory reset. The only way to recover is via police through IMEI tracking.
That's another sad news for me. In my country the cops are very corrupt and lazy. I've personally seen 1000s of pages of missing mobile devices list. Most of them are unsolved. Now I lost the only hope of finding my Xperia Z :'( God help me...
just tried myXperia service using another Xperia Z...didn't work Devices are mapped to google accounts instead of IMEI numbers. how can this work? The first thing a thief does is factory reset the phone. All these software are useless in such a situation. Why don't programmers do intelligent programming? myXperia will be more powerful once it takes IMEI numbers instead of google accounts as search parameter. I'm planning to code one app that does just that....wish me luck guys...
India?.hahaha..I'm from india. U gotta contact a police whom u know b4..either you're friends dad or somethin who s a police inspector. Then you move on with imei tracking. You ll surely get it.. dont worry. Hope the theif is not in xda, searchin for custom roms
Sent from my C6602 using Tapatalk 4
but even imei can be re-assigned.
If we can, then why isnt that there in xda.
Sent from my C6602 using Tapatalk 4
re-assigned? what do you mean by re-assigned? I dont think IMEIs for such high-end phones be changed...for mid-range phones we can use repair IMEI tool to do that...but for high-end phones like Xperia Z, we cannot simply re-program IMEI...but we can clone IMEIs so that it will become impossible to track....
IMEI is just like us: Unique, Distinct. Not Even Twins can be as 100% totally the same. Also represents phone IC itself. It'll be rarest to find Phones with totally identical IMEI number. Good luck tracking ur phone too, @OP
Whitefang
Man..robbers dont have that great knowledge I hope..
Sent from my C6602 using Tapatalk 4
lets hope they are not that intelligent...but i've heard that these phones are being smuggled to countries like pakistan, bangladesh and are sold dead cheap...we cant probably track the phone if it crosses the border right...anyways now I am left with only one option..the cops...i'll try to bribe them and get the job done...
If the cops won't help ya, get some friends together and do an old fashion beatdown.
Aslong as you can still track it through myxperia.
Which you should be able to unless the internet is off, but who doesn't turn on the internet on a high-end phone lol.
