Developer community, hi, I had the S1 for about 2 years and still do, its very good phone yo know , however, what ever I do its too slow! I'm running Android 4.2.2 with over clocked CPU and 400+ of RAM, and sometimes when I leave a small app to main, it take sometime to load the launcher,so what's wrong? Was Google right when it stopped the Nexus S updates at 4.1.2 because it can take any farther? Does project better even exist? The fastest ROM I had ever install was ICS RC2 which worked perfectly (I could run MC3 at background then leave and do some thing else, then want back and its where I have lift it) but I had datadata problem and I had to try something els. Know a days ,some new flagships had less specification than S1 and work smother!, in short words: can I make my phone faster ?
All thanks and appreciates to whom worked to develop this great phone.

Yup, Some LG and Sami phones came with the same or less specifications

Well, the more recent phones that come out right now for the low-end market are running alot newer chips than the S1 has. In my opinion, you shouldn't go to far with flashing newer versions of Android. But on the other hand, everyone wants to be on the most recent version of Android. Google had a reason for not pushing 4.2 to the Nexus S. Other manufacturers don't bring out updates for newer phones (for no reason), but Google had a good reason, because the Nexus S' hardware is outdated.
Unfortunately i doubt you can get your smoothest experience in 4.2.2.
If you want pure smoothness you should try a custom 2.3.7 as that would be ideal although i reckon 4.0.4(cm9 base) would do quite a decent job as well.
You have to try out different ROMs and see what best fits your needs.
Is a way that i use it and is good and smooth
But if expect like sg3 no it's not exactly like that but it's close. And don't disturb u
Cause our hardware's are a part of history
I installed 1.2gb apk and work smooth mostly software not game
First;
Buy a sd card high class 10
Format internal storage
Install cm latest version 4.2.2 with Odin
Install kernel like fishear
And set it up
Install cyanDelta
Install auto memory killer and set in optimum value
Install Roehsoft apk and make virtual memory on your external SD
Also never install any luncher cause it's own luncher is very light
and enjoy it
is good for daily works And smooth

Of course 4.2.2 isn't going to be perfect. Pushing Project Butter onto our phone was a feat in itself. The smoothest 4.2.2 I've tried is Slim Bean, which really is pretty amazing. But don't be surprised about the fact that the phone can't handle Jelly Bean as well as it should. Its 3rd year anniversary is approaching fast.
Its still a wonder our single-core can handle it fine.

Hei man I dont know what roms are you using but try thinkingridge stable by aways and the c-rom mix 18...everything is stable at 55 frames per second in the ui...and ofcourse your phone will slowdown if you put a lot of stuff in it...its normal...you cannot pretend that is going to be fast as when you fresh install the rom..my girlfriend's iphone 4 is stock,no mods but still it lags a lot more than my VERY OLD I9000 ...
By the way anyone can give me some advices on a gingerbread rom?a kickass one? I saw a couple of releases in this days...they should be good considering that the developers had plenty of time to improve stability and performances...
Thanks
Speed depends on the kernel/rom your using and the way your using it. My suggestion is GamerzRom and use the greenify app. Try it and you ll see. Ive never had a faster rom!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
whatever you decide to do dont use task managers...they just mess with the android sistem and android knows better than you when and how to kill a process...
True i found out that task managers dont really work well
Greenify works the best and alot of people use it

Hey there,
I HAD the same problem. The 2/3 changes I made was
1.UNDERClock to 800mhz (less stress on phone and less lag
2. Use Nova launcher as default
3. I am running slim bean latest and its fantasiltic
My phone has never run better
Stay away from themes though.
FYI I am a massive app hoarder so you may have a hundred apps on your phone and blame it on that but probability 9/10 isn't.
Hope I helped

Let's say experianced noob ^^ well for a basic user, you can in fact use both... more battery, stock stability and compatibility are on zeus side. About more features and feeling cool and wanting the latest, take CM10 But you really should at least try both or even more. It took me really long to decide and in fact i am still changing quite often, to check out new features and development. Just install one, set it up to your needs, try/test it, back it up, flash another one, try it and decide whats best for you. You should also try ICS repack. If sms works fine for you, it should be one of the best daily drivers available till now (at least I liked pretty much, but sms doesnt work for me...) so have fun

I used zeus for performance and stability.. now im using cm10 for the looks and new feeling
I've already tried both and I can honestly said that Zeus is my fav. CM10 is still very buggy...
I used Zeus untill Aokp ics was released and now i'm on Aokp jb and i have tried cm10 to.
If you want stability use Zeus.
If you want to be up to date use cm10
well said by nooby and romwiz
zeus is more stable and cm10 is still a little buggy
i personally stopped using zeus since a week and am pretty happy with miui and cm10
if you don't game much, go cm10
if you game, go zeus and it has the same looks
I have tried both of them.
personally, i think Zeus is more suitable for me. It has a better performance and stability.
However, if u want to try the new functions, just go for cm10...
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk 2
I think ZEUS is for daily use (6.4 or 7.03) and all ICS, CM10 or whatever, you'll have to make some compromise in using your phone (no gps or no video, not being able to install the apps you want...).
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to change the notification bar's function shortcuts in zeus, like in cm??

My girlfriend currently has this phone and she is complaining about how laggy it is, glitching and the battery life is horrible.. Otherwise she loves the phone. I was wondering what I could do to fix that. I was thinking about rooting it and deleting some of the bulkware that's on it and hoping that should fix it. I ran a app cache cleaner on it the other day and some of the apps had several hundred MBs of useless cache on it.
What would be the best way to spring this phone back to life? Root and clean up the stock ROM, or Root and install a custom ROM?... If so, what's the best ROM?
I use my note as my daily driver but still use the cappy as a back up and as dedicated podcast mp3 player. Best thing I've ever done is put slim bean on it. It's in the dev section.

After being on a gb rom for a long time, I made the jump to a jb rom and it has breathed new life to this phone. It's amazingly fast and smooth. I'm running the 4.1.2 slim bean rom and it's excellent. It's practically feels like a new phone.
I think installing any of the jb roms will make this device amazing.

I've heard Good things about slimbean, but have not tested it. Hellybean 4.2.1 right is working wonders for me! Also get a extended battery or spare. I got the gold batter which is really only like 1800mah in reality but $9 and fast shipping and gives a boost

Figured I've give my $0.02 as well
Ran Slim Bean for a couple weeks and then went on to try Captivating just to try it. Gave it a day, but didn't like it much. Went to CM 10.1 and have been on it ever since. Slim Bean might be as good or better than 10.1 to me, but I get better performance and stability from 10.1. Slim Bean will definitely make it feel like a brand new phone with the dpi change and all.
I think everybody here would recommend changing to a custom ROM (hey, that's what we're here for, right?). Which one is best is very personal to the user, so try some of them and see which one you like best, <strikethrough>most</strikethrough> all of the available ROMs are awesome compared to stock. The most important thing is to read carefully how to successfully flash your phone before you go at it.
I am looking for a fast, simple, battery saving rom for a novice user.
Please help
Since no one wants to help ya I say the oxygen1mod Tom is a good fast smooth and good battery rom

I'm on cm7 with a Holo launcher and m2sd and it's pretty good. I was on evervolv 4.1 for a couple months and it was pretty stable, the biggest issue I had was call answer delay of several seconds. Now that I'm using the phone part of my n1 a lot more I thought I should go back to gb not to mention my girlfriend has an iPhone 4s and thinks iPhones are the best thing ever, and since she doesn't understand custom roms and stuff I don't want her to experience any kind of glitch or freeze when she picks up my phone.
I used a port of oxygen on an old LG optimus one I had and sold and it made that phone seem way quicker than it was.

I am using AllianceROM from my signature. It is very smooth and snappy. It's TW based JB and it's nicely themed with OTAs and a lots of customizations. You can install with or without Samsung and Google apps. Just follow instructions.
I'm using Super Nexus 2.0
Pros:
Smooth and fast
No Bloatware
Great battery life
Cons:
None really. (some may say it is to much of a minimal ROM) but I actually like that
My favs
It's been about 15 months since i'm having my beloved Note, and i guess i flashed like 30 different ROM's on it, from GB's to JB's, CM, MIUI, literally everything. Let me mention my 2 favourites, The first one was this: [ROM][4.1.2][10/14] Cookies & Cream 1.3.0. Very highly customizable, smooth, and amazing battery life. The reason i stopped using it, cuz it has some flaws, i cannot save my contacts to the SIM card, or anywhere else, just to my Google, which i don't want. The other one problem was, there's no option to store the photos on your external SD card, only to the internal. Apart from this, a very good ROM. The next i'd like 2 mention is, my all-time fav, Chrack' s XXLRQ v16 Final. I'm using it for a while now, this is the most perfect ROM i ever used on my Note. Everything works perfectly, no FC's, lagging, smooth as melted butter, and it has probably the best battery life i ever experienced. Simply perfect ROM. I cannot recommend anything else more than this.
CM 10.1. Pure; like it should be.

CM 10.1 is the fastest but also the softest
Paranoid Android is the coolest but buggy
All the TW ROMS including stock are dealable and for a major manufacturer to make a ROM that u can actually use WO having to be an I-Drone then i think every veteran would say that's impressive!
but also that, basic functionality doesn't mean that a C student getting a C+ is someone i want to hire or give a medal...u don't get praise for making something that works, after a million failed attempts, especially when u are a zillion dollar company
All the TW ROMs are pedestrian and I never understood why people can't live wo S-Planner? You use a TW ROM BC u have a separate tablet, and u cant live wo SPen...omg are u kidding? hahahahaha
Start flashing virgins, there's no reason we cant direct mobile computing....u can lay down and accept whats given, which is for them, or u can demand the best and push the envelope
Really we just want the hardware...
Thanks Samsung for making a device that I-Drones might look at BC its big but no thanks on trying to make more Samsung drones.... Its not good for humanity, technological advancement or me personally
BTW i use Paranoid Android (Jelly Beer)

I have a question. I have been reading about kitkat apps. It seems that particularly the web browser is pretty crap. Can anyone verify these comments? I don't know that it will be an issue, but I was curious if anyone here has any personal experience. If it's bad, I'll stay with 4.2.2 . Thanks.

The launcher is just OK, it's really Google Now's version of a launcher with it built in. I found it be a little slow and very little customization. Fine for the masses who don't know any different (which are the majority of users, sadly). Nova destroys it all day long.
Far as KitKat goes, it all depends on the ROM and the device. Some ROMs are way behind and some are way ahead. I hate to say it but if CM11and SlimKat were all I had to choose from, I'd probably go back to 4.2. Yes CM is the foundation of all ROMs so I'm grateful it's around, but for KitKat they still have a long way to go, at least for S2. Same for SlimKat. Just too many issues. The unofficial ROMs are kicking major butt though. For the Exhibit, I'd stick with 4.2 for now although to be fair I haven't tried the newest KitKat ROMs available here lately. @jfbs is working hard to get you guys a stable 4.4 though!

I can easily install Nova again. It's the launcher I use now and I love it. Thanks for the advice. I am looking forward to @jfbs' rom. I was just eager to try kitkat because it was supposedly designed to work on phones like ours, where ram is at a premium. Initial reviews did say it ran much lighter, but I am not sure if it really makes a difference.

Ultimately there is one truism I have found, functionality and speed are mainly hardware dependent. You can have the best ROM ever made in history but if the device doesn't have the hardware to back it up, it's useless. I booted the Exhibit for the first time in almost two weeks the other day and it was so much painfully slower than what I have now it isn't even funny. It reminded me how thankful I need to be that I have something else to be honest. A good KitKat ROM may help this device, IDK.
Yeah, the browser on Slimkat is all slow and FC's, even when you try to use a different browser than stock. With the other 4.4 ROMs we have I think you can just use a different browser if the stock has FC issues.
I stay using 4.2, since I can OC higher than 1012MHz and can swap the sd's.
FC stands for force close? Thanks for the advice. I will stay with 4.2 for now. I will see what @jfbs comes up with.
